WCW Starrcade '97
Available live on PPV Sunday December 28th!
Goldberg vs Steve McMichael
Goldberg's undefeated streak has been the talk of WCW but he hasn't faced any competition as tough as McMichael. Mongo has bounced back since the breakup of the Horsemen and losing the US Title to Curt Hennig back in September.
Ernest Miller vs Glacier
Miller came to WCW to help out Glacier in his fued with Mortis and Wrath. But a little over a month ago things got rocky in this team and tensions ran high until the team broke up. Now we see who the weak link is.
Lex Luger vs Randy Savage
A late addition to the Starrcade lineup after the events of Nitro when Savage took out The Giant's knee with a vicious chair shot. Besides being another battle in the ongoing WCW-nWo war, Luger wants to avenge the injury done to his friend and tag partner.
Renegade vs Meng
Renegade enjoyed some success in his early days with WCW years but lately his wins were few and far between. That was until Meng choked him unconscious a month ago on WCW Saturday Night. The blackout left Renegade a strangely revitalized wrestler, if a crazier one. Since then, he's plowed through Jimmy Hart's First Family to get revenge on Meng, all the while channeling his inner Warrior by shaking the ropes alot and speaking metaphysical nonsense. Can Renegade get his revenge or will the Tongan monster end his resurgence?
Cruiserweight Title: Eddie Guerrero (c) vs Dean Malenko
Malenko remains a man of few works but great intensity. He won a #1 contender's match to get a shot at Guerrero who holds onto his title thanks to his cheating ways.
Piper & Flair w/ Arn Anderson vs The Outsiders w/ Syxx
After Scott Hall declined to use the title shot against Hogan he won at World War III last month, Rowdy Roddy Piper returned and called Hall a coward. Hall and Nash gave him a beating for his troubles but it hasn't dissuaded him from continuing to fight the nWo. Meanwhile, Ric Flair has made his return from the brutal injuries received at Fall Brawl in September. Rather than undercut DDP's title shot at Hennig he has allied himself with Piper who needed a partner to meet a challenge from the Outsiders.
Cage Match for the TV Title: Saturn (c) vs Chris Benoit
Benoit has fought through Raven's Flock for the last month. Raven has harassed him the entire time but refused to meet him in the ring. Benoit will settle for the next best thing: the Flock's Enforcer, Saturn who holds the TV Title. JJ Dillon has ordered the match to take place in a cage to keep Raven and the Flock out.
Tag Team Titles: Steiner Brothers (c) vs Vicious & Delicous
The Steiner Brothers have gotten the Tag Titles off The Outsiders for real, but have fallen into a fued with Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton. The Steiners seem red hot, although the increased size of Scott Steiner's ego and biceps are both cause for concern. The Steiners may have to fend off interference from the nWo who will likely do whatever it takes to get the titles back in their hands, but the Steiners have Ted Dibiase and Ray Traylor to watch their back
US Title: Curt Hennig (c) vs Diamond Dallas Page
Hennig came to WCW and received a spot in the Horsemen, only to turn on them at Fall Brawl and brutally assault Ric Flair in the process. Then he took the US Title from Steve McMichael to complete his destruction of the Horsemen. DDP has fought a long hard and often solo fight against the nWo. He's deserves his shot as much as anyone and surely has a chance to take Hennig in a fair fight. But with Rick Rude in Hennig's corner and the rest of the nWo surely not lurking far away, will DDP get a fair fight?
World Heavyweight Title: Hollywood Hogan (c) vs Sting
A match that's been over a year in the making. Hogan has used every trick in the book to maintain a near strangehold on the WCW Title, which bears a spraypainted nWo logo. Hogan and the nWo have mocked Sting verbally, mocked him with imitators, dressed up like him to fool WCW wrestlers, and beaten up mannequins in his image. Sting has lurked in the rafters, descending frequently to attack the nWo and play mindgames with Hogan. He's left Sting masks laying around, stormed the ring with legions of dopplegangers, mailed Hogan a severed mannequin head (at least we assume that was Sting's doing), and laid out every member of the nWo at some point including Eric Bischoff. While he hasn't spoken a word, his intentions are clear: end Hogan's reign.
Plus Bret Hart will be at Starrcade, but in what capacity?
