THUNDER (July 5, 2000)
Thunder opens with Konnan and Billy Kidman coming to the ring for the opening match of the night. The commentators make mention that tonight’s main event will be a 10 man Battle Royal to determine who faces Elix Skipper for the TV Title at Bash at the Beach.
KONNAN VS. BILLY KIDMAN
Konnan has been developing quite a mean streak the past few months. He had a nice match with Kidman where the momentum kept swinging back and fourth. Kidman had Konnan down and went for the 450 splash but Konnan rolled out of the way and Kidman crashed to the mat. Konnan locked in the Tequilla Sunrise and got the submission.
Konnan made Billy Kidman submit to the Tequila Sunrise in 0:09:53.
Rating: *** 3/4
As been his style lately, Konnan refused to let go of the hold. Finally Lance Storm ran down and Konnan ran off. Storm got on the mic and called out Konnan. He said since Konnan likes to hurt people and likes to hear people submit, why don’t they have a submission match at Bash at the Beach. Konnan said he got it.
After a break, the Natural Born Trillers came out. Sanders spoke to Elix Skipper telling him not to worry, either he or Chuck Palumbo will win this battle royal tonight and Skipper will be dealt with on Sunday. He wanted to speak to Lash LeRoux and Johnny the Bull, this team now calling themselves, the Cajun Mafia. Last week they stuck their noses where they didn’t belong and now they’re going to have to pay. You mess with the Natural Born Thrillers and you will be S.. O.. L.
REY MISTERIO JR. VS. CHRIS KANYON
This match barely got started before Big Vito ran in and attacked Rey. He didn’t want to wait till Sunday to make an example out of him. He took advantage his sneak attack and decimated Rey.
Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Chris Kanyon by disqualification in 0:01:59.
Rating: ***
BUFF BAGWELL VS. MIKE AWESOME
In the past, Buff has always been more flash then substance. But ever since he got kicked out of the New Blood, he’s developed an attitude to go with his swagger and it’s worked out for the better.
Mike Awesome set up a table outside early in the match and tried to powerbomb Bagwell through it but Bagwell was able to fight it off. The table came back into play as Bagwell knocked Awesome outside with a clothesline, then rolled him onto the table. Bagwell then climbed to the top rope and splashed down through Awesome and the table. Bagwell rolled into the ring and Awesome got counted out.
Buff Bagwell defeated Mike Awesome by countout in 0:12:54.
Mike Awesome suffered an elbow injury. He will be out for approximately 1 card.
Rating: **
This drew out Shawn Stasiak and the Wall, Awesome’s two partners on Sunday and they tried to jump Bagwell. Bagwell was able to fight them off for a minute before going down, but his own partners, The Cat and Terry Funk ran down to chase away the New Blood.
Meanwhile, in the lockerroom, video is shown of Mark Jindrak and Sean O'Haire attacking the Cajun Mafia. They were just beating both men down and tossing them into walls before security broke them up finally.
TV TITLE TOP CONTENDERS MATCH
10-MAN BATTLE ROYAL
Elix Skipper joined the boys on commentary as the match will determine who he would face at Bash at the Beach.
Mike Sanders promised either he or Chuck Palumbo from the Natural Born Thrillers would win the match. I don’t think he counted on Palumbo eliminating him. Granted it seemed to be an accident. Sanders held Too Cold Scorpio as Palumbo tried to run at him with a lariat. But Scorpio moved and Palumbo knocked Sanders over the top rope to the floor. Sanders didn’t look pleased, but Palumbo tried pleading it was an accident.
Palumbo would later get eliminated by Shawn Stasiak leaving Stasiak and Scorpio as the final two. In the end it was Scorpio tossing out Stasiak getting the win and the title shot.
After it was over, Skipper jumped in the ring and got face-to-face with Scorpio. The man who was his partner the past two weeks will now be a challenger for his TV Title. Skipper shook Scorpio’s hand and wished him the best of luck. Scorpio returned the favor. A great show of mutual respect as we end the show.
