Hiro Matsuda made Dory Funk Jr. submit to the Japanese Sleeper in 0:23:21. Rating: **** 1/4
Gene Kiniski defeated Johnny Weaver by countout in 0:10:50. Rating: * 3/4
The Gladiators (Larry Hennig and Stan Stasiak) defeated Fritz Von Erich and Waldo Von Erich when L. Hennig pinned Fritz with the Axe in 0:16:42. Rating: ** 1/2
Spiros Arion pinned Wahoo McDaniel with the Atomic Drop in 0:11:28. Rating: * 3/4
Interview: Wahoo McDanial attacks Spiros!
After the match, 1/2 of the World Tag Team Champions, Spiros Arion stuck his hand out to Wahoo in an attempt to bury the hatchet. Wahoo accepted the hand and the crowd cheered as the beef appeared to be squashed. As Spiros turned his back and headed to leave Wahoo attacked him with a chop block, apparently having a change of heart.
Wahoo lays the boots on Spiros and then locked him in the Indian Deathlock. This brought out JAY STRONGBOW and he nailed Wahoo breaking the hold and Wahoo rolled out of the ring.
Strongbow attended to his partner as McDaniel walked to the back.
Nick Bockwinkel pinned Miguel Perez after a double-axhandle to the back in 0:15:10. Rating: ** 1/2 (Nick Bockwinkel retained the MCW Mid-West Championship.)
Blackjack Lanza pinned Dick Brower after a lariat in 0:15:02. Rating: *** 1/4
Pedro Morales defeated Tor Kamata by disqualification in 0:20:40. Rating: ***
After the match the Fury was beating on Morales who tried to get up but appeared tobe cut by the kendo stick shot and this brought out Dory Funk Jr. for the save!
The Crusher and Verne Gagne battled to a draw in 1:00:00 Rating: **** 1/4 (Verne Gagne retained the MCW World Heavyweight Championship.)
Card rating: ***
Match observations:
MCW held a rather large event in Minneapolis featuring the big match of Verne Gagne and The Crusher for the World title!
The ongoing saga of Gary Hart and his Fury from the Orient and Dory Funk Jr. went to another chapter. Dory Funk Jr. had to fend off constant interference from Gary Hart and Hiro Matsuda got the win with the Japanese Sleeper.
#1 contenders match as The Gladiators took on Fritz and Waldo Von Erich. The Von Erichs and the Gladiators battled to a double countout and the Von Erichs believe they were the true #1 contenders as they battled the champions to a draw a few events back but it was the power and strength of the Gladiators that was the key and Fritz fell victim to the Axe of Larry Hennig.
Wahoo McDaniel had not been happy about Spiros Arion being the partner of his long time friend and even got involved earlier this month in the six man tag team and they decided to have a match. Spiros got the better of Wahoo with the Atomic Drop.
After being attacked by Bockwinkel, Miguel Perez got his shot at the champion. Nick showed why he is one of the top guys in the MCW and got the win after a double axehandle to the back.
Blackjack Lanza came to the ring for his match with Dick Brower and was getting loud cheers as he has seemingly become a fan favourite in the past few months due to his feud with Nick Bockwinkel. After his win with a lariat over Brower it was announced over the house speakers that he would get another shot at Bockwinkel in Rochester!
Pedro Morales took on Tor Kamata (who had Gart Hart and Hiro Matsuda) in his corner for this bout. Morales looked on the way to the win but Hart entered the ring and hit Pedro with the kendo stick forcing the DQ!
Main event and this is the one the crowd came here for as Verne Gagne defended his title against The Crusher. The Crusher one of the toughest men here in MCW and he proved it by going 60 minutes with the champion. Neither man was able to get the pinfall win over the other and as such Verne Gagne retained his title belt. As he held up his title The Crusher hit him with the Bolo Punch sending the tired Gagne to the mat.
It was revealed after the match that the rematch will happen on May 31st in Chicago!
Announced card for 5/13/1963 in Rochester, MN MCW Mid-West Championship Match: Nick Bockwinkel (c) vs. Blackjack Lanza MCW World Tag Team Championship Match: Jay Strongbow & Spiros Ario (c) vs. The Gladiators Fury from the Orient vs. Pedro Morales and Dory Funk Jr.

With the Gladiators looking unstoppable and the tag champs having problems with Wahoo, I can definitely see a title change coming up.
Things seem far from over between Gagne and Crusher. Have to see Gagne though eventually going over.

I thought for a moment we might even see a Strongbow turn, but looks like the Indians will be feuding with each other. Probably the right call currently. Wahoo can be built as an effective challenger for Gagne this way.
Speaking of, the World Title match performed better than perspective. Crusher isn't generally good in the ring, so figured an hour would be brutal. Ended up being a pretty good match.

Blackjack Lanza defeated Nick Bockwinkel by countout in 0:11:50. Rating: ** 1/4 (Nick Bockwinkel retained the MCW Mid-West Championship.)
Interview: Wahoo McDaniel has a new partner
Wahoo McDaniel came to the ring and was asked about his actions last week. He stated that if Strongbow has made his decision to stay and team with the Greek strongman (said mockingly), he would find his own partner to come after the gold. Wahoo said that he has found a man who is one of the toughest men in the MCW and will not have a problem hurting people in THE CRIPPLER RAY STEVENS!
Ray Stevens comes out to booes from the crowd and says that they will gain those titles.
Gene Kiniski defeated Dominic DeNucci by disqualification in 0:14:03. Rating: **

Card rating: ** 1/2
Match observations:
This MCW event began with a tag team contest between Gary Hart's Fury of the Orient and Dory Funk Jr. and Pedro Morales. Some times in this match it felt like it was three on two as Hart interfered every chance he could get. As Funk chased Hart from ringside Morales was unable to get out of a spinning toe hold and they lost the match. Dory Funk Jr. and Tor Kamata will meet in Chicago with managers banned from ringside.
Blackjack Lanza was fired up for the match with Bockwinkel and was clearly ready as he battered the champion from pillar to post. Bockwinkel did a superb job of selling for Lanza. Lanza looked to apply the Blackjack Claw and as soon as he did Bockwinkel raked the eyes and rolled out of the ring. He grabbed his title belt and walked to the back getting counted out. Lanza could not believe the events as he won the match but not the title.
Verne Gagne and The Crusher both won there matches and will rematch in Chicago at the end of the month for the title.
The Gladiators took on Strongbow and Arion for Tag team supremacy and in what was a tough match, the champions pulled it out.
Announced card for 5/31/1963 in Chicago, IL MCW World Championship Match: Verne Gagne (c) vs. The Crusher With Gary Hart banned from ringside: Dory Funk Jr. vs. Tor Kamata Wahoo McDaniel/Ray Stevens vs. Bob Ellis/Tim Woods

Excellent to see Wahoo choose Stevens as his partner. Stevens was extremely awesome back in the day. This title reign could be in trouble.
I like what you've got going right now. My only big complaint is that the World Title kind of feels like an afterthought right now. Hopefully we get some bigger programs for Gagne soon.

So close Lanza. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a rematch coming. Don't see Lanza getting the title, but a countout victory is a good way to build him a legitimate challenger.
Dick the Bruiser should be coming back pretty soon. Maybe he gets involved in the match against Gagne in Chicago.
Looking forwad to the eventual showdown between Wahoo and Stevens and Strongbow and Arion

Good choice by Wahoo.
It's crazy that Gary Hart was around in 1963. Figured he probably didn't get his start until the mid '70s.
No better way for a heel to get heat than to walk out of a tough match. Bockwinkel is the perfect guy to pull off that style.

Blackjack Lanza came to the ring for his match but before he took on Fritz Von Erich he talked about his last match with Nick Bockwinkel and Bockwinkel walked out with the gold even thought he lost. Match observations:
Chicago, IL was the setting for this MCW event with the World title on the line.
We open up with the new team of Wahoo McDaniel and Ray Stevens taking on Bob Ellis and Tim Woods. McDaniel and Stevens did well as a team which may have surprised some observers as it was their first time together, but Stevens submitted Ellis with a Fujiwara armbar.
Dory Funk Jr. came to the ring to take on Tor Kamata with Gary Hart and Hiro Matsuda banned from ringside. That was the advantage that Dory Funk needed as he beat Kamata as he passed out in the Spinning Toe Hold.
Blackjack Lanza showed everyone that he is one of the top stars in MCW as he beat Fritz Von Erich rather quickly and let everyone know he wants that Mid-West Title.
In the main event The Crusher challenged MCW kingpin Verne Gagne for the World Title once again. This was another classic in there feud much like there 60 minute time limit draw they had before. After both men hit there big impact moves and could not finish either off. Gagne lifted The Crusher and put him on the top rope and Gagne would hit a massive superplex for the top! The crowd went wild as Gagne covered The Crusher for the three count and the win. Verne Gagne held his title proudly as he left the ring, victorious.

Nick Bockwinkel came to the ring with the MCW Mid-West Title wrapped securely around his waist. Bockwinkel said that Blackjack Lanza had his chance to get the gold was over. Bockwinkel went onto talk about all the other men who "deserve" a shot before him (forgetting that he is not putting his title on the line or competing here tonight). The crowd booed, but they got more excited when MCW President Stanley Blackburn came out and agreed with Bockwinkel that there are a lot of deserving challengers and in Winnipeg there will be a 15 man battle royal for a shot at Bockwinkel's gold!

Match observations:
Opening few matches saw Waldo Von Erich Pat Patterson overwhelm there opponents.
Verne Gagne, after his war with The Crusher did not put his title on the line but did compete for the fans in Milwaukee. He beat Mark Lewin.
Dory Funk Jr. and Hiro Matsuda did battle in an all out war in a falls count anywhere match. This brawl spilled to the outside. Of course Gary Hart can't do anything with honour as Tor Kamata interfered and split Funk open with a kendo stick! Hiro made him submit to the Japanese Sleeper! After the match Pedro Morales came to check on him as the Fury left the ring area.
Nick Bockwinkel may not think that Blackjack Lanza deserves a title shot but he is on a roll after beating Fritz Von Erich he beat Gene Kiniski who is a tough man and also been on quite a roll. Lanza announced he would be in the battle royal in Winnipeg!
NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIOMS! The reign of Strongbow and Arion came to an end at the hands of Wahoo McDaniel and Ray Stevens. Stevens hit the Bombs Away kneedrop on Strongbow and McDaniel didn't allow Spiros to make the save and they are now the champions.

Match observations:
MCW made its first visit trip to Canada as Winnipeg hosted its first MCW event.
Wahoo McDaniel and Ray Stevens first title defense was a successful one beating the thrown together team of Dominic DeNucci and Rip Hawk. Stevens and McDaniel got the win.
Nick Bockwinkel may not want to face Blackjack Lanza but he had his hands full with former tag team champion Jay Strongbow. In what was a great match Bockwinkel showed that despite his questionable tactics he is still one of the toughest men in the MCW, finishing him off with a Piledriver.
Blackjack Lanza has another shot at Bockwinkel! Lanza outlasted 14 other men and eliminated three men to earn the right for a title shot at Bockwinkel in Omaha.
Somewhere Bockwinkel is not happy.

Interview: Dick the Bruiser is back
Dick the Bruiser and The Crusher stand in the ring being booed by the crowd as MCW officials assist Gagne to the back. Dick gets on the mike afterwards. The Bruiser said he is back for one reason and one reason only and that is to gain what was rightfully his and that is the MCW World Heavyweight Championship. He broke his leg a freak accident and Verne Gagne, man of the people, took advantage and pinned him. The Bruiser says he will not rest until he gets his shot at Gagne.

Match observations:
MCW is in Omaha for the show and we kick it off with Verne Gagne defending his crown against Pat Patterson. This was a very good match to begin and great and forth. However DICK THE BRUISER made an appearance and interfered in the match causing the DQ. His partner The Crusher came down after and The Crusher hit Gagne with the Bolo Punch and the Bruiser put Gagne in the Stomach Claw.
The second match feature Arion and Stevens doing battle. Arion wanted some revenge as Stevens and McDaniel took his World Tag Team championship. Arion used his size and power to get the win over Stevens and he is looking for another shot at the champions.
Dory Funk Jr. has had a long brutal battle with Gary Hart and his charges. Funk and Morales were trying to end this once and for all and Morales forced Matsuda to pass out to the Boston Crab.
The match everyone wanted to see was Nick Bockwinkel defend his Mid-West Championship against Blackjack Lanza. Bockwinkel slowed the pace in the match as he knew that Lanza's power would be greater then his but his anger could be used against him. The match went on for nearly a half hour and then PAT PATTERSON made his way to the ring area. As Blackjack Lanza went to suplex Bockwinkel into the ring from the outside, Patterson tripped Lanza and Bockwinkel fell on top of Lanza and covered him and Patterson held Lanza's legs so he could not kick out! What a travesty as Nick Bockwinkel steals another win over Blackjack Lanza! Bockwinkel and Patterson high tailed it out of there as Lanza pleaded his case to no avail

There's an Omaha in New Brunswick? Wahoo/Stevens winning the tag titles is the highlight here for me. It's tough because I know you would hope for the World Title program to be your most interesting, but a lot of times, that just doesn't happen (look at how relatively inconsequential Backlund has been for me the past few months). Your rivalries are really starting to come together, slowly but surely.

Pretty sure Lanza is going to hand Patterson a beating in Duluth.

Match observations:
Tonight we were in for quite the show as Blackjack Lanza would do battled with Pat Patterson, the man who cost him the chance to win the Mid-West Championship from Nick Bockwinkel.
Dick the Bruiser had his first in ring action since the very first MCW event in which he suffered a broken leg in the World Championship Match. He defeated Dominic DeNucci via the Stomach Claw.
Dick The Bruiser wasn't done as he interfered in Verne Gagne's match with Fritz Von Erich by bashing a wooden chair in his back. Dick the Bruiser is showing a vicious side of himself and wants Gagne's World Title.
The rematch for the World Tag Team Titles went the same way as the previous one with Wahoo McDaniel and Ray Stevens coming out victorious.
The main event saw Blackjack Lanza head to the ring under a thunderous ovation from the crowd, some of them believe that Lanza is the rightful Mid-West Champion, but Pat Patterson came to the ring with his cocky smile. He was followed by Nick Bockwinkel, the Mid-West Champion. However, before the match could start, the MCW official asked for Nick Bockwinkel's manager's license (clearly he has none) and sent him to the back much to the delight of the crowd and Lanza and the dismay of Patterson and Bockwinkel. With that we had a clean outcome with Lanza coming out the victor with the Blackjack Claw.

Nick Bockwinkel, with his title belt around his waist, and Pat Patterson came to the ring. Bockwinkel said that him and Patterson have had a long time partnership that each other will watch the other's back. Bockwinkel said it was a shame that Lanza can't beat him, but that's just because Lanza is not at his level. Bockwinkel said that he is through with Lanza and will focus on other matters.
Out comes SPIROS ARION and he says that his actions have not been championship worthy. Arion makes it known that he wants a shot at his title. Bockwinkel says that he has already fought, but Patterson doesn't and with that Patterson attacks him and we have a match.

Match observations:
Bloomington Minnesota was the site for MCW's live event.
Fritz Von Erich got a controversial win over Pedro Morales. Morales a fan favourite here in the MCW got attacked by Frtiz's brother, Waldo during the match allowing Fritz to put Morales in the Iron Claw. Morales wasn't able to get out of the Claw but refused to submit but rather passed out.
MCW Mid-West Championship was on the line as Nick Bockwinkel took on Dory Funk Jr. Funk was not an easy opponent for Bockwinkel as the challengers continue to be tough. In what was a great match was marred by HIRO MATSUDA getting involved once again with Dory's matches. His distraction led to Bockwinkel hitting Funk with the title belt and following it up with a Piledriver for good measure for the win.
Afterwards it was announced that Dory Funk Jr. and Hiro Matsuda will do battle inside of a STEEL CAGE in Green Bay next month.
Spiros Arion was able to beat Patterson with Bockwinkel in his corner earning himself a shot at Bockwinkel.
Main event feature two of the most popular wrestlers going up against two of the toughest as World Champion Verne Gagne and Blackjack Lanza taking on the team of Crusher and Bruiser. In what may be consdered an upset Dick the Bruiser was able to pin the World Champion, this is likely cementing his claim for a title shot.

Verne Gagne taking a pinfall for his team was a huge stunner for me. Didn't see that coming. Bet the fans were pissed.
Bockwinkel continues to provide the goods in his matches. Plus, he's been extremely entertaining so far in MCW.

Bruiser getting a clean pin on Gagne is huge. Really helps the build towards their inevitable blowoff match.
Speaking of blowoffs, Funk and Matsuda in a cage should be one bloody affair.

I'll agree with what was said, Bruiser pinning Gagne is big. Gagne didn't exactly get his shoulders put to the mat that often, so this is big. Still don't think Bruiser gets the strap off him, but big none the less.
And how money is Bockwinkel?

Match observations:
Green Bay, WI was buzzing as Dory Funk Jr. and Hiro Matsuda will be doing battle inside a steel cage.
Blackjack Lanza was in action against Dr. Jerry Graham and Lanza continued to mow down oppnents.
The Von Erichs and Pedro Morales seem to have some beef due to the actions by the Von Erichs last month and Morales wanted some revenge so he enlisted Dominic DeNucci to team with him against the Von Erichs. Unfortunately for him because The Von Erichs definately had the advantage due to their team work. They got the win.
Nick Bockwinkel and Spiros Arion did battle for the Mid-West Championship. A weird ending to the match as both men were on the outside and the Greek powerhouse picked up Bockwinkel and slammed him hard to the ground. Arion entered the ring and Bockwinkel was in pain, he could not answer the ten count. Pat Patterson came to the ring and helped Bockwinkel to the back as he was holding his back.
Main event time as Dory Funk Jr. and Hiro Matsuda came to the ring after the cage and this match was vicious as both men smashed each other into the cage repeatedly. Matsuda would bust up Funk as he was bleeding for most of the match. The tough texan was able to finish him off by tying him to the ropes and pounding away on him until he escaped the cage by climbing over the cage!

Blackjack Lanza came to the ring to take on Pat Patterson. Pat Patterson rolled his friend Nick Bockwinkel out to the ring and the crowd booed loudly at the two men. Bockwinkel sure doesn't look hurt.
Crusher & Bruiser competed in tag team competition and got the win. Bruiser is looking sharp going into Superclash for his World Title shot.
Pedro Morales was fired up to take on Fritz Von Erich, but as we have learned in the short MCW history is, where Fritz is, Waldo is. This match can barely be called a match as Waldo interfered less then a minute in and the Von Erichs hit Morales with a devastating spike piledriver.

The fake injury angle is always a terrific way to get massive heat for a heel. Nick Bockwinkel played it up perfectly over the past few shows.
A spike piledriver around this time period is sure to put Pedro on the shelf for a bit.
