- Yeah, I figured Sting would be one of the few faces that could defeat Jorge Gonzalez without it looking too silly. - Dusty was definitely past his prime at this point. And Vader was just about to hit his prime. - I have never actually seen the Orient Express win a match, but that is what I've been told was their finisher. - Yeah, War Games was actually used at Wrestle War '92 so it felt right to use it here. Plus it solves the massive feud I have on my hands with the Dangerous Alliance and the numerous faces they have screwed over as of late. - Thanks for the comments!

Interesting stuff with Pillman.. I have seen signs of it in the past, but it looks like the dark side on his way he is. Everything's better with Crazy!Pillman. WrestleWar looks like a solid card.

WCW Main Event 5/3/92 Atlanta, GA: Center Stage Theatre Your host is Tony Schiavone
The show began with clips from the closing minutes of yesterday’s Saturday Night. The brawl between the entire Dangerous Alliance and Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, Ricky Steamboat, and the Patriot was featured. Executive VP Kip Allen Frey’s announcement was also shown where he said that at Wrestle War War Games would take place between these two warring teams.
Tony Schiavone said that this was perhaps the most dangerous match known to man, and the odds are that somebody would be leaving Wrestle War on a stretcher.
Arn Anderson pinned Bubba Monroe with the DDT in 0:04:15. Rating: ** 1/4
Arn Anderson cut an insert promo where he stated that he was a veteran of War Games and that he knew exactly what it takes to win. Anderson said that he would show no mercy inside the steel cage and that Dustin Rhodes should ask his daddy what it feels like to be in War Games with “the Enforcer.”
Rick Steiner pinned Shane Tomlinson with the Steiner Bulldog in 0:03:28. Rating: ***
Rick Steiner, accompanied by Scott Steiner, had no problems in his match here tonight. Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner celebrated in the ring with the World Tag Titles after the match.
Pre-recorded comments aired from Col. Robert Parker and “Dirty” Dick Slater. Slater said that he was sick and tired of all the pretty boys in WCW and there was no bigger example than Johnny B. Badd. Slater promised that after the match tonight Badd would have to invest in a lot more make-up to cover up the bruises he was going to dish out. Parker said that he could guarantee victory tonight since it had been confirmed that Mike Droese would be the official of the match.
Tony Schiavone wondered what Parker was talking about, and thought that maybe Parker had finally persuaded Droese to join his stable.
Don Muraco pinned Jushin Liger with the Cave In in 0:06:09. Rating: ** 3/4
This match ended up being quite the contrast of styles and both men are very good at what they do. Jushin Liger was able to escape the grasp of Don Muraco for most of the match. Muraco appeared to be getting flustered as the match wore on. Liger had problems, however, knocking Muraco to the mat. Liger eventually realized he was going to have to go for something with a little bit more impact to take Muraco down. Liger attempted a moonsault bodyblock off the top rope, but that was the opening Muraco was looking for as he caught him in mid-air. Muraco drilled Liger in to the mat with the Cave In and the three count was academic.
After the match Jushin Liger struggled to get to his feet while Don Muraco signaled to the back. Diamond Dallas Page and the Diamond Studd stormed the ring and it quickly became clear that they planned to send Liger to the hospital to join the Orient Express. Muraco, Page, and the Studd started to stomp on the body of Liger and things were growing increasingly dangerous for the career of Jushin Liger. All of a sudden the crowd erupted in cheers as Scott and Rick, the Steiner Brothers, sprinted down the aisle! The Diamond Mine didn’t even see them coming as Scott and Rick blasted all three members of the Diamond Mine with Steinerlines. Muraco even ate a second one as he tried to get back to his feet. The Diamond Mine soon joined up on the outside and hollered out threats to the Steiner Brothers while Rick and Scott checked up on Jushin Liger. Eventually the Steiners and Liger were standing in the ring, all holding each other’s arms up in a showing of solidarity.
Hip Hop Rock (PN News and Van Hammer) defeated Jim Nash and Rip Rogers when News pinned Rogers with the Broken Record in 0:04:26. Rating: 1/4*
Van Hammer was not his normal self here as he came down the aisle without his guitar. Hammer looked like he was ready to do some damage here tonight and he did just that as he beat Rogers from one side of the ring to the other. Rogers barely got a chance to breathe as Hammer continually blasted him with clotheslines and various slams. Eventually PN News had seen enough and made the blind tag to Hammer so he could finish Rogers off with the Broken Record. Rogers never even made a tag. Hammer made sure to tell the camera that Terry Taylor and Tracey Smothers were next.
Johnny B. Badd pinned Dick Slater with the Tutti Frutti in 0:06:23. Rating: **
This match definitely did not go the way that Col. Robert Parker had planned. Slater tried to follow through with his promise from earlier as he tried to brawl with Johnny B. Badd. He apparently had forgotten that Badd is a former boxer. Badd was able to match punch for punch with Slater which seemed to shock the Texan. Mike Droese tried his best to stay out of the action, but Col. Parker kept shouting at him from ringside to let certain things slide. This was especially evident when Slater had hooked Badd in a choke and Droese started his count of five. Parker jumped up on the ring apron, and Droese simply shoved him off! Later on Slater went for a clothesline on Badd, but Johnny B. Badd was able to duck under it and Slater blasted Droese! Droese didn’t take too kindly to this as he nailed Slater with a right hook! Slater staggered around only to be met with the Tutti Frutti! Badd went for the cover and Droese delivered what looked to be a fast three count.
After the match Col. Robert Parker got in Droese’s face only to be hit square on the nose with a Droese fist. Both Slater and Parker continued to lay unconscious on the mat as Droese left the ring to close the show.
Card rating: * 3/4
WCW Hotline:
Well, it’s now clear that Mike Droese wants nothing to do with Col. Robert Parker or his stable. It took quite a few minutes after the show to get Parker to come around. Executive VP Kip Allen Frey announced a couple hours after the show that he was sad to say that Mike Droese was fired from his position as a WCW official due to his aggressive actions against certain WCW wrestlers. On the other hand, Frey said he was happy to announce that he had signed Mike Droese to a wrestling contract and he would compete in his second match ever against “Dirty” Dick Slater at Wrestle War!
It became clear tonight that the Diamond Mine had a plan to put Jushin Liger on the shelf to join his friends the Orient Express. Things were looking very bleak for Liger when the Steiner Brothers made the save! The Steiners have competed in Japan quite a bit and have always said they respected Liger’s abilities. Liger was very thankful after the show to the Steiners for possibly saving his career. The Diamond Mine were furious after the show that their plan did not come to fruition, and they became even more upset when it was revealed that all three members would face the Steiners and Jushin Liger in six man tag action next week on the Main Event!
Be sure to tune in to Saturday Night where the Patriot will defend his TV Title against Mr. Hughes, Rick Rude offers up an open challenge to prove he is the best US Champion there ever has been, Brian Pillman faces Michael Hayes after Pillman’s use of the chair against him last week, and both the Dangerous Alliance and Lex Luger have words for the WCW audience. All that and much more on Saturday Night!
And next week, in possibly the biggest match the Main Event has seen this year, Jushin Liger will team up with the World Tag Team Champions, the Steiner Brothers, to face Diamond Dallas Page, Don Muraco, and the Diamond Studd in a six-man tag match!

Every match involving Muraco is like a dream match simply because he was one of those guys who never appeared in WCW but would have fit right in.
It's going to take a lot more than a serious Van Hammer for me to get behind that team.
That's a mouthful. Nonetheless... Wrestle War is STACKED already!

Every match involving Muraco is like a dream match simply because he was one of those guys who never appeared in WCW but would have fit right in. Yeah, I really like Muraco in WCW. I had tried to hire a couple of other guys before him to throw in to the Diamond Mine, but I'm glad I ended up with "the Rock." I doubt he ever makes it out of the JTTS role. Yeah, I wasn't happy with the wording the first time so I just said to hell with it and threw as many "Wars" and "W" words in as I could. Thanks for the comments!

WCW Saturday Night 5/9/92 Atlanta, GA: Center Stage Theatre Your hosts are Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone
The show began with “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Paul E. Dangerously coming down the aisle. Once in the ring Dangerously went on a rant about how amazing Rude has been since entering WCW. Dangerously ran down a list of rather impressive accomplishments including Rude winning the US Title, pinning Sting, and defeating Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat twice. Rude said he had proved time and again that he was the best United States Champion there ever has been and challenged anybody to come out and prove him wrong.
The entire crowd erupted when Lex Luger’s music hit! Luger walked out but apparently not to wrestle as he was once again dressed in a suit. Luger joined Rude and Dangerously in the ring and the two had a small stare-down. Luger motioned that he wanted a microphone and he was given one. Luger said that he was a former United States champion and that he almost took offense to Rude calling himself the best champion ever. Luger said he had thought about it, however, and did acknowledge that Rude was a great wrestler and probably earned the right to be called the greatest US champion of all time! This received a huge amount of jeers from the crowd. Rude accepted Luger’s statement and shook his hand. Rude and Dangerously then left the ring with the US Title, apparently happy they had “proved” Rude was the best US champion of all time.
Luger stayed in the ring and talked to the crowd. Luger said that Executive VP Kip Allen Frey had begged and pleaded for him to make an appearance on Saturday Night because the ratings have dropped and the crowds have disappeared since he left for Hollywood. Luger said the last thing in the world he wanted to see was WCW go under because everybody needs a backup plan! Luger said he would do one better than this and he would show up at Wrestle War on the 17th! Luger said he would not be wrestling, but he would be in attendance to enjoy Cactus Jack finishing off Sting’s career once and for all.
Brian Pillman pinned Michael Hayes after an inside cradle in 0:06:58. Rating: ** 1/4
Michael Hayes was a house of fire tonight as he wanted to gain some revenge after what occurred last week when Pillman smacked Hayes in the back with a chair. Both Tom Zenk and Jimmy Garvin accompanied their tag partners to the ring for this bout. Things got heated on the outside during the match leading to the referee having to try and handle that dispute. While all that was going on outside the ring Hayes was able to hook Pillman up for the DDT. Pillman dropped to his knees, however, and countered with a low blow! Pillman quickly rolled Hayes up in an inside cradle as the referee turned around to deliver the three count.
Pillman had stolen another match away from the Fabulous Freebirds! The Z-Man joined up with Pillman in the ring to celebrate while Garvin checked on his partner who was rolling around the ring in obvious pain. Zenk did not appear to be aware of what had happened as he raised Pillman’s hand in the air. The crowd actually turned on Pillman a little bit after the match and cheered on Hayes as he was helped to his feet by Garvin.
Dick Slater pinned Bubba Monroe with the Piledriver in 0:03:07. Rating: ** 1/2
Dick Slater and Col. Robert Parker cut an insert promo during the match. Slater said that no stinking referee was ever going to be able to beat him. Parker told Mike Droese that he had missed out on a huge opportunity when he turned him down. Parker said he would have led him to championship gold but instead he embarrassed him. Parker promised revenge of the worst kind as he was going to let Slater beat him to a bloody pulp at Wrestle War. Taylor Made Men (Tracey Smothers and Terry Taylor) defeated Tim Horner and Mike Bucci when Taylor pinned Bucci after a gutwrench suplex in 0:03:34. Rating: * 3/4
After the match, the Taylor Made Men went to set up Horner to hit the French Cuff Van Hammer and PN News hit the ring! Hammer and News were unable to get their hands on either Smothers or Taylor, but it was clear they weren’t done with the Taylor Made Men.
After the ring was cleared Jim Ross announced that on the live edition of the Main Event on the 17th, the show leading in to Wrestle War, the Taylor Made Men will face Hip Hop Rock with the winners facing the United States Tag Team Champions the following Saturday Night!
Comments from the Fabulous Freebirds aired where Michael Hayes shouted that things weren’t over between him and “Flyin’” Brian. Hayes said he would do whatever it takes to get his hands on Pillman again and that included putting up the US Tag Team Titles. Garvin promised Pillman that you can’t keep a Freebird down and that they wanted Pillman and Zenk at Wrestle War. Hayes said he was sick of Pillman’s antics and would put an end to them at Wrestle War when he drilled him in to the mat with the DDT.
Cactus Jack pinned Richard Morton with the Double Arm DDT in 0:04:16. Rating: *** 1/4
It had been a long time since Richard Morton had been on the receiving end of cheers from the crowd, but tonight was different. Tonight Richard Morton faced Cactus Jack. Cactus Jack tore right into Morton from the second the bell rang and faced between the choice of the two the fans chose Morton. Cactus was on a roll, however, and it really made no difference as Jack put Morton away with the Double Arm DDT.
At the sound of the bell Sting slid in to the ring and peppered Jack with rights and lefts! Sting followed those up by whipping Jack in to the turnbuckles and hitting the Stinger Splash! Jack crumpled to the mat where Sting hooked in the Scorpion’s Deathlock! Jorge Gonzalez lumbered down to the ring, but Sting had already released the hold and walked back up the aisle. Sting hollered in to the camera that Cactus Jack better worry about himself making it to Wrestle War. Sting got a huge ovation as he let out one of his patented shouts while Jorge Gonzalez helped Cactus Jack to his feet. Jack looked like he didn’t want any help as he pushed Gonzalez away but he then fell back on to his side, clutching at his right leg. Eventually Gonzalez picked Cactus Jack up on his shoulder and carried him out. Oddly, Cactus Jack had a grin on his face the entire time, shouting out “Bang, bang!”
Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone both wondered about the severity of Cactus Jack’s injury. Ross knew that nobody can handle pain quite like Cactus Jack, but Schiavone mentioned that it didn’t matter how tough you are if you can’t stand up. Ross said that doctors would be checking up on Cactus’ leg and there would hopefully be some information on the hotline later on tonight.
The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton) defeated Mustafa Saed and Kevin Neal when B. Eaton pinned Neal with the Alabama Jam in 0:03:20. Rating: **
Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton had a little bit of a disagreement during the match as to who was going to finish things off, but it was finally decided when Anderson hit Neal with the DDT and Eaton immediately flied off with the Alabama Jam for the victory. After the match the two men got in to a small argument, but Paul E. Dangerously was there to break it up. From there Dangerously called out the rest of the Alliance to ringside.
Dangerously took time to point at each man in the alliance from Anderson, to Eaton, to Zbyszko, and finally to Rude. Dangerously wanted it made clear that he was not responsible for what happened in War Games. He said that if Ricky Steamboat couldn’t pick up his kid ever again, or if Windham’s hand was useless for the rest of his life, or if Rhodes was stuck in a wheelchair, that it was no fault of his own. He said that blame lays on Kip Alley Frey for forcing them into this match. He then said he was going to give the best piece of advice he could give to a newcomer in this situation and that was to QUIT! Paul E. said the Patriot was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and that there was no shame in leaving the other side down a man. Zbyszko joined in saying that if the Patriot made the mistake of going in to War Games that the four members of the Dangerous Alliance have already pointed him out as the weak link. Zybszko claimed he was the master of “crunching” the weak link into oblivion.
In the interview area Gordon Solie talked to Sting. Sting said he was sick and tired of hearing week in and week out that Cactus Jack was going to put him out of action before Wrestle War. Sting said he just wanted Cactus Jack to get a glimpse into what he has to deal with each and every week from him and Jorge Gonzalez. Sting said he hoped that the leg heals up very nicely so he can snap it again at Wrestle War.
Backstage Vader stood by with Harley Race. Race said that he had heard Dusty Rhodes was supposedly back at home training with Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, and Ricky Steamboat for his match with Vader. Race told Dusty that it was a complete waste of time as everybody knew that Dusty Rhodes would be leaving the arena on a stretcher after Wrestle War. Vader said that any man that puts their hands on Harley Race will from now on get three times what they dish out. Vader said that meant Dusty would not leave the ring standing at Wrestle War.
Ron Simmons pinned Rip Rogers with the Powerslam in 0:03:16. Rating: **
Big Josh came out after the match to confront Ron Simmons about last week. Ron Simmons appeared to want nothing to do with Big Josh, but after a few shoves Simmons had had enough. Simmons sent a knee right in to Big Josh’s stomach sending the lumberjack to the mat gasping for air. Simmons shrugged his shoulders and brushed his hands like he was done with Big Josh for good. Ron Simmons walked to the back while Big Josh looked on angrily from the ring.
The Patriot pinned Mr. Hughes with the Patriot Missile in 0:05:44. Rating: ** (The Patriot retained the WCW Television Title.)
The Patriot definitely had his hands full here tonight with Mr. Hughes. Mr. Hughes got a big win against Big Josh last week to earn this shot. Mr. Hughes is big, but the Patriot used his speed and strength to counter. The Patriot eventually was able to hit several consecutive diving shoulerblocks followed by one off the top rope he calls the Patriot Missile. Hughes was stunned just long enough for the Patriot to hold him down for the three count.
After the match, the Patriot joined up with Gordon Solie in the interview area. He thanked Paul E. for the advice, but said that he had come to WCW to prove himself as the best wrestler in the world. The Patriot said that winning the Television Title was part of it. He also said that he loves his country, and the one thing his country has always done was not give in to terrorists and that’s what the Dangerous Alliance were in his mind. The Patriot said he would look to put an end to their reign of terror at Wrestle War. He also acknowledged he might be the weak link on his team when it comes to experience but not heart. He vowed that he would never surrender in War Games, and if he gets his way it will be Larry Zbyszko crying for his mother next Sunday.
The show came to a close with the Patriot basking in the cheers from the crowd with the TV Title on his shoulder.
Card rating: ** 1/4
WCW Hotline:
The Patriot once again comes out the victor against a much more experienced foe. The Patriot did not take too kindly to the Dangerous Alliance’s advice to quit the match. In fact, he seems to want to make Larry Zbyszko eat his words and be the one to force Larry to give it up in War Games. The Patriot still hasn’t had a chance for much team chemistry with his partners, but that will hopefully change next week as in the main event it’s been announced that the Patriot will team with Ricky Steamboat to face Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude!
Sting may have succeeded where Cactus Jack failed. Sting appears to have injured Cactus Jack heading in to Wrestle War. Doctors tried to check out Cactus Jack after his match, but anytime one got close Jorge Gonzalez or Cactus would attack them! It is still unclear as to how much damage Sting did by locking on the Scorpion Deathlock for about fifteen seconds, but Cactus had to be in a great deal of pain as Gonzalez had to carry him from the ring. Cactus may still be grinning about the pain, but that may not be the case if he can’t even stand to face Sting for the WCW Title.
Lex Luger has promised he will be in attendance for Wrestle War. He says he is there to help draw an audience so that WCW doesn’t continue to lose its audience. Executive VP Frey is not really sure what Luger is talking about as the ratings have never been higher with Sting as the WCW Champion. Hopefully Luger eventually loses the attitude and goes back to what made him a WCW Champion.
Brian Pillman continues to uses questionable tactics to get victories. You can’t argue with success, but his success is coming at the expense of his popularity. The fans have actually gotten behind the Fabulous Freebirds in their feud with Pillman. Tom Zenk doesn’t seem to notice what Pillman has been up to as he stands behind Pillman’s actions and claims it is all a big misunderstanding.
It has been announced that Brian Pillman’s actions have put him in the spot to team with the Z-Man to face the Fabulous Freebirds for the US Tag Team Titles at Wrestle War! Fabulous Freebirds are so desperate to get their hands on Pillman that they didn’t have to think twice about this title defense.
Be sure to tune in next week when the Patriot teams with Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat against “Ravishing” Rick Rude and “Cruncher” Larry Zbyszko! Also Johnny B. Badd will be in action and we will hear more about what exactly is up with Cactus Jack’s injured leg!
Also tomorrow night in the featured bout of the Main Event the Diamond Mine (Muraco, Page, and the Studd) will face the Steiner Brothers and Jushin Liger in six man tag action! All this and much more on the Main Event!
Matches signed for Wrestle War (5/17/92):
War Games (The Match Beyond): Barry Windham, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and The Patriot vs. “Ravishing” Rick Rude, “The Cruncher” Larry Zbyszko, “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, and “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson World Heavyweight Title: Sting© vs. Cactus Jack
World Tag Team Titles: The Steiner Brothers© vs. The Diamond Mine (Don Muraco and The Diamond Studd)
United States Tag Team Titles: The Fabulous Freebirds© vs. “Flyin’” Brian Pillman and “The Z-Man” Tom Zenk
Big Van Vader vs. “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes
“Dirty” Dick Slater vs. Mike Droese

I've really enjoyed all the build up to WrestleWar. There's 3 matches I'm really invested in, and other than the freakin' Diamond Mine ( ) there's nothing that bothers me. Dusty Rhodes is going to surprise at the PPV but ultimately get defeated, as he should. Sting will persevere and keep the title. The build for The Patriot has been great too. He's clearly gotten under the skin of the Dangerous Alliance.

Thanks for the comments, Ry-Ry. Can I call you Ry-Ry?
Anyways, glad somebody is liking the Patriot build. He kind of got thrown in to this push due to Austin quitting with the promise of him defending the belt against the Patriot. So I just decided to run with it.
Wrestle War is by far my favorite PPV build I've done so far, hopefully it comes out okay.

Glad to see Droese out of the referee role. A little surprised he knocked out Slater though. The odds of defecting now, are rather slim.
The Luger thing is really cool actually. What's even more cool than the angle itself, is the fact that the entire thing was brought on by a no-show.
Open your eyes Z-Man! Don't know if you're pulling a double turn here, but Pillmann is going the way of the heel methinks.
I used to love Parker and his men watching WCW when I was younger. Where's Bunkhouse Buck? He was always my favorite of that stable. I predict Slater going down to Droese though.
Cactus Jack is bluffing, he ain't hurt! Not too sure I liked Sting locking in the Sharpshooter for 15 seconds.. I feel it lessens Jack's chances in the match at WrestleWar.ac
You've already built the foundations to the War Games match throughout several months now, and the build up continues nicely now that the match has been set. I really would have wanted the War Games match to return, in a world where there isn't gimmick matches on every PPV, of course.
I like the Patriot, hope you give him a longer and more illustrious WCW career than Del Wilkes.
Two more shows until WrestleWar?

Glad you're liking the Luger angle. That no-show was definitely a blessing in disguise as I'm not a huge fan of writing Luger, but this version is kind of fun. Yeah, I loved Parker's stable. Buck, Slater, Anderson, Meng and the Blacktop Bully. Well, maybe not the Bully. There's a reason for Sting locking him in the Scorpion Deathlock here. Can't give it away though. I would love War Games to return...maybe when Legacy was still around with Orton, DiBiase, Rhodes, and whoever facing Cena, Kofi, and whoever else. But you're right, War Games just wouldn't have that same feel when you know that next month the Elimination Chamber will be there and in 3 months there will be 3 Hell in a Cell matches on PPV. Plus the no blood rule takes out some of the fun. I always liked the Patriot. Maybe not in a World Title way, but at least enough for a secondary title reign. I'm waiting to see how he does in that role and how I like where it goes....he could do some big things. Well, I have Main Event, Saturday Night, and then the lead-in Main Event to Wrestle War. Wrestle War is already about halfway done though so it won't take me forever to post once I get there.

WCW Main Event 5/10/92 Atlanta, GA: Center Stage Theatre Your host is Tony Schiavone
The show began with Gordon Solie interviewing the Diamond Mine. Diamond Dallas Page promised that tonight we would see just what the Diamond Mine has in store for the Steiner Brothers next Sunday at Wrestle War. Don Muraco warned the Steiner Brothers that they may think they’re strong, but they have never gone toe to toe with “the Rock” Don Muraco. Diamond Studd said that there’s only one thing he likes more than women and that’s gold. He promised he’d be adding to his collection after Sunday. Page discussed his dislike for Jushin Liger and said that he might be trying to hide behind the Steiners tonight, but everybody runs out of places to hide eventually. Page then told Liger to say “hi” to the Orient Express for him. All of the Diamond Mine got a laugh out of that as Solie looked disgusted.
Larry Zbyszko pinned Scott Allen with the Brain Buster in 0:03:43. Rating: * 1/4
Larry Zbyszko said he was going to make a showing tonight of what he planned on doing inside War Games. That he did as he not only pinned Scott Allen after a Brain Buster but proceeded to hit three more consecutive ones. EMTs stormed the ring and stretchered Allen off but as they lifted him up Zbyszko tipped the stretcher over. Zbyszko got in to the camera and told the Patriot that he better think twice about entering War Games.
Pre-recorded comments aired from Dusty Rhodes from his ranch. Dusty said that he knew he wasn’t in his prime any longer and that it was a bad idea to get in to the ring with Big Van Vader. Dusty said that Vader may be big and may be tough, but Dusty Rhodes is the everyman and the everyman doesn’t back down from bullies. Rhodes said that from the minute he entered the wrestling ring in 1968 he proved he could take a beating, but he questioned if Vader could take the pounding he had planned for him.
Non-Title Match: The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) defeated Rob Cook and Bob Campbell when J. Garvin pinned Cook with the DDT in 0:03:33. Rating: * 3/4
The Fabulous Freeebirds still sang and danced their way down the aisle prior to their match, but during the bout there were a lot less games being played. Hayes and Garvin both look fully prepared to face off against Brian Pillman and Tom Zenk at Wrestle War.
Jorge Gonzalez pinned Larry Santo with the Choke Slam in 0:02:18. Rating: -1/4*
Cactus Jack accompanied Jorge Gonzalez for his match here. It’s important to note that he was using a cane. His leg was not in a cast or taped up as he apparently had kept all doctors away from his leg since Saturday Night, but he had decided to use a cane to keep him upright. After the match, Cactus Jack showed he is still capable of doing some damage as he nailed Larry Santo across the back a few times with his cane.
Tony Schiavone re-capped what happened on Saturday Night and that he still did not know the severity of Cactus’ injury going into Wrestle War. Cactus Jack’s match with Sting is, however, still on and promised it to be a brutal affair.
Marcus Alexander Bagwell pinned Rip Rogers with the Fisherman Suplex in 0:04:26. Rating: ** 1/2
The Diamond Mine (Diamond Dallas Page, Diamond Studd and Don Muraco) defeated The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner) and Jushin Liger when Studd pinned S. Steiner with the Diamond Death Drop in 0:10:27. Rating: ***
This match was a tremendous affair between six men that cannot stand one another. The Steiners, Don Muraco, and the Diamond Studd got a chance to feel each other out a bit during this match building up to their big World Tag Team Title bout at Wrestle War. Rick Steiner seemed especially thrown off guard when he realized he wasn’t going to be able to overpower Don Muraco. Things continued at a very fast pace for the entire match until Scott Steiner was able to catch Diamond Dallas Page on the top rope. Scott climbed up with Page and hurled him off the buckles and to the outside! Scott lost his concentration for a second as he celebrated with the fans, and that allowed the Studd to come up from behind and catch him off the middle turnbuckles with the Diamond Death Drop! Jushin Liger was pre-occupied hammering away at Page on the outside and when Rick Steiner went to interrupt the three count he was leveled with a big clothesline by Don Muraco. The Diamond Mine just barely squeaked one out on the Main Event tonight.
After the match, Liger and Page continued to brawl around ringside while Don Muraco and the Diamond Studd motioned that they were taking the tag titles at Wrestle War.
WCW Hotline:
The Steiner Brothers had to be shocked to be at the losing side of their match tonight. The Steiners haven’t seemed to give much attention to the Diamond Mine, and it may just cost them the Tag Titles at Wrestle War. Rick Steiner was totally off his game when he wasn’t able to out power Don Muraco, and the Diamond Studd really caught Scott off guard when he dropped him with the Diamond Death Drop.
The other storyline from tonight’s main event was Jushin Liger and Diamond Dallas Page continuing their heated feud as they continued to brawl after the match. The Championship Committee has finally had enough of these two and has ordered a match for Wrestle War! These two will meet in the ring and there will be a special stipulation for the match. The loser of the fall will be banned from wrestling in WCW for the next sixty days.
Cactus Jack is apparently using a cane to try and stay mobile before his match with Sting at Wrestle War. Sting must really have done damage when he locked in the Scorpion Deathlock on Saturday Night. Tony Schiavone will be trying to get some more information on Cactus’ health before the upcoming Saturday Night on TBS.
Larry Zbyszko seems to have his sights set on the Patriot at Wrestle War. He wanted to send a message to him here tonight and he did just that by sending his opponent out on a stretcher.
The Patriot and Larry Zbyszko will get the chance to meet up before Wrestle War this Saturday when the Patriot will team with Ricky Steamboat to face Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude. Johnny B. Badd will also be in action and we will hopefully hear more about Cactus’ condition.
And next week the Main Event will be live as we will be counting down to the pay-per-view! Wrestle War promises to be huge so if you haven’t done so already, order it now!

Violent actions from Zbysko, but it helps to build up the tension between War Games and sets the mood for the match beyond. Interesting to see the Diamond Mine eke out a win against the Steiners, seems like the brothers may have underestimated Page and his cronies. I can see you are brewing on something with the cane angle for Jack. Preliminary guess is fake injury angle

WCW Saturday Night 5/16/92 Atlanta, GA: Center Stage Theatre Your hosts are Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone
The show began with Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone discussing tomorrow night’s Wrestle War where War Games will take place. Clips of previous War Games are shown including Sid Vicious powerbombing Brian Pillman, Dusty Rhodes hitting Arn Anderson with a succession of elbows on a bloody Arn Anderson, Steve Williams press slamming Terry Gordy’s back in to the cage, and Bobby Eaton pounding away on Jimmy Garvin. Ross states that it is the most dangerous match known to man and that nobody is the same after leaving the double cage.
To the surprise of the announcers out came Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, and the Patriot. They each entered the ring and Steamboat called for a microphone. Steamboat said that each man in the ring tonight has had their troubles with the Dangerous Alliance, but that it would all end at War Games when they forced one of them to cry out that they surrendered. Barry Windham told the Patriot that he understood his worries about being involved in such a gruesome match this early into his rookie year in WCW but every man in the ring would be watching his back. The Patriot seemed to be a little upset by the comments as he replied that he was happy to be a part of the team, but that he would hold up his own end in the upcoming battle and refused to be babied. The Patriot reiterated what he said last week when he said he would never surrender or submit to people like the Dangerous Alliance, and he would take great pleasure in mopping the ring with Larry Zbyszko and the rest of the Alliance.
Dustin Rhodes finally took the microphone and announced that they had a surprise for the Dangerous Alliance. He said that he knew the Dangerous Alliance would have Paul E. Dangerously at their side at War Games to provide the game plan, and that they would not have somebody watching out for them from the outside. Dustin admitted to asking his father Dusty Rhodes to help out in that regard, but that Dusty said he was going to be pre-occupied beating Big Van Vader all around the arena that night. Dustin said that his father told him to contact another man that had the experience and the intensity he was looking for…NIKITA KOLOFF!
Nikita Koloff stepped out to a huge ovation from the crowd! Koloff walked out with his steel chain in hand and, once in the ring, he acknowledged the cheers from the fans. Koloff said it would be his pleasure to lead these men to victory at War Games. Koloff said that he had bad memories of a group like the Dangerous Alliance a few years ago that ran rampant and destroyed anybody that got in their path. Koloff refused to allow that to happen again and so he was here to lend a hand in the upcoming battle. Koloff said that he has been a part of War Games and that it is the most vicious and tough fight you can go through, but he promised he would give them all the help that he could leading in to tomorrow’s match. Koloff ended the segment by putting the chain back on his shoulders and shaking hands with each man in the ring. Barry Windham and the Patriot seemed to have a couple of words but then proceeded to shake hands as well. Nikita and the four men in the ring all stood with their arms raised to the delight of the crowd.
Jim Ross said it was a huge surprise to see Nikita Koloff back in a WCW ring but it was definitely an honor. Tony Schiavone ran down the list of accomplishments of Nikita including winning the United States Title and the Television Title. Ross said that there was no greater person that Dusty Rhodes could have told his son to get to be the team’s coach going in to War Games. Schiavone said that the Dangerous Alliance could not be happy about this, especially Arn Anderson who actually fought Nikita Koloff in the very first War Games in 1987.
Johnny B. Badd pinned Jack Victory with the Tutti Frutti in 0:05:51. Rating: 3/4*
Johnny B. Badd had his hands full tonight with Jack Victory. Victory almost was able to pull off the victory when he had him set up for the Free Fall, but Badd was able to backdrop out of it. Badd nailed Victory with the Tutti Frutti as he was getting back to his feet and that was it. Johnny B. Badd celebrated in the ring after the match as the crowd cheered.
Taylor Made Men (Tracey Smothers and Terry Taylor) defeated Chris Sullivan and Bubba Monroe when T. Smothers pinned Monroe with the French Cuff in 0:04:03. Rating: * 3/4
After the match, the Taylor Made Men pulled out two plastic guitars from under the ring. They both pretended to play them for a bit before smashing them into little pieces. They were clearly mocking Hip Hop Rock, Van Hammer specifically.
Cactus Jack, using a cane for support, joined Gordon Solie in the interview area to discuss the injury he suffered last week on Saturday Night. Cactus promised that he would be at Wrestle War even if he couldn’t walk, talk, or see. Cactus told Sting that he could not wait until he pinned Sting’s shoulders to the mat and was crowned the World Heavyweight Champion. He thought he would then hear the chants of “Cactus!” erupt from every fan watching live at the arena or at home on their television. Cactus guaranteed the fans that he would be an upstanding champion that would accept any challengers and be sure to break their bones in the process. Solie continued to ask questions regarding Cactus’ leg to which Cactus replied that it didn’t matter if he could barely walk. Cactus warned Sting that he might just break off his own leg and beat Sting to death with it if it meant defeating Sting. Cactus limped off with the use of his cane while Gordon Solie made it clear that Cactus Jack’s leg is definitely not one hundred percent.
Brian Pillman pinned George South with the Air Pillman in 0:02:07. Rating: ** 1/2
After the match, the Fabulous Freebirds hit the ring and got in Brian Pillman’s face. All three men had words with one another until Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin were distracted when the Z-Man came down the aisle and entered the ring. During this distraction Pillman dropped to his knees and low blowed both Freebirds simultaneously! Hayes and Garvin dropped to the mat in pain as Tom Zenk walked forward to check on the fallen US Tag Team Champions. “Flyin’” Brian had other ideas, however, as he grabbed Zenk by the arm and walked him to the back. When the Freebirds made it back to their feet they sprinted to the back, obviously looking for Brian Pillman.
Arn Anderson pinned Ron Simmons after a roll up in 0:06:16. Rating: *** 1/4
Arn Anderson had requested a match to showcase his brutality before War Games. Paul E. Dangerously and Arn Anderson both were very upset when they learned that the match he would be given was against Ron Simmons! Ron Simmons was a house of fire early on and never really let up against “the Enforcer.” Anderson is no pushover, however, and was able to hold his own through several underhanded tactics. Still, it seemed like Simmons might pull off the victory when Big Josh walked down the aisle. Simmons was distracted as he yelled at Big Josh to get out of there, but his lack of attention towards Anderson cost him. Anderson rolled him up from behind and grabbed handful of tights for good measure to record the three count.
Arn Anderson celebrated with Paul E. Dangerously outside of the ring while Ron Simmons yelled at Big Josh from the ring. This led to Big Josh entering the ring and after the two had words they started exchanging punches! Referees stormed the ring to break the two up, but these former US Tag Champs are not done with one another.
A video aired for a new up and coming tag team known as the Cole Twins. Clips were shown of the duo with their mullet hairstyle. The video showed Keith and Kent Cole playing basketball, swimming laps, and working out in the gym. They gave a thumbs up to the camera and promised they would make an impact in WCW soon.
After the video package for the Cole Twins, Jim Ross announced that the championship committee had signed a match for the Main Event next week where Big Josh and Ron Simmons will go one on one in a battle of former US Tag Champs!
Barry Windham pinned Mustafa Saed with the Superplex in 0:03:18. Rating: ***
Barry Windham cut an insert promo stating that he had not forgotten what the Dangerous Alliance had done to him earlier in the year. Windham said he still had troubles using his hand at full strength, and he might have gotten his revenge against Larry Zbyszko, but he blamed each and every member of the Dangerous Alliance. He said he knew the rules about forcing somebody to submit or surrender, and he knew just the move to do it. Windham suggested the Dangerous Alliance prepare themselves for the Iron Claw. Gordon Solie interviewed WCW Champion Sting backstage. Sting told Cactus Jack that he couldn’t get the job done when trying to injure him before Wrestle War, and likewise he wouldn’t get the victory at the pay-per-view. Sting knew that Cactus Jack had a bum leg and promised that he was not above using that to his advantage. Sting said this time he wouldn’t release the Scorpion Deathlock until he heard Cactus scream out that he quit.
Handicap-Match: Big Van Vader defeated Rip Rogers, Jim Nash and Shane Tomlinson when Vader pinned Rip Rogers after a short lariat in 0:03:19. Rating: ***
It’s not very often you see one man destroy three guys at once, but Big Van Vader did just that here tonight. After the match, Harley Race had to hold Vader back from continuing to demolish his three opponents. Vader let it be known that at Wrestle War Dusty Rhodes would know that it’s Vader Time! Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude were accompanied to the ring by Paul E. Dangerously as can be expected. What was a surprise was that the “Russian Nightmare” Nikita Koloff came down the aisle with the TV Champion, Patriot, and Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat! Paul E. Dangerously was obviously upset as he got on the microphone and demanded that referee Nick Patrick eject Koloff from ringside since he didn’t have a manager’s license. Patrick let Dangerously know that Executive VP Kip Allen Frey had issued Koloff a honorary manager’s license! Dangerously tried to argue, but Nick Patrick signaled for the bell!
The Dangerous Alliance (Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude) defeated Ricky Steamboat and The Patriot when Zbyszko pinned Patriot with the Brain Buster in 0:11:09. Rating: ** ¾
The Patriot seemed like he was out to prove something and not just to the Dangerous Alliance, but also to his own teammates. He convinced Ricky Steamboat that he wanted to start the match and was able to go toe to toe with Rick Rude to begin the match. The Patriot surprisingly held his own pretty well against both Rude and Larry Zbyszko for most of the match. Ricky Steamboat got his licks in too, especially focusing in on Rick Rude when given the opportunity. Things eventually broke down with all four men in the ring which led to Paul E. Dangerously trying to get himself involved in the match. This sent Nikita Koloff into action that pulled Dangerously off the ring apron and then nailed him with a big right hand! Rick Rude quickly came to his manager’s rescue which sent Ricky Steamboat to the outside as well. Meanwhile the Patriot tried to help out as he reached through the ropes from inside the ring but was nailed with a knee to the back by Larry Zbyszko. Zbyszko dragged him back to the center of the ring where he dropped him with the Brain Buster. Zbyszko hooked the leg and Nick Patrick tore himself away from the confusion on the outside to count the three.
Nick Patrick went to the outside to try and separate Rude and Dangerously from Koloff and Steamboat. Meanwhile, Zbyszko dropped the Patriot throat first on the top rope. He was preparing to do this a second time when Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham slid into the ring. They were followed quickly by Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton. It looked like things were about to get out of hand when Nikita slid in to the ring and blasted both Anderson and Eaton with Russian Sickles!! Steamboat joined up with his friends in the ring and they helped the Patriot back to his feet. All five men stood in the ring and watched on as the Dangerous Alliance slowly made their way to the back.
Card rating: ** ¾
WCW Hotline:
Well, we are just a one day away from Wrestle War and what a way for a go-home show to end. War Games is definitely going to be a sight to see. It’s almost a guarantee that every man involved in the match will be changed in some way. Not to mention Nikita Koloff deciding to return to WCW to help lead his team to victory! Paul E. Dangerously was still throwing a fit after the show ended over these turn of events.
The Patriot is still trying to prove himself to not only the Dangerous Alliance but also his own team! The Patriot is the TV Champion, but he is still pretty new to WCW and is considered by most to be a bit over his head. It didn’t look like the Patriot took too kindly to being told by Barry Windham that they would look out for him. The Patriot tried to show what he is capable of in the tag team main event tonight, but Larry Zbyszko was just a bit too crafty for him.
Nikita Koloff sure showed he has something left in the tank when he blasted both Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton with Russian Sickles. We haven’t seen Koloff in several years, but it looks like he is just as intense as ever.
Cactus Jack’s leg is definitely not one hundred percent, but he will be at Wrestle War to face Sting for the WCW Title. Sting has said that he will not hold anything back despite the injury. He also wants to force Cactus Jack to submit in the middle of the ring with the use of the Scorpion Deathlock. Cactus Jack has never given up before in a match and a lot of people think that it just can’t be done, but with the bum leg you have to wonder how long Cactus could hold on if locked in the Scorpion? Cactus Jack’s plan of injuring Sting before Wrestle War seems to have backfired pretty harshly.
Brian Pillman continues to do whatever it takes to get the upper hand. The Fabulous Freebirds will finally get the chance to get their hands on Brian Pillman at Wrestle War. The US Tag Titles will be on the line, but that has almost become an afterthought as Hayes and Garvin want to exact some revenge on “Flyin’” Brian. Tom Zenk is still standing by Pillman, but he has to begin to wonder what exactly is going on with his friend?
Big Van Vader demolished his three opponents here tonight in preparation for Dusty Rhodes. Dusty is a veteran and one of the best wrestlers of all time, but it’s getting to the point where you just hope Dusty gets out of that match alive.
Big Josh and Ron Simmons have finally had enough of one another and it all broke down here tonight. The two men had to be separated by several officials, and due to this a match has been made for a week from Sunday on the Main Event. These two men are a couple of bulls and when they collide there is bound to be some damage.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the Main Event which will lead right into Wrestle War! Johnny B. Badd and Marcus Alexander Bagwell will be teaming up on the Main Event to face Mr. Hughes and Jack Victory!
Matches signed for Wrestle War (5/17/92):

Wow, Koloff backing up the face team means that Dangerously will have little opportunity to interfere (to the extent you can interfere in a War Games match at all). The Windham-Patriot exchange may be the first signs of a future feud. I really like it when you see small signs building towards a feud, it's difficult to pull off, but you seem to be doing it great.
Hmm.. Z-Man must've seen the low blow though..
I can't seem to remember the Cole Twins, but they'll probably do good in your tag-division.
Wow, Vader defeated 3 guys, most impressive. I think it's interesting how you manage to keep Vader out of the title picture, but still gives him enough momentum to be a threat to the gold. I'm guessing he's next in line for a title shot after this though.
Great booking in the main event. Heels get the win (and not by outright cheating), but faces stand tall in the aftermath. It'll be a hell of a War Games match!
I also enjoy the fact that you do not only book to the next supercard, but has plans beyond that. It would have been easy to book Big Josh and Ron Simmons for WrestleWar, but instead you book them for next week's main event.
Do you use a flowchart, excel sheet or some other document to keep track of what's happening and when you want it to happen?
Predictions:
Droese over Slater. Droese's going to be a wrestler, and he needs a win over Col. Parker's lackey.
Vader over Rhodes. But Rhodes will put in a great showing.
Liger over Page. Page can always be a manager, while Liger has nothing to do without being a wrestler (well, he could go back to Japan).
Pillmann and Zenk over the Freebirds. They will collide eventually, but first they will have a brief stint as US Tag Champs.
Steiner Brothers over Diamond Mine. Dunno why.. just a hunch.
Sting over Cactus Jack. I really can't see what face would face Jack next, while Sting has both Vader and Luger to worry about.
War Games - The Face team takes home the win to end this feud.

I usually like throwing in a little tension between guys...doesn't always mean they will feud, but if they do it will have been built up. Cole Twins? Definitely not one of the more technically sound teams, but WCW 1992/1993 was known for some weird tag teams and an interesting variety of wrestlers. Vader, so far, has been pretty fun to book. But you're right, he might be hard to keep out of the title picture for very long...unless he loses to Dusty. Yeah, Big Josh vs Ron Simmons was this close to making the Wrestle War card, but instead it got pushed to the back burner and will main event next Sunday's Main Event. I use a notebook where I have outlines of certain PPV matches I want to take place for the next year or so, but I also try to keep everything very flexible in case something happens. Sometimes I start enjoying writing a certain wrestler or an injury occurs so I have to mix things up. Excel would be a good idea, though. Thanks for the comments.

WCW Main Event 5/17/92 Atlanta, GA: Center Stage Theatre Your host is Tony Schiavone
The live edition of the Main Event began with Tony Schiavone running down the card for Wrestle War. Clips were shown from previous War Games which highlighted several shots of wrestlers screaming in pain or men wearing crimson masks. Schiavone made sure people realized that this was not your typical pay-per-view and what these men entering War Games may go through may not be suitable for children.
Backstage Gordon Solie interviewed the Dangerous Alliance. All four men and Paul E. Dangerously seemed very confident going in to tonight’s match. Rick Rude said it did not matter that Nikita Koloff would be leading the opposing team as they had the ultimate brainchild in Dangerously. Larry Zbyszko told the Patriot that it wasn’t too late to back out and save his neck. Zbyszko begged the Patriot to back out because he did not want to be responsible for crippling another young wrestler so early in his career. Arn Anderson reminded everybody that he was the expert in War Games and he had been scarred from his multiple times inside the double cage. Anderson, however, stated there was a reason that he has been in the match so many times and that’s because it fits his style perfectly. Anderson promised somebody would be leaving on a stretcher here tonight. Bobby Eaton said that he had the endurance to go all night long if need be and there would be no way that a member of the Dangerous Alliance would submit to the rejects on the other side of the ring. Paul E. Dangerously told Nikita Koloff that he was way over his head in trying to manage this match. Rick Rude finished by stating that he might be the United States Champion, but tonight was not about title belts…tonight, to him, was about finishing things once and for all.
PN News pinned Tracey Smothers with the Broken Record in 0:06:00. Rating: **
Tracey Smothers had his hands full tonight in big PN News. News was looking for a little bit of revenge against one half of the Taylor Made Men due to them breaking Van Hammer’s guitar a few weeks back. PN News was able to dodge some outside interference from Terry Taylor to get the three count. After the match, Van Hammer entered the ring to get some revenge of his own, but Taylor dragged Smothers out of the ring and they hustled to the back. Van Hammer seemed rather upset that he once again missed out on the opportunity to put a hurting on the Taylor Made Men.
Sting cut a backstage promo promising that there was no way he would drop the WCW Title tonight to Cactus Jack. Sting said that the Title meant more to him than anything in the world, and Cactus could never do enough to keep Sting’s shoulders to the mat. Sting vowed once again to hook Cactus Jack in to the Scorpion Deathlock and pull until he heard something snap if that’s what it took to retain the gold.
Dusty Rhodes was shown driving up to the arena in his pick-up truck. Rhodes told the camera as he was walking in that if Vader thought he was going to be in for an easy night then he had another thing coming.
Jorge Gonzalez pinned Mike Bucci with the Choke Slam in 0:01:16. Rating: -3/4*
Cactus Jack did not accompany Jorge Gonzalez to the ring for this match, and there really was no need as Gonzalez put Bucci away pretty quickly with the Choke Slam.
Nikita Koloff’s team was backstage with Gordon Solie for an interview. Nikita Koloff promised that each and every man knew what they were getting themselves in to. Barry Windham said he had been inside War Games before and what everybody was saying was true, and that it does change a man. Windham promised that with the talent of the three veterans and the fire of a rookie they would not be stopped. The Patriot seemed to take umbrage with Windham’s wording there as he stated that it was not like Dustin Rhodes is some old timer either. This ruffled Rhodes’ feathers it seemed as he started arguing with the Patriot a bit. Ricky Steamboat and Nikita Koloff got between the Patriot, Dustin Rhodes, and Barry Windham to cool things down. Steamboat reminded everybody that tensions are high and to put their animosity towards those who deserve it. When things calmed down, Steamboat did tell Solie that he has always been known as a technical wrestler, but tonight the fans would see a side of “the Dragon” he doesn’t like to unleash very often. Steamboat said the “the Dragon” was out for blood tonight. The segment ended with the Patriot shaking hands with Rhodes and Windham so it looked like everything was kosher once again.
Mr. Hughes and Jack Victory were already in the ring when Johnny B. Badd walked out for tonight’s main event. Badd grabbed a microphone and let the crowd know that Marcus Alexander Bagwell was unable to team with him tonight due to a sickness in the family. Badd was sure the fans would not mind though, because he found somebody that could definitely fill the void. With that Badd announced his new partner as the “All-American” Ron Simmons!
Ron Simmons and Johnny B. Badd defeated Mr. Hughes and Jack Victory when Badd pinned Victory with the Tutti Frutti in 0:07:46. Rating: 3/4* (Marcus Alexander Bagwell no-showed.)
Johnny B. Badd and Ron Simmons showed surprisingly good tag team work with one another. They dominated most of the match. Things changed, however, when Big Josh walked out! Big Josh walked down the aisle and started yelling something about Simmons saying he was done with tag team wrestling. This led to Simmons hopping off the apron and once again getting in to it with Big Josh. This distracted both Victory and Hughes as well which let Badd hit the Tutti Frutti out of nowhere! Badd quickly hooked the leg and Hughes was unable to break up the count.
Afterwards Big Josh and Ron Simmons started fighting on the outside. Johnny B. Badd was right there to try and break things up, but Simmons and Big Josh continued to go at it while officials stormed out to help. Big Josh will meet Ron Simmons next week on the Main Event.
In the back the show came to a close with Cactus Jack being interviewed by Gordon Solie. Cactus Jack was once again using the cane, but it didn’t seem like he was leaning on it as much as yesterday. Cactus said that tonight the fans of WCW would realize what he truly is, that he is the savior of World Championship Wrestling. He told the fans that it was time to stop believing in false idols like Sting. Cactus believed himself to be just like each and every fan out there and they would see that once he became champion. Cactus said he dreamed last night of what it’s going to be like when he pins Sting’s shoulders to the mat and the fans started chanting his name. Cactus quietly started chanting “Cactus!” before raising the volume slowly up to a roar as the show ended.
Card rating: 1/4*

WCW Wrestle War ‘92 5/1792 Jacksonville, FL: Jacksonville Coliseum Your hosts are Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone
The show began with the comments that aired on the Main Event from both the Dangerous Alliance and Nikita Koloff’s team. The camera also shows the double cage sitting ominously above both rings. Jim Ross makes it clear to the fans at home that all of the action tonight will take place in the ring on the right side while the ring on the left will only be used during War Games.
Comments aired from Diamond Dallas Page before his match with Jushin Liger where he claimed he was the true patriot of WCW and would prove it when he sent Liger packing back to Japan.
LOSER BANNED FROM WRESTLING FOR 60 DAYS JUSHIN “THUNDER” LIGER VS. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE:
Diamond Dallas Page has definitely improved in the ring over the past few months, but going one on one with Light Heavyweight sensation Jushin Liger is a totally different story. Page did his best to hold his own against Liger, but Jushin was just too fast for him most of the match. Liger was able to show off some of his more risk maneuvers during the bout including a beautiful somersault tope. DDP was pretty wobbly thereafter allowing Liger to catch him telegraphing a back bodydrop. The Liger Bomb followed giving Liger the victory!
[Loser Banned From Wrestling For 60 Days]: Jushin Liger pinned Diamond Dallas Page with the Liger Bomb in 0:08:15. Rating: ** 1/4
Diamond Dallas Page threw a fit once he came to, realizing now that he would be banned from wrestling for the next two months. The fans gave him a pretty hard time as he walked to the back. Jushin Liger, meanwhile, celebrated in the ring in finally exacting his revenge on Page after the last few months of torture at the hands of the Diamond Mine.
Gordon Solie interviewed “Flyin’” Brian and the Z-Man before their big United States Tag Team Titles match. Tom Zenk promised that tonight everything would be fair and square and they would show that they are the better tag team. Pillman was a little more aloof when he said that he would do whatever it takes to win championship gold tonight. Zenk told Hayes and Garvin that as long as they stayed within the rules then they could have a great tag team match between four friends. Pillman shrugged when he commented that it was all about the titles. Pillman and Zenk entered into their own discussion as they left the area to head to the ring for their match.
Once the challengers were in the ring, Solie interviewed the Fabulous Freebirds backstage. Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin both seemed very energetic as Hayes told Pillman that he made the wrong team angry. Garvin said that the Z-Man can forget about a fair and square tag match since they were the guys to get dirty first. Hayes told them that they must have forgotten who they were dealing with because the Fabulous Freebirds can get down and dirty with the best of them.
UNITED STATES TAG TEAM TITLES THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS© VS. “FLYIN’” BRIAN AND THE Z-MAN:
This match was very fast paced and intense. Tom Zenk tried to keep things from going overboard as he tagged in whenever the Freebirds or Brian Pillman started to use questionable tactics. In fact, at one point it looked like Pillman might be able to pin Garvin when Garvin went for a leapfrog, but Pillman’s head collided with the Freebird’s groin. Garvin collapsed to the mat in pain, but as Pillman went for the cover the Z-Man reached out and made the tag. Pillman was not happy as Zenk let Garvin regain his composure before continuing the match. Eventually, the Freebirds had had enough as Hayes entered the ring to double team “Flyin’” Brian. Brian tried to fight them off, but the Z-Man eventually had to get involved. This led to Z-Man and Hayes fighting to the outside while the referee tried to break them up. This distracted Garvin while Pillman propped himself on the ring apron. When Garvin turned around he was blasted by Pillman’s springboard clothesline, the Air Pillman! “Flyin’” Brian hooked the legs, grabbed a handful of tights and put his feet on the middle ropes for extra leverage while the referee delivered the three count.
Brian Pillman and Z-Man defeated The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) when Pillman pinned J. Garvin with the Air Pillman in 0:10:31. Rating: *** 1/2 (Brian Pillman and Z-Man won the WCW United States Tag Team Titles.)
We had new United States Tag Team Champions! The Z-Man entered the ring and celebrated with Pillman while Hayes checked on Garvin. Once Garvin had told Hayes what had happened he went after the new champs, but Pillman nailed him coming in with a beautiful savate kick. The Z-Man questioned Pillman, but “Flyin’” Brian was having none of it as he grabbed his US Tag Title and headed to the back. The Z-Man followed shortly thereafter while the Fabulous Freebirds slowly got back to their feet. They were clearly not happy about losing their US Tag Team Titles, and maybe even more upset that Pillman had once again gotten the better of them.
Backstage, Diamond Dallas Page yelled at Don Muraco and the Diamond Studd. He said that next time they would accompany him to the ring no matter what match they had later on in the night. The Diamond Studd tried to calm him down, but when that didn’t work Muraco told him to shut his mouth. Page seemed shocked by this, but Muraco was having none of it as he told Page to his stuff together so he could walk them out there and watch them win the World Tag Team Titles.
Gordon Solie stood by with “the American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes was in his street fight attire as he was wearing his blue jeans, a plaid button up, and his cowboy hat and boots. It was clear that he wasn’t looking at this as a normal “wrestling” match. Rhodes told Vader that he had made out his will because he was leaving it all out there tonight. Dusty said that he never backed down from anyone and he’d be damned if he started now. Rhodes knew that Vader was a dangerous man, but he had never met somebody like him in the ring. Rhodes said he couldn’t promise victory, but he did guarantee that Vader would know he had been in a war when the match was over.
BIG VAN VADER (W/ HARLEY RACE) VS. “THE AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES:
Nobody really expected Dusty Rhodes, at his age, to be able to handle the monster known as Big Van Vader. He had been forced in to this match to save another, and people had pretty much predicted that Rhodes was in for a beating. What nobody could have expected was Rhodes coming out with a full head of steam that knocked Vader right out of his game plan. Rhodes absorbed a few of Vader’s shots and then went crazy as he leveled Vader with a flurry of elbows. Vader was caught off guard and was soon standing on the outside wondering what had just happened. Harley Race was there to confer with Vader and that seemed to calm the big man down. But just a minute or two later Vader was once again standing on the outside after Rhodes had blasted him with a huge clothesline to send him back to the outside. Vader finally got Rhodes in a mistake as Dusty tried to reach through the ropes to try and pull Vader back inside the ring. Vader nailed Rhodes in the throat causing the Texan to fall back and gasp for air. This was the opening that Vader needed as he entered the ring and really went to work on Dusty. A big splash off of the second turnbuckle almost finished Rhodes, but somehow Dusty was able to kick out. Vader wasn’t done, however, as he choke slammed Rhodes, dropped him with a short clothesline, and pounded on him in the corner followed by a huge avalanche splash. None of this was able to keep Rhodes down. Rhodes continued to kick out no matter what Vader did to him. Vader tried to end it all when he went for the powerbomb, but Rhodes was somehow able to backdrop out of it. Vader quickly got back to his feet only to be with numerous lefts and rights and finally a big elbow. Rhodes quickly followed with the big Bionic Elbow on to the fallen Vader. The crowd went crazy as it looked like Rhodes might actually succeed in defeating Vader, but Vader had other plans when he kicked out at two. Rhodes looked like he had spent the last bit of energy he had on that offensive rush and that allowed Vader to come back with a Vader Attack as he came off the ropes. Rhodes collapsed in the middle of the ring and was dragged over to the corner. Vader quickly scaled his way up to the middle turnbuckles where he came off with the Vader Bomb! Race told him to go back up and, Vader did just that, nailing Rhodes with two more Vader Bombs. Rhodes was clutching at his ribs and was in horrendous pain as Vader hooked the leg and got the three count.
Big Van Vader pinned Dusty Rhodes with the Vader Bomb in 0:10:26. Rating: *** 1/2
Rhodes had done all he could, and he showed that he still is capable of holding his own against the best. Still, Big Van Vader was just too strong and too tough here tonight for an aging “American Dream.” Race entered the ring and got in the fallen Rhodes’ face. Once he had commenced his trash talking, Vader and Race left together with their hands held high. The crowd gave Rhodes a huge standing ovation for his efforts, as he slowly worked his way to his feet. Several officials came out to help Rhodes to the back, but Dusty would have none of it. Rhodes made his way to the back under his own power as the crowd chanted “Dusty!” at him.
Once the ring cleared Gordon Solie was out to welcome a newcomer to WCW to the ring, “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith! Both Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone seemed very excited at this news as Ross ran down Smith’s history and what a great wrestler he was. Bulldog entered and shook hands with Solie to big “Bulldog!” chants from the crowd. Bulldog said it was great to finally be in WCW and that he was here for one reason and that was to win the WCW Heavyweight Title. He said he was sick about the lack of competition he’d been facing as of late and so he had come here where he knew he could face the best. When Solie asked him who exactly he considered to be the best of WCW, Bulldog responded that Sting was the champion so he had to be the best, but he also wanted to face somebody he had a great amount of respect for and that was “the Total Package” Lex Luger. This, of course, sent Luger out. Luger had said he would be in attendance for tonight and here he was. Lex Luger was dressed in his suit and tie and had a grin on his face as he entered the ring. Luger told DBS that he knew where he had come from and he respected the fact that he had come to WCW to find some real competition. But Luger added that he was a prized commodity at this point in time and he really only had time for big money matches. He said that if Mike Tyson wanted a match he’d give it some serious thought. Luger told Davey Boy to maybe give some thought about challenging somebody more his level like PN News or Tracey Smothers. Luger patted DBS on the shoulder and told him to keep trying and he might eventually get to where he is now.
Luger looked like he was going to exit the ring when DBS told him that he had come all the way down here to WCW only to see that the previous WCW champion was a coward. Luger didn’t look like he appreciated that as he stepped back in to the ring. He got back in Davey Boy’s face, but eventually DBS had had enough. DBS said he would go looking for the competition he knew WCW had to offer and told Luger that he apparently was just a has been. DBS went to exit the ring when Luger blasted him from behind with a clothesline! Luger followed that with a snap suplex and then hoisted him up in the Torture Rack. DBS tried to fight his way out of it, but there was nothing that could be done. Officials and security stormed the ring and eventually got Luger to drop DBS out of the Rack, but the damage had already been done. Luger spit on DBS and told him that he shouldn’t have messed with a superstar like himself.
WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES THE STEINER BROTHERS© VS. THE DIAMOND MINE (W/ DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE):
All four men are known for their powerful offense and that’s the game plan that both teams used. Diamond Dallas Page, despite his losing effort to Jushin Liger earlier tonight, did accompany his Diamond Mine to the ring. He may not be able to wrestle for the next sixty days, but it won’t stop Page from his managerial duties. Don Muraco and the Diamond Studd are definitely a formidable duo, but the Steiner Brothers have a lot more experience as a team. It showed tonight as both Rick and Scott were constantly tagging in and out and making sure to save the other if they got in trouble. Muraco and the Studd were able to cut the ring in two as they worked on Rick later on in the match, but Rick can take a beating and still get up. That’s what happened here as it looked like the Studd and Muraco would be well on their way to victory, but Rick just kept fighting back. Rick Steiner and Muraco got in to a battle of clotheslines which was won by Rick and led to the hot tag. Page did get himself in the match later on when he tripped Scott as he bounced off the ropes. Scott Steiner wasn’t fazed, however, as he pulled Page up onto the ring apron and nailed him with a clubbing right hand. At the end, though, it was the Diamond Studd setting up Scott for the Diamond Death Drop, but Scott reversing it into the Frankensteiner at the last second! The Diamond Studd was out, and Rick clobbered Muraco with another Steinerline as he tried to enter the ring. Scott hooked the leg as Page tried to get into the ring, but he was too late as the Steiner Brothers retained their World Tag Team Titles!
The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner) defeated The Diamond Mine (Diamond Studd and Don Muraco) when S. Steiner pinned Studd with the Frankensteiner in 0:09:32. Rating: ** 1/2 (The Steiner Brothers retained the WCW World Tag Team Titles.)
The comments from Sting and Cactus Jack from the Main Event aired before the big World Heavyweight Title match.
Cactus Jack made his way down the aisle with his partner in crime, Jorge Gonzalez. Cactus was still using the cane, but broke it across his knee after entering the ring. Cactus was still limping rather badly, but it looked like he was trying to prove a point that he didn’t really need the cane. The crowd nearly blew the roof off of the arena when Sting’s music hit. Sting sprinted down the aisle with his WCW Title on his shoulder. He tossed it to the time keeper as he slid into the ring and went straight for Cactus as the bell rang.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE STING© VS. CACTUS JACK (W/ JORGE GONZALEZ):
Sting took it right to Cactus Jack from the minute the bell rang. In fact, it looked like Sting might end things very quickly when he went for the Stinger’s Splash within the first three minutes, but Jorge Gonzalez was there to push Cactus out of the corner from the outside. Referee Nick Patrick had seen enough at that point, but instead of disqualifying Cactus he instead ejected Gonzalez from ringside! This match was too important for Gonzalez to become a major factor. The bout continued on with Cactus Jack capitalizing on the confusion to take control of the match despite his injured leg. Cactus favored his leg throughout the match, so instead of the high impact offense we are use to, Cactus stuck with his straight forward brawling. Sting looked a little punch drunk throughout the match and even during his brief flurries of offense as Cactus never let up. Sting did try to focus in on the leg as much as possible, but Cactus was able to suck up the pain and keep going. Cactus finally did make a mistake when he went to the top rope but due to his bad leg it took him too long. Sting slammed him off and the impact sent Cactus back to his feet but into the corner. Sting had him in perfect position to nail three consecutive Stinger Splashes! Cactus crumpled to the mat and Sting turned him over in the Scorpion Deathlock! Cactus squealed out in pain as Sting wrenched back. Somehow Cactus was able to counter the hold as he grabbed a hold of Sting’s ankle. Cactus and Sting went back and forth again until Sting kicked the leg right out from under Cactus. Sting followed that up by dragging him to the corner and repeatedly ramming Cactus’s leg in to the ringpost! Cactus hollered out in pain and for the rest of the match Cactus did not put any more pressure on his leg. Cactus tried one last bit of offense when he kicked Sting in the groin while the ref’s back was turned. Cactus hit his Double Arm DDT, but somehow Sting kicked out in two. Cactus tried once again to go to the top, but once again the time it took him to get up there caused him to miss a diving elbowdrop. Sting quickly recovered and hooked Cactus back in to the Scorpion Deathlock. Cactus almost seemed to grin as Sting applied even more pressure. The referee pleaded with Cactus to give it up but he just continued to scream in pain. Eventually Cactus’ eyes grew glossy and his body became limp. Referee Nick Patrick called for the bell as Sting pulled back even further.
Sting defeated Cactus Jack when Cactus Jack passed out in the Scorpion Deathlock in 0:14:46. Cactus Jack tore his right achilles tendon. He will be out for approximately 7 cards. Rating: *** (Sting retained the WCW World Heavyweight Title.)
It took some convincing by Nick Patrick but Sting eventually released the hold. The cameras picked up Patrick saying that he had heard something snap. Sting, meanwhile, celebrated on the turnbuckles with the WCW Title while the crowd went crazy! Jorge Gonzalez came out after the bell to help carry the unconscious Cactus Jack to the back. Cactus did let out one last “Bang, bang!” as he woke up while going through the curtain to the back.
Sting had done it! He had survived Cactus Jack’s brutal attacks leading up to Wrestle War and walked out still in possession of the WCW Title here tonight! Not to mention the damage he may have caused Cactus might have put him on the shelf for quite some time. Sting will not have to look over his shoulder anytime soon when it comes to Cactus Jack.
Comments aired from backstage where Dick Slater promised to lay a beating on Mike Droese. Col. Parker told Droese that he made the biggest mistake of his young career when he turned him down. Parker said that he had given Slater the order to put Droese down for good.
Clips aired from Mike Droese training again with the likes of Sting, Dustin Rhodes, and Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat commented that Mike Droese had picked up the sport as fast as anybody he had ever seen and thought he definitely would be able to hold his own with the veteran, Dick Slater.
“DIRTY” DICK SLATER (W/ COL. ROBERT PARKER) VS. MIKE DROESE:
Dick Slater had the experience advantage for this bout and used it to the utmost. Every time Col. Parker was able to distract the referee Slater would choke Droese on the top rope or rake the eyes. Droese seemed like he didn’t really know how to fight back against these underhanded tactics, but he did show quite a bit of heart when he refused to just take the beating. Droese’s retaliation ended up mostly being just right and left hooks, but at 6’6 and right around 300 pounds those punches pack a wallop. When Col. Parker saw his man get in trouble, he decided to intervene himself into the match. Droese caught Parker coming in to the ring, however, and dropped him with an atomic drop to send the crowd in to a frenzy. Parker exited the ring just as Slater caught Droese from behind with a knee to the lower back. Slater went right back to work on Droese, hitting him with a swinging neckbreaker. It looked like he was going to follow that up with a running kneelift, but Droese caught him coming off the ropes and hit the Higher Authority (tilt-a-whirl slam)! With Col. Parker trying to regroup himself on the outside, there was no way Slater was getting out of that.
Mike Droese pinned Dick Slater with the Higher Authority in 0:06:13. Rating: **
Mike Droese got his hand raised and got out of dodge as Col. Parker entered the ring in a huff. Parker could be heard yelling out that he was going to get Droese, one way or another. Slater, meanwhile, tried to shake the cobwebs loose from the pounding he took in the match. This definitely was a huge upset, and a big step forward in Mike Droese’s career.
Paul E. Dangerously led his team down to the double cage for the start of the match. All of the Dangerous Alliance looked very focused and ready for action. The same can be said for Nikita Koloff and his team as they walked down the aisle. Dustin Rhodes gave the cage a shake or two to see the sturdiness of it. The Patriot looked a little nervous as he hopped from one foot to the other.
WAR GAMES RICKY “THE DRAGON” STEAMBOAT, BARRY WINDHAM, “THE NATURAL” DUSTIN RHODES, AND THE PATRIOT (W/ “THE RUSSIAN NIGHTMARE” NIKITA KOLOFF) VS. “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE, “BEAUTIFUL” BOBBY EATON, “THE ENFORCER” ARN ANDERSON, AND “THE CRUNCHER” LARRY ZBYSZKO (W/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY):
There was a minor argument on the fan favorite side about who would be entering War Games first. Meanwhile, Larry Zbyszko was chosen by Paul E. Dangerously as the first member of the Dangerous Alliance to enter. That was all the Patriot needed to see as he shoved Dustin Rhodes out of the way and entered the double cage to start the match. The Patriot obviously wanted to get his hands on the “Cruncher” after the derogatory comments issued about him by Zbyszko. The Patriot was a house of fire early on much to the crowd’s delight. Zbyszko was tossed into the cage several times, but was lucky to avoid being busted open. The Patriot then went on a rampage with several diving shouldersblocks followed by the Patriot Missile off the top rope! Zbyszko grabbed a hold of the Patriot to try and slow the pace as the coin was tossed between Koloff and Dangerously. It quickly became clear that the Dangerous Alliance had won the toss when Arn Anderson entered the cage. On the outside it was clear that Barry Windham was not happy that the Patriot had decided to enter first, but Nikita Koloff tried to keep him calm.
Anderson immediately cut off the offense of the Patriot with a spinebuster. The former World Tag Team Champions really went to work on the Patriot as they took turns slamming him into the mat. Anderson went one step further as he raked the Patriot’s face across the cage. Within seconds the Patriot’s mask had been torn and blood started to seep out of the tear. Luckily it was now time for Dustin Rhodes to enter the ring. Rhodes came in extremely pumped up as he leveled both Zbyszko and Anderson with flying clotheslines. A few flip, flop, and fly elbows followed and then Rhodes sent Anderson hurling in to the cage busting Anderson wide open! Zbyszko escaped the first ring to join ring two and go after the Patriot once again. The Patriot still hadn’t recovered from earlier and Zbyszko capitalized by hitting his Brain Buster perfectly. This knocked the Patriot loopy as he tried to get back to his feet but instead fell to the mat face first. Zbyszko started to tear at the Patriot’s gash again as Bobby Eaton entered the ring.
Bobby Eaton made a detour to give the Patriot a few stomps while Zbyszko had him locked in a figure four leglock. From there Eaton went to ring one to end Rhodes’ beating of Anderson. Anderson took a second to recuperate while Eaton dropped Rhodes with a swinging neckbreaker. Eaton tossed Rhodes in to the cage a couple of times. Back in ring two, Zbyszko continued to torment the Patriot by once again raking the TV Champion’s face across the cage. The Patriot’s mask continued to be torn to shreds and also was turning a grotesque pink color from the mixture of white and the Patriot’s blood. In ring one Rhodes joined Anderson and the Patriot in the busted open category as Arn hurled him into the cage. At that moment Ricky Steamboat jumped into the cage to pull Bobby Eaton away from Rhodes. Several vicious chops knocked Eaton to the mat and he also was able to drop Anderson with a big clothesline. Steamboat quickly went to ring two and pulled Zbyszko off of the Patriot and nailed him with several chops to send him back into the corner. Steamboat was in such a rush to save the Patriot, however, that he left Rhodes once again to be double teamed. Anderson and Eaton went right back to work, this time focusing in on the legs of Rhodes. They took turns dropping knees across his upper thigh, and Anderson at one point went a little higher than that when he dropped a leg right through Rhodes’ legs. Eaton pounded away at the open wound of Rhodes while back in ring two Steamboat used the cage to pull himself up and nail Zbyszko with a dropkick. The Patriot slowly crawled back in to ring number one as the final member of the Dangerous Alliance, “Ravishing” Rick Rude entered the match.
Rude went caught the Patriot coming through the ropes and dropped him with the Rude Awakening! The Patriot was completely out of it at this point as Rude went to ring two and pulled Steamboat off of Zbyszko. Rude then reached deep in to his tights and came out with what appeared to be a pair of brass knuckles! Steamboat blocked the first punch by Rude, however, and blasted him with several chops to the chest. Zbyszko was able to get back up and chop blocked Steamboat. Rude and Zbyszko started to stomp away at the fallen Steamboat. Anderson tried to finish Rhodes off as he DDT’ed him in to the mat while Eaton dropped several legs across the back of the Patriot’s neck. Nikita Koloff was going crazy on the outside as it looked like he wanted to get in to the ring as well. Barry Windham was also storming around the ring just waiting for his chance to get in there. Finally the door was unlocked allowing Windham to enter the ring! THE MATCH BEYOND HAD BEGUN! Now when any man submits or surrenders the match will be over.
Barry Windham tore right into Anderson and Eaton as he entered ring one. Windham sent both men to the mat with a pair of double clotheslines. Anderson got back to his feet, but was sent right back in to the cage causing his cut to open wider. Anderson was really hurting as it looked like he was having trouble seeing through his crimson mask. Anderson tried a few wild swings before being dropped by a big inverted atomic drop/clothesline combo by Windham. This allowed Dustin to get back to his feet and drop Eaton with a big elbow. Windham then made his way into ring two where he pulled Rude off of Steamboat. Windham leveled him with lefts and right while the Patriot tried to fend off Zbyszko. Steamboat headed to ring one where he pounded away on Eaton with overhanded chops.
Things broke down to basically Zbyszko pounding on the Patriot (including another Brain Buster), Windham and Rude exchanging fists, Steamboat dominating Eaton with arm drags and really going after his arm, and Rhodes and Anderson taking turns raking each other against the cage. Rude saw what was going on in the other ring and tossed his brass knuckles to Eaton. Eaton grabbed them and sucker punched Steamboat with them which knocked him silly. Zbyszko took an opening on the Patriot to lock on what looked like a modified sleeperhold. To be honest, it was basically a pure choke hold. The Patriot was holding on for all he could, but Rude kept cutting Windham off when he was trying to make the save. One of those times Rude nailed Windham with a kneelift so hard that Barry flied over the ropes and back into ring one. Rude saw a chance at ending things as Zbyszko continued to hold the Patriot in his choke. Rude grabbed the Patriot’s legs and locked him in a figure-four leglock as well! The Patriot was suffering from immense pain from both ends of his body while Nikita Koloff shouted at him to hold on from ringside. Back in ring one Eaton used the knuckles one more time on Steamboat. Windham tried to get to his feet but Eaton blasted him with the knuckles! Eaton turned Rhodes around and got him too! Anderson was really hurting as he made another wild swing with his left and almost hit Bobby Eaton! Anderson tried to wipe the blood out of his eyes and saw Eaton handing him the brass knuckles. Anderson got a glint in his eye as Eaton picked Windham up and held his arms to give a clear shot to Anderson. Anderson wound up, but Windham ducked at the last second! Eaton got nailed with the brass knuckles! Anderson didn’t even seem to know he had hit the wrong man as he continued to try and wipe the blood out of his eyes. Windham, meanwhile, turned around and immediately locked in the Iron Claw on Eaton!!! Eaton screamed out in pain which made Anderson realize what had happened. Anderson went to make the save, but Rhodes caught him with the Bulldog! Steamboat got to his feet and grabbed Anderson in an armbar while Rhodes slowly tried to make his way to ring two. Zbyszko and Rude still had the Patriot in their painful combination of moves and it looked like it would be any second that the Patriot would have to give it up or risk permanent injury. Rude started to use the ropes for extra leverage on his figure-four leglock and finally the bell rang.
War Games No-Countout-No-DQ-Match: Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and The Patriot defeated The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton, Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude) when B. Windham made B. Eaton submit to a Iron Claw in 0:25:22. Rating: *** 1/2
IT WASN’T THE PATRIOT THAT GAVE IT UP!!! IT WAS EATON! Bobby Eaton couldn’t continue due to the Iron Claw! Rhodes got over to ring two and dropped an elbow on Rude to break up the figure-four. Zbyszko thought he had won the match for his team by choking out the Patriot, but instead he heard the announcer say that Nikita Koloff’s team had won the match! Zbyszko looked like he was in shock, but then continued to put the boots to the Patriot. Nikita Koloff had seen enough as he entered the ring once the referees had unlocked the cage. Anderson and Eaton were both slowly getting to their feet but Koloff sent them both back down with a double Russian Sickle! Koloff then stormed in to ring two where Rude quickly escaped, but Zbyszko was a bit too late and he ate a Russian Sickle as well. Rude exited the cage and Dangerously tried to stop him. Rude was having none of it though as he pushed Dangerously to the side, grabbed his US Title and rushed to the back.
Paul E. Dangerously looked like he was about in tears as Koloff collected his men and raised their arms in victory. The Patriot could not stand without the help of Steamboat and Rhodes was still dripping blood on the mat, but they had done what they had come out to do.
Arn Anderson was laying in his own blood, Bobby Eaton was knocked unconscious from the punishment he had taken, and Larry Zbyszko seemed beside himself as he sat alone in ring two. And Rick Rude, well, he was just gone.
The fans continued to cheer as Jim Ross said that the match he had just witnessed was so much more than he ever could have expected. Schiavone said the goodbyes and Ross told everybody to tune in to Saturday Night. The show came to a close with the Patriot being helped out of the ring by Nikita Koloff and Ricky Steamboat while Windham held the ropes open for a bloody Dustin Rhodes.
Card rating: ***
WCW Hotline:
What a night of action we had here at Wrestle War!
Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, and the Patriot somehow came out on top against the Dangerous Alliance in War Games. The Patriot might have made an unwise decision in entering the ring first, but he survived it all including a vicious combined attack by Larry Zbyszko and Rick Rude. Barry Windham came through for his team when he forced “Beautiful” Bobby to submit to the Iron Claw. After the show, Eaton was on a rampage blaming Arn Anderson for the loss. Anderson didn’t seem too happy with that, but he was still recovering from the vast amount of blood he lost in the match. Paul E. Dangerously wasn’t there to try and calm the two down as he was trying to contact Rude, but he couldn’t find the US Champion anywhere.
Still, you have to give it to Nikita Koloff and his team. The Patriot was able to hang on just long enough despite Windham’s concern that he might need help in a match of this magnitude. Dustin Rhodes also need eight stitches from the cut he suffered during War Games. The Patriot and Rhodes both were at the hospital at the time of this report, but Steamboat, Windham, and Koloff all seemed very satisfied with what they had accomplished.
Sting is still the WCW Champion despite being on the receiving end of quite a bit of offense from Cactus Jack. Once Sting locked in the Scorpion Deathlock it was a sure thing that the match was going to be over, but nobody could have expected Cactus Jack to hang on as long as he did. Because of the time that he was locked in the hold Cactus appears to have a suffered a pretty severe injury to his right leg. In fact, preliminary reports show that he might have torn his right Achilles tendon. If that is what happened, Cactus Jack will be out of action for at least a few months it would seem. Jorge Gonzalez was inconsolable after he was told of this news.
The Steiner Brothers are still World Tag Team Champions, but they definitely knew they had been in a fight by the end of the match. Don Muraco and the Diamond Studd were pretty close to numerous times to walking out with the gold, but the Steiners will now move on to other challengers.
Dusty Rhodes did his best, but Big Van Vader was just too much for him. You have to give Rhodes some credit for standing toe to toe with the Mastadon, but Vader picked up the win. Now that Vader has handled some of Harley Race’s business, what’s next for the man from the Rocky Mountains?
Brian Pillman’s new attitude may not be winning him any fans, but it sure is effective. Because of his cheating ways we have new United States Tag Team Champs. The Z-Man didn’t appear to notice what “Flyin’” Brian had done to win the straps, and he definitely wasn’t complaining when they handed him his share of the gold. The Freebirds are furious, but maybe it was time for them to be on the receiving end of a loss like this.
Diamond Dallas Page will not be wrestling for the next 60 days. Jushin Liger made sure of that by pinning him here tonight. DDP will still hold onto his managerial license, but he will not be able to enter the ring until at least July. Jushin Liger has finally ended his feud with DDP, and now he can try to focus on working his way up the ladder of WCW.
Lex Luger was in attendance for Wrestle War as he promised, and he was not happy with what the British Bulldog had to say about him. Davey Boy wanted to face Luger in a match, but once Luger declined, DBS called him a coward and a has been. This infuriated Luger who sneak attacked the Bulldog. Luger left DBS laying, but reports are that Executive VP Kip Allen Frey has signed the British Bulldog to a lengthy contract. This will not be the last time Luger sees Davey Boy Smith.
Mike Droese picked up a big win in just his second match in a WCW ring. He has definitely impressed the higher ups in WCW and it looks like we may be watching the start of a great career.
Be sure to tune in to Saturday Night for the fallout of Wrestle War!

Sorry for not replying sooner Josh, but here's my comments to a terrific PPV! - And we're off! - Page claiming he's the true PATRIOT? Easter Egg for future feud with Patriot? Page loses as predicted, but he can still manage the Diamond Mine though. - Tom "hippy" Zenk thinks they can all be friends, huh? Well, not with these three.. Pillmann and Z-Man take the belts, but Zenk'll probably not like the way it went down. - Ouch! Vader got the win, but Rhodes made a good effort. Wonder how his ribs are doing, though. - Yay to Luger being involved in a program again, and double yay for bringing inn Davey Boy. - Steiner retains as they should.. I don't dislike the Diamond Mine as much as Ryan, but I must admit that this was actually the match I was looking the least forward too. - How timely that Cactus injured himself in the Deathlock? My guess is that he was really injured earlier this month, but that you "postponed" the injury until after Wrestling War, correct? - A little odd to have Slater and Droese after the world title match, but I guess the crowd needs to go to the bathroom before the War Games match - I love Colonel Parker, in a totally platonic way, of course. He and his cronies are just the type of guys the fans love to hate, even though they may never rise up from midcard status - More trouble brewing in camp Koloff, as the Patriot overestimates himself. Heels win coin toss - always important! oooH! The match beyond is on, this is exciting! I still think Camp Koloff'll win though. Eaton quits! Wow, what a match, what a write up! Really enjoyed that one. Great PPV, you've really outdone yourself this time

I'm a Scott Hall mark through and through, and while I wouldn't have put the titles on them here you did a good job building them up into believable contenders.

Rey: - Yeah, I'm happy Luger is back involved. I like where his character is going at this point. I'm not a huge Luger fan so I'm kind of surprised I actually like writing him. - Steiners-Diamond Mine was not my favorite either. It probably showed in my writing. - You are very observant. It actually happened back a couple of weeks ago in his match with Richard Morton on Saturday Night. It look back at at the write-up that was the first time Sting actually locked him in the Scorpion Deathlock and from there he was using the cane. I didn't feel it was overly cheating since I didn't have him wrestle again until Wrestle War and the match ended up being mostly mat based. He's now out for the foreseeable future which kind of sucks. - I kind of liked throwing Droese/Slater in between the two main events as I know I wouldn't have wanted to watch them back to back without a break. Jeff: - Thanks for that, Jeff! Glad to see somebody was okay with the Diamond Mine. Thanks for the comments, guys. Makes it fun to write. -

I really enjoyed the PPV. Not a lot in terms of throwaway which was good, and some feuds ended while others began.
Was fully expecting a Nikita turn. Your ending was great, and really put The Patriot over. He looks like he's going to be a big star for some time to come.
Sting wins a good match, and Cactus is hurt for awhile. I expect him to come back crazier than ever.
The story of Vader/Dusty was a bit predictable, but really the only story you COULD do. Didn't take away from the drama of it, and keeps Vader looking like the monster he is. He should be the next opponent for Sting.
Really like the tension brewing with Pillman & Z-Man. I generally hate secondary tag team titles, so this at least gives a good story for those belts.
Davey Boy Smith immediately into a big program with Luger is much win. The matches probably wouldn't be pretty, but Luger is a star here, and it's a good way to make the Bulldog look legit from the word go.

The Patriot has been pretty fun to write. He definitely has potential to climb higher up the ladder than just the TV Title, but it depends on his next few angles and if they get over (with me).
I ran into a problem where I couldn't let Vader look weak, but also had to give Dusty his just due. Vader is up there for a title shot...no guarantees.
Pillman/Zenk is actually kind of a fun angle that I just threw in as something to do. The more I write it, however, the more I'm liking it.
I was a big fan of DBS's first WCW run. They never did use him to his full extent, IMO. I'm hoping to correct that. But yeah, DBS/Luger might be channel changing quality in their matches.
Thanks for the comments, Ryan!
