You guys remember in the late 90's early 00's when WWE came down hard on efed/fantasy wrestling sites for using likenesses/trademarks of wrestlers?
I have a feeling that this sort of thing may be happening again, no I haven't been a victim of it but recently WWE lost the dumbest lawsuit I've read in the longest. So the long/skinny of it is this, some lady by the name of Catherine Alexander decided to sue WWE the reason for it is because WWE never asked Catherine to use her property. She's the tattoo artist behind Randy Orton's ink. Not sure if it's the tribal stuff or the skulls or everything but WWE never asked permission to use it in video games. When she first reached out to WWE about it, WWE more/less said "here's $450, shut up and go away" she wasn't happy with that sort of coin so she took WWE to court.
To make a long post considerably short, Catherine won the lawsuit on Oct 4th (she was awarded $3,750). So WWE 2k22 will no doubt be the last game to feature the superstar's ink which will suck cause from the pictures I've seen I think WWE 2k22 looks awesome for the graphics/tats that they have.
This isn't the first time that a tattoo artist has sued a developer: In 2016, Take-Two were unsuccessfully sued by artists for using basketball star LeBron James' tattoos in the NBA 2K games without permission
I can see WWE taking the tattoo options out of the game completely just to save further lawsuits about it. On top of that
So if WWE is getting sued over likeness rights, something tells me this is going to go down the chain if you will and they may start targetting efeds again
