So lets face it, no matter how long you've been watching wrestling we've all seen some amazing things. Some jaw dropping events, to some downright crappy things that we either dislike on a personal level or how the story went and felt that the monkeys in our brain could have written something better. We've also seen some sad shit happen too and stuff that has made us shocked and we couldn't believe what we read.. (Examples of both Owen & Benoit)
It's now been over 10 (2007) years since the Benoit incident (not sure what else to call it) Honestly it makes me feel rather old thinking about that and while he may have had his face/name/image wiped from WWE's site we all know and no doubt own some media of some sort that Benoit is in... Truthfully I have the Chris Benoit Hard Knocks DVD I gotta say I like the biography if you can put aside with how his life ended.
With many of you running efeds based on WWE or WCW... When it comes to Chris Benoit, do you put him in ?... Would you have a character based on him put into your game ? Lets face it he's one of the best technical wrestlers and I'm sure if he was still alive today and able to wrestle he would easily give some if not all of the young kids now a run for the money.
So let me hear your thoughts

Chris was a corner stone of my WWF circuit. A few months ago I wanted to go back to it but figured out quickly that I couldn't just not have him in it - it would look ridiculous. But at the same time, there is no way I'm going to portray a double murderer in a positive light.

I don’t use him at all. I don’t think I could book it.
No issues with others using him

tnmlyger - I can't say I blame you really, nobody can write that in a positive light or give it a positive spin. But deep down if you wanted to keep him apart of the circuit you could have but it depends on how close your circuit follows WWF.
mdale2k - That's my dilemma I've thought about putting him in my circuit, well more so a wrestler based on him. But that's the whole thing is nobody will know who he truly is only myself and I keep looking at it and saying to myself "but look what he did" I think if I ever had a wrestler based on him I would certainly would have to keep him face. I think making him heel would just turn my stomach.

It depends on the circuit.
I use Benoit in my WCW 1993 circuit because he was historically there. I'm going to use him appropriately for that era and that may result in him winning championships. I'm not going to job him out or anything like that, although if he were to quit the circuit I would probably never try to resign him. Booking a historical circuit is essentially writing alternate history, and maybe in that timeline he never marries Nancy?
For "timeless" circuits though I probably would never use him.

I think it's really up to the user. Like Josh L., I do a historical circuit and I'm sure I've already used some problematic wrestlers already. But that's the appeal of TNM. The world is what you want it to be. It's why Barry Horowitz can be World champion and Hulk Hogan can be enhancement talent.

I had him in my circuit for about six to eight cards. I didn't use his real name. I don't know if it was I was trying to be secretive about it or what? Or perhaps I was feeling ashamed that I was using him. But I wanted to compare him to a few wrestlers on my circuit. The first match I gave him a non title match against my (then) champion who is based on Kurt Angle. As Chris I gave him the name Sean "The Cobra" Duncan The breakdown for the few cards I ran with him against Kurt was this... Ironically I gave Kurt the name Bronze honestly no real reason and it wasn't making fun of his Olympic success but I originally created that name a long time ago and just recently brought him back when my Random Wrestler Generator started to cause problems. But anyways here's the breakdown of the few matches the two had, and yes this is in order:
Sean Duncan and Bronze battled to a draw in 0:20:00. Rating: ** 1/2
No-Time-Limit-Match: Bronze defeated Sean Duncan by countout in 0:10:44. Rating: * 3/4
No-Time-Limit-Match: Sean Duncan defeated Bronze when Bronze passed out in the Crippler Crossface in 0:16:38. Rating: ****
Bronze made Sean Duncan submit to the Bronze Slam in 0:08:43. Rating: *** 1/4 (Bronze retained the KWO AOA World.)
As quick as I had him (Benoit) enter he left after that final match..
LillaThrilla - So you hire your wrestlers ?, I've always had my circuit set as a email league so I didn't have too. Although I think I may change it up to where I would have to hire them. As anyone who leaves is just my doing of being tired of them or running out of ideas or just wanting to trim the roster and make way for new people. I suppose it would add a bit more fun to things if a wrestler decides to quit and not me doing it since me doing it is more planned... .. In fact I just changed things up and had to hire wrestlers, think that's kind of cool. I already had a few including one whose based on Brock Lesnar tell me they didn't want to work for me right now
Snabbit888 - I was recently on your site and I seen that's what you did with Hulk, I like how you listed all your five star matches, honestly I don't think I have ever had one

I already had a few including one whose based on Brock Lesnar tell me they didn't want to work for me right now When I'm starting out I usually hire everyone for my starting roster in email mode so nobody can refuse, then I change to Hired Only so people can leave or refuse to resign on their own accord. Hiring new talent after the beginning it depends. If I'm just bringing in a fresh body I'll let TNM decide if he's hired or not. If there's a pivotal angle, I'll switch to email mode to make the guaranteed hiring. In my IHLW, the big angle leading to the Roman Reigns vs Jon Moxley War Games match turned into a disaster when two members of Roman's Dawg Pound quit on consecutive shows, leading to the audible to Alpha Fight.

As I said I changed to hiring mode just to add something different and perhaps help me with a few things. I hired everyone for 25 cards. I ran one so far. So naturally no problems yet. But sadly I hope I do have problems with wrestlers as it should add to it and give me less thinking about what to do.
But I've decided to take a break for a day or so and run other fantasy sports such as baseball, basketball and football as well on my fantasy sports website that I do with my friends.

On a side note, your website appears to be down.. Or at least not loading. Thanks for the heads up. Third time this year this problem has happened. For some reason the server IP address is periodically glitching and simply wont load the page at all (or even return an error). I've been on GoDaddy for more than a decade without having problems until recently. Allegedly, the tech support today made changes that should hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Yeah no problem. It's funny at times paid hosts seem to have problems. I was paying for hosting recently and I have three sties.. My own, my fantasy wrestling circuit and one for my fantasy sports.. I had 20GB of storage with a paid hosting company and I couldn't upload anything and nobody on the opposite end could understand it. I moved to a freehosting site (AwardSpace) and I've been able to upload more.. Now they are offering me a deal for more space. I may take it As it's less than $1 for the first year. I get it, it's US$ but for cheap as it is. I did look at GoDaddy but wasn't impressed by the pricing

I don't use Benoit at all. Just too dark to think about the different situations. Wouldn't feel right booking him as a heel, attacking someone with a chokehold. Just cringed at even the thought of putting that in an angle.

cardsflyinhigh - Trust me I understand, as I said above I had him wrestling someone I had based on Kurt Angle for the championship.. One of the matches he won via crippler crossface and I remember when it popped up on screen I just sat frozen about it and thoughts flashed through my mind. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about what he did. I felt my stomach drop and then I thought to myself "I have to do two things, the first is hope he doesn't win the 3rd match as it was best of three... The second was I have to release him" I then discovered a tv show called Dark Side Of The Ring. It's interesting and they aired a two hour segment on Benoit en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Side_of_the_RingThey have a few interesting episodes, check it out if you've got the ability.

Enough time has passed I can go back and watch old PPVs, Royal Rumbles, Wrestlemanias etc.. with him and not think about it. In my WCW circuit my sim went through the time he came as a Horsemen, I just moved on, had someone else fill that role (which actually I think turned out to be a better fit, but you all can judge that when my posts get around to that point).

To say that you have me curious is an understatement.
I'm no different, enough time has passed for me that I can watch old stuff with him and not really think about it. Although being completely honest a few years back I decided to spend the money on Hardknocks the Chris Benoit story. What can I say I like biographies and depending on who the person is they would try and offload it for cheap. I think I bought it on amazon and the person was offloading it for rather cheap. I sat down and watched the biography portion and I just sat in awe, it was like I was just learning about Chris and at the end of it I had trouble sleeping for a few nights because my mind was constantly thinking and trying to put the puzzle together. Was it actually Chris that did all those heinous acts ? Or was something else wrong with him as they speculated.
I think Chris Jericho said it best near the end of the second part on the Darkside Of The Ring portion about Benoit now I'm paraphrasing this but it was more or less Jericho saying "I think it would have destroyed Benoit knowing that what he did almost completely killed the business he loved"
Going along the same lines as the Benoit stuff but kinda stepping off of the subject a tiny bit. I'm surprised that they allow Daniel Bryan to use the crossface as one of his finishers and they kept the same name as that too. I'm sure that didn't sit well with Vince among others as I'm sure that gave various people flashbacks of Benoit.

I'm sure that didn't sit well with Vince among others as I'm sure that gave various people flashbacks of Benoit. Has WWE ever called Bryan's move the crossface? Certainly not the Crippler Crossface. He called it the LaBell Lock early on, after Gene LaBell (which WWE pointed out), and later the Yes Lock or No Lock at times with the "Yes Movement" and his heel turn. I don't see much of a mystery about the end of Benoit's life. People can't fathom how he could he do what he did. He was a mentally-ill, brain-damaged person (probably the former even before the latter). People with dysfunctional brains do messed up things. (In computer terms: GIGO - garbage in, garbage out. If your perception of reality is screwed up, your behavior will be too.) Some try to get help, and sometimes the help is actually helpful. Most just self-medicate with substances abuse and have unhealthy relationships. Some make art as a coping mechanism. Some kill themselves. Lots of them seemingly just act strange and suffer in silence as they try to make their way through a world they can't understand with problems they can't fix. It can manifest itself in lots of ways and usually people don't recognize it for what it is until it's too late. People teeter on the edge, sometimes for a long time. Sometimes they fall, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they take others with them. I think it's mostly chance, a complicated cocktail of factors. As a society, we don't take mental illness seriously and we don't talk about suicide. Some people excuse Benoit's behavior because of his mental illness and brain damage. Most wont, and I'm not arguing that we should. Rather that what should accept it for what it is. He did should have been a lesson and a wakeup call, but he wasn't. Nor was Robin Williams. Society will bemoan the tragedy then wring their hands and resume business as usual.

I don't know if the move actually got called crossface, I know like you it wouldn't be called crippler crossface that's for damn sure.
Can't help but agree with your middle part about mental health. I know the two countries are different. I believe your from USA, as I said before I'm from Canada and one of our big phone companies called Bell once a year they do this "Bell Talks" thing well the name they give it is #BellTalks since lets face it in this day and age it seems like everything needs a damn hashtag for people to pay attention to it... But they say that everytime that line is used on the one day in different posts the company will donate X amount. But the thing is I don't want to get into the argument of if they will or don't and where the money goes or if it's just a publicity stunt. But the media uses the term "mental health" so frequently and for all the wrong reasons.. Guy commits mass murder they slap that tag on it, famous celebrity kills himself they slap that tag on it.. No wonder people are scared to step forward and say "I have mental health" you'll looked at as a fucking psychopath because of how the media is making it look. Your also exactly right we don't talk about suicide it's like an unwritten law that we don't talk about it openly. I'm not saying that it's the greatest topic to talk about openly but certain topics need to be talked about more openly.. Especially in sports, how many sports athletes have died via suicide ? It seems to be a common thing I hate to say it and I'm sure the numbers would be astonishing.

He was a mentally-ill, brain-damaged person (probably the former even before the latter). As somebody who knew him well and for a very long time, I'd say that is accurate. He became more and more withdrawn with every year since at least late 1999.
