So I was listening to the local sports radio station on my way home yesterday, and they were doing a draft of "Summer activities". They have done snack foods, music festival bands, etc as a lark on Thursdays. It's kind of the world we are living in with so little live entertainment, whether it's wrestling, sports, movies, theatre, whatever.
Now I have to tell you, I am a sucker for drafts, I find them so much fun, even if they are pointless and ridiculous. To some extent I think its a male thing to draft and to rank.
So I was thinking of this board and figured we could do better. I have a rough outline in my head but won't bore everyone with the details now, especially if it doesn't happen.
I'm heading out to the cottage for a few days, so probably won't be back until the 1st to check on responses.
The idea would be to have a snake order draft where people would compile their own all-time wrestling roster. No real point to it other than fun as I don't imagine anyone is going to run their final roster through TNM7. You would try and compile a roster that makes sense to you, and that you would love to watch (and run). It can be all modern guys, or a mix of time periods, whatever you want; this is fantasy. You can just draft the best available and have a roster of all-time superstars or you can create a balanced roster of main eventers, mid-carders, tag teams, and curtain jerkers. Totally up to you. I was thinking a roster of 20 wrestlers, 10 other on-screen talent (commish, announcers, refs, managers, valets), and then 2 wild cards. So the only real strategy is that if you want someone who you know might be a popular choice you might want to jump on him early even if he's not one of your favourites. This is not to build the best roster, simply a roster that pleases you.
I have an idea to speed up the process by doubling up pics once we get to about round 7 or 8, and time limits, so if someone doesn't respond then they get passed over but can jump in at any time. Based on the premise of the draft it's not really a big deal to get passed over, it's better to keep the draft moving.
Anyway, sorry if I am off my rocker, but if anyone is interested in the concept for fun please respond and we'l begin around July 6-8th.
If not thats fine, this post will just sit here for eternity to make me feel shame.
