Final lineup & preview for WCW/nWo Souled Out '98
Live on January 25, 1998 only on PPV!
THE HART FOUNDATION vs VICIOUS & DELICIOUS
Davey Boy Smith and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart came to WCW from WWF along with Bret Hart. They have stood with him against the nWo and that has lead to this match, pitting them against Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton. None of these wrestlers are known for their technical skill; this is going to be a pure powerhouse brawl.
HARLEM HEAT vs VANDENBERG'S ARMY
A month ago, Mortis and Wrath attacked Harlem Heat after a match, putting Stevie Ray out of action for several weeks. When Mortis and Wrath attacked Ernest Miller, Booker T came to Miller's aid only to be attacked by Glacier. It was revealed Glacier had become another of James Vandenberg's minions, despite his past conflicts with them. The fued between Glacier and Ernest Miller remains unsettled, but Harlem Heat seeking revenge on Vandenberg's Army will happen. As an added incentive to both teams, JJ Dillon has announced the winner of this match will earn a shot at the WCW Tag Team Titles!
WCW CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: EDDIE GUERRERO (c) vs JUVENTUD GUERRERA
Juvi beat Rey Mysterio Jr to earn a shot at Guerrero's title. He's gotten support from Mysterio, but had to deal with Guerrero's recent unspoken alliance with Chris Jericho, who has taught the ways of the Cheat To Win philosophy.
RAVEN'S RULES TRIPLE THREAT MATCH FOR THE WCW TV TITLE MATCH
"THE CRIPPLER" CHRIS BENOIT (c) vs RAVEN vs ALEX WRIGHT
Benoit has been fighting his way through The Flock, including beating Saturn (who subsequently left WCW) for the TV Title at Starrcade. But he has been unable to get a match with Raven himself, who has talked alot of talk but always sent The Flock to fight his battles. Benoit finally found a way to get Raven to face him, diving into The Flock in their ringside seats and putting his fists to Raven. Benoit has found an unexpected ally in "The Iceman" Dean Malenko. Meanwhile, Alex Wright's recent success got him a title shot against Benoit. The Benoit-Wright matches failed to end cleanly thanks to interference by Raven and The Flock, but Wright has refused to keep out of this. Expect chaos.
WCW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES MATCH: THE STEINER BROTHERS (c) vs THE FACES OF FEAR
Scott's ego and biceps continue to grow and he fired manager Ted Dibiase, declaring him unneeded. That decision didn't sit well with his brother Rick, who seems to still be the same Dogfaced Gremlin he's always been. Despite this internal strife, the team has held together and fought off all challengers. Their next challenge is Meng and The Barbarian. Jimmy Hart hasn't been shy about using numbers against The Steiners: he can call on the rest of The First Family but the Steiners seem to be out of friends thanks to Scott's bridge burning.
WCW UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE (c) vs MASAHIRO CHONO
DDP won a hard fought match against Curt Hennig at Starrcade to gain the US Title. He has fought long and hard against the nWo. With their numbers depleted by injury, the nWo called in reenforcements from nWo Japan in the form of Masahiro Chono. Chono forcefully dispatched veteran wrestler Jim Duggan to earn the ire of the fans.
THE GIANT vs "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE
The week before Starrcade, Savage interfered in a match and took out The Giant with a chair to the knee. While he succeeded in taking The Giant out of action for Starrcade and beating Lex Luger - who wanted to avenge his friend - Savage may have doomed himself in the long run. It's not a wise idea to make The Giant angry...
"THE NATURE BOY" RIC FLAIR Vs CURT HENNING
The bad blood runs deep in this one. Hennig betrayed The Horsemen to the nWo at Fall Brawl '97 and savaged assaulted Flair afterwards, putting him out of action for three months. Hennig has a great deal of contempt for Flair and would love to put Flair permanently out of action. As if the hate between the two men in the ring wasn't enough, their respective managers have come to blows numerous times. Arn Anderson and Rick Rude are both retired due to neck injuries, but that doesn't mean they can't still get physically involved.
WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: STING (c) vs KEVIN NASH
At Starrcade, Sting finally got his shot at Hogan and took the WCW World Championship back from the nWo. But that match didn't end the war with the nWo. Sting has spent plenty of time in the ring in the last month after a long absence in the rafters but he's still done things in his own way, lingering in the shadows and not saying a word. This match was going to feature Scott Hall using the title shot he earned by winning World War III back in November, but the same night Hall's challenge was declared he was sidelined for months with a neck injury that came in a match involving Sting. Nash has stepped in for his running buddy and gotten help from Syxx, even pinning Sting in a tag match. Syxx's inability to wrestle due to his own neck injury hasn't stopped him from being a nuisance, but his attacks in support of Nash finally earned him a beating by Sting's black bat that has put him out of action as well. Nash is now the last member of the Wolfpac left standing. Can he take the title back to the nWo on his own?
BRET "THE HITMAN" HART vs HOLLYWOOD HOGAN
The nWo wined and dined Bret Hart, laying out a red carpet for him and giving him every encouragement to join them like every other WWF defector has. But Hogan was overconfident and Bret never actually agreed to join the nWo. In ringside seats at Starrcade (compliments of the nWo), Bret was called by Hogan to dispose of Sting. Instead, Bret took the high road and helped keep the rest of the nWo at bay so Sting could pin Hogan. The war the nWo was winning handily has been turning against them as part of WCW has rallied around Sting and Bret. Hogan wants revenge badly and he's brought in backup in the form of a man he calls The Disciple and laid out Bret Hart on Nitro. He may also need to beat Bret to sure up his leadership of the nWo which has been challenged by Hall and Nash.
