2/15/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 1/28/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
FROM THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT JACK TUNNEY
GCW Superstars went on the air with a video from President Jack Tunney. Tunney addressed the recent campaign by Rick Martel to get a World Title shot against King Kong Bundy by overturning the previous ruling that Martel could never wrestle for the top prize in our sport again. Tunney mentioned the thousands of letters and phone calls the GCW offices have gotten in regards to this matter. Tunney said that this week he will be meeting with the Championship Committee, as well as the lawyers of Mr. Martel and Mr. Bundy. He promised the fans of GCW that he would make an official decision on the matter next week on Superstars.
Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were on hand to open the show, and Niemiller was already livid that Jack Tunney would even consider allowing Rick Martel wrestle King Kong Bundy for the World Title. Monsoon countered that with what Bundy has been trying to get away with since becoming World champion, he's lucky that he hasn't been stripped of the title! Either way, we would know for sure next week. But on today's show, a lot of fantastic wrestling is lined up as we will see a heated rivalry continue with Corporal Kirchner taking on the Foreign Legion's Nikolai Volkoff! The impressive newcomer The Barbarian will compete, as will Barry Windham! And we get ourselves an Intercontinental Title match as Ted DiBiase defends the title against the man who answered his open challenge, Bad News Brown! Now, to Howard Finkel for our first match of the day.
MATCH #1 The Rock 'N Roll Express vs. Bob Bradley/Terry Gibbs
The Rock 'N Roll Express continue to fire on all cylinders as they pick up the win to kick off Superstars. With Robert Gibson's big match against Sgt. Slaughter coming up at Saturday Night Slam Masters, the Express could use all of the momentum they can get.
The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated Bob Bradley and Terry Gibbs when R. Gibson pinned Gibbs after a German suplex in 0:03:07. Rating: 1/2*
MATCH #2 The Barbarian vs. Joe Mirto
The Barbarian proved during this match that his debut definitely wasn't a fluke. This guy is a beast, plain and simple. A quick and decisive victory. During the match, Monsoon & Niemiller announced that The Barbarian would be facing Chavo Guerrero at Saturday Night Slam Masters. Niemiller remarked that with how The Barbarian has looked, that may be Chavo Guerrero's last match ever.
The Barbarian pinned Joe Mirto with the Diving Headbutt in 0:01:58. Rating: -1/2*
MATCH #3 Corporal Kirchner vs. Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Freddie Blassie)
Corporal Kirchner has battled with the Foreign Legion since he came to GCW, and that fight continued on Superstars. Kirchner has had a lot of success so far, but it hasn't been easy as we saw here. Kirchner was doing well which is when Freddie Blassie jumped up on the apron to distract Danny Davis. THE IRON SHEIK & SHIRO KOSHINAKA were quickly to ringside during this distraction. Koshinaka jumped in the ring to take a swing at Kirchner, but Kirchner ducked and hit an atomic drop which sent the Japanese Assassin over the top. In dispatching of Koshinaka, Kirchner didn't see Iron Sheik throw a fire extinguisher into Volkoff. Volkoff clocked Kirchner and disposed of the evidence, allowing Volkoff to get the cheap 1-2-3.
Nikolai Volkoff pinned Corporal Kirchner after hitting him with a fire extinguisher in 0:04:10. Rating: 3/4* [Shiro Koshinaka and The Iron Sheik interfered against Corporal Kirchner.]
Blassie directed his men to lay the boots to Kirchner, but JUNKYARD DOG & KOKO B. WARE rushed to the ring to prevent that from happening. It looks like we're near all out war between these six men.
MATCH #4 Barry Windham vs. Tony Stetson
An insert promo from Barry Windham along with Wahoo McDaniel aired where they discussed their Slam Masters match against Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson. Windham said that Wahoo was there for his teammates and he back at War Games, so he was going to be there for Wahoo. Wahoo said that Blanchard, Anderson, and the whole Heenan Family have been running wild, and they're going to do their part to tame them. Windham added that after they beat Blanchard & Anderson, he just might go after the Television Title.
Barry Windham pinned Tony Stetson with the Superplex in 0:02:45. Rating: **
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
It is going to be a busy few weeks in GCW, and "Mean" Gene Okerlund was here to tell us all about it on the Live Event Report! First on the list, just two weeks away, it will be Saturday Night Slam Masters from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ! As we learned earlier, the impressive newcomer, The Barbarian, will be in action to take on former Intercontinental champion Chavo Guerrero. We do know we'll have Wahoo McDaniel teaming with Barry Windham to take on Television champion Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson. And the big main event, Robert Gibson of the Rock 'N Roll Express goes for revenge against the man who put him on the shelf and cost Ricky Morton & he their chance to regain the World Tag Team Titles, Sgt. Slaughter! Don't forget the special stipulation where if Gibson manages to win, the Rock 'N Roll Express will meet the Unholy Alliance for the gold at Super Cade II! High stakes, that's for sure.
Okerlund added that is, of course, the Unholy Alliance are still the champs come Super Cade II as on our second big show in the coming weeks, from the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, ON, CA, Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen are set to defend against the Canadian natives, the Rougeau Brothers! The Rougeaus are known for being tourists in a strange land, but this time they will be right at home. But will the homefield advantage be enough to help them overcome the odds to overthrow the dominant tag team champs? The other match we know for this show is Koko B. Ware taking on The Barbarian. Okerlund also added that Chavo Guerrero vs. Adrian Adonis has been signed as well.
And then the big one, Super Cade II, from the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Tommy Lasorda will be there. Elvira will be there. Ray Charles will be there. And Andre the Giant returns to take on Big John Studd! Okerlund said his backstage sources have given him word that next week on Superstars, he be will be able to announce more matches for the biggest wrestling show in history!
MATCH #5 Intercontinental Title Match Ted DiBiase (c) vs. Bad News Brown
You have to hand it to Ted DiBiase. Even after suffering a minor tear to his groin back in Boston last month, DiBiase wanted to defend the Intercontinental Title against anyone who wanted the shot. The man who wanted the shot is the man with the meanest attitude in all of GCW, Bad News Brown. Brown is going to come straight at you when you're healthy, so imagine what he's going to be like if he knows you have an injury. DiBiase is not one to make excuses though. DiBiase might not have the street upbringing that Brown does, but remember that DiBiase's father was "Iron" Mike DiBiase, so toughness runs in the family. Still, DiBiase wanted to make this a wrestling match, but it didn't take long before this turned into a fight. Referee Dick Kroll did his best to maintain order, but it became obvious this one was not going to stay in the ring. Once it spilled to the floor, both men ignored the count as fighting each other became more important.
Bad News Brown and Ted DiBiase battled to a double countout in 0:05:48. Rating: ** (Ted DiBiase retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)
Even after the bell, the brawl raged on as officials rushed out to break it up. Easier said than done, as DiBiase & Brown got ahold of each other two more times before some wrestlers spilled out of the locker room to pull them apart. I have a good feeling this is not the last we've seen out of these two.
Be sure to join us next week for a monumental episode of Superstars! Two history making events will take place. First, President Jack Tunney will give his final decision in the Rick Martel case, and free on television, we will see a rare World Title match as King Kong Bundy defends against Dusty Rhodes! Set your VCRs to record, because you will want to watch this one again! So long, everybody!

The Martel storyline is built so nicely that I cannot even fathom any other outcome than him winning the World Title at some point.
Looking forward to your big shows!

If Martel gets another shot at Bundy he’ll almost have to win it, right? Or die trying. The second one seems most likely.
The Gibson/Slaughter match seems so lopsided on paper but it’s ripe for an upset, and I’ll call it that because Gibson isn’t what we would call the accomplished singles competitor that Slaughter is.
Chavo can have a home in WWA if Barbarian runs him out of GCW. Unless he rips his head off. Then I really have no use for him.
I’ve never thought about the fact that you have a Cpl. and a Sgt. on your roster. Likely because you don’t play up Slaughter’s default gimmick. But there’s something there if Kirschner tickles your fancy enough once his “USA vs. everyone non-USA” feuds dry up. Fire extinguisher for win! There’s a “heat” joke to be made somewhere in there but I’m not the comedian.
Windham’s promo is cut and dry but I do have to wonder, is it so straight forward just because you’re writing to the point, so clearly obvious that he’s NOT going to have Wahoo’s back?? Hmmmm. Pure speculation on my part.
I’m digging your upcoming cards. No wonder you’ve been a bit more inspired. Legit looking forward to the Super Cade announcements.
Great to see we’ll get a Dibiase/Brown rivalry and this isn’t just a one-off. ’86 babyface Dibiase gets over HUGE by getting his ass kicked and Brown is a perfect opponent for him right now. I don’t know if this makes it to Super Cade but I wouldn’t complain if it did.

2/22/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 1/28/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
JACK TUNNEY MAKES HIS DECISION ON THE RICK MARTEL CASE
The show opened with another video from the office of President Jack Tunney. Tunney said after meeting with the Championship Committee, analyzing the actions of King Kong Bundy and the Heenan Family over the past several months, and factoring in the influx of letters and phone calls received on his behalf, Tunney was officially reinstating Rick Martel's ability to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Title. Tunney announced that it will be King Kong Bundy vs. Rick Martel for the World Title at Super Cade II, with one condition. After meeting with the lawyers of Bobby Heenan, an agreement has been made. The match will take place at Super Cade, but Bundy & Heenan will be allowed to pick the stipulations of the match. Tunney wished both men good luck before the video faded out.
We threw it to the arena where Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were standing by, and Niemiller was already livid about hearing the decision by Tunney. He said Martel whined and cried and because of all of the idiots watching at home, he got what he wanted. Monsoon said justice was served, and now we have a historic main event set for Super Cade II! Monsoon said not only that, but we may have a historic day today on Superstars because in our main event, King Kong Bundy defends the World Title against "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes! Niemiller said that Tunney's decision may be the worst thing that ever happened to Rhodes, because an already angry World champion is going to be even angrier! Monsoon mentioned that we also have Wahoo McDaniel, Big John Studd, and the Mexican Eagles in action today, but first, down to the ring for the Hart Foundation!
MATCH #1 The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Darryl Bowlin/Ivan MacDonald
The Hitman and the Anvil continue to look great with a win to kick off Superstars.
The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Darryl Bowlin and Ivan MacDonald when B. Hart pinned Bowlin after a German suplex in 0:03:36. Rating: 1/2*
After the match, Niemiller went down to get a word with the Hart Foundation. Jimmy Hart said that there was a lot of talk going around about how the new dominant tag team in GCW was the Road Warriors. Bret Hart said that was not true because the real dominant tag team was the Hart Foundation. They went on to challenge the Hawk & Animal to a match at Saturday Night Slam Masters.
MATCH #2 Wahoo McDaniel vs. The Gladiator
With just a week to go before Slam Masters, Wahoo McDaniel had little trouble putting away the Gladiator. Wahoo & Barry Windham take on Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson next Saturday night live on MTV.
Wahoo McDaniel defeated The Gladiator when Gladiator passed out in the Indian Deathlock in 0:02:41. Rating: **-1/4***
RICK MARTEL IS HAPPY WITH TUNNEY'S DECISION
Lord Alfred Hayes was standing by with Rick Martel to get his reaction on the news that he will be allowed to wrestle King Kong Bundy for the World Title at Super Cade II. Martel first of all thanked Jack Tunney for making the right decision and giving him the opportunity he has fought so hard for, and that is a shot to take the biggest title in the game at the biggest show in history. Most importantly though, Martel wanted to thank the fans. He said without all of their calls, their letters, and their support, he would have never gotten this chance. At that point, BOBBY HEENAN came into view, and he had a big smile on his face. Martel asked him why he was smiling. Heenan said Martel whined and cried and got his way, but it will be the biggest mistake of his career. Heenan told Martel to be careful what you wish for, because Bundy & he get to choose the stipulations for the match. Before Heenan left, he told Martel to say goodbye to those same fans who helped him get this title shot, because after April 7, we were never going to see Martel again.
MATCH #3 The Mexican Eagles vs. Dave Barbie/AJ Petruzzi
During this victory by the Mexican Eagles, they cut an insert promo where Chavo Guerrero talked about his busy weekend next week, with matches against The Barbarian & Adrian Adonis. Chavo said that it was going to be a difficult weekend, but the former Intercontinental champion was going to come out on top.
The Mexican Eagles (Chavo Guerrero and Dos Caras) defeated Dave Barbie and AJ Petruzzi when C. Guerrero pinned Barbie after a rolling cradle in 0:04:00. Rating: **
MATCH #4 Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Neil Carr/Paul Christy
Another handicap match, another domination by Big John Studd. Though these matches have been impressive, it'll be a whole different ball game when he meets Andre the Giant at Super Cade II.
Handicap-Match: Big John Studd defeated Neil Carr and Paul Christy when Studd pinned Carr with the Backbreaker in 0:01:40. Rating: -* 1/4
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
We're just one week away from Saturday Night Slam Masters, and "Mean" Gene Okerlund was here with all the news. He actually had breaking news to begin, as he could officially announce that The Road Warriors accepted the challenge of The Hart Foundation from earlier in the program, and the match will go down at Slam Masters! This match rounds out a fantastic night of action that will feature Chavo Guerrero vs. The Barbarian, Wahoo McDaniel & Barry Windham vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson, and Robert Gibson vs. Sgt Slaughter where if Gibson wins, the Rock 'N Roll Express get a World Tag Team Title match at Super Cade II!
The night after that, we head north of the border to the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto for a huge live event! On this show, we will seem the proud Canadian team of The Rougeau Brothers challenging Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen for the World Tag Team Titles! We will also see Koko B. Ware take on The Barbarian, and Chavo Guerrero go one-on-one with Adrian Adonis. And this just in, the tag titles won't be the only titles on the line as just signed, we will have an Intercontinental Title match between champion Ted DiBiase and challenger Shiro Koshinaka. The Japanese Assassin is ever dangerous, and you know "Classy" Freddie Blassie would love to have some gold in The Foreign Legion.
And then the big one, Super Cade II, live from the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Monday, April 7! And what huge news we got earlier today - King Kong Bundy will defend the World Heavyweight Title in the main event against the man we thought would never get another chance at the gold, Rick Martel! To add even more intrigue to the match, Bundy & Bobby Heenan will get to choose the stipulation for the match, and knowing their diabolical minds, it could be nearly anything! Okerlund informed us that the stipulation for the match will be announced next Saturday night on Slam Masters as we will have the official contract signing! Also scheduled is the previously announced Battle of the Giants between Andre the Giant & Big John Studd. And just announced, there will be a 6-man tag team match between the team of Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog, & Koko B. Ware against The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, & Shiro Koshinaka in a Flag Match! The winning team will proudly get to wave their flags high, so you know there will be a lot at stake in this contest.
MATCH #5 World Title Match King Kong Bundy (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes
We had a rare World Title match on Superstars, and this one was huge. There is perhaps no bigger star in the history of GCW than Dusty Rhodes. He has done it all, and he is a stalwart on the roster. He knows that he isn't as young as he used to be, and he wanted to hold the biggest prize in the game just one more time. The American Dream has overcome the odds so many times in the past, but King Kong Bundy is a different type of mountain to climb. Rhodes was up to the challenge though, no backing down from Bundy for an instance. Rhodes knew he had to get Bundy off his feet, but that is easier said than done. Rhodes kept trying to take out Bundy's legs to get him off his feet. Rhodes also knew he was going to absorb a lot of punishment, which he did, but no one can fight back like the American Dream. Dusty mounted his comeback late, but he made one critical error when he went for an ill-advised bodyslam. The weight of Bundy was too much as he came crashing down on the ribs of Rhodes. The Big Splash followed, and this one was in the books.
King Kong Bundy pinned Dusty Rhodes with the Big Splash in 0:14:04. Rating: ** (King Kong Bundy retained the GCW World Title.)
A valiant effort from Dusty Rhodes, but his quest to become a three-time World champion fell just short.
Be sure to join us next week on Superstars as we will have the lead-in to Saturday Night Slam Masters! The Electric Dream Machine will be here. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan will be here. The World Tag Team champions, Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen, will be in action. Raymond Rougeau will meet Dino Bravo, and in our main event, Dusty Rhodes will take on Arn Anderson! Don't miss it!

A lot of great matches coming up on your next couple of supershows. President Tunney reinstating Martel based on fans' feedback would have been a weak storyline in 2015, but it worked in the 80's.
I will be surprised if you don't hand Martel the strap at SuperCade II though. Good to have you back Ryan, I know you've had a tough time recently.

It was pretty obvious Martel was getting another shot but I like the added twist of Bundy and Heenan picking the stipulation. Martel has got the deck stacked against him big time. Let’s mention how big of a star Martel is in this Universe!
I see this was taped before Rhodes showed up at some random indy shot in California…
You’re giving away the Hart Foundation vs. Road Warriors?!? I hope you’ve got something good up your sleeve for that one. Also, Ivan MacDonald is a hilarious name.
It’s crazy that Wahoo is one of the focal points going into a SNSM. It shows you’re writing him very well. I predict Tully and Arn will bump and feed their asses off for him at SNSM and he’ll ride off into the sunset after Super Cade.
Again, Martel is a huge star. I won’t say he’s fully ruled out his future teams with Zenk and Tito, but it’s tough to think of a scenario that he’d fall back into a team during the peak of his career.
Knock em dead, Chavo!
I like the use of Handicap Matches. They’re such an after thought since we rarely see them but they’re so effective.
So I’ve changed my mind. Gibson is in the Rock N Roll Express and he’s wrestling on MTV. Gibson has to go over on Slaughter. You’re juggling three big shows at once and I’m impressed. What’s really great is your Tag Titles can legitimately main event and the Rougeaus challenging in Toronto is a pretty big deal.
Rhodes could have turned GCW on its head with a win over Bundy but it wasn’t to be. A veteran like him should have known not to bodyslam Bundy. And Bundy getting a clean win over Dusty is super impressive. This was quite the Superstars!
Looks like I’m up for TV and then you’re up for 3!

3/1/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 2/18/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Tonight's the night for Saturday Night Slam Masters on MTV, but we had a little business to take care here on Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were here for the show, letting us know we would see the Electric Dream Machine in action, as well as "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. The World Tag Team champions are here, and in our main event, the man who almost became World champ last week, Dusty Rhodes, takes on Arn Anderson! But first to the ring for Raymond Rougeau vs. Dino Bravo!
MATCH #1 Raymond Rougeau vs. "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Raymond Rougeau's brother Jacques wasn't allowed at ringside because he doesn't have an official manager's license, which let Jimmy Hart cheat for Dino Bravo through. Rougeau's speed edge kept Bravo off balance as he couldn't seem to keep up with him, but the tide changed when Rougeau got himself on the top looking for a big move. Hart cut him off by jumping on the apron to cause the distraction, allowing Bravo to get to his feet and crotch Rougeau on the top rope. Bravo then hit the Side Suplex and this one was in the books.
Dino Bravo pinned Raymond Rougeau with the Side Suplex in 0:05:33. Rating: ***
Bravo wanted to hit a second Side Suplex, but JACQUES ROUGEAU ran out and sent him from the ring with a dropkick, much to the crowd's delight.
MATCH #2 The Electric Dream Machine (w/ Precious) vs. Rusty Brooks/Johnny K9
The Electric Dream Machine decided they liked their new sparkly jackets so much that they weren't going to take them off for the match. It was abrasive and distracting. But they won, so knowing them, they're probably wear it all the time now.
The Electric Dream Machine (Jimmy Garvin and Steve Regal) defeated Rusty Brooks and Johnny K9 when J. Garvin pinned K9 with the DDT in 0:02:47. Rating: 1/4*
RICK MARTEL HAS A SURPRISE FOR BUNDY
Monsoon sent us back to Lord Alfred Hayes who was standing by with Rick Martel. Hayes congratulated Martel on being named the #1 contender for the World Title at Super Cade II. Martel thanked Hayes and said that he has worked long and hard for this chance and he will not let it slip by. Lord Alfred reminded Martel that it will be King Kong Bundy & Bobby Heenan who get to pick the stipulations for the match during tonight's contract signing. Martel said he'd be a fool not to be worried somewhat because the entire Heenan Family are devious, but he assured Hayes and everyone at home that if they tried anything funny tonight, he had a big surprise in store for them.
MATCH #3 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. Bob Wade
Jim Duggan continues to roll along. During the match, Monsoon & Niemiller speculated about what Hacksaw's role might be at Super Cade. Niemiller suggested being locked in a zoo.
Jim Duggan pinned Bob Wade with the Three Point Stance in 0:02:22. Rating: 1/4*
MATCH #4 Non-Title Match Sgt. Slaughter/Stan Hansen (World Tag Team champions) vs. Chuck Simpson/Bob Bradley
This match featured an insert promo from the champs where Stan Hansen described, in vivid detail, what Sgt. Slaughter was going to do to Robert Gibson tonight at Saturday Night Slam Masters. The injuries Hansen described were so specific that even Slaughter looked a little disturbed.
Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen defeated Chuck Simpson and Bob Bradley when Slaughter pinned Bradley after a clothesline in 0:03:07. Rating: 1/4*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene Okerlund filed today's Live Event Report from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ, the site of tonight's Saturday Night Main Event. He ran down the card, which will feature Chavo Guerrero vs. The Barbarian, The Road Warriors vs. The Hart Foundation, Wahoo McDaniel & Barry Windham vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson, and Robert Gibson meeting Sgt. Slaughter with a shot at the World Tag Team Titles on the line. Okerlund focused mostly on the big contract signing scheduled with World champ King Kong Bundy & #1 contender Rick Martel, where we will find out what stipulation Bundy has chosen for the match. Martel has also promised a surprise for Bundy & Bobby Heenan if they get out of line tonight.
Tomorrow night we then head north of the border to Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the Maple Leaf Gardens for a big live event. Here is what is on the books so far for that show. Intercontinental champion Ted DiBiase defends his title against Shiro Koshinaka. The Rougeau Brothers get the chance of a lifetime when they take on World Tag Team champions Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen with the titles on the line. Koko B. Ware takes on The Barbarian, while Chavo Guerrero meets "Adorable" Adrian Adonis. And just signed, The Road Warriors will have a second tough task this weekend when they go up against The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff of the Foreign Legion.
Then on Monday, April 7, Los Angeles will play host to the biggest wrestling event in history, Super Cade II! As we know, the main event will be King Kong Bundy defending the World Title against Rick Martel in a match with stipulations we will know later tonight. We also will have a 6-man Flag Match between Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog, & Koko B. Ware taking on The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, & Shiro Koshinaka. And the other match signed is the Battle of the Giants between Andre the Giant and Big John Studd. We got a promo from Studd & Bobby Heenan where they declared that just as quickly as Andre comes back, he will be put right back on the shelf by the man who injured him in the first place, Big John Studd.
MATCH #5 "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)
Dusty Rhodes was so close to winning the World Title last week on this program, but fell just a little bit short. He had a match with another member of the Heenan Family, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, and you could tell the Dream was wrestling motivated. Anderson is one of the best technical wrestlers in the game and he was trying to systematically pick Rhodes about, but Dusty refused to stay down, always finding a way to get some separation. Rhodes blocked the Gourdbuster late en route to hitting the Bionic Elbowdrop to get the win.
Dusty Rhodes pinned Arn Anderson with the Bionic Elbowdrop in 0:08:09. Rating: *** 1/4
DUSTY RHODES WANTS TO PUT IT ALL ON THE LINE FOR ONE MORE SHOT
Gorilla Monsoon grabbed a quick interview with Rhodes before we went off the air. Rhodes said that not winning last week has left a sour taste in his mouth as he knows he can take the World Title from King Kong Bundy. That's why Rhodes wanted one more match. He was looking straight at Bobby Heenan when he said he wanted to face Bundy for the World Title tomorrow night in Toronto. Heenan came over laughing, asking Rhodes what made him think he deserved another shot. The Dream said he was so confident that he would win that he would put his career on the line, Dusty said if he doesn't walk out World champion, he would leave Global Championship Wrestling! This made the Brain light up like a Christmas tree as he accepted, and now we have a gigantic World Title match in place for Toronto!
Next week on Superstars, be sure to join us as we will have the fallout from Slam Masters and Toronto, as well as some great wrestling action to boot. Ted DiBiase is in action, as well as Big John Studd! The Mexican Eagles will take on the team of The Barbarian & Adrian Adonis, and Wahoo McDaniel will have one final shot to capture the Television Title when he takes on Tully Blanchard 1-on-1!

Good to see Dino win on TV over a guy with some credibility. These French Canadians should learn to get along.
The sparkly jackets are over!
I love surprises! Martel better be bringing the thunder.
Locking Duggan in a zoo isn’t a terrible idea but I hope Duggan gets a marquee match at Supercade.
I can only imagine the things Hansen was saying… with all that tobacco juice flying out of his mouth. That might have something to do with Slaughter looking disturbed too.
Road Warriors vs. Nikolai & Sheik sounds fun! A lot of bruisers in that match. I’m getting excited about Super Cade. You better not let me down.
I thought Rhodes would take some time to regroup after losing to Bundy but he’s more motivated than ever now. Big win over Arn Anderson. And Toronto just became a can’t miss event. Either Rhodes is about to have his last match in GCW or there’s going to be a major shakeup in the ranks just before Super Cade. Awesome stuff!

3/1/86 - Saturday Night Slam Masters (taped 2/15/86) LOCATION - Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Phoenix, AZ
"Obsession" by Animotion rang in the hottest show on MTV, the hottest program on all of television, Saturday Night Slam Masters! Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan were at the announce position, and before Monsoon could even start running down the card for the night, the Brain said he had a big surprise for him. Heenan let Monsoon know that he would not be doing commentary with him. Monsoon was dumbfounded, asking if it was his birthday. Heenan said not to be too sad, because he found a replacement for the night. Monsoon got a look of worry on his face as Heenan said the man was a good friend of mine, and is the only man he would trust to fill his shoes in the announce booth. With that, he introduced JESSE "THE BODY" VENTURA! Ventura joined the booth, dressed as garishly as you could imagine, and shook Heenan's hand, wishing him luck tonight. Ventura then said, "Hi, Gino" before telling the fans watching at home that we finally had someone else besides the Brain who would tell it like it is in the broadcast booth. Monsoon was just staring at Ventura, who told him to stop gawking and get to the card. Monsoon regained his composure and said we did have a huge night ahead of us as we marched toward Super Cade II. He mentioned we'd have Chavo Guerrero taking on The Barbarian. Ventura said Barbarian was one scary dude, and he didn't envy Chavo tonight. We'll also see the Road Warriors taking on the Hart Foundation. Ventura said that Hawk & Animal were mean and tough, but Paul Ellering wasn't the manager Jimmy Hart was and that would be the difference. They talked about the main event, which would be Robert Gibson taking on Sgt. Slaughter with the right for the Rock 'N Roll Express to challenge the Unholy Alliance for the World Tag Team Titles at Super Cade. Ventura said the return of Gibson was inspiring, but this fairytale wouldn't have a happy ending. And then of course, the big contract signing for the World Title match between champion King Kong Bundy and challenger Rick Martel. Monsoon speculated about what stipulation Bundy & Heenan would choose. Ventura said he talked to Heenan about it and boy, Martel was in trouble! But now they cut to the ring for our opening contest!
MATCH #1 Wahoo McDaniel/Barry Windham vs. Tully Blanchard (Television champion)/"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)
Tag team action kicked off the program as Wahoo McDaniel teamed with Barry Windham to take on Television champion Tully Blanchard & "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson. Wahoo has been unable to get the TV Title off of Blanchard's waist, despite coming painfully close to doing so. He was had problems with the numbers game, but he got a little help in the form of an old friend and Heenan Family foe, Barry Windham. Wahoo & Windham came out a house of fire, but Blanchard & Anderson have been together for years now. Say what you want about them, but they work as a well-oiled machine. That was shining through in this one and it looked like Wahoo & Windham would fall a little short. Blanchard got a little too cocky when he had Wahoo down though, taking way too much time to play to the crowd instead of putting the veteran away. Wahoo reversed the Slingshot Suplex with a vertical suplex and made the hot tag to Windham. Windham came in a bundle of energy, taking out both Blanchard & Anderson to Heenan's dismay. The numbers got to him, but Wahoo recovered enough to tackle Anderson and take him to the floor. While Wahoo & the Enforcer brawled at ringside, Windham caught Blanchard on the top rope trying to jump on him. Windham hit the Superplex and pinned the TV champion clean in the middle of the ring!
Barry Windham and Wahoo McDaniel defeated The Heenan Family (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) when Windham pinned Blanchard with the Superplex in 0:11:27. Rating: *** 3/4
Bobby Heenan couldn't believe that Windham just pinned the TV champion. Heenan grabbed the Television Title and gave it to Blanchard, who clutched it tight muttering, "I'm still the champ… I'm still the champ." Monsoon looks like we might just have our next challenger for Tully Blanchard.
MATCH #2 Chavo Guerrero vs. The Barbarian
The Barbarian has dominated everyone he's been in the ring against so far in GCW, but it has admittedly been a small sample size. Going up against a former Intercontinental champion would be a good measuring stick. Taking on The Barbarian was going to be tough enough for Chavo, but it wasn't long into the match that he had to deal with ADRIAN ADONIS too. Chavo takes on Adonis tomorrow night in Toronto, and the Adorable One was apparently doing a little scouting. That's what Jimmy Hart was claiming anyway, but the scouting became blatant interference when he grabbed Guerrero's leg as he hit the ropes. Chavo turned back to The Barbarian where he was met with a Mafia kick. The Diving Headbutt was next and that was all she wrote.
The Barbarian pinned Chavo Guerrero with the Diving Headbutt in 0:03:53. Rating: * 1/4 [Adrian Adonis interfered against Chavo Guerrero.]
Adonis got in the ring and stood over the unconscious Chavo Guerrero. Adonis pulled out a tube of lipstick and put it on Chavo, the ultimate insult to injury. Before any further damage could be done, DOS CARAS ran down to run Adonis off. Monsoon was sickened by what just happened, but Ventura commented that he thought it was a good look for Chavo.
CONTRACT SIGNING BETWEEN KING KONG BUNDY & RICK MARTEL
Back from a commercial, "Mean" Gene Okerlund was in the ring to moderate the contract signing between World champion King Kong Bundy and #1 contender Rick Martel. Martel was allowed to speak first and talked about how he didn't trust Bundy and Bobby Heenan at all. He knew being in this ring alone right now was a dangerous prospect. He knew that the rest of the Heenan Family wasn't far away, so he brought a little backup. He introduced BOB BACKLUND, who came out, making Heenan about lose his mind. Once Backlund was behind him, Martel said he knew he was the underdog. He knew he had the fight of his life ahead of him at Super Cade, but with all of the support he has gotten from the fans, how hard he has worked to come back from a neck injury that nearly paralyzed him to get to this point, there was no way he was going to walk out of Los Angeles without the World Title. Heenan interrupted and said the whole story was very inspirational and moving, but it was going to take a lot more than a dream to dethrone Bundy. He reminded everyone that Bundy is 468 pounds, not just some small obstacle in his way. He told Martel he was in danger, not only because he has a bad neck, but because Bundy was looking to hurt him. Heenan looked at Backlund and told Martel to ask him what it's like to be injured by Bundy. He gave Martel one last chance to back out now before he gets put on the shelf permanently. Martel, as predicted, declined. Heenan laughed and said that's fine, because that's exactly what Bundy wanted. The Brain announced that the main event of Super Cade II will be a STEEL CAGE MATCH! To close the segment, Heenan told all of the fans to enjoy seeing Martel while they could, because after April 7, we would never see him again.
MATCH #3 The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart)
The Hart Foundation are annoyed that the Road Warriors have come in with such fanfare, feeling that they're getting overlooked in the tag team division. They wanted to fix that by challenging Hawk & Animal to a match. Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart wanted to avoid getting in a huge brawl with the Road Warriors, but it wasn't working too well. Hawk & Animal just come at you in high gear from bell to bell. They're relentless. Jimmy Hart saw his team was in big trouble, so he jumped up on the apron to distract the referee Joey Marella. In doing so, he tossed his megaphone in the ring to Neidhart. Unfortunately for him, the Anvil didn't get a hold of it - Hawk did. Paul Ellering came around and pulled Jimmy Hart to the floor before knocking his block off with a right hand. Meanwhile in the ring, Hawk blasted Neidhart between the eyes with the megaphone. The crowd cheered loudly, but then Marella turned around and saw Neidhart unconscious and Hawk holding the weapon. He had no choice but to call for the disqualification.
The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) when Neidhart defeated Hawk by disqualification in 0:08:13. Rating: *
Hawk & Animal nearly lost their minds when Howard Finkel announced that the Hart Foundation the winners. Ellering pleaded with Marella to reverse the decision but to no avail. Ventura said that the Road Warriors are out of control and they got what was coming to them. Monsoon said this was a miscarriage of justice, and Jimmy Hart should be careful about who he makes angry.
BAD NEWS BROWN HAS SOME STRONG WORDS FOR TED DIBIASE
We cut to a previously recorded interview conducted by Lord Alfred Hayes with Bad News Brown. Brown had one man on his mind, and that was Ted DiBiase. Brown said the fight he had with DiBiase on February 15 on Superstars is some of the most fun he'd had in awhile. He gave DiBiase a little credit for not backing down, but he also said that was going to be "that cracker's biggest mistake." Brown wanted another shot at the Intercontinental Title, and he wanted it at Super Cade.
MATCH #4 Robert Gibson (w/ Ricky Morton) vs. Sgt. Slaughter (World Tag Team champion) (w/ Stan Hansen)
The crowd was buzzing for our main event, but even with the crowd's support, Robert Gibson was going to need a miracle. Not only is he coming back from an injury, but he's going against Sgt. Slaughter, one of the most dangerous men in all of wrestling and the man who put him on the shelf to begin with. This match went about how you would expect it to for the majority. Gibson did everything he could to stay alive, but he was getting the stuffing beat out of him by Slaughter. It looked the dream of the Rock 'N Roll Express wrestling for the tag team titles was fading fast. The World Tag Team champions weren't content on just beating Gibson - they wanted to see him humiliated. Late in the match, Stan Hansen got up on the apron and held Gibson open for Slaughter. Slaughter hit the ropes, but Gibson got loose and Slaughter nailed Hansen! Hansen fell to the floor as Gibson caught Slaughter with a crucifix, but he couldn't get him over. Hansen jumped back on the apron throwing a fit as referee Tommy Young cut him off and told him to get on the floor. While Young had his back turned, Ricky Morton slid in the ring and dropkicked Slaughter in the chest! This let Gibson bring Slaughter over in the crucifix. Young saw it, made the count, and this one was over!
Robert Gibson pinned Sgt. Slaughter after a crucifix in 0:14:10. Rating: *** 1/4
The Rock 'N Roll Express will now officially get to challenge the Unholy Alliance for the World Tag Team Titles at Super Cade! Will lightning be able to strike twice when the titles are on the line?
BOBBY HEENAN IS LIVID
To close the show, "Mean" Gene Okerlund got a word with Bobby Heenan, who was standing with the entire Heenan Family. Heenan was beside himself over how the contract signing went down. Okerlund said that Heenan should be ashamed of himself for what they tried to perpetrate against Rick Martel, and thank goodness that Bob Backlund was there to prevent anything worse from happening. Heenan yelled for Okerlund to shut up. He said that Backlund should know better than to keep sticking his nose in the Family's business, reminding him what happened last time he messed with King Kong Bundy. Heenan said he was tired of this and wanted to teach Martel & Backlund a lesson. He proposed the two team up to take on Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson tomorrow night in Toronto. Blanchard promised Backlund he was going to wish he had just stayed on the shelf after tomorrow, while the Enforcer promised that Martel wouldn't even make it to the cage at Super Cade.
Card rating: ** 1/4

I knew Ventura wouldn’t stay out of the national spotlight for long! I’m glad he’s sitting beside Gorilla now, though, as that’s my all time favorite announcing duo.
Excellent way to kick off a Windham/Tully showdown for the TV Title, perhaps at Super Cade.
Aw man, Chavo goes down. At least he didn’t look like a chump. Adonis with the lipstick is highly disrespectful but such good heat. I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes as well as who The Barbarian will be tested with next.
Well Bob Backlund wasn’t the surprise I was expecting, which actually made it quite the surprise. I did have a good idea we would see the Steel Cage though. I really hope that match is a success because I’m digging both Bundy and Martel right now.
Great finish to the tag match! The good guys should always get caught cheating. This is looking like it will NOT be a one-and-done and I’m tickled about it.
Bad News busting out the “C” word on national TV! Two thumbs up for a rematch at Super Cade.
Huge upset with Gibson going over! I could imagine the roar of the crowd on the 3 count! Super Cade is really shaping up. I can see why you’re excited about it.
Heenan is selling tickets for Toronto big time. That’s a huge match to add to that card. This was a hell of a show my friend.

3/2/86 - Maple Leaf Gardens - Toronto, ON, CA
MATCH #1 Chavo Guerrero (w/ Dos Caras) vs. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
This match became very personal very quickly thanks to the actions of Adonis last night on Slam Masters. Adonis came out last night during Chavo's match with The Barbarian, trying to disrespect him afterwards by putting lipstick on him when Dos Caras made the save. Caras was down at ringside with his partner to make sure no shenanigans like that happened. During the match, Adonis taunted Caras at ringside the entire time, blowing kisses at him and generally trying to make him uncomfortable. It almost cost him when Chavo got him in a rollup, but not long after, Adonis got him in the Goodnight Irene for the win.
Adrian Adonis made Chavo Guerrero submit to the Goodnight Irene in 0:08:55. Rating: ***
Afterwards, Adonis grabbed the lipstick from Jimmy Hart and was looking to use it on Chavo, but Caras quickly got in the ring and caught Adonis in the mush with a dropkick. Adonis stumbled out of the ring yelling about how his makeup was ruined now and that Caras was going to get it. I shudder to think what he means by "it."
MATCH #2 The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Freddie Blassie)
The Road Warriors have been mowing through the competition, but hit a snag last night when thanks to some chicanery from the Hart Foundation, Hawk & Animal suffered their first loss, albeit via disqualification. You could tell they came into this match with an angry chip on their shoulder, because they came out with guns blazing against Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik. Paul Ellering was able to counteract anything "Classy" Freddie Blassie may have thought about doing, and the Doomsday Device on Volkoff put this one in the books.
The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) defeated The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik) when Hawk pinned Volkoff after the Doomsday Device in 0:05:29. Rating: *
Hawk had barely even gotten the three count when BRET HART & JIM NEIDHART were in the ring beating him down. Animal joined the fray and had the Hart Foundation reeling, but The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff were back up and joined in. The Road Warriors fought valiantly, but the numbers were too great and for the first time, we saw Hawk & Animal laid out in the ring. A small victory for the Hart Foundation, but I don't know how happy they're going to be when the Road Warriors get a hold of them.
MATCH #3 Intercontinental Title Match Ted DiBiase (c) vs. Shiro Koshinaka (w/ Freddie Blassie)
Freddie Blassie didn't have to go far as his other charge, "The Japanese Assassin" Shiro Koshinaka, had a huge opportunity as he had a chance to take the Intercontinental Title back to Japan with him against reigning champion Ted DiBiase. Koshinaka's martial arts background was a lot for DiBiase to handle early, but once DiBiase got a hold of the challenger, his technical savvy took over. A double underhook superplex put this one in the books. Another successful title defense for DiBiase, but he does have Bad News Brown breathing down his neck.
Ted DiBiase pinned Shiro Koshinaka after a double underhook superplex in 0:07:40. Rating: ** (Ted DiBiase retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)
MATCH #4 "Chief" Wahoo McDaniel vs. Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan)
You have to give Wahoo McDaniel credit. He's been in many battles over his illustrious career, and he didn't back down from Big John Studd one bit. Bobby Heenan even got on the microphone before the match and gave Wahoo the chance to just leave unscathed, but Wahoo responded by attacking Studd with chops to signal the start of the match. Wahoo's flurry staggered Studd and almost knocked him off his feet, but Studd cut him off with a big clubbing blow. Wahoo had a couple more glimmers of hope, but the inevitable came and Studd won the match in convincing fashion. Studd has been impressive, but will he be able to dominate Andre the Giant like that?
Big John Studd pinned Wahoo McDaniel after an enzuilariato in 0:04:11. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #5 World Tag Team Title Match Sgt. Slaughter/Stan "The Lariat" Hansen (c) vs. The Rougeau Brothers
The Rougeau Brothers have a ton of heart, and they had the Canadian crowd fully on their side as they had the chance of a lifetime against the World Tag Team champions, Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen. Now on paper, this should have been an easy and possibly scary victory for Slaughter & Hansen, but matches in GCW aren't wrestled on paper (well…). Sure, Jacques & Raymond took quite a beating during stages of this match, as anyone is going to have happen against the Unholy Alliance. But this match had the makings of a perfect storm. Challengers being overlooked, challengers that have nothing to lose, challengers wrestling with the overwhelming support of their home country. The Rougeaus had several instances where a roll up or flash pin almost got the win, and the champs looked out of sorts for a good portion of this one. That is, until Hansen nearly decapitated Jacques out of nowhere with the Lariat to put this one in the books. After the match, the Rougeaus received a standing ovation for their efforts. Tonight wasn't their night, but they definitely showed they can hang with the big boys in the tag team division.
Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen defeated The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) when Hansen pinned J. Rougeau with the Lariat in 0:12:25. Rating: *** 1/2 (Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)
MATCH #6 Rick Martel/Bob Backlund vs. Tully Blanchard (Television champion)/"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)
After intermission, we had this big tag team match, and it was a classic. Bob Backlund has returned to watch Rick Martel's back in their ongoing battles against the Heenan Family, as Martel prepares for the fight of his life against King Kong Bundy at Super Cade II. Heenan wants nothing more than for Martel to not make it to the match at 100%, which is where Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson come in. Their goal here wasn't just to win the match; it was to soften Martel up so that Bundy's job would be much easier. This match went over 20 minutes, and a lot of that time was spent with Blanchard & Anderson working over Martel's neck, his one well-known weakness. Martel might have been better suited just taking a loss here instead of taking all this punishment, but that's not in Martel's DNA. Backlund was cheering him on the entire time as well, and helped Martel get back on the offensive and eventually lead to Martel getting Anderson in the Boston Crab to secure victory.
Bob Backlund and Rick Martel defeated The Heenan Family (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) when Martel made Anderson submit to the Boston Crab in 0:21:18. Rating: **** 1/2
This didn't go the way that Bobby Heenan wanted it to, but one couldn't help but notice Martel favoring his neck after the match. This does not bode well for Martel only a month away from the biggest match of his life.
MATCH #7 Koko B. Ware vs. The Barbarian
Both of these men have made a big splash in GCW since their recent debuts, but something had to give when they fought each other tonight. Koko B. Ware had the speed advantage, but he was giving up a lot of size and strength to The Barbarian. If Ware could stay out of his grasps, he had a good shot of pulling this off. He did an exceptional job of that early using dropkicks and stiff jabs, but once The Barbarian got a hold of him… yikes.
The Barbarian pinned Koko B. Ware with the Diving Headbutt in 0:06:24. Rating: ** 3/4
MATCH #8 MAIN EVENT World Title Match King Kong Bundy (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes
This was the ultimate do or die for Dusty Rhodes. Either he defeats King Kong Bundy and walks out the World champion, or he willingly leaves GCW forever. Rhodes has been in high pressure situations before, but never like this, and especially never against somebody as dangerous as our reigning World champ. The American Dream came out with all guns blazing, bumrushing Bundy before he even had handed over the gold to referee Tommy Young. Rhodes wanted to put this away quickly and almost did more than once, but Bundy's size helped the champ survive and get on the offensive. When Bundy is fighting from on top, he's extremely dangerous, and with every passing moment, it looked like Rhodes' career was coming ever closer to being done. But if there's one thing you can always count on from the Dream, it's that he's never going to give up. Rhodes dodged an Avalanche attempt and went to work. Rhodes was developing momentum as he fired away at Bundy with bionic elbows, trying to knock the monster of a man off his feet. Rhodes was throwing everything at the big man, staggering him, but not getting him down to the mat. Eventually Rhodes went up top, an uncharacteristic move for him, but he connected with a huge top rope bionic elbow. Bundy staggered and fell to the mat! Rhodes got the 1..2.. Bobby Heenan put Bundy's foot on the ropes! The Dream reached out and got a hold of Heenan, pulling him up onto the apron. The crowd begged Rhodes to clock him, and Rhodes obliged, knocking the Weasel to the floor. Unfortunately, when he turned back into the ring, Bundy dropped him with a powerslam. Bundy hit the Big Splash, and despite the fans' pleas, Rhodes could not kick out.
[IF RHODES LOSES, HE WILL LEAVE GCW]: King Kong Bundy pinned Dusty Rhodes with the Big Splash in 0:12:34. Rating: ** 1/2 (King Kong Bundy retained the GCW World Title.)
This is the end of Dusty Rhodes in GCW. A valiant effort, but Bundy was just a bit too much for him. After Bundy & Heenan left, Rhodes got to his feet and it sunk in that his career here in GCW was over. The crowd gave him a big standing ovation as he waved his thanks. A large portion of the locker room spilled out and applauded Rhodes from the aisle, including Bob Backlund, Rick Martel, Jim Duggan, Ted DiBiase, and others. The Dream grabbed the microphone to say a few words, thanking the fans for following him all of these years, through the good times and the bad times. He told them he would never forget them and thanks for a hell of a ride. A classy departure for one of the all-time greats.
Card rating: ***

I like this little feud Adonis has started with Chavo & Dos Caras because I like all 3. Adonis is likely to get elevated the most coming out of it.
That’s a HUGE Doomsday Device! Hawk & Animal look vulnerable, which is rare, but it’s good to get that out of the way from the start. This feud is a dream.
There was no doubt Dibiase was retaining here and some strong wins going into the showdown with Bad News sure helps his momentum.
So I googled enzuilariato and so many results were TNM sims. I’m sure it’s a move though, and I’m sure I would be impressed that Studd did it. No one is slowing Studd down right now.
I thought the Tag Title match might go on last due to it’s location and the challengers. Rougeau’s looked better than ever in this match, as they should have. Hometown boys fighting as underdogs is a huge draw.
This card is really overachieving. Sandwiched between SNSM and Super Cade, it seemed like an afterthought but the boys are putting in work! Martel/Backlund vs. Tully/Arn seems like a match I would find on a Best of GCW DVD in 2005.
Barbarian is looking like a world beater. I’m wondering if we’ll see someone really step up to the challenge at Super Cade or if Barb’s first big feud will come after.
Awesome writeup for a gigantic main event. This could have headlined Super Cade. Rhodes went out in a blaze of glory and judging by his departure, it doesn’t seem like he’s leaving on his own terms. He’s headed to the west coast but it’s not for Super Cade.

3/8/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 2/18/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Super Cade II is a month away, and we had a packed show this week on Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller introed the show, and what a show it is. Big John Studd will be in action, as will the Intercontinental Title holder Ted DiBiase! The Mexican Eagles face a tough test in Adrian Adonis & The Barbarian! And in the main event, Wahoo McDaniel gets his final shot at the Television Title against reigning champion Tully Blanchard! That, and we will have more announcements regarding Super Cade II, including a new celebrity that will be on hand for the event! Now down to ringside for our first match of the program.
MATCH #1 Bob Backlund vs. Tony Stetson
After his last hiatus from injury, Bob Backlund is back and claims to be healthy for the first time in awhile. Backlund did an insert promo saying although he hopes the best for Rick Martel at Super Cade, he is going to be doing his own thing for awhile to get his career back on track. Well it's back onto a good start as he got an easy win here today.
Bob Backlund made Tony Stetson submit to an abdominal stretch in 0:03:02. Rating: *
DINO BRAVO HAS SOME WORDS FOR THE ROUGEAUS
We had a pre-tape from last week's show in Toronto following the event. GCW's newest broadcaster, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, was with "The Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo & his manager Jimmy Hart. Ventura talked about how happy he was to be with someone who might even be stronger than himself, and then inquired about why Bravo & Hart asked for this time. Bravo said that they were sickened by how the Rougeau Brothers had represented his home country tonight. Hart reminded everyone that Dino Bravo is the greatest tag team wrestler in GCW history, and that is was a disgrace to see the legacy of great Canadian tag team wrestlers ruined by a couple of bumbling idiots like Jacques & Raymond Rougeau. Bravo said he wanted to show the world why he is the best tag wrestler of all-time. Hart added that Bravo would find a partner and would take on the Rougeaus at Super Cade - if they had the guts.
MATCH #2 Non-Title Match Ted DiBiase (Intercontinental champion) vs. Nelson Veilleux
During this easy victory for Ted DiBiase, the Intercontinental champion did an insert promo saying that if Bad News Brown wanted a piece of him, he was more than happy to oblige. DiBiase confirmed that he would defend the IC Title against Brown at Super Cade, adding another huge match to an already huge event.
Ted DiBiase pinned Nelson Veilleux after a kneedrop in 0:02:10. Rating: ** 1/2
MATCH #3 The Mexican Eagles vs. The Barbarian/"Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Adrian Adonis has been making it a habit recently to taunt the Mexican Eagles, and that continued in this tag match. Adonis spent a lot of his time blowing kisses to Dos Caras & Chavo Guerrero, trying to draw their ire. One man he did draw the ire of was his own tag team partner. The Barbarian is about as no-nonsense as they come, and he showed that he wouldn't put up with anyone's tomfoolery - including his own tag team partner. The Barbarian grew tired of Adonis' antics, and showed it by nailing him with a clubbing blow from the apron. Adonis spun right into the hands of Caras, who got him in the Dos Caras Clutch to put this away. After the match, Adonis was throwing a tantrum about how The Barbarian made a huge mistake.
The Mexican Eagles (Chavo Guerrero and Dos Caras) defeated Adrian Adonis and The Barbarian when Dos Caras made Adonis submit to the Dos Caras Clutch in 0:06:33. Rating: ***
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene Okerlund announced two more matches as official for Super Cade II. With Ted DiBiase formally accepting the challenge of Bad News Brown earlier in the program, the Intercontinental Title will be on the line. The second match to be officially announced was a tag team encounter between The Road Warriors & The Hart Foundation. These two teams have been at each other's throats in recent weeks and will look to settle it once and for all on April 7. Okerlund reminded everyone that Tommy Lasorda & Elvira will also be at the event, and plugged that you can watch the show on this new thing called pay-per-view.
MATCH #4 Handicap Match Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Joe Mirto/Andre Malo
Another week, another handicap squash for Big John Studd. Studd continues to dominate this admittedly much lesser opposition, but will he be able to manhandle Andre the Giant at Super Cade?
Handicap-Match: Big John Studd defeated Joe Mirto and Andre Malo when Studd pinned Malo with the Backbreaker in 0:01:37. Rating: -* 1/2
TOMMY LASORDA REVEALS WHO WILL SING AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL AT SUPER CADE
We had a video shown next in what appeared to be a jazz bar in Los Angeles. As the camera panned out, we saw Tommy Lasorda sitting at a table enjoying the music being played. The camera panned back to show that the man who was playing the piano was the one and only RAY CHARLES! We then cut to a little skit at the table where Lasorda told Charles he was so excited to hear him perform "America, the Beautiful" at Super Cade. Charles echoed the sentiments, and said it was going to be a great time.
MATCH #5 Television Title Match Tully Blanchard (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Wahoo McDaniel
Before the match, Bobby Heenan got on the mic and told Wahoo McDaniel that this would be his last shot at the Television Title. Wahoo grabbed the mic from him and said, "It's the last shot I'll need, WEASEL!" and the fight was on. Blanchard has retained the gold for as long as he has because he is sneaky and he can take a lot of punishment, and he showcased both of those tonight. Wahoo was all over Blanchard for much of the match, but in the end, the crafty reigning champion suckered Wahoo back toward the corner, grabbed him by the front of the tights, and brought him face first in the middle turnbuckle. Heenan directed Blanchard to hit the Slingshot Suplex and that was the end of that.
Tully Blanchard pinned Wahoo McDaniel with the Slingshot Suplex in 0:07:41. Rating: ** 1/4 (Tully Blanchard retained the GCW Television Title.)
Be sure to join us next week on Superstars! Bad News Brown will be here, Barry Windham will be here, Rick Martel will be here! The Barbarian will be a guest on the Flower Shop, and our main event will be a 10-man tag pitting Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog, Koko B. Ware, & The Road Warriors against The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, Shiro Koshinaka, & The Hart Foundation!

Just the little detail of the insert promo freshens Backlund up. It will be nice to see where he takes his career in our universe since by this time IRL I think he was out of the spotlight.
I feel like The Rougeaus have been really good hands for you. I would say 1986 might be a good year to put them in a major feud at the top of the tag ranks but your tag division is getting stacked fast with legitimate teams. A little mystery behind Bravo’s choice for a partner is exciting.
I knew Brown vs. Dibiase was happening again. That’s such an intriguing match. I think it’s perfect for Dibiase, too, because he takes a good sympathy-inducing ass beating.
Adonis and Barbarian is about the oddest tag team combination you could have come up with. The end result was unexpected but not a total surprise. What is surprising is Adonis sounds like he won’t be letting this go. This could get VERY interesting.
What’s paper view??!?! OH! Pay-per-view! What’s that?!
A simple build for Studd but it’s effective. His ego needs to be fed anyway because he’ll quit on you otherwise.
You’re putting a lot into Super Cade! You even wrote the vignette announcing Ray Charles’ inclusion on the show. Nice touch!
You write Tully so well. This is exactly what I would expect from this match. All Wahoo until one desperation move and the finish. Tully needs a match for Super Cade now.
I’m looking at Super Cade and it’s STACKED. What sticks out is Martel and Bundy are headlining with all those huge stars underneath but you’ve built those two up so well that it makes sense.

3/15/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 2/18/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NYOnly 23 days away from Super Cade II, and we had a big day of action on GCW Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller ran down the card, which will feature Barry Windham, the #1 contender to the World Title, Rick Martel, Bad News Brown, and a huge 10-man tag team main event! Niemiller also mentioned that The Barbarian will be on The Flower Shop, so who knows what might go down there! But first to Howard Finkel for our first matchup of the day. MATCH #1 The Rock 'N Roll Express vs. Jeff Gripley/Ivan MacDonaldRicky Morton & Robert Gibson were firing on all cylinders in their win here to kick off the show. They did an insert promo during the contest saying that with every day they get a little more excited because they get one step closer to once again becoming the World Tag Team champions. Gibson mentioned that Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen are bigger than them and stronger than them, but they don't have more heart than them. Morton said that it won't be long before they are the 3-time champs. Niemiller found that laughable, until Monsoon brought up that Gibson pinned Slaughter recently on Saturday Night Slam Masters. The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated Jeff Gripley and Ivan MacDonald when R. Gibson made Gripley submit to the Gibson Leglock in 0:03:04. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #2 Barry Windham vs. Mr. XAfter getting a decisive win over Mr. X, Barry Windham informed everyone that he heard from a representative of the Championship Committee that because he pinned Tully Blanchard recently, he will be wrestling him for the Television Title at Super Cade! The crowd popped as he said that after April 7, he would be representing GCW Superstars as the Television champion. Barry Windham pinned Mr. X with the Superplex in 0:02:14. Rating: * 1/2
THE FLOWER SHOP W/ GUEST THE BARBARIANYou have to hand it to Adrian Adonis - he may not be smart, but he sure does have guts. His guest on The Flower Shop this week was the man he had a falling out with in a tag team match last week, The Barbarian. We have yet to hear The Barbarian speak, and that would continue here. The Barbarian showed up on the show, only to have Adonis & Jimmy Hart run him down, making some rather offensive cultural jokes about The Barbarian's heritage. It eventually got to Adonis challenging him to a match at Super Cade! When Barbarian didn't respond, Adonis made fun of him, asking if he could even speak at all. That's when The Barbarian floored him with a mafia kick. I'd consider that challenge accepted. MATCH #3 Rick Martel vs. Barry ORick Martel looks focused and ready for the main event at Super Cade II. Martel looked crisp in making quick work out of Barry O. But one has to remember, according to Niemiller, that Barry O is not King Kong Bundy and this was not a cage match. Monsoon said that may be so, but have you ever seen Martel more focused than he is right now? Niemiller (begrudgingly) said no, he hadn't. Rick Martel made Barry O submit to the Boston Crab in 0:02:23. Rating: *
MATCH #4 Bad News Brown vs. AJ PetruzziThis could be better qualified as a mugging than a match. Bad News Brown decimates AJ Petruzzi in just over a minute. This might not bode well for Ted DiBiase at Super Cade II. Bad News Brown pinned AJ Petruzzi after a German suplex in 0:01:01. Rating: -*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUNDAs we inch closer to Super Cade, "Mean" Gene gets more and more excited. Today he got to announce 3 new matches. As mentioned by Barry Windham earlier, he will get his Television Title shot against Tully Blanchard on the show. After what happened earlier, Okerlund could officially announce that Adrian Adonis and The Barbarian would go 1-on-1. And lastly, the Rougeaus will indeed be taking on Dino Bravo and his mystery partner. Who that partner is remains to be seen, but knowing Bravo's history as a tag team wrestler, the team should prove to be a threat. MATCH #5 The Road Warriors/Corporal Kirchner/Junkyard Dog/Koko B. Ware (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff/Shiro Koshinaka/The Hart Foundation (w/ Freddie Blassie & Jimmy Hart)This was a lot of chaos as you would expect with 10 men who generally don't like each other involved. This was a preview of sorts for two matches at Super Cade, and we found that the competitors in those respective matches had a tendency to want to go at it in this one. The match was back and forth, but would eventually be won by the fan favorites when Animal reversed a rana attempt by Shiro Koshinaka into a massive power bomb for the 3 count. The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal), Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog and Koko B. Ware defeated The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff, Shiro Koshinaka and The Iron Sheik) and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) when Animal pinned Koshinaka after a power bomb in 0:08:16. Rating: * 3/4We went off the air with the fan favorites celebrating in the ring, punctuated by Corporal Kirchner waving the American flag. UPCOMING EVENTS

Only 23 days? Let’s see if we can get it posted this week instead of an actual 23 days.
I always root against the RnRs but this feud is great and I feel like I’m behind them this time. Whatever happens this match could steal the show and I’m expecting Morton’s blood to be all over the LA Sports Arena.
I almost booked Mr. X at my last TV taping. Windham and Tully will always deliver and it may be time for Tully to drop the TV title.
I love Adonis. Leave it to him to get Barbarian over without Barb ever having to say a word. Adonis will be flying for Barbarian at Super Cade.
When me and my brother would wrestle in the living room as kids, Barry O was always the job guy I either pretended to be or beat up. Good to see his legacy continue on in the Universe. I can’t stress enough how excited I am that Martel is where he is in our 1986. It doesn’t seem like he’ll stay on top for much longer but I wouldn’t be mad if he did.
A couple lines to writeup a Bad News match seems right. Bad News makes mean face. Kills opponent. Will kill again.
Do we have to wait until Super Cade to get Dino’s partner?
You pretty much had a Battle Royal main event this week’s episode. Even though Shiro is in a stable he seemed like the odd man out and the perfect guy to take the fall. He’ll be joining the rest of the Japanese guys we fail to book strong back in Japan shortly.

3/22/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/11/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NYWelcome to GCW Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were on hand as usual to talk about our fantastic show as we make our way to Super Cade II! On today's program we will see Adrian Adonis in action, the Intercontinental champion is here, the most sparkly tag team in wrestling will be here, and our feature match will pit "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan against "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson of the Heenan Family! But first to the ring where the Rougeau Brothers are ready to go! Take it away, Howard Finkel! MATCH #1 The Rougeau Brothers vs. Mike Sharpe/Joe MirtoJacques & Raymond gave an insert promo during their opening match victory on Superstars, speaking to the challenge of Dino Bravo. Jacques said he respects his countryman's history as a tag team competitor, but if he thought they were worried about his mystery partner, he was mistaken. Raymond made sure to add that after they beat Bravo and his partner at Super Cade, his brother and he were going to see all of the sights of Los Angeles. The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) defeated Mike Sharpe and Joe Mirto when J. Rougeau pinned Mirto after a spinebuster slam in 0:03:04. Rating: 3/4*
MATCH #2 "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Nelson VeilleuxAdonis had fun with his opponent today, beating him in quick fashion and putting lipstick on him when the match was over. Monsoon mentioned that Adonis better enjoy these antics now, because he didn't think The Barbarian was going to go for it. Niemiller wasn't so certain, saying that The Barbarian would look good in lipstick, which got a hearty, "Will you be serious!?" from the Gorilla. Adrian Adonis pinned Nelson Veilleux after a DDT in 0:01:23. Rating: -1/2*
KING KONG BUNDY IS IN TRAININGWe had a video of an otherwise empty building with a wrestling ring in it. Outside the ring was Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, and inside the ring was the GCW World champion King Kong Bundy, along with three enhancement talents. Heenan said that normally he wouldn't let the morons at home catch a glimpse of one of his men training, but he wanted the whole world, and especially Rick Martel, to see what Bundy was capable of. As you would expect, Bundy absolutely destroyed all 3 men, yelling threats toward Martel as he did it. Martel will never quit and will fight until he can't fight anymore, but being in the ring with a monster like Bundy, in a steel cage no less, may be more than he can overcome. MATCH #3 NON-TITLE MATCH Ted DiBiase (Intercontinental champion) vs. Ivan MacDonaldTed DiBiase looked sharp in action today, picking up the win with the Cobra Clutch. The Intercontinental champion goes into Super Cade preparing for the battle of his life against the hoodlum from Harlem, Bad News Brown. Niemiller made mention that DiBiase better be ready to take a beating, because that's exactly what Brown is bringing to Los Angeles. Ted DiBiase defeated Ivan MacDonald when MacDonald passed out in the Cobra Clutch in 0:03:36. Rating: * 1/4
MATCH #4 The Electric Dream Machine (w/ Precious) vs. Ron Shaw/Rusty BrooksThe EDM were sparkly and they were victorious. But mostly sparkly. The Electric Dream Machine (Jimmy Garvin and Steve Regal) defeated Ron Shaw and Rusty Brooks when J. Garvin pinned Brooks with the DDT in 0:00:50. Rating: -3/4*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUNDOkerlund did his thing by running down the 9 announced matches for Super Cade II on April 7 in Los Angeles. Nothing new to report on the show, but Okerlund did say there were still rumblings of adding 1 or 2 more matches to the already stacked show. MATCH #5 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan is looking to make 2016 a breakout year. After having an unexpected yet brief reign as 1/2 of the World Tag Team champions, Duggan is now back on his own, and would really be tested in our feature matchup against Arn Anderson. Talk about your contrasting styles. Anderson is about as technically sound as they come. If the Enforcer can get ahold of one of your body parts, you may be leaving the ring on a stretcher. Duggan, on the other hand, will just throw punches until one knocks you out. It was an interesting contest that became more heated as it went on. Eventually the fight got out of control, the two men spilled outside, and were counted out while they were trying to beat the tar out of each other. Arn Anderson and Jim Duggan battled to a double countout in 0:06:59. Rating: ** 1/4Monsoon had to actually wrap up the show and preview next week's Superstars while Duggan & Anderson were still brawling (Niemiller had already run away at that point, because, that's his way). Next week's Superstars will be a very special episode as we will have not one, not two, but THREE feature matches! The Rock 'N Roll Express meet The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff, in a preview of Super Cade, Hawk of the Road Warriors meets Bret "Hitman" Hart of the Hart Foundation, and the Television Title will be on the line as Tully Blanchard puts the gold up against Chavo Guerrero! UPCOMING EVENTS

Rougeaus might want to think about visiting the L.A. sights BEFORE wrestling Dino and his mystery partner just in case Bravo and his partner decide to break them in half.
Barbarian and Adonis is so intriguing. Barbarian already wears makeup though, right? We just call it face paint.
Simple but effective promo for Bundy.
LA is a long way from Harlem but Brown will bring it with him. That’s going to be a fight!
Ha! 50 seconds of a match but at least 5 minutes of sparkles.
Something tells me things are just getting started between Double A and Duggan.
Super Cade truly is stacked. I don’t envy you having to write up 9 matches already. It’s going to be hard to fit so many feature matches into a 3 hour event but the show will be awesome!

3/29/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/11/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NYGorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller welcomed us to a big time edition of GCW Superstars! Monsoon was happy to announce there would be three huge featured match today, including one for the Television Title! Niemiller mentioned that Tully Blanchard would be leaving the show how he entered, as the TV champion, whether Chavo Guerrero liked it or not. Monsoon went on to mention the Rock 'N Roll Express meeting The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff. Niemiller said to watch that match closely, because it will be a small preview of what Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen are going to do to the RnR Express at Super Cade. And finally, Hawk of the Road Warriors will meet Bret Hart of the Hart Foundation 1-on-1. Niemiller said that the superior wrestling skill of the Hitman was going to expose how lost Hawk is without his partner. Monsoon replied only time would tell. He added that The Barbarian was here, as was former World champion Bob Backlund! He then threw it to Howard Finkel is the ring for our first match. MATCH #1 TELEVISION TITLE MATCH Tully Blanchard (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Chavo Guerrero (w/ Dos Caras)Bobby Heenan jumped on commentary early on in this match and let everyone know how insane it was that Blanchard had to defend the Television Title this close to Super Cade, yelling something about a conspiracy. Chavo Guerrero didn't care about a conspiracy - he just wanted to win the TV Title. Blanchard looked very much out of it, seemingly flustered over having to defend his title. Chavo was taking full advantage, using his lucha style to keep Blanchard off balance. That is, until ARN ANDERSON caused a distraction at ringside, as he has done so many times before. This allowed Blanchard to hit the Slingshot Suplex, get the 1-2-3, and remain the Television champion. Tully Blanchard pinned Chavo Guerrero with the Slingshot Suplex in 0:08:03. Rating: ** 1/2 (Tully Blanchard retained the GCW Television Title.)
MATCH #2 The Barbarian vs. Jim YoungA brief clip of "Adorable" Adrian Adonis and Jimmy Hart in the back watching The Barbarian come to the ring was shown. Niemiller mentioned how confident they looked in their ability to hand The Barbarian his first defeat at Super Cade. Then the match happened, where Barbarian decimated poor Jim Young. The camera cut back to Adonis & Hart, who now looked terrified. Monsoon laughed that they didn't look confident anymore. The Barbarian pinned Jim Young after an elbowdrop in 0:01:36. Rating: -3/4*
KOKO B. WARE IS READY FOR HIS MATCH NEXT WEEKLord Alfred Hayes had a special interview with Koko B. Ware, asking him about his match next week on Superstars against Big John Studd. Koko said he was excited for the opportunity. Hayes asked if he was worried about the size and strength of Studd. Koko said of course he was worried, but he certainly wasn't scared. Koko said he knew he had an uphill battle, but he had been fighting uphill battles his entire life. Koko promised he would be ready. MATCH #3 The Rock 'N Roll Express vs. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Freddie Blassie)The Rock 'N Roll Express kept their wave of momentum going leading into their epic clash against the Unholy Alliance at Super Cade with a good win over The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff. Monsoon commented that Morton & Gibson showed that they could contend with a team with a big strength and size advantage. Niemiller said it was impressive, but noted that nobody is as scary in that ring as Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen. The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik) when R. Morton pinned Volkoff after a flying cross body press in 0:04:16. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #4 Bob Backlund vs. Yvon LaverdueThe former World champion made quick work of Yvon Laverdue in this one. Backlund does not have a match for Super Cade II, and the rumor going around the locker room is that he is not happy about it. Bob Backlund made Yvon Laverdue submit to the Crossface Chickenwing in 0:02:53. Rating: * 1/2LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUNDSuper Cade II is now set! With 9 days to go, we have a full card as one more match was announced officially by "Mean" Gene today. After that double countout brawl we had last week, President Jack Tunney has decided to let "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan & "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson go at it one more time in Los Angeles. Okerlund ran down the rest of the card, and said next week on the LER, he would have a very special interview with the one and only ELVIRA! MATCH #5 Hawk (w/ Animal & Paul Ellering) vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart (w/ Jim Neidhart & Jimmy Hart)We don't get to see a lot of these two in singles action, but our final contest of the day acted as a preview of their tag match in 9 days with Hawk taking on Bret Hart. Hawk dominated the early portion as the Road Warriors always come out fast and hard. The Hitman managed to survive the opening onslaught and go to work on Hawk's left knee, trying to keep the much bigger man on the mat. Hart's technical expertise worked to keep Hawk grounded like no one has before, and Hawk showed that he has some issues fighting from the ground. However, it's hard to combat raw power, and that's what Hawk has in spades. Hawk fought back enough to hit the Flying Clothesline to pull out the victory, a major stepping stone going into Hawk pinned Bret Hart with the Flying Clothesline in 0:07:16. Rating: *** 1/4Next week, the final Superstars before Super Cade II! Wahoo McDaniel, Dino Bravo, and Shiro Koshinaka will all be here. Plus, Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen take on Corporal Kirchner & Junkyard Dog in a non-title match, and Koko B. Ware meets Big John Studd! Not only that, but Jesse Ventura will have a very special interview with the #1 contender, Rick Martel! Goodbye, everybody! This is looking like one hell of a Superstars actually.
Dos Caras couldn’t be bothered to do something about Arn? Chavo may have just lost his chance at being on the Super Cade card altogether.
The Barbarian is going to be a fun project of yours to follow. He’s another guy that is quite a force for a long time in the future. Adonis is SO good for stuff like this.
It might be a short-lived stay in GCW for Koko after next week.
The RnR/Unholy Alliance feud possibly has the most heat of all the matches on Super Cade. They’re going to paint the LA Sports Arena red.
Yeah! What’s the deal with leaving Backlund off the card?! He’s a god damn cornerstone of GCW!
Duggan vs. Arn is a match I’d pay to see over and over. I met Elvira a few years ago at some horror convention. Somehow, at 126 years old, she was still hot.
Even back in 1986 Bret Hart bumped around like no one else and always made his opponents, especially the bigger guys, look awesome. Hawk vs. Bret singles is a main event anywhere, anytime. In fact, since Shawn Michaels is WWA for life, make Animal your Marty Jannetty and push Hawk to the moon.

4/5/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/11/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NYIt's the final Superstars before Super Cade II, and you could feel the energy in the air! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were on hand to run down today's show, which will see Wahoo McDaniel in action, as well as Shiro Koshinaka. Niemiller said that the World Tag Team champs will be here too taking on Corporal Kirchner & Junkyard Dog in a non-title match, mentioning how unfair it was that they would have to wrestle but the Rock 'N Roll Express wouldn't. Monsoon discounted the conspiracy theory as silliness. He then mentioned our featured match would be Koko B. Ware trying to climb the mountain that is Big John Studd! And we will also have Jesse "The Body" Ventura conducting a special sitdown interview with the #1 contender to the World Title, Rick Martel! Niemiller said the people at home might want to record that interview, because it would be the last time Martel would ever speak because King Kong Bundy will make him leave Los Angeles with his mouth wired shut. A "would you be serious!?" led us into our first match. MATCH #1 "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Andre MaloWhile Dino Bravo was decimating his opponent in the ring, Jimmy Hart's moniker of "The Mouth of the South" was evident as he was talking at Monsoon & Niemiller the entire time. He was basically saying that on Monday you would all bear witness to the birth of the greatest tag team in wrestling history, and the Rougeaus are just the first victims. Dino Bravo pinned Andre Malo with the Side Suplex in 0:01:24. Rating: DUD
BARRY WINDHAM IS READY FOR SUPER CADEWe cut to the backstage area where Lord Alfred Hayes was with Barry Windham, the top contender for the Television Title. Hayes asked Windham how he was feeling going into his title match against Tully Blanchard at Super Cade II. Windham said this was the biggest match of his career. Windham said that Blanchard had been making excuses about losing to him in the tag match recently, and that after Monday, there would be no excuses. Windham would be the new Television champion. MATCH #2 "Chief" Wahoo McDaniel vs. Bob BradleyWahoo keeps chugging along as the veteran picks up a win on Superstars. Wahoo McDaniel defeated Bob Bradley when Bradley passed out in the Indian Deathlock in 0:02:29. Rating: 3/4*MATCH #3 Non-Title Match Sgt. Slaughter/Stan "The Lariat" Hansen (World Tag Team champions) vs. Corporal Kirchner/Junkyard DogSlaughter & Hansen were furious that they had to take on a match against Kirchner & JYD this close to Super Cade, and that didn't bode well for their opponents. Kirchner & JYD have a a big match ahead of them as well, being a part of the Flag Match, but that didn't mean they were here to fight. Kirchner & JYD brought it to the Unholy Alliance, but they just didn't have the experience as a team to pick up the win. JYD got caught delivering mounted punches in the corner on Hansen, who countered it into a huge power bomb for the 1-2-3. Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen defeated Corporal Kirchner and Junkyard Dog when Hansen pinned JYD after a power bomb in 0:06:21. Rating: ** 1/2Post-match, Niemiller said this was the worst thing that could have happened for the Rock 'N Roll Express. Slaughter & Hansen are bad enough as is, but when they're angry? Forget about it. Monsoon said not to count out Morton & Gibson, as they have more heart than any team in GCW. MATCH #4 "The Japanese Assassin" Shiro Koshinaka (w/ Freddie Blassie) vs. Ricky HunterThe Japanese Assassin made quick work out of Ricky Hunter today. Shiro Koshinaka pinned Ricky Hunter after a waistlock suplex in 0:00:41. Rating: 1/2*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUNDNot a lot of new information on the Live Event Report, as being only 2 days away from Super Cade II, we are all set. Ten big matches, 3 big celebrities, surely a ton of surprises. That equals an excited Mean Gene. One of those celebrities was interview by Okerlund during this segment, that being the one and only Elvira. Elvira said she was excited to go to Super Cade and flirted with Mean Gene, who responded as awkwardly as one would expect. MATCH #5 Koko B. Ware vs. Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan)Our feature matchup was definitely lopsided on paper. Big John Studd has had his way with just about everyone he's come across in GCW, but that didn't mean his much smaller opponent, Koko B. Ware, was going to be intimidated. Koko doesn't back away from a fight, no matter how big the challenge is. Studd could break Koko in half, but he'd have to catch him first, and Koko wasn't going to make it easy. Koko weaved in and out, catching Studd with punches and dropkicks, trying to get the big man off his feet. He almost got him staggered as he went to the top rope. He dove off for a crossbody press, but Studd caught him. Studd hit the Backbreaker and that was the end of this one. Big John Studd pinned Koko B. Ware with the Backbreaker in 0:01:51. Rating: * 1/2A valiant effort by Koko B. Ware was going to turn into a bad deal as Studd was looking to make an example out of him. Studd lifted Koko up for another Backbreaker, but we all got a shock. ANDRE THE GIANT was walking down the aisle! We haven't seen Andre in months and weren't expecting to see him before Super Cade II, but he was here on Superstars! No one looked more shocked than Big John Studd, who looked like he saw a ghost. Studd let go of Koko and backed out of the ring as Andre entered. The live action portion of the show came to a close with Andre pointing at Studd & Bobby Heenan who were backing up the aisle to the back. SPECIAL SITDOWN INTERVIEW W/ RICK MARTELAs we closed out the show, we got to a video of Jesse "The Body" Ventura conducting a very special interview with Rick Martel. Ventura was all but insulting Martel in his questions, essentially asking Martel how he thinks he has a chance in hell at beating King Kong Bundy in a steel cage at Super Cade. Martel said that on paper, Bundy should wipe the floor with him. "He's big, he's strong, and he's mean." Martel also said that with Bobby Heenan at ringside, Bundy is a nearly unstoppable monster. But he told Ventura that nobody is unstoppable. Martel brought up how he almost had his career ended when he broke is neck a couple of years back. He said that doctors told him he should retire right then and there or he could end up paralyzed. "But I've never been one to back away from a challenge." Martel said that wrestling doesn't take place on paper. He said he has more heart, more passion, and more desire than any wrestler on the planet, and especially more than King Kong Bundy. Martel finished by saying he was sure he was going to take a beating on Monday, but he would be walking out as the new World Heavyweight champion. UPCOMING EVENTS

That opening banter might be your best yet. Or maybe I’m just super pumped to get to Super Cade.
Nothing like a great suprised going into a major event. If I thought hard enough about it I might be able to make an educated guess on Bravo’s partner is but I prefer they mystery.
I think Super Cade is Windham’s time. Tully has been the Champion for a long time and him chasing might be the draw now.
Wahoo chugging like an old railcar. It’s almost time to reflect on his Universe career.
Hansen powerbombing JYD would be a sight to behold! I’m shocked how much I’m looking forward to a RnR Express match.
Ricky Hunter? More like Ricky Hunted! Amiright?!
Okerlund with the Live Event Report and I see ZERO updates about Backlund! There’s like one spot left on the card and there’s no way he’s Dino’s partner. I can’t imagine a show this historical doesn’t have Backlund on it.
Koko wasn’t entirely buried which I expected. But Studd needed to make this look easy and he did. He’s going against a giant at Super Cade so he can’t be struggling in a match against a guy that is 1/4 the size of him.
Classic Ventura just digging at the babyface. I admittedly had no idea SC was taking place on a Monday night. Martel is so over. I’m looking at this lineup and to be the top babyface right now is saying something. Martel’s legacy could be riding on this match. Bundy’s, too, for that matter. Let’s get to it!

4/7/86 - Super Cade II - Los Angeles, CA
The Los Angeles Sports Arena was completely sold out as people clamored to get the hottest ticket in town, and that was for the pay-per-view spectacular, Super Cade II! Gorilla Monsoon was joined by Jesse "The Body" Ventura at ringside for what promised to be an epic night of wrestling, perhaps the biggest one in history! After hyping the card, Monsoon sent it to the ring where the incomparable RAY CHARLES gave a stirring rendition of "America, the Beautiful." After that, the intro video showed and it was sent to the ring and Howard Finkel for our first match!
MATCH #1 TELEVISION TITLE MATCH Tully Blanchard (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Barry Windham
The crowd was on fire for our first match, and they got a hell of a wrestling match for the Television Title with Tully Blanchard defending the gold against Barry Windham, a man who has pinned him in a tag team match recently. Blanchard got under the skin of the loud Los Angeles crowd with his stalling tactics early in the contest. The tactics worked well though as they got Windham quite frustrated to where he made a mistake. Windham went outside to chase after Blanchard, and it got him sent hard into the guardrail when Blanchard grabbed his tights and pulled him into it. From there, Blanchard methodically worked Windham over, taking time in between to play to the crowd. Windham would get in his shots, but Blanchard found a way to cut him off at the pass every time. That was until Blanchard took way too much time on the top rope before attempting a kneedrop. Blanchard missed, and Windham went into offensive mode. As he was bouncing Tully around the ring like a basketball, all signs were pointing to a brand new TV champion. Blanchard again tried to take a powder to the floor, but Windham went after him and bodyslammed him on the concrete. Windham rolled Tully in as Bobby Heenan jumped on the far side of the ring apron to yell at referee Joey Marella to disqualify Windham. As Windham was trying to get back in the ring, ARN ANDERSON ran down and clipped Windham's knee! Windham howled in pain while the Enforcer picked him up and violently wrapped his leg around the ringpost before tossing him back in the ring. Blanchard hit the Slingshot Suplex and once again, stolen a win to retain the TV Title.
Tully Blanchard pinned Barry Windham with the Slingshot Suplex in 0:16:53. Rating: *** 3/4 (Tully Blanchard retained the GCW Television Title.)
Windham had been screwed again, but the worst was to come for him. Blanchard was still apparently smarting over Windham pinning him in that tag match, so he & Anderson wanted to make an example out of him. As Heenan barked orders, Anderson held Windham's leg prone while Blanchard grabbed a chair and brought it down on his injured knee over and over. Blanchard had to have hit his knee at least 10 times before eventually officials ran out to break it up. Monsoon was outraged over what happened as Windham was being stretchered out. Ventura said that it was unfortunate, but this is what happens when you mess with the Heenan Family, something Rick Martel should take note of for later. Monsoon was appalled over Ventura's comments.
MATCH #2 The Barbarian vs. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
For our second match, Elvira joined Monsoon & Ventura on commentary. Her contributions included flirting with Jesse and repeatedly stating how she is going to take makeup tips from Adrian Adonis. As far as the match itself, Adonis was a little more serious than he usually is, knowing that when you're in there with The Barbarian, you better take it seriously or you're going to get your head kicked off. Unfortunately for Adonis, even wrestling with intent didn't stop him from getting his head kicked off. Barbarian hit a mafia kick and then the Diving Headbutt to take a big win at Super Cade.
The Barbarian pinned Adrian Adonis with the Diving Headbutt in 0:06:44. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #3 FLAG MATCH Corporal Kirchner/Junkyard Dog/"The Birdman" Koko B. Ware vs. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff/"The Japanese Assassin" Shiro Koshinaka (w/ Freddie Blassie)
Two major takeaways from this match - Koko B. Ware debuted a new mascot in the form of Frankie the Parrot, and good old-fashioned American pride was at a fevered pitched in this Flag Match. The Foreign Legion used every dirty tactic in the book to have the chance to wave their respective countries' flags high, but Kirchner, Koko, & JYD were not to be denied. Koko would catch Shiro Koshinaka with a swinging neckbreaker, Kirchner & JYD would cut off Volkoff & Iron Sheik, and this match was in the books.
[FLAG MATCH]: Corporal Kirchner, Junkyard Dog and Koko B. Ware defeated The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff, Shiro Koshinaka and The Iron Sheik) when K. B. Ware pinned Koshinaka after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:07:04. Rating: * 1/4
After the match, Kirchner led the charge as he waved Old Glory high as Koko B. Ware & Junkyard Dog celebrated along with the "USA!" chanting crowd.
GENE OKERLUND GIVES AN UPDATE ON BARRY WINDHAM
Mean Gene checked in with a report on the condition of Barry Windham. Okerlund was standing outside the trainer's room where you could hear Windham screaming in pain in the background. Okerlund said he had spoken to the doctors and they said that Windham's knee is seriously injured, but they won't know for sure the extent of the injury until he is taken to the hospital for further tests. At this point, TULLY BLANCHARD & ARN ANDERSON ran into the scene, bursting open the door and barging in. Though they didn't physically attack Windham, they did make certain to taunt him with more insults. Such disgusting individuals.
MATCH #4 The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart)
The Hart Foundation have been thorns in the side of the Road Warriors since Hawk & Animal debuted in GCW. Even though it was by disqualification, Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart can say they handed the Warriors their first loss. Unfortunately for the Hart Foundation, that pissed Hawk & Animal off. It looked like the plan was to make the Road Warriors lose their cool and get DQ'ed again. Well, they got it half right. They did piss Hawk & Animal off, but only enough to get a worse beating. It was a solid match, but Neidhart got caught in the Doomsday Device and this one was over.
The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) defeated The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) when Hawk pinned Neidhart after the Doomsday Device in 0:09:49. Rating: ** 3/4
MATCH #5 INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH Ted DiBiase (c) vs. Bad News Brown
Sometimes matches have big elaborate back stories. And sometimes, two guys just plain don't like each other and want to fight. This match was the latter. Ted DiBiase has shown that he will fight and claw and scratch to every match in order to keep the Intercontinental Title, and he would need that in spades against Bad News Brown, who may just be the baddest streetfighter on the planet. DiBiase used his technical wrestling skill to keep Brown at a distance and off his game early, but once Bad News was able to get in what amounted to a rabbit punch to the throat, this one became a knock down drag out fight. DiBiase was doing everything in his power just to survive, but Brown was beating the holy living hell out of DiBiase. There was a part in this match where you got the feeling that some DiBiase fans were begging him to stay down just so the beating would stop. But that is not in DiBiase's blood. DiBiase absolutely refused to stay down no matter what Brown tried. Once DiBiase got busted open, the sight of his own blood seemed to fire him up. He almost became impervious to pain and started firing back. Bad News almost looked like he was retreating somewhat, which is shocking for him. DiBiase was a man possessed though as he would get the Cobra Clutch on and secure a successful title defense in an epic performance.
Ted DiBiase made Bad News Brown submit to the Cobra Clutch in 0:14:12. Rating: *** 1/4 (Ted DiBiase retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)
MATCH #6 Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan)
We did get to see an Andre the Giant appearance on Superstars this past Saturday, the first time we had seen him in months, but there were still a lot of questions about how he would fare in his first official match since returning from injury. This was his first match back, and he looked as good as ever. Studd is used to being able to bully and overwhelm his opponents, but there is no one bigger than the Eighth Wonder of the World. Studd tried to assert his will on Andre, but Andre shrugged him off. It was when Andre picked Studd up for a bodyslam when Bobby Heenan had seen enough, running in and hitting Andre in the back with a forearm. It was generally ineffective, but it did cause a disqualification.
Andre the Giant defeated Big John Studd by disqualification in 0:05:20. Rating: 1/2*
Heenan looked like a man who will need a fresh pair of shorts when Andre locked eyes with him. The Brain begged off as Andre stalked him. Studd caught Andre from behind, but Andre quickly turned the tables by sending Studd to the floor. This one looks to be far from over.
A HUGE RETURNING SUPERSTAR IS INTRODUCED TO THE CROWD
Right before our next match, Howard Finkel gave a special introduction to a man who is returning to GCW after a hiatus from the company. Finkel introduced with great pleasure the return of RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT! Steamboat received a great ovation as he came out and waved to the crowd. Monsoon talked about how great it was to see the Dragon back in GCW. Ventura was less than impressed, saying Steamboat took his ball and went home once, and that it's only a matter of time before it happens again. Monsoon gave a "Will you be serious!?" before we went to our next match.
MATCH #7 The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Power Company (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Dino Bravo has taken umbrage with the Rougeau Brothers, saying that they have been embarrassing his great homeland of Canada. Bravo is often referred to as the greatest tag team wrestler in GCW history, and he wanted to prove that by saying he'd find a new partner and humble the Rougeaus. There was a lot of speculation over who the new partner would be, and it turned out to be a man who might be as strong if not stronger than Bravo himself, the Mighty Hercules! I don't think anyone expected this. There may not be a stronger tag team in the history of pro wrestling, and they definitely showcased their power. Jacques & Raymond did what they could to counter the power with their speed and some mat wrestling, but the raw power of Bravo & Hercules was too much. Bravo hit Raymond with the Side Suplex and this match was in the books.
The Power Company (Dino Bravo and Hercules) defeated The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) when Bravo pinned R. Rougeau with the Side Suplex in 0:08:08. Rating: ***
Ventura was highly impressed with this new team, saying that with their strength and the brains of Jimmy Hart, this could be a most formidable tag team. Monsoon hated to do it, but he had to agree, saying the Power Company is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the GCW tag team division.
MATCH #8 WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH Sgt. Slaughter/Stan "The Lariat" Hansen (c) vs. The Rock 'N Roll Express
This was a match for the ages. The journey of Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson to even get to this point is a great story in and of itself, but it remained to be seen if they could get the fairy tale ending by dethroning perhaps the most dominant tag team in wrestling history, Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen. Regardless of end result, everyone knew that the Rock 'N Roll Express were going to be on the receiving end of a ridiculous beating, and that was the story for much of this match. Especially poor Ricky Morton. Morton was kept in the ring for a large part of the beating, but to his credit, as Ventura put it, he was either too tough or too stupid to stay down. Morton & Gibson kept finding a way to stay alive, and in the process, got in enough high-flying moves to wear the Unholy Alliance down.
Despite having guts in spades, it did look like time was going to run out on the Express' luck. Slaughter & Hansen were just laying into them, but their inability to put the challengers away was clearly frustrating them. The atmosphere in the building was electric as the fans tried to will the RnR to victory. Their opportunity came when Slaughter tagged Hansen in and held Gibson open. Hansen hit the ropes and went to take Gibson out with the Lariat, but Gibson slipped away and Hansen nearly decapitated Slaughter instead! Hansen checked on his partner only for Gibson to catch him in the nose with a dropkick, staggering the former World champ. Gibson dove and made the tag to Morton, who jumped to the top rope, came off with a flying cross body press, and managed to hold down a stunned Hansen long enough to win the titles!
The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen when R. Morton pinned Hansen after a flying cross body press in 0:31:19. Rating: **** 1/4 (The Rock 'N Roll Express won the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)
This was nothing short of a miracle as the arena exploded in cheers. The cheers were cut off though as Hansen was quickly up and leveled Morton with the Lariat. Slaughter was back up and he snatched one of the World Tag Team Titles away from referee Danny Davis. Slaughter had every intention in the world of taking Gibson's head off with it, but he never got the chance because THE ROAD WARRIORS sprinted to the ring! Hawk tackled Slaughter to the mat and peppered him with punches as Animal came flying at Hansen with a flying shoulderblock that sent him to the outside. Hawk & Animal shot Slaughter into the ropes and hit him with a huge double backdrop. Hansen reached in and pulled Slaughter to safety as the former champs retreated to the back. Hawk & Animal helped Morton & Gibson up and presented them with the tag team titles.
MATCH #9 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)
Jim Duggan has been building a lot of momentum in recent months, and may just be the breakout star of 1986. He had a tough test ahead of him tonight in Arn Anderson. The Enforcer of the Heenan Family jumped Duggan from behind before the bell rang, trying to get the early advantage. Anderson knew he wouldn't be able to go blow-for-blow with Hacksaw, so he was trying to get every edge he could. Duggan weathered that storm though, and once he got a chance to start throwing bombs, Anderson was in trouble. Hacksaw rocked Anderson's jaw with the Three Point Stance and picked up a big win at Super Cade II.
Jim Duggan pinned Arn Anderson with the Three Point Stance in 0:05:50. Rating: ***
KING KONG BUNDY AND RICK MARTEL ARE READY
Before our main event, we got a video package highlighting Rick Martel's journey to getting this World Heavyweight Title opportunity. It highlighted his losing any shot at title matches when he interfered in a match to save his good friend Bob Backlund against King Kong Bundy's assaults, and the campaign Martel spearheaded to get President Jack Tunney to overturn the decision on a lifetime title match ban. We then got words from both competitors, starting with Bundy with Bobby Heenan. The Brain put over how hard Martel has worked to get here, but said it would all be for nothing when Bundy put him out of wrestling for good. Martel's interview was next, and he said he fought too long and too hard to fail now. He said that he has always been at his best when the deck is stacked against him, and he would be walking out of Los Angeles as the new GCW World Heavyweight champion.
MATCH #10 WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE STEEL CAGE MATCH King Kong Bundy (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Rick Martel
The blue cage was put up, and the time for talking was over. A match months in the making. King Kong Bundy vs. Rick Martel for the World Title. TOMMY LASORDA served as the guest ring announcer, and he did a fantastic job helping get the fans fired up for this main event. Martel was clearly the crowd favorite, but once the door was locked and the bell rang, he had an uphill battle ahead of him. Martel wanted to stick and move, but within the confines of the cage, he only had so much space to keep distance. Bundy would eventually get his hands on him, and that meant bad news for the challenger. Bundy started systematically dismantling Martel, paying special attention to Martel's neck, which he has a well-known history of injuries to. Martel was doing everything in his power to fight back against Bundy, using the crowd's loud cheers to keep him going, but every time he'd get some momentum back, Bundy's size would come into play. Bundy wasn't even making any real attempts to leave the cage. Bobby Heenan was instructing him to eliminate Martel for good, and it was looking like that might just happen.
After a crushing powerslam, it looked like Bundy was finally going to make his way out the door to retain his title. But he took a lot of time jawing with the fans instead of just getting out of the ring. Martel mustered up all of his strength and caught Bundy in the back with a flying knee, sending Bundy face first into the cage! Not only that, but Bundy was busted open. Martel saw Bundy's blood and knew this was his chance. Martel unloaded on Bundy, peppering him with punches to open up that cut even further. Martel took Bundy's head and slammed it over and over again into the cage, and for the first time in a long, long time, Bundy looked completely vulnerable. Martel climbed to the top and jumped off with a clothesline, knocking Bundy off his feet. The crowd, however, was on its feet as Martel made his way toward the door. He had almost gotten there when we saw Heenan wildly waving from the back. On cue, out came BIG JOHN STUDD.
Studd went straight to the door, standing in the way so that Martel couldn't get out. Martel yelled for Studd to get out of the way, but Studd wasn't moving. Well, that is until we heard a commotion from the fans. It was RICKY STEAMBOAT, and he brought a chair with him! Studd is tough, but even he didn't want a chair upside the head, so he backed away as the Dragon held him at bay. Martel climbed through the ropes and started out the door, when the unthinkable happened. Steamboat turned and absolutely BLASTED Martel in the skull with the chair! The crowd was in stunned silence as Martel crumpled in the ring, and in a sight we thought we'd never see, Steamboat actually HUGGED Bobby Heenan. Bundy had gotten his bearings back and got himself to the door, climbed out, and dropped to the floor to successfully retain the World Title.
Cage Match: King Kong Bundy defeated Rick Martel by escaping the cage in 0:13:08. Rating: * (King Kong Bundy retained the GCW World Title.)
Monsoon kept saying, "Why, Ricky, why?" as Ventura talked about how brilliant the Brain was. They weren't done yet though as Bundy, Studd, & Steamboat all got back into the cage looking to finish Rick Martel off. The vultures were circling the downed Martel, when we heard something over the PA system. Ventura said, "Oh God no," as he realized the song he was hearing was that of… HULK HOGAN. Hulk Hogan is at Super Cade! The arena absolutely exploded as Hogan ran down to the ring and got into the cage. Studd went after Hogan first, but Hogan blocked his punched and returned fire, throwing Studd face first into the cage. As Studd rolled out, Steamboat ran at Hogan only to be sent high into the air with a backdrop. Hogan fired a couple of punches on the Dragon before throwing him out the door as well. This left us with an epic staredown between Hogan & Bundy. Bundy went to Hogan's eyes and leveled him with a clothesline. Bundy then hit the Hulkster with the Big Splash, but right as Bundy got up, Hogan got right up too! The decibel level in the Los Angeles Sports Arena was off the charts as Hogan spun Bundy around and cracked him with a right hand. Hogan hit a clothesline but Bundy didn't fall. He hit another one and the same result. That's when Hogan showed his immortal strength by lifting Bundy up and bodyslammed the 450-pound World champion! Bundy got himself out of the ring as Heenan was losing his mind at ringside. Hogan helped Martel up to his feet as they begged the Heenan Family to get back in the ring. The pay-per-view came to a close with Hulk Hogan & Rick Martel celebrating together in the ring. Even Tommy Lasorda & Elvira got in there to celebrate too. Thanks for joining us, everyone!
Card rating: ** 1/2
