Boxer Manny Pacquiao filed a lawsuit Wednesday in federal court in Las Vegas, alleging that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father defamed him with their comments saying the Filipino star has used performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids. Pacquiao named the Mayweathers and his promoters Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer as defendants.
In the suit, Pacquiao says the Mayweathers' claims that Pacquiao used performance-enhancing drugs are false and that these claims are an attempt to destroy his professional reputation. "I can't explain why these people are making these recklessly false statements," said Pacquiao's attorney Daniel Petrocelli. Pacquiao is asking for damages in excess of $75,000, plus punitive damages.
Pacquiao and Mayweather were expected to meet in a mega-fight March 13, but negotiations have stalled over demands by Mayweather for the fighters to have Olympic-standard blood testing. Asked whether the lawsuit would cause the crumbling negotiations to be entirely scrapped, Petrocelli said, "This is completely independent of whether or not the fight gets made."
Schaefer told the Associated Press that the suit was expected because Pacquiao had been threatening to file one, but that talks continue over a possible Pacquaio-Mayweather fight. "Hopefully, we will know something in the next couple of days," Schaefer said.
IMO: I think Floyd is scared of Manny beating him & will do anything to put off the fight.

I agree ... Floyd doesn't want this fight because he knows very well that Pacquiao is likely to put him on his ass ...

Of course, there's a REALLY easy way to settle all this drug BS:
Do the Olympic style drug testing that started the whole mess, and prove neither guy is doping :-P
(Personally, I think this is all a publicity stunt by both sides, and an excuse to move the fight to another weekend, so that PPV buys aren't shared with another big PPV)

The suit cites various interviews done by the defendants in which they intimated that Pacquiao's strength and power did not all come naturally. Among the interviews cited was an October radio interview in which Mayweather Jr. allegedly said Pacquiao's physique was different "cause we know the Philippines got the best enhancing drugs."
Pacquiao is not against the blood testing but wants a definite date that the testing would stop since he feels that giving blood may weaken him. I know that it would be a minimal amount for testing but it is a psychological thing that could effect his fighting.

Why would you be afraid to be drug tested unless you're doing drugs?

I don't really see how anyone can take Pacquiao's side in this one, even if Mayweather is a tool. Why should a superstition make it okay for him to decline a drug test?

That's been my take on it.
If it "weakens" the fight ability of one guy, it surely does the same for the other, no?
Anyway, as I said: I think it's a publicity stunt to boost interest (not that it needs more) on top of an excuse to change the PPV date.

How silly.
Take the damn drug test, prove you're not roiding, get on with the fight.
If Pacquiao wants to sue the Mayweathers and Golden Boy, by all means, do so BUT he should have to take a drug test. Both sides should have to take it for a fight regardless.
