Special Report: WCWF in Trouble
Sunday, the promoter of the WCWF was on the phone, searching for a new talent pool to draw from. All of the plans for the month lay in ruin as he made phone call after phone call. And just last night, the greatest card was run for the fans. New tag team champions were crowned after a one night tournament of the greatest tag teams ever assembled in one arena.
Looking out from behind the curtain during the final match, J.R. couldn't help but beam. "This is what I have worked for!", said J.R. "This is the greatest event in history!". After the match, in which The Road Warriors won the WCWF Tag Team championship, the entire roster threw a party at the Holiday Inn in Atlanta, not only for the new champions, but also for J.R. as well.
Then, the unthinkable happened. A gentleman came into the party hall and pulled on J.R.'s sleeve. He was from the I.R.S., and he bore bad news. He informed J.R. that a partner of his had stolen all of the profits from the WCWF and lost the money in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Not believing what was said, he called the boys around him and made the announcment. "Look guys, I was told that the WCWF is broke!", announced J.R.. "I do not know the details, but I will find out!". He further added, "I cannot pay you guys tonight, but I will make up for it!".
Animal and Hawk couldn't believe what they had heard. They steped up to J.R. and threw the belts down that they had won that night and left the party, as did a number of others. Some decided to stay, because while they had been ther before with other promoters, then sensed something honest about J.R.
The house show will go on in Birmingham, Alabama Monday night, but with a reduced roster. As the card goes on, he will still make phone calls to re-fill the talent pool.
