As the subject says... Whose your favorite wrestler based on the character he played not the push.. More so like midcard wrestlers who never got a title or a major title but you just liked the character they played and found them entertaining ??
For me...
Papa Shango - I liked the voodoo character, they did a few cool things with him with the black slime. According to Charles Wright he was suppose to make a comeback as him but they scrapped it.. Even had a new look.
Boogeyman - To me this had all sorts of potential. After all we all are afraid of something and at times our fears are summed up by one word "boogeyman" as it's taken many shapes over the years.
Mortis - I thought the battles between him and Glacier were great even though Bishoff later said the ideas behind them was Mortal Kombat based I liked the characters.
Masahiro Chono - Always liked the japanese mafia (yakuza) look.
That's all I can think of, I think Chono was big over in Japan but I'm sure between all of us we can name a number of talents who were big over in Japan or Mexico and they never amounted to much when hitting the majors over here.

Lord Steven Regal - the British snob, fantastic
Tajiri - great in ring in ECW, great character in WWF
Goldust - had no use for Dustin as himself but Goldust was ummm...interesting
John Morrison - always pulled off the "superstar" look
Berlyn - never liked Alex Wright until this one
Sean O'Haire's short lived devil's advocate
Repo Man
and of course Waylon Mercy
off the top of my head

Good list. Berlyn yup definitely although I think he came out at the wrong time since his gimmick rubbed people the wrong way since it was so close to Columbine

Agree with you on Papa Shango. As a little kid he was terrifying. I thought he really put a curse on the Ultimate Warrior to have black sludge pour down his head.
Some others, Van Hammer (I was big into hair metal), Disco Inferno, Val Venis. One from more recent times, Black Machismo Jay Lethal. And ....
... I might get some hate for this one ...
The Fat chick Thriller Mike Awesome

Sometimes reading these names I youtube them just as a refresh. Definitely a good list.
Back when I started my circuit, Mike Awesome was my first ever champ. But I called him Awezome. I didn't know if Mike would be classed as midcard wrestler or not. To be honest I always struggle with the definition of a midcard wrestler especially when involving ECW since someone like Mike did hold the ECW Title.. But he didn't do anything big in WWE/WCW it's similar to most if not all of the ECW guys, they had a number of great champions but they never really stacked up when they went to the other two.

Mike Awesome was a definitely a main event level performer. But the Fat Chick Thriller was 100% midcard lol

The Fat chick Thriller Mike Awesome Hey, a fellow hair metal fan here. So many of my created wrestlers have that bent. They would remind you of Sebastien Bach or Joe Elliott or someone like that. Of course some of mine were based around real people who I knew..who of course were all head bangers.

Sebastien Bach... Sounds like one step away from WCW's Maestro aka The Stro Nothing wrong with music inspired characters, besides wrestling and music go hand and hand.. Before I actually got listening to actual music I would constantly listen to wrestlers theme music

A lot of 80s WWF tag teams come to mind. Definitely the Islanders but also the Killer Bees, the Young Stallions and the Rougeaus.
Oh... and I'll date myself here: "The Duke Of Dorchester" Pete Doherty :-)

Pete Doherty! One of my favorite WWF guys, he had a nice run with the tag titles with Rene Goulet in one of my circuits. I always thought some of the enhancement talent of that era were more interesting than the stars. Pete Sanchez fascinated me for some reason -- must have been all that back hair -- but there were also S.D. Jones, Jose Estrada, Jose Luis (Mac) Rivera, Baron Mikel Scicluna, and of course The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz.
In the 90s, I'll second the votes for Steven Regal and Disco Inferno. I also really loved to watch Kanyon (mentioned above for the Mortis gimmick) for all the innovative moves he came up with as well as his goofy personality. Fit Finlay was also a favorite as a hard-nosed Irish brawler.
For current guys, I only really watch AEW. My favorites to watch have to be Chaos Project -- first wrestling T-shirt I ever bought in 40+ years of watching (my wife has one for Jurassic Express). I thought Luther was just nothing when he debuted, but he and Serpentico together are comedy gold. I also really enjoy watching TH2, who I think are criminally underappreciated given how entertaining they are to watch and how much fun Jack Evans has with his trash-talking. I'd rather listen to him run his mouth than Max Caster spout his lame raps anytime.

I'm not going to lie I had to google 90% of the names that tnmlyger and dewelar mentioned. I have never watched AEW but I'm starting to think I should look at checking it out so I can understand what you guys are talking about how it seemed to renew your love of wrestling.

I don't get the channels on tv in order to watch things so lets just say I have to get "creative" when it comes to wanting to watch full events.
Last night I watched the latest episode of Dynamite so from one episode and not know much nor many of the talent going in I will say this
Penta El Zero M (aka Pentagon Jr) - I enjoy watching him work, I enjoyed watching highlights of him when he worked Impact
Young Bucks - I see a bit of ECW 3D in the whole entourage thing they got going on. I personally dislike the team and think they are a bunch of no talent jackasses but I guess when your ranked high in management (them being executive vp's of AEW) you can be no talent jackasses and still get the gold.
I'm about to sit down and watch Dark Elevation
Looking at the roster they have a few people who interest me who I'd like to see wrestle, I know one I won't unless I dig up older events that being Brodie Lee
I have also eyeballed some merch from them since now they got the global listing so I can view things in Canadian currency... DAMN $37 for a shirt

The Lucha Bros (Penta and Rey Fenix) are absolutely my favorite AEW team to watch in the ring, and I'm digging Penta's recent character development. I left them out mainly because I was trying to pick some of the less pushed guys. I don't really get why they wound up teaming with PAC, but the three of them kick so much ass I'm willing to overlook that . I've never really gotten the appeal of the Young Bucks either -- I called them boring in a post about how AEW was doing six months on, and while my interest in them picked up for a bit last year they now once again get go-away heat from me. There are probably literally a dozen (maybe more) teams I'd rather watch, and sadly they look like they're going to hold the belts for a good while yet since there doesn't seem to be anyone getting built up to take them. We should probably take further discussion to the AEW board, though .
