Actually had this idea with WrestleMania 25 and posted it to this board about 6 years ago but that was several computers and seemingly a lifetime ago.
I just ran WrestleMania X8 unbooked in TNM and will take what the program gave me and go from there. I have a few big ideas as to where I want to be for WrestleMania XIX but we will see if I get there!
I was a sophomore in high school when this event actually happened and my fandom around this time was lapsing. I think it'll be a fun, dumb little experiment for me that I'll update casually.
Enjoy!

WrestleMania X8 - March 17, 2002
[Sunday Night Heat Exclusive] Match with Special Referee Jacqueline: Lance Storm, Mr. Perfect and Test defeated Albert, Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty when Test pinned Albert after a pumphandle powerslam in 0:16:56. Rating: * 3/4
Rob Van Dam pinned William Regal with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:02:10. Rating: ** 3/4 (Rob Van Dam won the WWF Intercontinental Championship.)
Christian pinned Diamond Dallas Page with the Unprettier in 0:11:01. Rating: ** (Christian won the WWF European Championship.)
No-Countout-No-DQ-Triangle Falls-Count-Anywhere Match: Goldust defeated Maven and Spike Dudley when Goldust pinned Spike with the Curtain Call in 0:12:41. Rating: *** 1/2 (Goldust won the WWF Hardcore Championship.)
Kane pinned Kurt Angle with the Choke Slam in 0:09:32. Rating: ** 1/2
No-Countout-No-DQ-Match: The Undertaker pinned Ric Flair with the Last Ride in 0:11:50. Rating: **
Edge pinned Booker T with the Edgecution in 0:11:59. Rating: *** 3/4
Steve Austin defeated Scott Hall by disqualification in 0:02:07. Rating: -1/2* [Kevin Nash interfered against Steve Austin.]
Four Corners Match: The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated Billy And Chuck (Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo), The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) and The APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq): x D-Von beat Faarooq via a flying legdrop in 0:02:57 x J. Hardy beat Chuck after the Swanton Bomb in 0:20:12 x D-Von beat J. Hardy via the Inverted Brain Buster in 0:24:28 Rating: ** (The Dudley Boys won the WWF Tag Team Championships.) [Rico interfered against Jeff Hardy.] [Stacy Keibler and Rico interfered against Matt Hardy.]
Hollywood Hulk Hogan pinned The Rock with the Big Leg Drop in 0:14:05. Rating: ** 1/2
Triangle Match: Jazz defeated Lita and Trish Stratus when Jazz pinned Trish after a DDT in 0:04:50. Rating: * 1/2 (Jazz retained the WWF Women's Championship.)
Hunter Hearst Helmsley pinned Chris Jericho with the Pedigree in 0:19:56. Rating: ***** (Hunter Hearst Helmsley won the WWF Undisputed Championship.) [Stephanie McMahon interfered against Hunter Hearst Helmsley.]
Card overview: Despite Stephanie McMahon's best efforts, Hunter Hearst Helmsley is your new WWF Undisputed Champion. McMahon made her presence felt late in the match when she attempted to hit her estranged husband with a steel chair. The Game was able to get out of the way which led to Chris Jericho to getting walloped with the unforgiving steel and directly led to a Pedigree and the victory.
The nWo had a banner night as The Outsiders jumped Steve Austin at the outset of Scott Hall's "match" with the Texas Rattle Snake. The Outsiders beat on Austin mercilessly and sent him to a local medical facility. Hollywood Hulk Hogan, somewhat shockingly, defeated The Rock cleanly in the Battle of the Icons. Does The Immortal have one last run in him?
Besides Jazz successfully retaining her Women's Championship, every other title changed hands. Rob Van Dam channeled William Regal's power of the punch while referee Nick Patrick was distracted to set up the Five Star Frog Splash to win the Intercontinental Title. Christian and Diamond Dallas Page had a spirited back-and-forth matchup for the European Championship that saw the former tag team specialist win the belt with an Unprettier. New Hardcore Champion Goldust emerged victorious over Maven and Spike Dudley in a wild three-way brawl that went all around the SkyDome. The Dudley Boys captured tag team gold once again in an insane four corners elimination match although the majority of the match was fought between the aforementioned Dudleys, Billy and Chuck and The Hardyz after The APA were eliminated in short order. The Hardyz were missing Lita in their corner as she was backstage preparing for her Women's Championship match.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding tomorrow night's RAW. Ric Flair, who came out on the losing end of a bloody and violent brawl with The Undertaker tonight, is no longer involved in ownership of the company and Vince McMahon was conspicuous in his absence. It feels like change is in the air for the World Wrestling Federation.
Already Announced for RAW tomorrow night:
WWF Tag Team Championship Match: The Dudley Boys vs. The Hardy Boyz
WrestleMania Rematch: Booker T vs. Edge
MAIN EVENT: Chris Jericho and Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock and Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Plus more great action!

WWF Monday Night Raw - March 18, 2002
In-Ring Interview: Hollywood Hogan announces he's challenging HHH at Backlash.
Backstage Interview: Chris Jericho freaks out on Stephanie McMahon backstage.
The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Bubba pinned M. Hardy with the Bubba Bomb in 0:12:51. Rating: ** 1/2 (The Dudley Boys retained the WWF Tag Team Championship.)
Kurt Angle made Scotty 2 Hotty submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:04:33. Rating: ***
Backstage Interview: Paul Heyman appears with his new client: Brock Lesnar.
Edge pinned Booker T with the Edgecution in 0:11:43. Rating: ** 3/4
Lita and Trish Stratus defeated Jazz and Ivory when Lita pinned Jazz after flying headscissors in 0:07:13. Rating: **
Handicap-Match: Steve Austin and The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) battled to a double countout in 0:04:54. Rating: 1/2*
Post Match: Austin continues to brawl with The Outsiders post-match.
Chris Benoit made Al Snow submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:02:14. Rating: ** 3/4
Chris Jericho and Hollywood Hulk Hogan defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley and The Rock when Hogan pinned Triple H with the Big Leg Drop in 0:13:16. Rating: ** 3/4 [Kevin Nash interfered against The Rock.]
Post Match: The nWo beats down Y2J, The Rock and Triple H post-match.
Match observations: The World Wrestling Federation's next big Pay-Per-View event, Backlash, looks like it has its main event set in stone as Hollywood Hulk Hogan formally announced that he will be challenging Hunter Hearst Helmsley for his Undisputed Championship. Hogan spoke pretty definitively on the matter which caused Chris Jericho to go nuclear backstage on Stephanie McMahon. The former champ is due his rematch so how could Hogan have skipped to the front of the line? Jericho told McMahon to do something about it but she responded saying that no one has seen or heard from Vince McMahon in days now so she isn't sure where this decision could be coming from.
Steve Austin was incensed with what transpired last night concerning his "match" with Scott Hall. He challenged The Outsiders to a 2-on-1 handicap match but it was really just a ruse to brawl with Hall and Nash. The action spilled outside early in the "match" which led to a double count-out. Post match, Austin held his own against The Outsiders before succumbing the the numbers game. Once again Austin left the arena on a stretcher.
Paul Heyman resurfaced to present his newest "client", former two-time NCAA Division I All-American Brock Lesnar. Heyman said that WHEN Lesnar chooses to make his presence felt the WWF will never be the same again.
Team Xtreme went 1-for-2 tonight as Lita scored a pinfall victory over WWF Women's Champion Jazz but The Hardy Boyz lost a back-and-forth match with The Dudley Boys. Unlike last night, Stacy Keibler did not make her presence felt at ringside.
In tonight's main event, Hogan scored a tainted pinfall victory over Helmsley. The Outsiders made their presence felt late in the match as they jumped The Rock outside of the ring with distracted The Game and allowed Hogan to hit him in the back of the head with his weight belt before hitting him with the Big Leg Drop. Jericho and Hogan jawed post match before Y2J was attacked by The Outsiders. Hall and Nash took turns beating on Jericho and The Rock while Hogan viciously whipped the Undisputed Champion with his weight belt.
Announced for Smackdown:
WWF Cruiserweight Championship Match: Tajiri (c) w/Torrie Wilson vs. Billy Kidman
Gentleman's Rules Match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship: Rob Van Dam (c) vs. William Regal

Very interesting. So this was unbooked so all those title changes happened? Wow. You are going booked from then on? I think this is about the time I stopped watching WWE pretty much so I'm having a hard time remembering all the storylines and feuds. Still going to use Chris Benoit, that's gutsy. Are you a Lesnar fan and forsee a big push for him?

Yeah, everything that happened at WrestleMania was unbooked so all those title changes happened. Booking about 90 percent of everything else although I think the Cruiserweight division is going to be unbooked and all about fun matches, at least at the outset. I barely remember the storylines as well which is why I'll enjoy filling in the blanks, especially since the WWE version of the nWo was pretty terrible so I'm looking to change that.
Love Brock Lesnar. Thinking his early run in this universe is going to be presented a lot like his latest foray. Don't see him being an every show character.
Benoit is a weird one but I think there are some things that can be done with him. I don't think he'll ever be the veteran underdog babyface, though.

WWF Smackdown - March 21, 2002
No-Time-Limit-No-Countout-No-DQ-Falls-Count-Anywhere Match: The Sandman pinned Goldust with the White Russian Legsweep in 0:07:49. Rating: * 3/4 (The Sandman won the WWF Hardcore Championship.)
The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated The Holly's (Crash Holly and Hardcore Holly) when Nash pinned C. Holly with the Jackknife Power Bomb in 0:04:00. Rating: * 1/4
Post Match Interview: The Outsiders announce they're taking the tag team gold at Backlash.
Tajiri pinned Billy Kidman with the Kick To The Head in 0:09:10. Rating: *** (Tajiri retained the WWF Cruiserweight Championship.) [Torrie Wilson interfered against Billy Kidman.]
Billy And Chuck (Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo) defeated Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty when Chuck pinned Scotty with the Superkick in 0:06:19. Rating: ** 1/4
Interview: Stephanie McMahon tells Y2J that there will be a final decision about his Undisputed Title rematch on Monday.
[Gentleman's Rules Match]: Match where the title can change hands via DQ or contout: Rob Van Dam defeated William Regal via pinfall in 0:10:45. Rating: ** 1/2 (Rob Van Dam retained the WWF Intercontinental Championship.)
Booker T, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho defeated Edge, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Kane when C. Jericho made Edge submit to the Walls Of Jericho in 0:14:38. Rating: *** 1/4
Post Match: Y2J tells HHH he's taking back the Undisputed Title but then gets jumped by the nWo while The Game watches on.
Match Observations: Wall-to-wall action marked the first post-WrestleMania X8 episode of Smackdown as we saw a new champion crowned to open the show and a massive six-man tag to end it.
ECW legend The Sandman made his surprise debut tonight and made an instant impact by claiming the WWF Hardcore Championship in a brutal match with the recently crowned champion, Goldust. The Hardcore Championship has had many holders during its history but none have been as extreme as The Sandman so you'd have to think that he'll be wearing that belt for a while.
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, collectively known as The Outsiders, followed Hulk Hogan's lead from Monday night and announced that they will be challenging for the WWF World Tag Team Titles at Backlash after summarily dispatching The Holly's in an extremely one-sided affair. Once again, you have the wonder how The Outsiders were able to call their shot in terms of their next Pay-Per-View match. One thing is for certain, though: the New World Order has a chance to claim a lot of gold - and the perks that go along with being champions - in one month's time.
The two other championship matches on tonight's stacked show did not result in title changes as Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri retained over Billy Kidman thanks to Torrie Wilson's well-timed distraction and Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam relied on some unsportsmanlike conduct to defeat William Regal in a Gentleman's Rules Match. After referee Tim White was knocked down inadvertently by Regal, RVD was able to catch his challenger by surprise and hit him with a Van Daminator.
Two unlikely teams came together for the main event of the evening as Booker T, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho battled Edge, WWF Undisputed Champion Triple H and Kane in a spirited affair. Referee Earl Hebner lost control of the match after a few minutes as all six men began fighting around ring side. Eventually Jericho and Edge found themselves alone in the ring and had a back-and-forth encounter before the former Undisputed Champion was able to secure the victory for his team with a particularly nasty looking application of the Walls of Jericho.
Jericho grabbed a mic post-match and told Triple H that he didn't give a damn about what Hogan said and did on Monday night because he was going to take back what was rightfully his. Just then the nWo came through the crowd and mercilessly beat down Y2J in a 3-on-1 attack right in front of Triple H as the show went off the air.
Already announced for Monday Night Raw:
- A decision on who will be challenging WWF Undisputed Champion Triple H at Backlash
- Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley and Stacy Keibler vs. Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and Lita
- WWF European Championship Match: Christian (c) vs. D'Lo Brown
- Trish Stratus vs. Terri

WWF Monday Night Raw - March 25, 2002
Pre-taped Segment: The WWF Championship Committee has assumed control of all matchmaking duties. The anonymous group names Hollywood Hogan the number one contender but if Y2J can beat him tonight then the main event of Backlash will become a Triple Threat Match.
Tazz defeated Big Boss Man when Big Boss Man passed out in the Tazmission in 0:05:39. Rating: *** 1/2
The APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq) defeated Test and Lance Storm when Bradshaw pinned Test with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:06:32. Rating: ** 3/4
The Undertaker pinned Albert with the Last Ride in 0:03:19. Rating: * 3/4
Post Match Interview: The Undertaker puts the entire WWF on notice by saying he isn't about title belts, he's about kicking ass.
Terri pinned Trish Stratus with the DDT in 0:03:36. Rating: * 1/2 [Jazz interfered against Trish Stratus.]
The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) and Stacy Keibler and The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) and Lita battled to a no contest in 0:07:03. Rating: ** [Kevin Nash interfered against Stacy Keibler.] [Scott Hall interfered against D-Von Dudley.] [Kevin Nash interfered against Jeff Hardy.] [Kevin Nash interfered against Bubba Ray Dudley.]
Video Package: Paul Heyman talks about his client Brock Lesnar being a needle moving, prize fighting special attraction.
Backstage: The Outsiders celebrate destroying the Dudleys and Hardyz and tell Hollywood Hogan that they have his back tonight.
Christian pinned D'Lo Brown with the Unprettier in 0:06:48. Rating: ** (Christian retained the WWF European Championship.)
Kurt Angle and Booker T defeated Edge and Kane when K. Angle made Kane submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:07:13. Rating: ** 3/4
Hollywood Hulk Hogan defeated Chris Jericho by countout in 0:01:53. Rating: ** [Scott Hall and Kevin Nash interfered against Chris Jericho.]
Match Observations: Wow! The big news to come out of tonight's episode was that the WWF Championship Committee has assumed control of all matchmaking duties going forward. The Committee wasted little time as the announcement was made that Hollywood Hogan was indeed getting his shot at Triple H for the WWF Undisputed Championship at Backlash. But Chris Jericho had the chance to win his way into the match by defeating Hogan. Unfortunately for Jericho, when one member of the New World Order is involved in a match you can bet that the others are close by. The end of the ruse of a 'match' saw Hogan toss Jericho to the floor and immediately demand referee Jimmy Korderas' attention by complaining about being poked in the eye. The Outsiders saw this as their opportunity to strike as they appeared through the crowd and laid a beating on Y2J, leaving him to be counted out and solidifying the main event of Backlash. You can't like Triple H's chances when it looks like it'll unofficially be a 3 on 1 handicap match.
The main event wasn't the only time that Scott Hall and Kevin Nash made their presence felt as they came through the crowd earlier in the night to disrupt the six person tag match between WWF World Tag Team Champions The Dudley Boys and Stacy Keibler and The Hardy Boyz and Lita. The Outsiders already announced their intentions to challenge for the tag titles but you have to wonder whether or not he Championship Committee will say otherwise due to their flagrant subversion of the rules.
The undercard of tonight's event featured some dominant performances as Tazz, The APA and The Undertaker all won in convincing fashion. The Undertaker looked especially impressive tonight as he dispatched Albert in just over three minutes in an extremely one-sided affair. He grabbed a mic after the match and said that he doesn't care about Triple H, the New World Order or the Undisputed Championship, he cares about putting anyone who gets in his way into the ground. Strong words from The American Badass.
Elsewhere tonight, Christian made his first successful defense of the European Championship against the self-proclaimed greatest European Champion in history, D'Lo Brown, Terri scored a surprise victory over Trish Stratus due to interference from the Women's Champion, Jazz, and in a huge semi-main event, Kurt Angle and Booker T teamed up to defeat Edge and Kane. Angle was able to avenge his loss at WrestleMania and do something that not many can say they've done: force The Big Red Machine to submit.
Possibly the most intriguing moment of the night involved Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar. In pre-taped video package, Heyman let the world know that Lesnar is not just another guy and that WHEN he decides to compete he will show the world just how dangerous he can be. Lesnar certainly looks the part but can he back it up in the ring? It may be a while until we find that out.
Already announced for Smackdown:
- Kurt Angle vs. Diamond Dallas Page - WWF Hardcore Title Match: The Sandman (c) vs. The Big Valbowski - Lita vs. Ivory

WWF Smackdown - March 28, 2002
Pre-taped Segment: The show opens with an announcement that the nWo has been banned from the arena tonight due to their actions this past Monday.
The Hurricane pinned Crash Holly with the Eye Of The Hurricane in 0:06:05. Rating: ** 1/2
The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) defeated The APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq) when J. Hardy pinned Bradshaw after a Victory Roll in 0:11:04. Rating: ** 1/2
Backstage Segment: In the locker room, Chris Jericho is berating Stephanie McMahon about what happened to him on Monday. Just as it looks like it's going to get physical, Edge appears to run off Y2J.
No-Time-Limit-No-Countout-No-DQ-Match: The Sandman pinned The Big Valbowski with the White Russian Legsweep in 0:05:59. Rating: ** 3/4 (The Sandman retained the WWF Hardcore Championship.)
Backstage Segment: Triple H tells Edge to be careful what he's getting into when it comes to Stephanie McMahon.
Lita pinned Ivory with the Moonsault in 0:04:37. Rating: **
Kurt Angle made Diamond Dallas Page submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:12:04. Rating: *** 3/4
Chris Jericho defeated Edge by disqualification in 0:04:27. Rating: ** [Stephanie McMahon interfered against Chris Jericho.]
Post Match: Stephanie McMahon consoles Chris Jericho after she "inadvertently" hit him with a steel chair. Just as the show fades to black she looks up and winks at Edge.
Match Observations: On a night in which the New World Order was banned from the building chaos still reigned on Smackdown. Chris Jericho did not take too kindly to getting screwed out of a shot at Triple H's WWF Undisputed Championship by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash on Monday Night in a main event match against Hollywood Hulk Hogan and took out his frustration on Stephanie McMahon. Of all people, Edge ended up intervening on behalf of McMahon and, just like that, the night's main event was set. Jericho and Edge are two of the most talented wrestlers on the roster and on any given night they're liable to put on a classic. That wasn't the case in this instance as Stephanie McMahon "accidentally" hit Jericho in the back with a chair after Edge whipped him into the ropes. Edge was equal parts angered and confused as McMahon shot him a wink as Smackdown went off the air.
Elsewhere on the card, The Hardy Boyz scored a flash win over The APA in a match that saw Matt and Jeff get dominated for most of the affair. After the match Bradshaw and Faarooq shot annoyed looks at one another but ultimately shook hands and made their way to the back. WWF Hardcore Champion The Sandman made his first successful defense of the title in a decisive six minute victory over The Big Valbowski. Pretty clear that Val's 'hardcore' experience didn't compare to The Sandman's.
The night's most competitive match was a contest between Kurt Angle and Diamond Dallas Page. Both men lost at WrestleMania X8 and were looking to get back into the swing of things. The two superstars had a back and forth match that almost ended when Page countered the Angle Slam with a Diamond Cutter but he was too beaten down the make the cover in time. Angle got his second wind moments later and finished the match with a grapevined Ankle Lock.
Already announced for Monday Night Raw

WWF Monday Night Raw - April 1, 2002
Backstage Segment: An irate Chris Jericho demands to know what the deal with Edge and Stephanie McMahon is.
X-Pac pinned The Hurricane after a flying cross body press in 0:03:36. Rating: **
Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect defeated Billy And Chuck (Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo) when Mr. Perfect defeated Chuck by countout in 0:08:32. Rating: * 1/2
Video Package: Paul Heyman announces that Brock Lesnar will make his debut against an opponent to be named in an exhibition to showcase his skills at Backlash.
Kurt Angle defeated Tommy Dreamer when Tommy Dreamer passed out in the Ankle Lock in 0:09:45. Rating: ****
Raven defeated Edge by countout in 0:01:53. Rating: ** [Chris Jericho interfered against Edge.]
Post Match: Chris Jericho continues his assault on Edge until security comes to remove him from ringside.
Non-Title Match: Rob Van Dam pinned Lance Storm with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:09:30. Rating: ** 1/4 [Lance Storm injured his knee and will be out for approximately 3 months.]
New World Order (Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated Steve Austin, The Rock and Hunter Hearst Helmsley when Hogan pinned The Rock with the Big Leg Drop in 0:15:44. Rating: ** 3/4
Post Match: The New World Order stands tall in the ring as Monday Night Raw goes off the air.
Match Observations:
Six of the biggest names in sports entertainment collided in the main event of this episode of Monday Night Raw and, somewhat surprisingly, it was Hollywood Hulk Hogan who ended up winning the fall for his team and adding to his momentum heading into Backlash. All six men battled each other inside and outside of the ring in a match that referee Earl Hebner was unable to control. This ultimately allowed Hogan to hit The Rock in the back of the head with his weight belt and them drop the leg to score the pin. As had happened so often during its run in World Championship Wrestling, tonight's show went off the air with the New World Order celebrating in the middle of the ring.
Elsewhere on the show, the strange saga of Edge, Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon continued as the show opened with an absolutely irate Jericho demanding to know what that wink from McMahon to Edge at the end of last week's Smackdown was all about. McMahon said she had something in her eye which is what caused her to hit Jericho with a chair in the first place as all she saw with her blurred vision was a *handsome* man with long blond hair coming her way and thought it was Edge. Jericho stormed out of the locker room but that was not the last time we saw him tonight as he got involved in Edge's match against Raven. Raven tossed Edge out of the ring and distracted referee Tim White which allowed Jericho to ambush Edge from behind and beat him down so that he couldn't answer the 10 count. After the match ended Jericho continued his assault on Edge until security and backstage personnel intervened. Nothing has been made official yet but it sounds like these two are on a collision course for Backlash.
Mr. Perfect and the Big Boss Man, two guys who have been around for a long time and seemingly thrown together as a team, ended up scoring a count out victory over the former tag champs, Billy and Chuck. The ending saw Chuck Palumbo grab Mr. Perfect outside the ring in an attempt to have Rico clobber him with a steel chair. Perfect was able to get out of the way at the last second and Palumbo was knocked out which led to a countout victory for the WWF's newest tag team.
Just days after defeating Diamond Dallas Page in a spirited contest, Kurt Angle continued his winning ways in an extremely entertaining (and bloody) match with Tommy Dreamer. "The Innovator of Violence" wasn't interested in a technical matchup and brought the fight to Angle right from the start. Angle answered in kind by busting Dreamer's nose, causing him to bleed all over the ring. Dreamer fought valiantly and almost put Angle away with the DDT but he ultimately couldn't muster up enough to overcome Angle and his vicious Ankle Lock.
Via a pre-taped video, Paul Heyman announced that Brock Lesnar will make his WWF debut at Backlash against an opponent to be named later. He promised that the WWF isn't prepared for what Lesnar has to offer.
Lance Storm suffered a knee injury in a non-title match against Rob Van Dam and the early estimate is that he'll be out of action for roughly three months. Storm went for a Superkick but his plant leg buckled and he fell to the mat in obvious pain. RVD seized the opportunity but hitting Storm with Rolling Thunder and then following it up with a Five Star Frog Splash for the victory.
Already announced for Smackdown 4/4:
- The Hardy Boyz vs. The APA in a rematch from last week's episode of Smackdown - Mr. Perfect and the Big Boss Man vs. Billy and Chuck in a rematch from tonight's episode of Raw - Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit
Announced so for for WWF Backlash on April 21:
WWF Undisputed Championship Match Triple H (c) vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan
Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman vs. TBA

WWF Smackdown - April 4, 2002
The Undertaker pinned Shawn Stasiak with the Last Ride in 0:03:56. Rating: * 3/4
Post Match: The Undertaker says if he doesn't get some real competition soon then there is going to be hell to pay.
Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect defeated Billy And Chuck (Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo) when Mr. Perfect defeated Chuck by countout in 0:08:45. Rating: * 3/4
Backstage Segment: The Hardyz find out that if they win tonight's rematch against The APA they'll face The Outsiders on Monday to determine a number one contender.
Tajiri pinned Spike Dudley after a small package in 0:07:04. Rating: ** 3/4 (Tajiri retained the WWF Cruiserweight Championship.) [Torrie Wilson interfered against Spike Dudley.]
William Regal made Diamond Dallas Page submit to the Regal Stretch in 0:06:47. Rating: ****
Backstage Segment: Kurt Angle bumps into Rob Van Dam backstage and lets him know that he's got his eyes on the Intercontinental Championship.
Non-Title Match: Terri pinned Jazz after a flying cross body press in 0:04:40. Rating: * 1/2 [Trish Stratus interfered against Jazz.]
The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) defeated The APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq) when M. Hardy pinned Faarooq after a small package in 0:08:23. Rating: **
Post Match: Farooq and Bradshaw have some words in the ring but end up leaving together.
Chris Benoit pinned Chris Jericho after a German suplex in 0:10:47. Rating: *** 1/4 [Stephanie McMahon interfered against Chris Benoit.] [Edge interfered against Chris Jericho.]
Match Observations: Another week, another setback for the increasingly frustrated Chris Jericho. In this week's main event, Jericho and his generation rival, Chris Benoit, were well on their way to another classic when Stephanie McMahon and Edge both made their presences felt. Benoit was starting to take control when McMahon jumped up onto the apron to distract him. Jericho wrapped his arms around Benoit's waist to try to hit him with a German Suplex but Edge appeared out of nowhere and hit Y2J with a low blow. Benoit quickly spun around and hit Jericho with a German Suplex of his own for the 1-2-3. Edge was clearly in McMahon's field of vision when he interfered but she chose to continue linger on the apron and argue with the referee. After the show, WWF.com posted a short update revealing that Jericho and Edge will meet one-on-one later this month at Backlash.
The Hardy Boyz are on a collision course with The Outsiders Monday night thanks to another flash victory over The APA. Last week Jeff Hardy pinned Bradshaw with a Victory Roll. This week Matt Hardy caught Farooq by surprise with a small package. After the match there seemed to be a bit of tension between Bradshaw and Farooq but they smoothed things over and left together with the intentions of grabbing a beer or three at a local bar.
The Undertaker kicked off the show with a dominating win over Shawn Stasiak. The Dead Man grabbed a microphone after the match and said that he's looking for some real competition. Who is going to step up to the plate? Better yet, who has a chance against The Undertaker when he's this motivated?
Elsewhere on the show, Kurt Angle confronted Rob Van Dam backstage and put him on notice that he's coming after the Intercontinental Championship. The two will meet Monday in a non-title match. Terri scored a shocking upset win over Jazz thanks to Trish Stratus. Terri jumped off the middle rope with a cross-body block and Stratus appeared from under the ring to hold Jazz's feet down to keep her from kicking out. The throwback tag team of the Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect once again defeated Billy and Chuck via countout after Perfect was able to sneak back into the ring to beat the 10-count after tricking Chuck to chase him around ringside. Tajiri successfully defended the Cruiserweight Championship over Spike Dudley thanks to outside interference from Tori Wilson. Really enjoying this. Takes me back to when I gave a damn about the product. Ha! Thanks. It's crazy but I don't remember most of what happened from about 2002 to 2005ish. I have a few big story beats planned out through the end of this fictional 2002 and it's going to get weird.

WWF Monday Night Raw - April 8, 2002
Backstage Segment: It is announced that The WWF Board of Directors have banned everyone from ringside for tonight's number one contenders match between The Hardy Boyz and The Outsiders. The scene switches to the nWo locker room where Hollywood Hogan laughs and says that Hall and Nash won't need any help beating The Hardyz just like he won't need any help beating Triple H at Backlash.
Mr. Perfect pinned Chuck Palumbo with the Perfect Plex in 0:06:39. Rating: ** 1/2
Post Match: Mr. Perfect rolls out of the ring and celebrates with the Big Boss Man. Billy Gunn challenges the Boss Man for a match on Smackdown this Thursday.
No-Time-Limit-No-Countout-No-DQ-Match: The Hollys (Crash Holly and Hardcore Holly) defeated The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer when C. Holly pinned Sandman after a roll up in 0:06:33. Rating: ** 3/4
Post Match: Crash Holly grabs a microphone and says that since he pinned the Hardcore Champion he wants a title match next week on Raw. The Sandman whacks him in the head with a Singapore Cane and accepts.
Non-Title Triangle Match: Terri defeated Jazz and Trish Stratus when Terri defeated Jazz by countout in 0:03:38. Rating: *
Non-Title Match: Kurt Angle made Rob Van Dam submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:12:37. Rating: ****
Backstage Segment: Paul Heyman announces Brock Lesnar's opponent for Backlash: former cage fighter Ron Waterman. Waterman will be in action this Thursday on Smackdown.
Edge pinned Chris Benoit with the Edgecution in 0:09:16. Rating: *** [Chris Jericho interfered against Chris Benoit.]
Post Match: Edge smiles and points to his head as he gloats about outsmarting Chris Jericho while Chris Benoit seethes in the background.
The Big Show pinned Goldust with the Choke Slam in 0:02:09. Rating: **
Number One Contenders Match: The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Hall pinned M. Hardy with the Outsider Edge in 0:12:58. Rating: *** 1/4
Post Match: The nWo beat down The Hardy Boyz until the unlikely trio of Triple H, Steve Austin and The Rock chase them away through the crowd. The show closes with the nWo too sweeting each other.
News and Notes:
The New World Order stood tall yet again as Raw went off the air after a heinous and uncalled for beatdown of The Hardy Boyz. The Outsiders already won the Number One Contenders match and the right to challenge The Dudley Boys at Backlash but it wasn't enough as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were joined by Hollywood Hogan in a post match assault that only ended due to Triple H, Steve Austin and The Rock running down to the ring to make the save.
Another Backlash match has taken shape as Kurt Angle will challenge Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam after forcing him to submit to the Ankle Lock in a hotly contested non-title confrontation. Van Dam was able to avoid the Ankle Lock for most of the match but ended up getting caught after Angle caught a flying jumping side kick from the top rope and turned it into his devastating finisher.
The ongoing saga between Chris Jericho and Edge took yet another turn as Y2J inadvertently caused his rival to pickup a victory over Chris Benoit. Jericho joined the commentary position and spent the entire match running down Edge. The action spilled outside near the desk so Jericho took the opportunity to try to hit Edge. Unfortunately for Benoit, he missed and clobbered The Canadian Crippler with the ring bell. Edge rolled Benoit into the ring and hit the Edgecution to ensure victory. WWF.com announced after Raw went off the air that these three will meet on Smackdown to attempt to settle their differences in the ring.
WWF Hardcore Champion The Sandman knows who his next challenger is as he was pinned by Crash Holly in a hardcore tag team match. Holly scored the win with a decided non-hardcore rollup and got a title shot and a Singapore Cane upside the head for his troubles.
Brock Lesnar's challenger at Backlash was officially named by Paul Heyman and that man is former UFC fighter Ron "H20" Waterman. He owns a 5-1-1 record in professional Mixed Martial Arts matches and is certainly no pushover. Waterman will make his WWF debut Thursday night on Smackdown in an exhibition match against an opponent to be named later.
Elsewhere, Terri once again scored a surprising and somewhat undeserving victory as Jazz and Trish Stratus brawled outside of the ring, leaving her to win via countout. Somehow, someway, Terri has a legitimate claim for a shot at the Women's Championship. After scoring two straight tag team victories via countout, Mr. Perfect defeated Chuck Palumbo with the Perfect Plex clean in the middle of the ring. Big Boss Man will face Billy Gunn Thursday night.
Announced for Smackdown 4/11:
- Big Boss Man vs. Billy - Ron Waterman debuts - Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Edge
Announced for WWF Backlash on 4/21:
WWF Undisputed Championship Match Triple H (c) vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan
WWF Intercontinental Championship Match Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Kurt Angle
WWF World Tag Team Championship Match The Dudley Boys (c) vs. The Outsiders
Chris Jericho vs. Edge
Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman vs. Ron "H20" Waterman
WWF Cruiserweight Championship Match Tajiri w/Tori Wilson (c) vs. TBA

liking the Outsiders/Hogan, like the early days of the NWO, a small elite power group. The inevitable showdown with Rock, Austin, Triple H would be something. Also like the RVD-Angle match up, and the three way with Jericho-Edge-Benoit. Early in your circuit you are going after the natural match ups, will be interesting to see what happens eventually when you have to mix it up more. Love the Diva matches as well.
I had high hopes for Ron Waterman myself, both in real life and in my own circuits where I used him. He never really panned out though, had all the charisma of a half empty soda can.
Looking forward to more.

Was it one of your old circuits from way back that featured Ron Waterman pretty heavily? I vividly remember him running wild in someone's circuit as TV champion or something like that.

WWF Smackdown - April 11, 2002
Prerecorded Package: The WWF Board of Directors announce that The Outsiders and Stone Cold and The Rock will meet tonight in the main event and the losing team will be BANNED from the building at Backlash.
Billy Gunn pinned Big Boss Man with the One And Only in 0:04:29. Rating: ** 1/4
Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty defeated Test and The Big Valbowski when Rikishi pinned Valbowski with the Banzai Drop in 0:07:00. Rating: * 1/2
In-Ring: Paul Heyman comes to the ring and officially introduces Brock Lesnar's opponent at Backlash, Ron Waterman.
Ron Waterman pinned D'Lo Brown with the Water Bomb in 0:02:41. Rating: ** 1/4
Post Match: Ron Waterman adds insult to injury and puts D'Lo Brown in a guillotine choke while screaming at Paul Heyman.
Backstage: Triple H is seen conferencing with Steve Austin and The Rock backstage. None of them look very pleased.
Christian pinned Perry Saturn with the Unprettier in 0:07:51. Rating: *** (Christian retained the WWF European Championship.)
Triangle Match: Chris Jericho defeated Chris Benoit and Edge when C. Jericho pinned Benoit after a lionsault in 0:13:07. Rating: *** 3/4
Post Match: Referees and backstage agents rush the ring to separate Jericho from a prone Edge.
The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated Steve Austin and The Rock when Nash pinned The Rock with the Jackknife Power Bomb in 0:09:14. Rating: ** 3/4 [Hollywood Hulk Hogan interfered against The Rock.]
Post Match: After a vicious 3-on-2 beatdown that goes on for minutes, Triple H finally makes his way down to the ring with a sledgehammer to run off the nWo.
Match observations: A lot of stories advanced on tonight's all-action episode of Smackdown with the biggest development being that The Rock and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin will not be appearing at Backlash because they are both banned from the building due to losing to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in tonight's main event. Throughout the night Triple H was seen conferencing with the uneasy allies but ultimately he was nowhere to be found when Hollywood Hulk Hogan ultimately made his presence felt at the end of the match. Triple H ran the nWo off with his sledgehammer as the show ended but the damage was already done. The odds are becoming increasingly stacked against the newly crowned Undisputed Champion.
Brock Lesnar's opponent for Backlash, Ron Waterman, looked very impressive in his debut match tonight as he steamrolled a very competent foe in D'Lo Brown. It took Waterman just over two minutes to dispatch Brown with a double underhook powerbomb called the Waterbomb. Despite the demolition, Paul Heyman looked exceedingly confident at ringside.
Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Edge put on an absolute classic of a match but ultimately nothing was settled between the three. Benoit put Edge out of commission with a series of German Suplexes but the crafty Jericho capitalized with a Lionsault on an exhausted Benoit. After the final bell Jericho turned his attention towards Edge and had to be physically separated from him by backstage officials. Jericho and Edge will be on opposite sides of the ring from each other yet again this coming Monday when they team up with another pair of Backlash foes, Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam. Billy Gunn finally scored a victory for his team when he pinned the Big Boss Man after hitting the One and Only. WWF.com has confirmed Billy and Chuck and Mr. Perfect and Big Boss Man are set to square off on Sunday Night Heat before Backlash.
Elsewhere. Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty picked up a win over Test and The Big Valbowski in surprisingly dominant fashion. Ringside microphones picked up Test telling Valbowski that some drastic changes are needed for them to be successful in the WWF. Christian successfully defended his European Championship in a well-wrestled match against Perry Saturn. The former Radical has been rather directionless since joining the WWF and, much like Test and The Big Valbowski, may need to change things up to turn things around.

WWF Monday Night Raw - April 15, 2002In Ring:The New World Order kicks off the show by gloating about how they are going to have some shiny new belts around their waists come this Sunday at Backlash. Their respective opponents this Sunday, The Dudley Boys and Triple H, come out and challenge them to a match tonight! Backstage:Tori and Tajiri intently watch a monitor to see who his opponent for this Sunday will be. Number One Contenders Triangle Match:
X-Pac defeated The Hurricane and Spike Dudley when X-Pac pinned Spike with the X-Factor in 0:06:04. Rating: *** No-Countout-No-DQ-Match:
The Sandman pinned Crash Holly with the White Russian Legsweep in 0:06:49. Rating: *** 1/4 (The Sandman retained the WWF Hardcore Championship.) [Hardcore Holly interfered against The Sandman.]
Post Match:
Hardcore Holly continues his assault on The Sandman and puts him through a table with the Alabama Slam. Backstage:
Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Stephanie McMahon are seen huddling backstage, presumably planning for their tag team match with Edge and Rob Van Dam later on tonight. The Big Show pinned Maven with the Choke Slam in 0:02:19. Rating: 3/4* Outside the Arena:
The Rock and Steve Austin arrive at the arena separately but are barred from entry by security. A WWF official informs them that they are to stay home until further notice. It looks like a brawl is about to break out but both think better of it. Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle defeated Edge and Rob Van Dam when K. Angle made Edge submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:12:39. Rating: **** [Stephanie McMahon interfered against Edge.]
Post Match:
Jericho and Angle backpedal up the ramp but are jumped from behind by Chris Benoit. RAW goes to commercial with all five men trading blows with one another as WWF officials attempt to break it up. Terri pinned Torrie Wilson with the DDT in 0:04:00. Rating: ** Backstage:
Jazz is seen laughing about the fact that Terri will be her opponent at Backlash. New World Order (Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) and The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) and Hunter Hearst Helmsley battled to a double countout in 0:19:14. Rating: ** 1/4 [Stacy Keibler interfered against Scott Hall.] [Stacy Keibler interfered against Kevin Nash.]
Post Match:
The teams continue brawling and, for the first time in weeks, Team WWF gets the upperhand over the nWo as the show goes off the air. Match observations:
The last RAW before Backlash was a notable one as the card for Sunday’s PPV event really took shape. Three title matches were made official as The Sandman will defend his Hardcore Title against Hardcore Holly, X-Pac will challenge Tajiri for the Cruiserweight Championship and Terri, of all women, will challenge WWF Women’s Champion, Jazz. Triple H and The Dudley Boys have to feel good heading into their respective matches this Sunday even though they did not win in the main event tonight. The nWo has run roughshod over the WWF the past few weeks so it was great to see the WWF Undisputed Champion and the World Tag Team Champions standing tall to close out the show. The long, twisting saga of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Edge, Rob Van Dam and Chris Benoit continued this evening as Jericho and Angle were able to score a tainted victory thanks to some timely interference from Stephanie McMahon. The Billion Dollar Princess distracted Edge long enough for Angle to sneak behind him and hit an Angle Slam before applying the Ankle Lock while Jericho and RVD fought outside the ring. Edge had no choice but to submit to avoid injury. As Angle and Jericho celebrated with one another at the top of the ramp, Benoit clotheslined both from behind and incited a massive brawl between all five men. Two of the WWF’s biggest stars ever, The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin have effectively been shut out of WWF events going forward. They both left the arena tonight with relatively little conflict so one has to wonder what is going through their minds. They've already been banned from the building for Backlash and have effectively been frozen out of WWF events going forward. Surely they won't take this lying down? Announced for Smackdown 4/18:
- Non-Title Match: Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Benoit
- Ron “H20” Waterman vs. Tazz
- The APA vs. Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi
Announced for WWF Backlash on 4/21 WWF Undisputed Championship Match
Triple H (c) vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan WWF Intercontinental Championship Match
Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Kurt Angle WWF World Tag Team Championship Match
The Dudley Boys (c) vs. The Outsiders Chris Jericho vs. Edge Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman vs. Ron "H20" Waterman WWF Cruiserweight Championship Match
Tajiri w/Tori Wilson (c) vs. X-Pac WWF Hardcore Championship MatchThe Sandman (c) vs. Hardcore Holly WWF Women's Championship Match

WWF Smackdown - April 18, 2002
Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi defeated The APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq) when Scotty pinned Faarooq with the Flying DDT in 0:06:16. Rating: * ¾
Post Match: Bradshaw helps Farooq to his feet and pats his back...before crushing him with a Clothesline From Hell.
Ron Waterman pinned Tazz with the Water Bomb in 0:03:36. Rating: ** ¼
Post Match: Ron Waterman says Brock Lesnar is nothing but hype and calls himself the real thing.
Diamond Dallas Page pinned Justin Credible with the Diamond Cutter in 0:05:28. Rating: * 1/2
Backstage: X-Pac tells Triple H that he’ll have his back on Sunday but that he needs to ‘make the call’ to ensure it’s an even fight.
The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) defeated D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry when J. Hardy pinned D'Lo with the Swanton Bomb in 0:08:05. Rating: *** 1/4
Backstage: Chris Jericho confronts Chris Benoit about attacking him Monday night. Benoit blames Jericho for dragging him into his drama.
Billy Kidman pinned William Regal with the Shooting Star Press in 0:05:40. Rating: * 3/4
Rob Van Dam defeated Chris Benoit by disqualification in 0:11:04. Rating: ** 1/2 [Kurt Angle interfered against Rob Van Dam.] [Edge interfered against Chris Benoit.]
In Ring: Hollywood Hulk Hogan closes the show by saying that once upon a time he built the WWF with his 24 inch pythons but come this Sunday he’s gonna be the one who kills it when he wins the Undisputed Championship belt and it’ll be just...too...sweet!
Match observations: The time for talking is over as this Sunday at Backlash Triple H and Hollywood Hulk Hogan will meet for the Undisputed Championship. Hogan closed the show gloating about how he's going to win and there is nothing that Helmsley can do about it. The specter of fellow nWo members Kevin Nash and Scott Hall looms large but it looks like Triple H will have some backup of his own as X-Pac met up with his long time frenemy and told him that he needs to "make the call" to make sure the odds are even. Who or what could X-Pac be referring to?
Like any relationship, tag teams invariably hit rough patches. They either endure and become stronger or fracture. Tonight we saw the dissolution of a longtime tag team, The APA. A few weeks ago The APA lost a match to The Hardy Boyz after Farooq was caught by surprise with a small package. There was some visible frustration from Bradshaw but all appeared to be smoothed over. Appearances are deceiving as tonight tonight Farooq was pinned once again, this time with a Flying DDT from Scotty 2 Hotty. After the match Brawshaw helped his partner up before absolutely crushing him with a Clothesline From Hell. He seemed pleased with himself as he left the ring to a chorus of boos. Not too long after this happened WWF.com announced that Bradshaw will battle Farooq this Sunday at Backlash.
The five way feud between Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Edge, Rob Van Dam and Chris Benoit continued on as tonight's main event non-title match between RVD and Chris Benoit ended with a DQ as Angle and Edge found themselves involved in the match. Earlier in the night an incredulous Jericho confronted Benoit but one has to wonder if the first Undisputed Champion in WWF history is actually pulling the strings while he tries to climb above the fray and make another run at the title.
Ron Waterman made short work of another tough opponent in the form of Tazz ahead of his showdown the the debuting Brock Lesnar. We have no idea what Lesnar is bringing to the table but we've seen Waterman twice now and he's looked incredibly impressive. Has Paul Heyman thrown his client into, pardon the pun, deep waters too soon?
Final Card for WWF Backlash on 4/21 WWF Undisputed Championship Match Triple H (c) vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan
WWF Intercontinental Championship Match Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Kurt Angle
WWF World Tag Team Championship Match The Dudley Boys (c) vs. The Outsiders

WWF Backlash - April 21, 2002 [Sunday Night Heat Exclusive]:Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect defeated Billy And Chuck (Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo) when Boss Man pinned Chuck with the Boss Man Slam in 0:06:57. Rating: ** 1/2 Rob Van Dam pinned Kurt Angle with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:16:19. Rating: ***** (Rob Van Dam retained the WWF Intercontinental Championship.)Post Match:A suited up Chris Benoit comes out of the back to congratulate RVD for retaining his belt but then tells him that he has his eyes set on the champ. Bradshaw pinned Faarooq with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:07:47. Rating: ** Backstage:The Undertaker looks into the camera and says that this will be the last Pay Per View event that he doesn't wrestle on and that he tried to be a good soldier but it's time for him to make a move. No-Countout-No-DQ-Match:The Sandman pinned Hardcore Holly with the White Russian Legsweep in 0:06:26. Rating: *** (The Sandman retained the WWF Hardcore Championship.)X-Pac pinned Tajiri with the X-Factor in 0:08:32. Rating: *** 1/4 (X-Pac won the WWF Cruiserweight Championship.)Post Match:Torrie Wilson consoles a visibily upset Tajiri outside the ring while X-Pac celebrates with his newly won championship belt. The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) when Hall pinned D-Von with the Outsider Edge in 0:09:50. Rating: *** 1/4 (The Outsiders won the WWF Tag Team Championships.)Post Match:Nash gives Stacy Kiebler the Jackknife as the former champions are left lying in a heap. Brock Lesnar pinned Ron Waterman with the F-5 in 0:02:16. Rating: * 1/4 Post Match:Lesnar stands in the middle of the ring with one foot on Waterman's chest while Heyman yells about how the WWF is not ready for the pain that his client is capable of bringing. Edge pinned Chris Jericho with the Edgecution in 0:15:14. Rating: **** 1/4 [Stephanie McMahon interfered against Chris Jericho.]Post Match:Jericho has a major meltdown in the middle of the ring while Stephanie McMahon slowly backs her way up the ramp. Terri pinned Jazz with the DDT in 0:05:12. Rating: ** 1/2 (Terri won the WWF Women's Championship.) [April Hunter interfered against Jazz.]Post Match:Terri sits on April Hunter's shoulders as she is paraded around the ring, holding her newly won Women's Championship high in the air. Pre-Match:Shawn Michaels' music plays as he comes out to even up the odds against the nWo. Hunter Hearst Helmsley pinned Hollywood Hulk Hogan with the Pedigree in 0:20:07. Rating: *** 1/4 (Hunter Hearst Helmsley retained the WWF Undisputed Championship.) [Shawn Michaels interfered against Hollywood Hulk Hogan.]Post Match:Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac celebrate in the ring together in a moment that evokes memories of the infamous Curtain Call that happened in MSG almost six years ago. Match observations:Wow...the band is officially back together. We really should've seen it coming as Triple H and The Outsiders never once came to blows in the weeks leading up to tonight's match with Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Shawn Michaels ended up being the mystery man that X-Pac implored Helmsley to call this past Thursday night on Smackdown and he ended playing directly into the finish of tonight's main event. The end of the match saw Referee Earl Hebner getting inadvertently knocked out by an errant high knee from Triple H. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, X-Pac and Shawn Michaels all jumped up onto the apron, making it seem like both factions were going to go to war. However, they jumped back down to ringside one by one except for Michaels, who nailed Hogan with Sweet Chin Music and fed him to Triple H for a Pedigree to secure the victory for the Undisputed Champion. The crowd had no idea how to react as the five men hugged one another in the center of the ring. I guess we'll find out tomorrow night on RAW what this means for the World Wrestling Federation and its fans. Backlash started with a classic Intercontinental Championship match between Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle. The two matched one another move for move for most of the match but ultimately RVD was able to take advantage of a rare mistake made by Angle and was able to put him away with a Five Star Frog Splash. Afterwards Chris Benoit made it known that he's gunning for the Intercontinental Championship. However, Benoit, RVD and Angle have all been swept up in the feud between Edge and Chris Jericho so it remains to be seen how all of this will shake out moving forward. Paul Heyman's prized client, Brock Lesnar, was incredibly impressive in his debut as he made short work of the very tough Ron Waterman. Waterman holds victories over legitimate WWF superstars in D'Lo Brown and Tazz but Lesnar treated him like a guy you see wrestling in a high school gym on a Saturday night. Heyman made no indication of his future plans for Lesnar but anyone who is in his sights better be prepared for a big time fight. Edge has had a Chris Jericho problem for weeks now but tonight he was able to get one over on the former Undisputed Champion, thanks in part to some mistimed interference by Stephanie McMahon. Jericho has been on edge since losing his title at WrestleMania but he went into full blown meltdown mode in the ring after being pinned. While a pinfall victory is often a decisive end to a feud, one has to think that Jericho won't take this loss in stride and move on from Edge. We didn't know it then but the reformed band/kliq/whatever has a lot of gold as X-Pac won the Cruiserweight Championship from Tajiri and The Outsiders defeated The Dudley Boys for the World Tag Team Titles. To add insult to injury, poor Stacy Kiebler was left lying thanks to a Jackknife Powerbomb courtesy of Nash. Surely there will be rematches but as of right now the newly formed group holds the top heavyweight title, the top lightweight title and the top tag team titles. Elsewhere: The Sandman retained his Hardcore Title in an extremely violent affair with the aptly named Hardcore Holly ... We have a new Women's Champion in Terri thanks to interference from the debuting April Hunter. Not much is known about Hunter other than the fact that she is a fitness model who has competed regularly on the independents. Terri might not be the most imposing competitor but having an insurance policy like Hunter will make the task of dethroning her a challenging one ... In a battle of former partners, Bradshaw looked very impressive en route to a victory over Farooq. It should be noted that Farooq wrestled in his traditional APA attire while Bradshaw came to the ring wearing a simple pair of black tights and a cowboy hat ... On Sunday Night Heat, the wily old veterans in Mr. Perfect and Big Boss Man scored a victory over Billy and Chuck, proving once again that experience trumps youth nine times out of ten.

Ooooo nice swerve. Had HBK pegged as the mystery man to call, but didn't see the whole band getting back together. Will be interesting to see where this new group goes and who steps up, although there's already quite a few ready to fight against them.
Isn't this about where the brand extension began in real life? Will you be incorporating that or just ignoring it?

Will you be incorporating that or just ignoring it? I’m not planning on going through with a true brand extension although I think there will be guys that are more likely to show up exclusively on one show or the other on a weekly basis. Not going A Show/B Show but I think Smackdown will be more of the “wrestling” show. The next few cards will provide some clarity. Like I said at the outset of this thread, this time period is very hazy to me as I was really in and out in terms of my viewing habits. The retro Observers that are currently being posted are from this time period so it’s fascinating seeing how things played out on TV and at house shows and where there are similarities with what I’m doing. I had an idea for a mid-carder that I thought was pretty good and it turns out WWE did something VERY similar. Crazy how that works. Also, it’s staying the WWF. 😀

WWF Monday Night Raw - April 22, 2002
In Ring:The Kliq celebrates in the ring to open the show. They take turns bragging about the gold they have around their waists and run down their opponents from the previous night. A massive 8-man tag match is set up for later on tonight between The Kliq and Hollywood Hogan, The Dudleys and Tajiri! Bradshaw pinned Faarooq with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:05:08. Rating: ** Backstage:
Chris Jericho meets with Chris Benoit to smooth things over. Y2J announces that he'll be the special guest referee of a tag team match between Kurt Angle and Benoit and Rob Van Dam and Edge. Backstage:
The Undertaker says that he's always looking for a fight and that from here on out when he steps into his yard it's an open invitation for someone to step up to him. Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect and Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi battled to a no contest in 0:02:17. Rating: ** 1/4 [Kevin Nash interfered against Big Boss Man.] [Kevin Nash and Scott Hall interfered against Rikishi.] [Kevin Nash interfered against Scotty 2 Hotty.]Post Match:
The Outsiders continue to beat down both teams until a host of agents and referees run down to ringside to restrain them. Video Package:
Highlights of Brock Lesnar destroying Ron Waterman are played under a voiceover of Paul Heyman letting the WWF know that it has officially been put on notice. [Undertaker's Open Challenge]: The Undertaker pinned Albert with the Last Ride in 0:02:42. Rating: ** 1/2 April Hunter pinned Jazz with the Head Hunter in 0:03:17. Rating: ** 1/2 Post Match:
New WWF Women's Champion Terri grins as she is paraded around the ring on April Hunter's shoulders. [Special Guest Referee Chris Jericho]:
Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle defeated Rob Van Dam and Edge when Benoit pinned Edge after a German suplex in 0:08:20. Rating: *** Post Match:
Chris Benoit points to Rob Van Dam and motions that the Intercontinental Championship will be around his waist soon. Goldust pinned Test with the Curtain Call in 0:03:33. Rating: * 3/4 Post Match:
A bewildered Test sits dejectedly in the corner of the ring, pained over his loss to Goldust. The Kliq (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and X-Pac) defeated The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley), Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Tajiri when Triple H pinned Tajiri with the Pedigree in 0:09:55. Rating: ** Post Match:
The Kliq runs wild as various members of the locker room run down to the ring to try to stop the beat down. Shawn Michaels grabs the microphone and says that The Kliq is writing the script from here on out. Match observations:
The Kliq is officially running things here in the World Wrestling Federation. The show started and ended with the super group standing tall in the middle of the ring with a dash of The Outsiders running amok in the middle. The Tag Champs must not have been impressed with the action between Mr. Perfect and Big Boss Man and Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi as they made their way down to ringside after only a minute or so are started attacking both teams. It wasn't until officials threatened removing Hall and Nash from the main event that they decided to back off. The Kliq faced off against the ragtag group of The Dudleys Boys, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Tajiri. The Kliq was a well-oiled machine while their opponents struggled to work together. Tajiri ended up getting pinned after a Pedigree. Chris Benoit pursuit of the WWF Intercontinental Championship has kicked into full gear. Benoit scored the pinfall victory over Edge with a German Suplex in a spirit tag match between him and Kurt Angle and Edge and Rob Van Dam. Just 24 hours removed from confronting RVD at Backlash, he once again motioned that the Intercontinental Championship is going to end up around his waist. After the show WWF.com announced that RVD and Benoit will meet on Smackdown this week with the Intercontinental Title on the line! Possibly the most surprising part of this tag team encounter was the fact that special guest referee Chris Jericho, a man who has had his issues with multiple men involved in the match, called the contest straight down the middle. Perhaps Y2J is ready to turn over a new leaf? The Undertaker made it known last night at Backlash that he won't take a backseat to anyone in the World Wrestling Federation anymore. Tonight he announced a standing open challenge to anyone man enough to step up to him. Albert, a guy that we haven't heard too much from recently, accepted the call but was ultimately dispatched in a little under three minutes. A motivated (read: pissed off) 'Taker could be big trouble for anyone in the WWF. Last night Terri won the WWF Women's Championship from Jazz thanks to interference from the debuting April Hunter. Tonight, Hunter defeated Jazz rather quickly. You have to imagine that as long as Terri has Hunter in her corner than that belt isn't going anywhere. Announced for Smackdown on 4/25:- WWF Intercontinental Championship Match: Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Chris Benoit - Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect vs. Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi - The Undertaker's Open Challenge

WWF Smackdown - April 25, 2002
Video Package: The Kliq sits poolside in an exotic locale and announces that Smackdown is a "B" show and beneath them so if you want to see them then you'll have to tune in to Monday Night Raw and fork over money for pay-per-view events.
Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty defeated Big Boss Man and Mr. Perfect when Rikishi pinned Boss Man with the Banzai Drop in 0:07:49. Rating: ** 1/2
Backstage: The WWF Hardcore Champion, The Sandman, is backstage smoking a cigarette and stroking his singapore cane. Paul Heyman saunters into frame, looks at the Hardcore title and smirks before turning on a dime and exiting stage left.
Booker T pinned Maven with the Scissor Kick in 0:05:41. Rating: ** 3/4
Post Match: As Booker T celebrates the lights turn red and pyro erupts from the turnbuckles. The lighting returns to normal as a bewildered Booker T stands frozen in the middle of the ring.
The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) and Lita defeated The Holly's (Crash Holly and Hardcore Holly) and Molly Holly when Lita pinned C. Holly with the Moonsault in 0:06:45. Rating: ** 3/4 [Faarooq interfered against Matt Hardy.]
Backstage: Mark Lloyd tries to get a word from Faarooq about his seemingly random attack of Matt Hardy but is quickly rebuffed.
[Undertaker's Open Challenge]: The Undertaker pinned Mark Henry with the Last Ride in 0:06:09. Rating: **
Post Match: The Undertaker helps Mark Henry up and nods at him as a token of respect...before flooring him again with a big boot.
Billy Kidman pinned Justin Credible with the Shooting Star Press in 0:05:32. Rating: *** [Diamond Dallas Page interfered against Justin Credible.]
Post Match: Despite blatantly interfering against Justin Credible, DDP chastises him about his lack of positivity.
Bradshaw pinned D'Lo Brown with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:03:54. Rating: ** 3/4
Chris Benoit defeated Rob Van Dam by disqualification in 0:10:06. Rating: ** 1/2 (Rob Van Dam retained the WWF Intercontinental Championship.) [Edge interfered against Chris Benoit.]
Announcement: As the show goes off the air Michael Cole announces a bombshell main event for Raw: Chris Jericho will finally get his one-on-one rematch with Triple H!
Match observations: The Kliq has been back together for less than a week but they've already done more than enough to turn the World Wrestling Federation on its head. Tonight's show started off with a video from the group where they effectively said that they will no longer be performing on Smackdown due to their collective status as "icons" of the industry. If you can take these guys at face value then their absence on the show will mean more opportunities for other members of the roster but one has to wonder why the Board of Directors is allowing this to happen with no repercussions.
Chris Benoit looked to have the Intercontinental Championship won but Edge of all people ran in to break up a pin attempt after a flying headbutt. Benoit was livid that he won via disqualification instead of pinfall and Rob Van Dam looked annoyed as well. What started as a beef between Edge and Chris Jericho has pulled in a varied cast of characters and it seems that tensions are running high between them.
Speaking of Jericho, his complaining about never getting his one-on-one rematch against Triple H must have finally gotten through to someone on the Board of Directions as the show went off the air with the announcement that the two will run back their WrestleMania match this Monday night. Obviously the dynamics have changed this time around as Helmsley has The Kliq supporting him and Jericho has...well, no one in his corner.
While Brock Lesnar rarely appears on television, his specter looms large in the form of Paul Heyman. Without saying a word tonight he made it clear that The Sandman, the current Hardcore champion, had better watch his back.
It's been a month since we've seen Kane on WWF television. And while we technically did not see him tonight his presence was felt this evening after Booker T's victory over Maven. Booker T was on the opposing side of Kane's last television match but it was Kurt Angle who dispatched the Big Red Machine with his patented Ankle Lock submission. Why Booker T? Why now?
ELSEWHERE: Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi slowed the momentum of the veteran combination of Mr. Perfect and the Big Boss Man in a rematch from this past Monday night's match that ended in a no-contest due to interference from The Outsiders. The tag team division is a bit murky right now; which team will rise above the rest to challenge Hall and Nash for the WWF Tag Team Titles? ... Team Xtreme scored a victory over the reunited Holly Family despite a seemingly random interjection from Faarooq. The former APA member has been described as aimless since Bradshaw turned on him last week. Faarooq refused to address his actions this evening; what is going on in his head? ... The Undertaker's Open Challenge series rolled on this evening and ended in another victory for the Dead Man. Mark Henry gave 'Taker a bit more trouble than Albert did this past Monday but ultimately fell victim to an absolutely massive and incredibly impressive Last Ride powerbomb. Henry seemingly earned both Undertaker's respect AND a boot to the face for his troubles.
Announced for Monday Night Raw on 4/29 - WWF Undisputed Championship Match: Triple H (c) vs. Chris Jericho - The Undertaker's Open Challenge - Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit vs. Rob Van Dam and Edge - Lita vs. Molly Holly

This is right around the time I stopped watching watching wrestling religiously every Monday. Good to see you decide that as your starting point. Kind of makes me want to go back and start watching from that time period.
Really enjoying what I'm reading so far. Glad you didn't immediately start jobbing certain main eventers to push the guys you want. Always a fan of a little bit of realism in circuits. Good stuff all around. Can't wait to read more.
