OOOOOOH SHIIIIT!
Damn! Taking a shot at WWA in the first SENTENCE!?
My first prediction was wrong. Great booking putting Tully and Barry on first as they’ll hopefully set the pace for rest of the night. An absolute brutal beating at the end of the match. This keeps Windham from getting involved in Arn’s match later but moreso, what does this mean for Windham’s future?
I would have loved to see Adonis sell for Barbarian. He was SO good. This match went as expected.
Oh, Frankie is here! Not much longer before we get the music video for Piledriver! And no way were the Americans losing this match at Super Cade.
Jesus, Tully and Arn are animals. What are they trying to prove?
I think the Harts and the Road Warriors could have one of those feuds that defines this era. Time will tell though. The Road Warriors are Championship magnets so I’m assuming that’s where they’re headed next.
I knew I would LOVE Dibiase vs. Bad News, but I wouldn’t have guessed it would deliver like it did. Plus blood?! Awesome fight and Dibiase looks like a million dollars after it.
I thought Andre and Studd would be a one-off but I’m honestly glad it isn’t. I love reading how you book Andre because I know it can’t be easy. If the Universe mirrors real life in the next year, Andre is going be a major focal point going forward so I’m looking forward to following his trek.
Steamboat is back! And Ventura’s assessment is hilarious. Things are getting interesting.
Oh man! Are you as excited about The Power Company as I am?! Jimmy Hart as two great teams in his stable right now. And I’m salivating over a Power Company/Road Warriors feud.
Legit had goosebumps reading the Tag title match. I gave less than a shit about the RnRs when they came into GCW but I’ve become a fan of their struggle. I’m glad this one came off like this. They got a lot of time to tell the story, the rating for put them in the running for match of the year, and finish I think everyone wanted. Be proud of this match. Booking an angle as good as this and getting the satisfaction of a blowoff like this is so rewarding. And holy shit, the Road Warriors are taking it to the Unholy Alliance. I thought for a split second Slaughter and Hansen were going their seperate ways after the miscue but they’ve got to deal with Hawk & Animal next. No wonder you’re so excited about the coming year.
A little bit of comeuppance for Double A. As minor as the match may be this feels like a big win for Duggan. Perhaps Arn will start focusing on tags with Tully but man, your tag division is pretty stacked right now.
This video package certainly favors Martel. Feels like he’s taking home the gold.
Wait, what the hell just happened?! Steamboat TURNED!!!??! Talk about a miscarriage of justice! This match was so good! I was really pulling for Martel throughout. Now HOGAN is here!!!?? This is too much, Ryan! 1986 isn’t big enough for an event like this! Heenan isn’t the only one losing his mind.
The April 22nd show might as well be called Super Cade 2.5. Congrats my friend. THIS is a historic event.

Great Super Cade! I don't think anyone could have predicted a Ricky Steamboat heel turn. Epic arrival by Hogan. King Kong Bundy is a beast and I think this title reign will make him more famous in GCWverse history than he was in real life.

Thanks, Josh (even though I know you hate the Super Cade name, haha). I dunno if the Steamboat heel turn will work, but I'm excited to try. I've seen a few interviews with Flair talking about the only thing that held Steamboat back legacy wise is he never worked heel, so that planted the seed.

4/12/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/31/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were on hand for another edition of GCW Superstars, just 5 days removed from Super Cade II! Monsoon talked about what a momentous night it was, especially highlighting the GCW debut of HULK HOGAN! Niemiller said that yes, Hogan was here, but wanted to remind everyone that King Kong Bundy is still the World champion. Monsoon then went to go over tonight's show, where we will hear from Bundy and his manager Bobby Heenan. Also on the show, the new World Tag Team champions will be in action, as will Jim Duggan! The Road Warriors meet The Electric Dream Machine, and in a rematch from Super Cade, The Barbarian will go one-on-one with Adrian Adonis! But now let's go down to ringside and Howard Finkel for our first match!
MATCH #1 Bob Backlund vs. Jerry Adams
Bob Backlund is looking for a career resurgence, and wanted to kick that off on Superstars. Backlund may feel like his career needs a reboot, but his in-ring skills have never been in question. Backlund outclassed Jerry Adams en route to a solid double underhook suplex victory.
Bob Backlund pinned Jerry Adams after a double underhook suplex in 0:02:20. Rating: 3/4*
After the match, Backlund did an interview with Howard Finkel. Backlund said that his not being on the card for Super Cade II has lit a fire under him. He mentioned he will use it as motivation to reach even greater heights than he had before. At this point, he was unexpectedly joined in the ring by BAD NEWS BROWN. Brown tried to hijack the interview, saying that no one cares about Bob Backlund. He tried to talk about how he was upset about losing to Ted DiBiase at Super Cade when Backlund interrupted and told him this was his interview time. Brown brushed him off, but Backlund persisted. That's when Brown threw a punch and the fight was on! Backlund took Brown down with a double leg takedown, and the two exchanged punches until officials got them apart. Niemiller said that if Backlund wanted to reinvent himself, he could do it as a hospital patient after Brown got a hold of him. Monsoon gave a patented, "Would you be serious!?"
TULLY BLANCHARD DECLARES HIMSELF THE GREATEST TELEVISION CHAMPION IN HISTORY
Lord Alfred Hayes was standing by in the back with Television champion Tully Blanchard and his partner in crime, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson. Hayes asked Blanchard why he asked for this time. Blanchard said he wanted the interview time to remind everyone that he is officially the greatest TV champion in history. Hayes tried to interject that the title hasn't even existed that long all things considered, but Blanchard steamrolled saying that what he "singlehandedly" did to Barry Windham at Super Cade was proof. Hayes again tried to interject saying that Arn Anderson had a huge part in that, but Blanchard continued to let his ego go out on control. At this point he was stopped by KOKO B. WARE, who told Blanchard that what he and Anderson did at Super Cade was a disgrace. Blanchard laughed and asked Koko, What are you going to do about it? Challenge us to a tag match with your disgusting bird as a partner?" Koko laughed and said no, but he did talk to President Jack Tunney who granted him a TV Title shot in two weeks here on Superstars. Blanchard & Anderson threw a fit as Koko quite hilariously flapped his arms and "flew away."
MATCH #2 Non-Title Match The Rock 'N Roll Express (World Tag Team champions) vs. Johnny K-9/Joe Mirto
For the third time, Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson have been crowned the World Tag Team champions after doing the unthinkable and defeating Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen at Super Cade. Even after taking an immense amount of punishment, the Rock 'N Roll Express were riding high on Superstars, picking up an impressive win over Johnny K-9 & Joe Mirto. Now that they have regained the titles, we have to wonder what teams are going to step up to challenge them for the gold.
The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated Johnny K-9 and Joe Mirto when R. Morton pinned Mirto after a flying cross body press in 0:03:09. Rating: * 1/4
MATCH #3 The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Electric Dream Machine (w/ Precious)
The Road Warriors have made themselves new enemies after what happened at Super Cade when they prevented Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen from injuring the Rock 'N Roll Express after they lost the titles to them. During this match, we had an insert promo with Hawk, Animal, & their manager Paul Ellering. The gist of the interview was they were coming to Madison Square Garden looking for a fight. Unfortunately for Jimmy Garvin & Steve Regal, that meant they were on the tracks when the freight train was coming. It did not take long for Regal to be hit with the Doomsday Device and this one to be mercifully over.

BOBBY HEENAN BRAGS ABOUT SUPER CADE AND HAS WORDS FOR HULK HOGAN
As promised earlier in the show, we next heard from Bobby Heenan and the World champion King Kong Bundy. Heenan first put over how it is an amazing time for the Heenan Family. He talked about Tully Blanchard still being the Television champion. Heenan dropped some news and said next week on Superstars, he would unveil his newest protégé to the world. But he said most importantly, King Kong Bundy is still the World Heavyweight champion. Heenan in a backhanded way put over the heart of Rick Martel, but said that he's not called the Brain for nothing, and talked about how brilliant he was for getting RICKY STEAMBOAT into the Family. Heenan said Steamboat would explain his actions soon enough. Finally, Heenan addressed HULK HOGAN. The Brain said that Hogan made an enemy for life, and that Hulk's biggest regret will go down as having messed with the Heenan Family. He added that Hogan is in the big leagues now, and his time here would be short. Bundy chimed in and said he would squash Hogan like the bug that he is and send him back to Hollywood.
Back to ringside, Niemiller said he looked forward to seeing Bundy destroy Hulk Hogan. Monsoon said the chances of that happening were highly unlikely, but he did hear rumors that Rick Martel has been a man possessed after what that traitor Ricky Steamboat did to him. Niemiller brushed it off, saying Steamboat made the right choice in hitching his wagon to Bobby Heenan. Monsoon then broke the news that Hulk Hogan would be on Superstars next week in a very special sitdown interview with Jesse Ventura!
MATCH #4 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. Andre Malo
After getting a big win on Monday, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan kept the ball rolling with a good showing here today.
Jim Duggan pinned Andre Malo with the Three Point Stance in 0:02:09. Rating: DUD
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene was still giddy as he went over the events of Super Cade II on the Live Event Report. One of the biggest stories in GCW history took place with the debut of Hulk Hogan, who saved Rick Martel from King Kong Bundy & Ricky Steamboat after the cage match main event. We've been wanting to see the Hulkster in GCW for years to see how he performs against the best wrestlers in the world, and we are going to get it. We'll see him wrestle his debut match on April 22 at the most famous arena in the world. Hogan will team with Rick Martel & Andre the Giant to take on the Heenan Family contingent of World champion King Kong Bundy, Big John Studd, & traitor Ricky Steamboat, who also shocked the world by returning and joining forces with Bobby Heenan. Okerlund hyped the interview Jesse Ventura with Hogan next week on Superstars.
In addition, there are other matches announced for MSG. We already knew about the Road Warriors vs. the Unholy Alliance, but Okerlund had two more matches to tell us about. The first would be tag team rematch from Super Cade between the Rougeau Brothers and Dino Bravo & Hercules, collectively known as the Power Company. A video from the Rougeaus aired where they set they admittedly were surprised by the debut of Hercules, but there wouldn't be unprepared at MSG. In addition to that, the so far undefeated Barbarian will be in action against "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin of the Electric Dream Machine.
Before the segment ended, Okerlund had some breaking news. He said that on May 3, we would witness the return of Saturday Night Slam Masters! Not only that, but for the first time ever, the show would preempt Saturday Night Live on NBC! This is huge news for GCW, and so far, one huge match has already been signed. We will see Andre the Giant meet Big John Studd in a rematch of the giants! More matches will be announced soon, but what a night this should turn out to be!
MATCH #5 The Barbarian vs. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
The Barbarian has been all but unstoppable since coming to GCW, and in our feature match this week, we again showed how dominant he can be. Adrian Adonis wanted one more shot to take down this beast, but The Barbarian is seemingly impervious to pain. Adonis was all business leaving the theatrics in the back, but it still wasn't enough as Barbarian plowed through the Adorable One to win again.
The Barbarian pinned Adrian Adonis with the Diving Headbutt in 0:05:22. Rating: * 1/4
Be sure to join us next week on Superstars! We have a packed show lined up with Bad News Brown in action, the Intercontinental champion Ted DiBiase will be here, as well as Arn Anderson. Bobby Heenan will debut his new protégé, and our massive feature match will pit Rick Martel & Andre the Giant against King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd! And who can forget, for the first time we will hear from HULK HOGAN as he is interview by Jesse "the Body" Ventura! This is a show you won't want to miss!

This had better be the best episode of Superstars EVER.
Sad to say but Super Cade was so good I forgot about Backlund altogether. Backlund/Brown is an interesting pairing. They’ll definitely put on a physical match or two.
Tully sort of has a legit argument of being the greatest TV Champ. I wonder if Frankie will keep Arn at bay during the title match.
The RnRs aren’t short on challengers so I wouldn’t expect them to be twiddling their thumbs for long.
I seriously hope the Road Warriors and Slaughter/Hansen put up great ratings. Those matches are going to be awesome.
Heenan is bringing in another body?! The Heenan Family is starting to look unstoppable. Steamboat cutting a heel promo will be interesting.
Hogan + Ventura = TV Gold
Keep on chuggin, Duggan!
That main event for MSG is ridiculous! Feed Barbarian more!
“Impervious to pain” - a great Gorilla quote.
That’s one hell of a main event for next week’s Superstars too! Jesus you are loaded with legendary talent right now.

4/19/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/31/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Such an action packed edition of GCW Superstars we have on deck today! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller welcomed everyone to the show, and the big news today is of course hearing from Hulk Hogan, who will have a sit down interview with Jesse Ventura later on our show! Niemiller said if Hogan was smart, the interview would be announcing his retirement because once the Heenan Family got a hold of him, he's done. In wrestling action, Intercontinental champion Ted DiBiase is here, as will be Bad News Brown. Niemiller brought up what a big night it is for Bobby Heenan, who will have Arn Anderson going for him, as well as debuting his new protege. Monsoon also brought up the gigantic main event, which will pit Andre the Giant & Rick Martel against World champion King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd! Now to the ring and Howard Finkel!
MATCH #1 "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Sal Gee
Like was mentioned in the opening, Bobby Heenan did have a big day, starting with "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson competing. Anderson used this as a wrestling display, showcasing his in ring acumen. Poor Sal Gee was trying his best, but he was simply outclassed as Anderson got him with a backslide.
Arn Anderson pinned Sal Gee after a backslide in 0:03:32. Rating: * 1/4
A NEW SUPERSTAR IS COMING TO GCW
We went to a vignette for a new superstar coming to GCW by the name of HONKY TONK MAN. Honky Tonk Man was in full Elvis attire, down to the slicked down hair you couldn't move with a chisel. HTM put himself over as the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen, and said he couldn't wait to show the world how he could sing and dance. He said he would do that for everyone on May 3 at Saturday Night Slam Masters. After the video, Monsoon didn't know what to make of it, while Niemiller did one of the worst little dance moves anyone has ever seen while saying he was excited to see Honky Tonk Man on NBC.
MATCH #2 Non-Title Match Ted DiBiase (Intercontinental champion) vs. Terry Morgan
Ted DiBiase was a little worse for wear after the war he went through with Bad News Brown at Super Cade, but he was here to compete and that's exactly what he did with a quick victory over Terry Morgan. One has to wonder who the next man to step up to the plate to challenge for the Intercontinental Title will be.
Ted DiBiase defeated Terry Morgan when Morgan passed out in the Cobra Clutch in 0:02:23. Rating: *
BOBBY HEENAN UNVEILS HIS NEW PROTEGE
Bobby Heenan was back out again, and he had a huge smile on his face. The Brain said that when he is in a position of power like he is being the manager of the World and the Television champion, he can pick and choose the greatest talent in the world. Heenan said he has outdone himself this time. The Brain shook off the "Weasel" chants as he unveiled who he promised to be the future of Global Championship Wrestling, and someone who is undoubtedly destined to be a future World champion, a man who is simply "The Total Package"… LEX LUGER.
MATCH #3 "The Total Package" Lex Luger (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Mario Mancini
Heenan was all smiles as this physical specimen named Lex Luger came down. He certainly looked the part, but we had to see if he could wrestle the part. Mario Mancini didn't stand much of a chance against the power of Luger, who tossed him around before putting him down with a running forearm smash.
Lex Luger pinned Mario Mancini after the Running Forearm Smash in 0:01:20. Rating: *
Luger picked Mancini up after the match and threw him over the top to the outside. Luger struck a variety of poses as you could practically see Heenan counting his future money. As Luger and Heenan were set to leave, they were stopped by WAHOO MCDANIEL. McDaniel grabbed the mic from Finkel and told the Brain to slow down before crowning Luger the future. Wahoo admitted that Luger looks great, but it takes a lot more than a good look to make it in this business. Wahoo said he's been around a long time and has been through the wars, and he wanted to see what Luger was made of. He challenged him to a match at MSG. Luger laughed, made a few inappropriate age comments about Wahoo, and said it would be his pleasure to put that old fossil out to pasture. Wahoo just left with a smirk on his face.
MATCH #4 Bad News Brown vs. John Rizzo
During Bad News Brown's quick dismantling of John Rizzo, Bob Backlund cut an insert promo letting us know that if Brown wanted a fight, he would get it at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Monsoon said that match was one he was personally looking forward to.
Bad News Brown pinned John Rizzo with the Ghetto Blaster in 0:01:38. Rating: -3/4*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene was on the scene, and excited to tell everyone about the upcoming big events in GCW, starting with Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. As announced earlier, Bob Backlund vs. Bad News Brown and Wahoo McDaniel vs. Lex Luger have been made official, giving us six huge matches so far. The other addition to a show he was able to make was for Saturday Night Slam Masters on May 3 as Honky Tonk Man would be appearing live in his debut. We hope to have more on that card next week.
MATCH #5 Andre the Giant/Rick Martel vs. King Kong Bundy (World champion)/Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan)
There was a lot of emotion involved in our feature bout as Andre the Giant & Rick Martel met Big John Studd & World champion King Kong Bundy. It was going to be interesting to see how Martel would react coming off of essentially being jobbed out of the World Title at Super Cade by Ricky Steamboat's treacherous actions. Martel was fuming as he kept yelling toward Bobby Heenan that he wanted Steamboat's head. However, he needed to be focused because Bundy & Studd are as scary a tandem as there is. Heenan wisely informed his team to keep Martel in the ring at all costs, because you don't want to get Andre in there if you can help it. As Martel has made a habit of, he simply wouldn't stay down though despite the best efforts of Studd & the World champ. When Martel finally made some separation with a big dropkick that knocked Bundy a bit loopy, he was within an eyelash of tagging in Andre. Right before though, Studd came around and pulled Andre to the floor and the brawl was on. Martel saw his partner was gone, and turned around into Bundy charging him with the Avalanche. Bundy locked a chokehold on Martel, and when referee Tommy Young tried to get Bundy to stop, Bundy tossed Young to the floor, prompting the disqualification.
Andre the Giant and Rick Martel defeated The Heenan Family (Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy) when Martel defeated Bundy by disqualification in 0:10:19. Rating: DUD
That will most certainly result in a fine, but I don't think the Heenan Family cared. Andre ended up fending off Studd and getting back in the ring to club Bundy from behind, sending him to the floor in the process. Studd tried to get in the ring but Martel dropkicked him off the apron to end the wrestling portion of our program.
HULK HOGAN SITS DOWN W/ JESSE VENTURA
To close out the show, we got perhaps the most anticipated interview in GCW history as we got to hear for the first time from HULK HOGAN. Hogan sat down with Jesse "The Body" Ventura in an interview taped earlier this week. Ventura wasn't looking to be the most welcoming host, insisting that Hogan followed him here to show him up. Hogan assured him that wasn't the case. Hulk explained that the reason he was here is that the whole wrestling world knows that you aren't anybody until you make it in Global Championship Wrestling. Hogan brought up his past, saying he has had success in Japan, he has had success "down south," but he wanted to show the whole world that he could be the best where it truly matters - GCW. Ventura asked Hogan what gave him the right to just walk in her and interject himself into the business of the Heenan Family at Super Cade II. Hogan replied that he had been invited to the Los Angeles Sports Arena by President Jack Tunney to discuss some business. When Hogan saw what the Heenan Family was trying to do to Rick Martel, someone he said was a good man, he had to do what any noble man would do, and that's what's right. He said unlike that traitor Ricky Steamboat, Hogan did the right thing. Ventura said that's all well and good, but now he has to deal with an angry Heenan Family, most notably, the dominant World champion King Kong Bundy. Hogan said he took nothing away from Bundy. He was "one big, bad scary dude." But Hogan had an announcement. He said at Saturday Night Slam Masters, he will have his first singles match in GCW, and it will be challenging Bundy for the World Heavyweight Title. He said one way or another, he was taking the fight right to the Heenan Family and he'd see exactly what Bundy was made of.
Join us next week on Superstars where we will see the Rougeaus meet the Hart Foundation! The Power Company will be in action, and for the first time since his shocking return to GCW, Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat will be here to hopefully explain what he did at Super Cade. And in the main event, Tully Blanchard defends the Television Title against Koko B. Ware!

Ahhhh yeah. Keep moving with the momentum from Super Cade!
Double A has been a good hand for you but I feel like he really needs a good program. He’s got the ability and the promo to be a focal point but so far hasn’t been able to break from the pack.
It’s about time! Honky dabbled a bit in WWA and UPW but now he should really take off. Nothing like the debut of new talent to build some excitement (and writing motivation).
One immediately associates HTM with the IC title and you followed up Honky’s segment with who else but IC Champ Ted Dibiase. I don’t know if that was intentional but hey, Dibiase/HTM is money! Even if it isn’t soon, no chance HTM doesn’t gun for the IC Title the first chance he gets.
And now Luger!?! Brother, GCW is blowing up! It’s going to be really fun to see how you book him! And Wahoo is an excellent choice to break Luger in. MSG is going to be a long night for Lex.
Backlund vs. Bad News is going to be ugly but I live for dream matches like this!
You know, Martel and Steamboat could possibly have some of the matches that are talked about for decades. I can’t wait to see that feud unfold. You never like seeing a DUD, but that’s purely from a wrestling standpoint. This main event was an attraction and likely a sight to behold with this much mass in the ring. And the finish makes sense since no one here should really be taking any clean losses.
The segment with Hogan and Ventura was a great read actually. Kind of gave me goosebumps as I played it out in my head. I don’t see you hotshotting the World Title on Hogan as quick as SNSM but to be honest, the window on Hulkamania is closing and I don’t think it quite hit its peak “down south.” It’s inevitable he gets it but will May 3 be the day? He certainly wouldn’t be short on challengers as your heel side is stacked! The kids future is looking bright.

I love that the universe is back in business with regular cards again, and it seems I've haven't paid that much attention as of late. I can only echo the rest of the gang by saying that Super Cade was brilliant. Never saw the Steamboat turn coming. It feels weird, probably because he never played that role in real life. And now Hogan and Luger too? This is going to be a huge year for GCW.

4/22/86 - Madison Square Garden - New York, NY
MATCH #1 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. "The Japanese Assassin" Shiro Koshinaka
Since Freddie Blassie has officially left GCW after what happened at Super Cade II, Shiro Koshinaka has decided he will head back to his native Japan to continue his career there when his contractual obligations are up here. It was a tough fight on his hands at MSG as he took on "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Duggan may not be pretty in the ring, but the man is on fire and just keeps winning. Duggan hit the Three Point Stance and racked up another win.
Jim Duggan pinned Shiro Koshinaka with the Three Point Stance in 0:04:08. Rating: ** 1/2
MATCH #2 The Mexican Eagles vs. Tully Blanchard (Television champion)/"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)
Seeing how this was not a widespread television event, Tully Blanchard was not required to defend his TV Title. He was required to be in action here at Madison Square Garden though, teaming with Arn Anderson to take on the Mexican Eagles. Blanchard & Anderson have proven to be an enigma, because not only are they currently doing well in singles competition, but when they team up, they are a dangerous combination. Chavo Guerrero & Dos Caras didn't make it easy by any means, but Blanchard & Anderson won a competitive match when the Enforcer hit the Gourdbuster on Caras.
The Heenan Family (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) defeated The Mexican Eagles (Chavo Guerrero and Dos Caras) when Anderson pinned Dos Caras with the Gourdbuster in 0:10:21. Rating: ** 3/4
MATCH #3 "Chief" Wahoo McDaniel vs. "The Total Package" Lex Luger (w/ Bobby Heenan)
Wahoo McDaniel challenged Luger to this match after Luger's debut to see what the youngster was made of. Wahoo is a great veteran in this sport, and if you can impress him, you are the real deal. Lex Luger came out as cocky as he was on Superstars, almost spending as much time flexing as he did wrestling. However once the match really got going, Luger showed a grit that indicated that he just might have some fortitude. Wahoo lit him up with chops for awhile, but in the end, Luger hit a strong running forearm smash and took the win. After the match, Wahoo looked for a handshake from Luger, but the Total Package just scoffed and walked away while Bobby Heenan laughed it up.
Lex Luger pinned Wahoo McDaniel after the Running Forearm Smash in 0:05:06. Rating: DUD
MATCH #4 The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Power Company (w/ Jimmy Hart)
The Rougeau Brothers had more time to prepare now that they knew Dino Bravo's partner was going to be Hercules, but it didn't really help them much tonight in the Garden. Jacques & Raymond were absolutely the crowd's choice as the fans of GCW have really taken a shine to the perpetual tourists, but Jimmy Hart has put together a winning combination. Bravo is statistically the greatest tag team wrestler in GCW history, and perhaps the only man in GCW who can match Bravo's power is his partner Hercules. Hercules showcased that strength by getting Jacques Rougeau in the Horizontal Backbreaker for the win.
The Power Company (Dino Bravo and Hercules) defeated The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) when Hercules made J. Rougeau submit to the Horizontal Backbreaker in 0:04:30. Rating: *
MATCH #5 Intercontinental Title Match Ted DiBiase (c) vs. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Occasionally a match will surprise you with just how good it is, and that was the case here. Previously unannounced, Ted DiBiase went to President Jack Tunney and said he wanted to defend the Intercontinental Title tonight. It was determined that Adrian Adonis would be his opponent, and what a match this turned out to be. Adonis has been criticized, and possibly rightfully so, for caring more about his theatrics than his wrestling. Tonight though with a prize as big as the IC Title on the line, he brought it. If we've learned anything about DiBiase though, we loves a good fight. You can beat on DiBiase all night, and he finds a way to keep coming at you. Adonis did everything he could to keep DiBiase down, but he couldn't find that move to do it. DiBiase can also give as well as he receives, and we had ourselves a high impact fast paced contest. In the end, Adonis had DiBiase down in a small package, but DiBiase rolled it over and managed to get a 3 count. An unexpected gem here at MSG.
Ted DiBiase pinned Adrian Adonis after a small package in 0:17:49. Rating: **** 1/4 (Ted DiBiase retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)
MATCH #6 The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. Sgt. Slaughter/Stan "The Lariat" Hansen
A lot of folks were looking forward to this first time meeting between The Road Warriors & The Unholy Alliance, and it was exactly the kind of fight we hoped it would be. Referee Tommy Young was in trouble from the get go because neither team was going into this one just hoping to get a win. No, they were all hoping to get into a fight, and what a fight it was. There aren't many teams who can match power with Hawk & Animal, but Sgt. Slaughter & Stan Hansen can which led to this one being a bruiser of a brawl. Eventually, Animal lost his composure and grabbed a chair that was handed to him by Paul Ellering, whacking Hansen in the back with it to cause the DQ.
Sgt. Slaughter and Stan Hansen defeated The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) when Hansen defeated Animal by disqualification in 0:09:37. Rating: ** 1/4
Once the chair got broken out, another chair soon followed it, and we just had a donnybrook on our hands. A whole slew of referees, officials, and security personnel had to tear these men apart. We have learned that Animal & Stan Hansen will be meeting each other one-on-one on the May 3 edition of GCW Superstars.
MATCH #7 The Barbarian vs. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (w/ Precious/"Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal)
Jimmy Garvin was just the next obstacle in The Barbarian's way. Garvin came out with Precious and his tag team partner, "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal, but all of their smiles during the very sparkly ring entrance turned to a look of trepidation once the bell rang. Garvin did everything he could, but he couldn't even seem to stun The Barbarian. Regal jumped on the apron to get involved, but Barbarian took him out immediately with a mafia kick. Garvin charged but got hit with a powerslam. Barbarian followed up with the Diving Headbutt and this one was over.
The Barbarian pinned Jimmy Garvin with the Diving Headbutt in 0:04:48. Rating: *
After the match, Garvin and Regal got into a shoving match. Garvin was evidently blaming Regal for the loss. It looked like cooler heads prevailed, but after a hug, Regal turned around into a slap from Precious! Regal looked stunned, but not as much as when Garvin spun him around and dropped him with the DDT. It looks like the Electric Dream Machine is a thing of the past.
MATCH #8 Bob Backlund vs. Bad News Brown
This issue between Bob Backlund & Bad News Brown is fresh, but based on this match, you'd think they had been at each other's throats for years. Both men are walking around with big chips on their shoulders right now - Brown from coming up short against Ted DiBiase at Super Cade and Backlund from not being on the show at all. Both men have very different styles, and Brown's style won out tonight. Backlund can brawl for sure, but Brown grew up brawling. Brown used a little misdirection to distract referee Danny Davis so he could pull out a foreign object, clock Backlund in the jaw with it, hide the evidence, and steal the win. When Backlund came to, he had a look on his face of disappointment that showed that this one isn't over.
Bad News Brown pinned Bob Backlund after hitting him with a foreign object in 0:08:55. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #9 "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan/Andre the Giant/Rick Martel vs. King Kong Bundy (World champion)/Big John Studd/Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
The crowd had been hot all night, but we hadn't heard anything yet. Once HULK HOGAN was introduced, the roof of Madison Square Garden was nearly blown off. Hogan proved he was everything he was billed to be and more. There is something special about what the Immortal One brings to the ring. Not only that, but when you team him with Andre the Giant & Rick Martel, you have a winning combination. There opponents though weren't going to make it easy, considering it was the Heenan Family. Martel was practically foaming at the mouth to get his hands on Ricky Steamboat, and Bobby Heenan knew that, so the Heenan Family strategy was to keep the Dragon away from Martel in hopes of making the fan favorites make a mistake. Martel's desire to get his hands on Steamboat led to him taking quite a beating from Bundy & Studd. Martel is a fighter though, and refused to let his shoulders be pinned to the mat.
Martel looked dead in the water, before Andre the Giant interjected himself to help his buddy, kicking Studd in the back, grabbing him by the hair, headbutting him in the back of the head. This gave Martel the time to tag in Hogan while Studd tagged Steamboat. Hogan went absolutely nuts, bouncing the Heenan Family around the ring. Bundy took a powder to the ring and he actually looked tentative to head back in the ring while Hogan did his thing. Hogan called Bundy into the ring but Bobby Heenan held Bundy back. Steamboat jumped Hogan, but missed a clothesline on him, only to run into a dropkick from Martel. Hogan would then hit Steamboat with the Big Leg Drop to secure the victory.
Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan and Rick Martel defeated The Heenan Family (Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy and Ricky Steamboat) when Hogan pinned Steamboat with the Big Leg Drop in 0:22:14. Rating: ** 3/4
If Hogan can perform like this at Saturday Night Slam Masters, we could see a brand new World champion. The show came to a close with the fan favorites celebrating with the rowdy MSG fans.
Card rating: **

Here we go, just a month off from being exactly 30 years ago to the day. It’s even a Tuesday event!
Although Shiro didn’t make any major waves I’d still say he over-delivered and was quite tenured compared to most Japanese wrestlers working in America.
Blanchard’s reign as TV Champion has been great, but I think he’ll see even more success when he starts teaming with Double A more frequently - unless there are other plans for Arn.
I’m quite thrilled that this match got a DUD rating because it tells me it was just Wahoo throwing potatoes all night and Luger likely trying to cover up as much as possible, which makes me happy. In my eyes, Luger doesn’t exceed his real life accomplishments but since you’re booking him at the moment, I can’t wait to see what path he takes.
A few months back the Rougeau’s had some momentum but it looks like they may have reached the height of their success with the recent additions to the tag team division. The Power Company make for an awesome duo that I already feel like they could hang with the Road Warriors and Unholy Alliance.
Adonis so good. I don’t think he ever gets enough credit. I’m not at all surprised he and Deeb got the rating they did. That said, 4 stars is just as tough to come by as 5 stars in 1986. I booked Adonis for 3 shows in 1985 to get Dr. Death over, he’s been booked to get Barbarian over - this is the role Adonis is built for.
It’s rare in this time to believe any team could go toe-to-toe with The Road Warriors but since you did so well booking the Unholy Alliance I see them as equally tough. Lots of draws, DQ’s, and count outs could be in this feuds future and I’m fine with it so long as they keep fighting.
Someday the Barbarian will meet his match. It’s clearly not Jimmy Garvin. But the EDM split is the story here. This is something that probably could have played out over a few weeks on Superstars, and maybe it still will, but even if this is the end-end, it’s fine.
The first surprise result for me seeing Brown over on Backlund. I’m not all in on this story yet but we’ll see how it develops. I’m seeing a trend of Backlund misfortunes but I don’t know yet if that is the story. I bet it’s difficult to come up with something fresh for Backlund seeing that you’ve booked him for the last 98 years.
This is the match that sold out MSG. Absolutely HUGE main event! This is a tough booking decision, too, because none of these guys should be getting pinned. Seeing the way things went, Hogan may have washed his hands of Steamboat by pinning him and that’s that between them for the near future. Martel/Steamboat could be your equivalent to Savage/Steamboat around this time, which is AWESOME. I think Hogan dethrones Bundy at Slam Masters to officially begin the era of Hulkamania. Things are looking up in the Universe.

4/26/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 3/31/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
We're fresh off the huge show at Madison Square Garden, and Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were here for Superstars! They went over some of the events of MSG, most notably discussing Hulk Hogan's debut. Monsoon mentioned that World champion King Kong Bundy showed that he was scared of what Hogan can do. Niemiller said that was insane, and that Bundy was just a smart champion saving his strength for the World Title match at Saturday Night Slam Masters. Monsoon said that speaking of Slam Masters, more of that huge card would be revealed on the program. Also on the program, great wrestling action including The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Hart Foundation, The Power Company is here, as is Junkyard Dog! Ricky Steamboat will be in action and will hopefully explain why he sold his soul to join the Heenan Family. And in our main event, the TV Title is on the line as Tully Blanchard defends against Koko B. Ware! But now to Howard Finkel to get us kicked off!
MATCH #1 Junkyard Dog vs. Nelson Veilluex
A great way to get our program started as the GCW fans love Junkyard Dog. JYD had a great time on his way to a victory today.
Junkyard Dog pinned Nelson Veilluex with the Thump Powerslam in 0:03:01. Rating: -3/4*
MATCH #2 The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Niemiller brought up as this match started that he had heard Jimmy Hart had been doing a lot of maneuvering backstage trying to get The Hart Foundation a World Tag Team Title shot. Monsoon did admit they're impressive, but with their losing to The Road Warriors at Super Cade II, that could be a difficult prospect. They took on the Rougeaus, who also have been suffering a tough string of losses and could use a win to get back on track as well. These two teams were evenly matched, matched to the point where we wouldn't get a winner today. The match would break down when Jimmy Hart tripped Jacques up, leading to Jacques going to the floor and grabbing the Mouth of the South by the collar. Jim Neidhart jumped out and hit Jacques from behind, leading to a four man brawl on the floor and a double countout.
The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) battled to a double countout in 0:06:03. Rating: ** 1/2
It didn't take long for it to be announced that these two teams will go at it one more time next Saturday night on Slam Masters.
THE FLOWER SHOP W/ GUEST TED DIBIASE
After a commercial break, we went to the set of The Flower Shop, where "Adorable" Adrian Adonis and Jimmy Hart were set to go. Adonis addressed his recent issues with The Barbarian, saying that he is way to pretty to be messing with a brute like that any longer. Hart said the Adorable One was moving to bigger and better things, which brought out Adonis' guest, Intercontinental champion Ted DiBiase. Adonis wasted no time in badgering DiBiase, saying that at MSG, he took the champ to the limit more than anyone had in the past. DiBiase was inclined to agree, saying that even though Adonis looks ridiculous, he is a great wrestler and pushed him to the edge. But he reminded Adonis that in the end, he left New York City as the IC champ. Hart interrupted and said now that they know how DiBiase operates, it would be different if DiBiase was man enough to give Adonis a rematch. DiBiase replied by saying that was ironic considering Adonis wasn't a man at all. This made Adonis hot who had to be "held back" by Jimmy Hart. Adonis screamed insults at DiBiase until DiBiase finally had enough, saying that if Adonis wanted another piece of him, he could have it at Saturday Night Slam Masters. Adonis & Hart were quick to accept, and now we have an Intercontinental Title match to look forward to!
MATCH #3 Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. Mr. X
Monsoon commented that it just didn't look right seeing Ricky Steamboat alongside Bobby Heenan. Niemiller said that it looked brilliant. Heenan had a smile from ear to ear as the Dragon took it to the masked Mr. X, easily putting him away with the Flying Crossbody Press.
Ricky Steamboat pinned Mr. X with the Flying Crossbody Press in 0:03:09. Rating: **
After the match, Niemiller went down to ringside to get a quick word with Heenan and Steamboat, asking Steamboat why he made the brilliant move to come back and align himself with the Heenan Family. Steamboat was only able to get out the word "Well" before RICK MARTEL jumped on him, firing away with right hands as the fans lost their minds. Steamboat fought back and we had ourselves what might possibly be the most intense brawl we've seen in GCW history. By the time it was all said and done, Martel had a ripped shirt and Steamboat had a busted lip. It was a chaotic scene that required Martel actually be handcuffed and escorted out of the building just to keep these two separated. Niemiller got back to the announce position and was out of sorts after being caught in the middle of the brawl, saying that Martel was nuts. Monsoon countered by saying that Steamboat double crossed Martel and cost him the World Title, so he has this and much more coming.
MATCH #4 The Power Company (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. The Gladiator/Dave Barbie
It has been well documented that Dino Bravo is a tremendous tag team wrestler, having individually been a tag team champion longer than anyone in GCW history. He has gotten himself back into the tag team ranks with new partner Hercules, and it looks like Jimmy Hart has a winning combination on his hands here. Bravo & Hercules made quick work of their opponents today. It shouldn't take the Power Company long before they are in the tag team title mix.
The Power Company (Dino Bravo and Hercules) defeated The Gladiator and Dave Barbie when Bravo pinned Barbie after a bodyslam in 0:02:44. Rating: -1/4*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
Gene Okerlund talked about the upcoming NBC special, Saturday Night Slam Masters, airing next weekend from the Providence Civic Center in Providence, RI. He talked about how the historic World Title match is reason alone to tune in, and the iconic rematch between Andre the Giant & Big John Studd will be wonderful, but he had more matches to announce for the show. He brought up that after what we saw on the Flower Shop earlier, it has been made official that Ted DiBiase will defend the Intercontinental Title against Adrian Adonis. In addition, we found out earlier as well that the Rougeaus & the Hart Foundation will meet one more time. The other match he could announce came about as a direct result of an incident at Madison Square Garden. Okerlund showed a clip of the implosion of the Electric Dream Machine when Jimmy Garvin turned on partner Steve Regal after the match. Okerlund announced that these former teammates would meet one-on-one at Slam Masters.
Okerlund concluded the segment by officially announcing our next huge live event which is on May 24 from the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. There is one match to announce, and it is an absolute blockbuster. President Jack Tunney has made it official - one-on-one, RICK MARTEL vs. RICKY STEAMBOAT. That match alone is set to blow the roof off of the Civic Arena.
MATCH #5 Television Title Match Tully Blanchard (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan/Arn Anderson) vs. "The Birdman" Koko B. Ware
Tully Blanchard didn't take too kindly to Koko B. Ware interrupting his declaration of being the greatest Television champion in history (considering the title has only been around for a little over a year, that's not much of a declaration, but I digress). Koko was on fire here, coming out with Frankie, and wanting to capture his first championship gold in GCW. You could tell early on that Blanchard wasn't taking this match seriously at all. Koko is flamboyant, he might even think he's part bird, so you could see why someone would underestimate him. Blanchard was more interested in making fun of Koko with Bobby Heenan and Arn Anderson that he was barely focusing on the task at hand which was retaining the TV Title. Once Koko started to build momentum though, you could see the jovial mood of the Heenan Family turn into panic. No matter what Blanchard tried, Koko had an answer for it and looked primed to capture the championship as he climbed to the top rope. Arn Anderson had other plans though, as he shoved Koko off the top in blatant view of referee Joey Marella, prompting the blatant disqualification.
Koko B. Ware defeated Tully Blanchard by disqualification in 0:06:37. Rating: ** 1/4 (Tully Blanchard retained the GCW Television Title.) [Arn Anderson interfered against Koko B. Ware.]
The Enforcer got in the ring and put the boots to Koko, trying to make an example of him. Blanchard got his bearings back and looked to join in, but THE MEXICAN EAGLES ran down and chased them off before any further damage could be done. Our show went off the air with Chavo Guerrero, Dos Caras, & Koko B. Ware inviting the Heenan Family back in the ring.
Next week on Superstars, we will be getting ourselves ready for Saturday Night Slam Masters! Lex Luger will be here, as will be fellow Heenan Family member Big John Studd! The Barbarian looks to stay undefeated against Shiro Koshinaka, and the World Tag Team champions will be competing. And in the main event, we have a match that could resemble a bar fight more than a wrestling contest when Animal or the Road Warriors takes on Stan "The Lariat" Hansen!

JYD isn’t up to much these days but a squash on TV keeps him somewhat relevant.
Rougeaus and the Hart Foundation were always a good match and putting them on SNSM should really spotlight your exciting tag division.
Great! Adonis/Dibiase rematch! You booked two show stealers for SNSM in 10 minutes!
The Steamboat/Martel heat is so easy and natural to get into. No one has to say a word because all the emotion is already there. I can’t wait for these two to go one on one.
The Power Company are badasses. I hope they wear half t-shirts, weight lifting belts, and fingerless gloves to the ring ala 80’s power lifters.
Oh, EDM will actually settle their split at SNSM. Interesting. Woah! Now we have a date for Martel vs. Steamboat and the Civic Arena likely sold out in record time!
Koko took Tully to the limit, which I didn’t fully expect. With the Eagles getting involved I’m a little curious if this is going anywhere, or just a way to end the show on a somewhat happy note.

5/3/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 4/21/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
MATCH #1 The Barbarian vs. "The Japanese Assassin" Shiro Koshinaka
No one has really even come close to stopping The Barbarian since he burst on the scene in GCW. Shiro Koshinaka took his shot at it today, but the Japanese Assassin didn't fare much better. He's a very talented competitor but The Barbarian's brute strength simply overwhelmed him as he remained undefeated. Monsoon wondered aloud if there was anybody capable of stopping The Barbarian. Niemiller admitted he has looked dominant, but nobody is unstoppable.
The Barbarian pinned Shiro Koshinaka with the Diving Headbutt in 0:03:06. Rating: * 3/4
JACK TUNNEY ANNOUNCES A MATCH FOR TONIGHT'S SLAM MASTERS
After commercial, we got a pre-recorded announcement from the office of GCW President Jack Tunney. Tunney said that as a result of how our program ended last week, a 6-man tag team match had been signed for tonight's Saturday Night Slam Masters. Koko B. Ware will team with The Mexican Eagles to take on Television champion Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, & Lex Luger of the Heenan Family. We then cut to videos from the competitors involved, both teams essentially saying the same thing - they are going to win tonight on NBC.
MATCH #2 "The Total Package" Lex Luger (w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) vs. Serge Jodoin
Speaking of Lex Luger, he was up in our next match. The Total Package continued to show what kind of future he has by making short and easy work out of Serge Jodoin.
Lex Luger pinned Serge Jodoin after a powerslam in 0:01:30. Rating: -1/2*
After the match, the man that Luger beat at MSG, WAHOO MCDANIEL, came down and grabbed Howard Finkel's mic. He echoed what he said at MSG, telling Luger that he has one big future here, but that he showed he was a punk when he blew him off after their match. He told Luger not to listen to that weasel Bobby Heenan, and to do the right thing and shake his hand like a man. Luger looked very tentative about it as the Brain implored the Total Package to just leave. As the fans cheered it on though, Luger caved in and did the right thing - or so we thought. Luger did shake Wahoo's hand, but as soon as Wahoo turned his back, Luger nailed him from behind. The crowd booed as Luger put the boots to Wahoo, but little did they know it was about to get worse. Wahoo pulled Luger to the corner and wrapped his leg around the ring post. Heenan handed his charge a steel chair which Luger used to smash Wahoo's knee. This seems to be a theme of the Heenan Family lately. Luger hit Wahoo's knee several more times, all but shattering Wahoo's kneecap. Wahoo had to be stretchered out of the arena. It's too soon to say, but Monsoon & Niemiller speculated that McDaniel's GCW career may have just come to a violent end.
MATCH #3 Big John Studd (w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) vs. Don Driggers/Ron Shaw
During this dominant squash by Big John Studd of two overmatched opponent, Bobby Heenan & Studd gave an insert promo. Nothing ground-breaking, saying that after tonight's Saturday Night Slam Masters, he was going to show himself to be the one and only true giant of wrestling when he meets Andre the Giant. That, as they say, remains to be seen.
Handicap-Match: Big John Studd defeated Don Driggers and Ron Shaw when Studd pinned Shaw with the Backbreaker in 0:02:47. Rating: -* 1/2
MATCH #4 Non-Title Match The Rock 'N Roll Express (World Tag Team champions) vs. Scott McGhee/John Centeno
We got to see the World Tag Team champions in action next as Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson brought the heat against Scott McGhee & John Centeno. Nothing more than a display of the talents of the 3-time champions.
The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated Scott McGhee and John Centeno when R. Morton pinned McGhee after the Double Dropkick in 0:01:41. Rating: * 1/4
After the bout, they were joined in the ring by Lord Alfred Hayes, who asked what was next for the reigning tag champs. Morton & Gibson said that the tag team division in GCW has never been better, and there are a lot of worthy contenders. Gibson said that they have always prided themselves on their willingness to take on all comers, and this third title reign would be no different. At this point they were interrupted by JIMMY HART & THE HART FOUNDATION. Bret Hart proclaimed that if the Rock 'N Roll Express were looking for their next challengers, look no further than the Hart Foundation. Jim Neidhart added that if they didn't believe them, just watch what they did to the Rougeau Brothers tonight. We went to commercial with the two teams engaged in a staredown.
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene was fired up as usual as he ran down the card for tonight's Saturday Night Slam Masters airing on NBC. The main story is obviously going to be the World Heavyweight Title clash between King Kong Bundy and Hulk Hogan. Okerlund went into detail about what went down in the 6-man tag at MSG with Bundy essentially running from Hogan and Hogan getting the pin on Ricky Steamboat. A clip was shown of the Heenan Family after the match all but losing their minds about what happened, Steamboat saying that he would make personally sure Hogan didn't leave Slam Masters with the World Title. Back to Okerlund, who was joined by his guest RICK MARTEL. Martel said he heard Steamboat's words, and he was making a promise to Hulk Hogan and all of the GCW fans - the Dragon would not be a factor in tonight's title match. Martel concluded by saying that on May 24 in Pittsburgh, he would make sure Steamboat wouldn't be a factor in GCW period. Okerlund thanked Martel and finished by saying that he would have more updates on the Pittsburgh show next week.
MATCH #5 Animal (w/ Hawk/Paul Ellering) vs. Stan "The Lariat" Hansen (w/ Sgt. Slaughter)
This one was set to combust from the start. Animal and Stan Hansen are two guys bound to get out of control under normal circumstances. Add their tag team partners at ringside, and it was not a matter of if, but when this one would turn into a debacle. Referee Tommy Young was in the most unenviable position of keeping order in this match, and he did the best he could. But once Hansen tossed Animal to the outside, all bets were off. Slaughter came over to immediately get involved, but Hawk cut him off and those two started fighting. Animal took exception to this and nailed Slaughter in the back. Hansen jumped to the floor and attacked Animal again, and Tommy Young had no choice but to throw this one out.
Animal and Stan Hansen battled to a double disqualification in 0:07:14. Rating: ** 1/2
The show came to a close with all four men tearing each other, and subsequently all of the ringside area, apart.
Next week on Superstars, we will have the fallout of Saturday Night Slam Masters! On the program, Ricky Steamboat will be in action, as will the Rougeau Brothers! Andre the Giant will be here as well, and in a huge main event, we will see Bob Backlund taking on Bad News Brown! See you tonight in Providence!
!!! BREAKING NEWS !!!
Based on the chaos at the end of the broadcast, it was announced that on May 24 in Pittsburgh, the Civic Arena will host a match between Hawk & Sgt. Slaughter, and to prevent any kind of large brawl like this taking place, tag team partners will be banned from ringside.

I’ve liked what you’ve done with Barbarian thus far. It’s simple booking and you’re building a pretty high profile match without even having an opponent for him yet. Looking forward to see who steps up to stop him.
That 6 man is a fun edition to Slam Masters. Luger, Tully, and Arn… you pick up one more STAR and you’ve got yourself quite a stable.
Again, I don’t know what I’d do with Luger but he’s one of the guys I look forward to reading about the most. Essentially ending Wahoo’s career is a superb way to start his run.
The Studd/Andre stuff is great. I’m very curious as to what you do with both once this angle is over.
Hart Foundation & RnR’s will put on some excellent tag team matches. It’s amazing these two storied teams never met IRL (as far as I know).
I like Martel’s teaser for tonight. He sold SNSM as well as anyone and he’s not even booked to wrestle.
I can imagine how wild that brawl got to close the show. I look for more of the same in Pittsburgh.

5/3/86 - Saturday Night Slam Masters (taped 5/1/86) LOCATION - Providence Civic Center - Providence, RI
PRESIDENT JACK TUNNEY SUSPENDS LEX LUGER
Before we even got to the opening video package, we got a video from the offices of President Jack Tunney. Tunney said that as a result of the heinous and excessive attack by Lex Luger on Wahoo McDaniel this morning on Superstars, he has been suspended for 30 days without pay. Tunney said that the 6-man tag team match will still take place, with Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson now being joined by RICKY STEAMBOAT to take on the Mexican Eagles & Koko B. Ware.
"Obsession" by Animotion kicked us off as we got the opening video to Saturday Night Slam Masters, this time on NBC! Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse "the Body" Ventura were on hand to intro the show, and what a huge show it would be, featuring TWO big championship matches! Ventura mentioned that everyone was so excited about Hulkamania running wild in Global Championship Wrestling, but he promised that Hulkamania would come to a screeching halt here in Providence. They ran down the rest of the big card before throwing it to the ring to Howard Finkel!
MATCH #1 Intercontinental Title Match Ted DiBiase (c) vs. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Our opening contest was a rematch from Madison Square Garden with Ted DiBiase defending the Intercontinental Title against "Adorable" Adrian Adonis. The first match was tremendous, and the second one followed suit. These two have a great ring chemistry and this was a hell of a match. Adonis pushed DiBiase to the limits, but as the IC champ has done so often before, he can take a lot of punishment and find a way to fight back. DiBiase did that here, weathering the storm to get the win with the Cobra Clutch.
Ted DiBiase made Adrian Adonis submit to the Cobra Clutch in 0:12:07. Rating: **** 1/4 (Ted DiBiase retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)
BARRY WINDHAM RETURNS!
After DiBiase was handed the championship, we got a surprise as BARRY WINDHAM came down to the ring. We haven't seen Windham since he was hurt at Super Cade by Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson. DiBiase was happy to see his friend and offered a handshake, but Windham slapped his hand away and instead grabbed the microphone from Howard Finkel. DiBiase looked bewildered, but all Windham did was say, "Where were you?" Windham continued by saying that at Super Cade II, Windham was outnumbered and overwhelmed, but where was DiBiase? Selfishly focusing on himself. Windham said that if DiBiase was really his mentor, hell, really his FRIEND, he would have been down there to help. DiBiase said he had a match too, having to survive Bad News Brown. Windham said that was nothing but an excuse, and he didn't want to hear it. After a bit of back and forth, Windham left the ring in a huff. DiBiase followed, trying to talk some sense into Windham.
Monsoon thought it was highly unfair of Windham to question DiBiase's friendship like that considering DiBiase had an Intercontinental Title defense to contend with at Super Cade. Ventura disagreed, saying that if you claim to be someone's friend, you should be there for them regardless of what you had going on. Ventura said that Monsoon would known that if he actually had any friends, a remark Monsoon did not take kindly to.
MATCH #2 "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (w/ Precious) vs. "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal
The Electric Dream Machine is no more after Jimmy Garvin blamed Steve Regal for his loss to The Barbarian at MSG. Regal was fired up to get revenge on Garvin for his cowardly attack on him. Regal was running on pure adrenaline, but that made him mistake prone. When Precious got involved, pretending to apologize to Regal and wanting to patch things up, Regal lowered his guard. This let Gorgeous Jimmy catch him with a thumb to the eye, drop him with the DDT, and get the win.
Jimmy Garvin pinned Steve Regal with the DDT in 0:04:29. Rating: * 1/4
MATCH #3 Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd (w/ Bobby "the Brain" Heenan)
The issues between the two giants of GCW didn't get settled at Super Cade, which is why they were set for another round here on NBC. We got words from both sides before the match, standard "I'm the real giant" stuff, but that didn't take away from how epic this match felt. Wrestling wise, it was an ugly contest. Spectacle wise, you can't do much better than Andre vs. Studd. These two men slugged away at each other like two mastadons battling. It was something to behold, but eventually, Andre did what many had thought impossible before and bodyslammed Studd before hitting him with the Elbowdrop to get the pin.
Andre the Giant pinned Big John Studd with the Elbowdrop in 0:05:37. Rating: *
HONKY TONK MAN GETS AN UNEXPECTED DANCE PARTNER
After a commercial break, we got the much ballyhooed debut of the Honky Tonk Man. HTM came out and insisted that even though he was a fantastic wrestler, what the people really wanted him to do was sing and dance. He had a guitar (which he conspicuously didn't bother actually playing) and sang a god awful song while doing his best Elvis impression. He was getting booed mercilessly, but those boos turned to wild cheers when JUNKYARD DOG came down to the ring. Honky Tonk looked less than thrilled that his party was being interrupted. JYD was laughing, and said that what Honky Tonk Man did wasn't dancing. He then went on to do his own unique brand of dancing, which the crowd of course ate up. Honky Tonk Man shoved him aside and again tried to show his dancing, but was met with boos. The segment ended with a dejected HTM heading to the back while JYD continued to entertain the Providence fans.
MATCH #4 Tully Blanchard (Television champion)/"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson/Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (w/ Bobby "the Brain" Heenan) vs. The Mexican Eagles/Koko B. Ware
Before the 6-man tag could kick off, Bobby Heenan grabbed the microphone from Howard Finkel and yelled about how unfair it was that Lex Luger was suspended just for retiring that washed up has been Wahoo McDaniel, saying that he was doing the world a favor. Heenan says his men were going to take it out on the Mexican Eagles & Koko B. Ware instead. It didn't seem like that would be the case early as the speed advantage of the fan favorites, but the complexion changed dramatically when Chavo Guerrero took a nasty fall on an Arn Anderson backdrop. Guerrero landed badly on his neck and was clearly hurt. The match continued while doctors worked on Chavo. Dos Caras & Koko fought bravely, but with being a man short, they just couldn't deal with the wrestling prowess of Anderson, Blanchard, & Steamboat. The Dragon caught Caras with the Flying Crossbody Press to get the win.
The Heenan Family (Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat and Tully Blanchard) defeated The Mexican Eagles (Chavo Guerrero and Dos Caras) and Koko B. Ware when Steamboat pinned Dos Caras with the Flying Crossbody Press in 0:08:24. Chavo Guerrero suffered a neck injury. He will be out for approximately 11 months. Rating: ** 1/2 (Lex Luger no-showed.)
The camera cut away to Monsoon & Ventura who talked about the upcoming title match. In the background you could see Chavo Guerrero being wheeled away on a stretcher before we cut to a hype video for Hulk Hogan. A generic hype video was shown of Hogan training for the match tonight, including an impressive display of weight lifting feats. When we got back to ringside, Monsoon said that Hogan looked ready to be a champion. Ventura agreed that Hogan looked to be in excellent physical condition, but lifting weights is not going to be enough to lift King Kong Bundy, because unlike the barbells, Bundy can fight back.
MATCH #5 The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart)
The Hart Foundation told the World Tag Team champions to watch this match closely tonight, so Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson took them up on the offer by watching the match from down at ringside. The Rougeau Brothers were the competition for Jimmy Hart's charges, and this was a tremendous match. It was very competitive from the opening bell, and occasional camera shots of the Rock 'N Roll Express showed that they were indeed impressed with Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart. Jacques & Raymond were not simply going to be a stepping stone here. After a hotly contested match, the Rougeaus just couldn't quite pull it out as Jacques was pinned after being hit with the Hart Attack.
The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) when B. Hart pinned J. Rougeau after the Hart Attack in 0:11:33. Rating: **** 1/4
After the match, the Hitman & the Anvil looked like they may have had intentions to continue the assault, but the Rock 'N Roll Express were quick to get into the ring to walk them off. Morton & Gibson made the mistake of turning their backs to check on the Rougeaus before the Hart Foundation had left the ring, leaving the door wide open for Hart & Neidhart to jump them from behind. The Hart Foundation had the brief advantage, but Morton & Gibson turned the tides by knocking them out of the ring with stereo dropkicks. Morton grabbed the microphone and was all fired up when he yelled to the Hart Foundation, "If you boys want a tag title shot, you got one!" We found out in the post show press conference that this title match will take place on May 24 in Pittsburgh.
MATCH #6 World Title Match King Kong Bundy (c) (w/ Bobby "the Brain" Heenan) vs. "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan
We were now to the match the whole world had been waiting for. This match alone may make this the most watched wrestling event in television history. Hulk Hogan has taken Global Championship Wrestling by storm and could end the tyrannical reign of King Kong Bundy once and for all. Even with as impressive as the Hulkster is, he still had a proverbial mountain to climb in the dominant World champion. Hogan was running on pure adrenaline to start and was peppering Bundy with punches, chops, and elbows in an attempt to knock the gargantuan champ off his feet. Bundy survived that initial wave though and flattened Hogan with a body attack. This is the first time we really saw Hogan in trouble, and he did absorb a great deal of punishment in a short amount of time. Hogan has come too far though to just lay down, and he ended up Hulking up after Bundy hit him with an avalanche. Bundy tried his best to stop Hogan, but the Hulkster fought back with hard right hands. Bobby Heenan saw everything slipping away, so he slid a chair into the ring to Bundy. Problem was, Hogan saw it and stopped Bundy from picking it up by stepping on it. Hogan got a little carried away, hitting Bundy with a hard punch, picking up the chair, and whacking Bundy over the head with it! Unfortunately, this was done right in plain sight of Tommy Young making this a disqualification.
King Kong Bundy defeated Hulk Hogan by disqualification in 0:06:09. Rating: -1/2* (King Kong Bundy retained the GCW World Title.)
Hogan seemed to snap out of whatever trance he was in, and pleaded his case with Young, but the decision was final. King Kong Bundy was still the World champion. The crowd booed wildly, but this match was over. The action wasn't though, as Hogan soon found himself surrounded by TULLY BLANCHARD, ARN ANDERSON, RICKY STEAMBOAT, & BIG JOHN STUDD! Hogan had a chair, but he was looking down the barrel of being outnumbered 5 on 1. Luckily for him, the odds were evened when ANDRE THE GIANT, RICK MARTEL, KOKO B. WARE, & DOS CARAS came out. Our broadcast went off the air with a huge staredown and the Heenan Family backing off down the aisle.
Card rating: * 3/4

Ooooooh shit! Is this real life?!
An unlikely and unpopular announcement to open the show. Luger was getting hot so I’m thinking we’ve got a no show on our hands. Either way, Steamboat is quite the replacement and is miles ahead in in-ring work so I don’t expect the 6-man to be any less exciting.
Killer match to kick things off. This is how you set the tone for a prime time tv event!
Windham is back but not exactly the way we remember him. It doesn’t look like he and Dibiase will be friends for long and I can only imagine where this story will take us. Awesome banter between Gorilla and Ventura, too.
Not much to say about the EDM match but with Garvin going over I don’t expect to see Regal much longer. Garvin is a good hand, though. You’ve got options with where you want to go with him and if it’s nowhere, he’s still good in the role.
Andre vs. Studd is such a big attraction that a ton of people would have tuned in to see this. A slugfest, a bodyslam, and a win from Andre was all we really expected here.
How perfect of a feud is HTM and JYD? I can’t wait for these matches.
6-man tag riddled with all kinds of bad luck. First the Luger no-show and now the Chavo injury. I think the win by Heenan’s team was pretty obvious but now with the injury, Dos Caras may not have much of a career left in GCW.
Wow! Another highly rated match for this show! GCW is putting up the numbers lately. Harts vs. RnRs could steal the show in Pittsburgh. Speaking of, that card is looking tremendous thus far.
Main Event time! I thought we might see the beginning of Hulkamania here on NBC but that’s not the case. Looks like we’ll get at least one more challenge from the Hulkster down the line but I like this finish. It’s typical Hogan with his heel tendencies and classic pleading with the referee.
Great edition of SNSM! Pittsburgh is going to be awesome to run. I’m looking forward to it.

5/10/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 4/21/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Welcome to GCW Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were here as always to intro the show, which will include the Rougeau Brothers in action. Ricky Steamboat will be here, as will Andre the Giant! And in our feature bout, Bob Backlund meets Bad News Brown!
HONKY TONK MAN CALLS OUT JUNKYARD DOG
"Lord" Alfred Hayes was backstage with new superstar, HONKY TONK MAN. HTM said that last Saturday night should have been the best night of his life, but it was ruined by Junkyard Dog. HTM mentioned that he was going to sing and dance and prove to the largest TV audience in wrestling history that he was the greatest entertainer of all time, but JYD showed him up. At this point, JYD interrupted and told Honky Tonk he needs to relax. "You need to go with the flow, Honky. I'm all about having a good time, and I had a really good time on Saturday!" HTM told JYD that if anyone knows how to have a good time it's the Honky Tonk Man. JYD said he was hoping HTM would say that, because they have a match later today, and they're going to have a great time. JYD exited as HTM was left fuming.
MATCH #1 The Rougeau Brothers vs. Dan King/Andre Malo
The Rougeaus came up a little bit short at Slam Masters, but they looked good in getting a quick win to open up the wrestling portion of our broadcast.
The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) defeated Dan King and Andre Malo when R. Rougeau pinned Malo after a side step in 0:02:21. Rating: *
MATCH #2 Andre the Giant vs. Mike Saxton
Poor Mike Saxon looked scared out of his mind, and rightfully so. If I had to face Andre, I'd be scared out of my wits too. Saxon did everything but mess his pants trying to get away from Andre, but the Giant's Elbowdrop was the inevitable conclusion to this match.
Andre the Giant pinned Mike Saxton with the Elbowdrop in 0:01:44. Rating: DUD
THE FLOWER SHOP W/ GUESTS KING KONG BUNDY & BOBBY HEENAN
The Flower Shop was next, and "Adorable" Adrian Adonis had one massive guest - literally. His guest would be World champion King Kong Bundy, and Bundy was in a foul mood. Bobby Heenan was with him, and he was beside himself. Heenan ranted about how Hulk Hogan in GCW was the worst thing that has ever happened to the company as shown by what the lunatic did with that steel chair at Slam Masters. A video clip was shown of the Hulkster getting DQ'ed last Saturday night after attacking Bundy with a chair. Heenan said that footage was enough to give him nightmares, and he felt that Hogan needed to be stopped before he got started. Heenan demanded that President Jack Tunney fire Hulk Hogan because he was a menace. Tunney actually did come out, but he wasn't out to fire Hogan. Instead, he reminded Heenan that it was the Brain who introduced the chair into the match in the first place. He ended by saying that Hogan would get a rematch for the World Title on May 24 in Pittsburgh. We went to commercial with Heenan & Bundy about to lose their minds.
MATCH #3 Junkyard Dog vs. Honky Tonk Man
Honky Tonk Man didn't look pleased to be in this match, already upset about what Junkyard Dog did to upstage him at Slam Masters last week. HTM tried to keep his focus though to wrestle the match. JYD, however, was doing his normal thing which is to have as much fun as possible in the ring. JYD was jiving and dancing all throughout the contest, even trying to get Honky Tonk Man to dance with him. HTM looked like he was going to go along with it, but any time he'd start to dance, JYD would scoop him up for a slam or slap on a headlock. JYD was having fun at HTM's expense, but eventually Honky Tonk would get the last laugh when he rolled JYD, and with a handful of tights, picked up the win.
Honky Tonk Man pinned Junkyard Dog after a roll up in 0:04:19. Rating: * 1/2
JYD was not happy after the match, but Honky Tonk insisted it was an accident and that his hand got tied up. He promised JYD he didn't mean to do it, something Monsoon on commentary vehemently denied. Niemiller told Monsoon he should be more trusting as clearly it was an accident. JYD seemed to take HTM at his word as we went to commercial.
MATCH #4 Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (w/ Bobby "the Brain" Heenan) vs. Al Navarro
Bobby Heenan was still obvious out of sorts about the announcement earlier for the World Title match in Pittsburgh. He was out to support Ricky Steamboat, but luckily for the Dragon, he didn't really need any guidance to defeat Al Navarro. He could have used the Brain being more focused though. Maybe then he would have been warned that RICK MARTEL was coming to the ring. Martel slid in and tackled Steamboat before unloading on him with lefts and rights. Steamboat just had to cover up as Martel was all over him. Officials had to run down and pull Martel away, but Martel kept breaking loose to fire away on the Dragon some more. Eventually, police officers had to actually handcuff Martel in order to keep him from attacking Steamboat, and even then he was still kicking wildly at him as Steamboat & Heenan headed for higher ground. This one is so personal, I can't even imagine what Pittsburgh is going to be like.
Ricky Steamboat pinned Al Navarro with the Flying Crossbody Press in 0:02:56. Rating: * 1/4
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
"Mean" Gene was here as always for the Live Event Report, talking about our next huge show which takes place on May 24 from the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. The card is really starting to take shape. Okerlund mentioned the World Tag Team Title match between the Rock 'N Roll Express and the Hart Foundation. There was a promo from Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson. The reigning champs said that they had to admit they were impressed by the Hart Foundation at Slam Masters, but promised they would leave Pittsburgh still the champs. Okerlund continued by mentioning the other previously announced matches including Hawk vs. Sgt. Slaughter, and the match that is sure to blow the roof off the place, Rick Martel vs. Ricky Steamboat. And of course, the huge rematch for the World Title between champion King Kong Bundy and "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan. Okerlund had one more match to announce that was just signed today. It will be a 6-man tag team match featuring Andre the Giant, Dos Caras, & Koko B. Ware against Big John Studd, Arn Anderson, & Television champion Tully Blanchard.
MATCH #5 Bob Backlund vs. Bad News Brown
These two met recently in a match that Bad News Brown won after using a foreign object. Bob Backlund wanted a rematch and it was granted, and was our feature match of the program. Backlund knew he couldn't get into a fight with Brown or he would likely see himself on the losing end again. Backlund managed to ground Brown for a large portion of this match with mat wrestling, and Bad News was finding himself getting more and more frustrated. Brown would get shots in here and there, but Backlund had firm control of this contest. Brown reached a boiling over point and reached into his tights for a foreign object, but before he could secure it, Backlund got behind him and locked him in the Crossface Chickenwing! Brown knew he was stuck and immediately gave up.
Bob Backlund made Bad News Brown submit to the Crossface Chickenwing in 0:12:00. Rating: * 1/4
After the match, Brown yelled at anyone who would listen that he never gave up and he was cheated. Niemiller of course agreed, but Monsoon said that was ridiculous. Niemiller ended the conversation by saying that Backlund would get his for stealing from Bad News Brown.
!!! BREAKING NEWS !!!
A third match between Bob Backlund & Bad News Brown has been signed and will take place on May 24 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Be sure to join us next week on Superstars! The Hart Foundation will be here, as will Koko B. Ware. Jimmy Garvin will be in action too. Barry Windham makes his return to take on Dino Bravo of the Power Company. And in our main event, Tully Blanchard defends the Television Title against "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan!

Let’s see how well you keep things going after that great SNSM.
Good little promo to start things off. JYD playing it super cool. I have a feeling one of them won’t be having a good time later.
Can The Rougeau’s stay competitive in your stacked tag division? Time will tell I suppose but it will be tough.
Saxton held it in trying to get away from Andre but surely he shit himself when Andre dropped the elbow. DUD? So what. Andre on TV twice in a week!
Huge announcement on the Flower Shop. I thought Hulkamania would start at SNSM in their first encounter, but since it didn’t, I feel like it won’t start for a few months. But hell if I know anymore. It might happen in Pittsburgh now!
A little retribution from Honky who “accidentally” grabbed the tights, like JYD “accidentally” ruined Honky’s performance at SNSM. This feud will be good for both of them. And brother, how incredible would a JYD/Jimmy Valiant team be?
Again, no promos for Martel/Steamboat. Nothing needs to be said. This feud is great!
Pittsburgh’s card is tremendous. That 6-Man Tag will be a lot of fun too. Visually that babyface team standing together in the ring puts a smile on my face.
Good little main event. Such a clash of styles but seeing these names on paper you would have no idea what to expect. Knowing what we know about these two in 2016 it’s easy to believe this could be as stiff as possible without being a full on shoot. Already excited for the rematch.
Let's keep it rolling! I'm up with a huge weekend for WWA.

5/17/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 4/21/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Welcome to GCW Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller welcomed the show, which will feature a lot of great GCW wrestling action. On today's show, we will see Koko B. Ware in competition, as well as the return of Barry Windham who takes on Dino Bravo! The Hart Foundation will be here, we will hear from Honky Tonk Man, and hear more about our next huge show in Pittsburgh! And a huge Television Title match closes our show as Tully Blanchard defends against Jim Duggan! To the ring now and Howard Finkel!
MATCH #1 "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (w/ Precious) vs. Dave Barbie
Wrestling kicked off with Jimmy Garvin taking on Dave Barbie. Precious was at Garvin's side as always, and the Gorgeous One put Barbie's shoulders to the mat in near record time. After the match, Garvin got on the mic briefly and let everyone know he was the most gorgeous man in wrestling. Monsoon & Niemiller mentioned that Garvin has been signed to wrestle Junkyard Dog in Pittsburgh next Saturday night.
Jimmy Garvin pinned Dave Barbie with the DDT in 0:00:24. Rating: -3/4*
HONKY TONK MAN TRIES TO EXPLAIN HIS ACTIONS FROM LAST WEEK
Lord Alfred Hayes was backstage standing by with Honky Tonk Man. Hayes got right to the point and asked HTM about why he cheated to pin Junkyard Dog last week. HTM told Hayes that was a ridiculous accusation and that he did no such thing. Hayes countered by saying HTM clearly pulled the tights to win. HTM said that was a complete accident and he would never do something like that on purpose to win a match, especially a match against a man he considers a friend like JYD. In fact, HTM told us that he would be in the corner of JYD in Pittsburgh when he wrestles Jimmy Garvin to "support my friend to victory."
MATCH #2 "The Birdman" Koko B. Ware vs. The Menace
Koko B. Ware will be part of the big 6-man tag in Pittsburgh, but today, the Birdman was in singles action picking up a nice victory over The Menace. The youngster continues to show that he has a mighty bright future in GCW.
Koko B. Ware pinned The Menace with the Ghostbuster in 0:02:58. Rating: **
MATCH #3 Barry Windham vs. "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart)
Barry Windham was back in action after having his knee injured at Super Cade II, taking on Dino Bravo of the Power Company. Windham showed himself first at Slam Masters when he confronted his friend Ted DiBiase, and Windham came into this match with that chip on his shoulder. Bravo wanted to pose and show off his impressive physique, but Windham was having none of it as he was all over Bravo. Windham was a man possessed with how relentless he was with his attack, which is when Jimmy Hart called HERCULES down. Windham saw Hercules coming as he got on the apron and knocked him down with a hard running knee. But when he turned back, it was right into the Side Suplex from Bravo which was just enough to get the 3 count.
Dino Bravo pinned Barry Windham with the Side Suplex in 0:06:00. Rating: *** [Hercules interfered against Barry Windham.]
Hercules got back up and into the ring and we had a 2-on-1 situation on our hands. It was shaping up to be a bad day for Windham, but luckily TED DIBIASE was in the building to make the save. Windham got back up and was fighting side by side with the Intercontinental champion to rid the ring of the Power Company as we went to break.
BARRY WINDHAM & TED DIBIASE ARE MAD AS HELL
Back from commercial, Monsoon was in the ring with Windham & DiBiase. Windham said that he may not be seeing eye-to-eye with DiBiase right now, but he appreciated DiBiase coming out to help him today. Windham shook DiBiase's hand. DiBiase said he would always have Windham's back. The two focused on the Power Company next, challenging them to a match for Pittsburgh. As of press time, we have not received an answer, but we hope to get that response next week on Superstars.
MATCH #4 The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Bob Marcus/Joe Marcus
During this match, we got a shot of Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson watch the Hart Foundation on a monitor in the back, scouting the next challengers for the World Tag Team Titles. You don't have to like the attitude of Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart, but this team has developed into one of the best in the world. The Rock 'N Roll Express looked impressed but not worried as the Hart Foundation picked up a victory on today's program.
The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Bob Marcus and Joe Marcus when B. Hart pinned J. Marcus after the Hart Attack in 0:03:54. Rating: 1/2*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
Okerlund was as adorable as ever, running down the card for next Saturday's big event in Pittsburgh, adding the signing of Junkyard Dog vs. Jimmy Garvin to the mix. Not much new covered, but there was an interview with The Road Warriors & Paul Ellering where they basically said even though Animal can't be at ringside, Hawk is going to break all of Sgt. Slaughter's bones.
The other announcement was for a show that will take place on June 17. It will be GCW's debut in Tacoma, WA as GCW invades the Tacoma Dome. Tickets are expected to go fast for this debut in the Pacific Northwest, so be sure to pick up your tickets right away!
MATCH #5 Television Title Match Tully Blanchard (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
We had a huge feature matchup today as "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan got a chance to bring home his first singles title taking on the reigning Television champion Tully Blanchard. Blanchard has held the TV Title for 9 months at this point and has often escaped by the skin of his teeth to do so. We would get more of the same in this one. The gameplan of Blanchard set forth by his manager Bobby Heenan for this contest was to stall. Duggan is a powerful man capable of beating Blanchard, so Tully ran for most of this match. By the time Hacksaw got a hold of Blanchard, time was running painfully short. Duggan had Tully reeling, but right as he hit the Three Point Stance clothesline, the bell rang. Unfortunately for Duggan, the 10-minute time limit had expired making this contest a draw.
Jim Duggan and Tully Blanchard battled to a draw in 0:10:00. Rating: *** (Tully Blanchard retained the GCW Television Title.)
The crowd booed as the Brain greedily snatched the TV Title away from the timekeeper's table, knowing his man has narrowly escaped today. Duggan let the show end on a happy note for the fans though as he grabbed Blanchard trying to leave the ring and clocked him with a hard right hand, sending the TV champion flying over the top to the floor.

Great to be catching up to GCW again! I think it's only a matter of time before Hulkamania runs wild on King Kong Bundy. I also love the angle with JYD and HTM, should provide a lot of amusement. With the influx of NWF stars, I'm losing a little track of your roster. Is it getting awfully big? Spring cleaning to come, perhaps?

With the influx of NWF stars, I'm losing a little track of your roster. Is it getting awfully big? Spring cleaning to come, perhaps? I've already done a little spring cleaning, but it's been pretty subtle so far. Steve Regal, Shiro Koshinaka, and soon Wahoo McDaniel are gone. Have a couple potentially on the chopping block soon as I have more new wrestlers coming in. It's definitely a fun time!

A match against JYD is good for Garvin. It will be telling of what kind of path Garvin takes in GCW.
Okay then. Things just picked up with Honky is JYD’s corner. Has JYD even approved of this?
Get ‘em Koko!
Bravo going over on Windham feels like you’ve got some big plans for the Power Company, which would be great. Windham and Dibiase are a shaky alliance. I’m digging the potential tag match.
The Hart Foundation are on the verge of blowing up. I don’t know how soon they get ahold of the title but it’s inevitable.
Calling Okerlund adorable as ever made me laugh.
I like the main event. Tully’s character services him and his opponents well. He luckily retains again and Duggan looks good even in a draw.
Parade is next!

5/24/86 - GCW Superstars (TAPED: 5/13/86) LOCATION: Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
We have a big Saturday night full of great GCW action, as not only do we have our huge show in Pittsburgh tonight, but we also have an episode of GCW Superstars! Gorilla Monsoon & Mark Niemiller were here as always to run down the show, which will feature Arn Anderson, Rick Martel, Adrian Adonis, and two big feature matches. We will see "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan take on "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin, and in what is sure to be a hard-hitting affair, The Barbarian faces a tough test against Sgt. Slaughter! Not only that, but The Power Company will respond to last week's challenge by Ted DiBiase & Barry Windham!
MATCH #1 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin (w/ Precious)
Duggan came within an eyelash of winning the Television Title last week, but he was right back in action this week taking on Jimmy Garvin. Gorgeous Jimmy has looked great since breaking out on his own again, and honestly, he looked better than you might think against Hacksaw. Garvin was trying to get Duggan frustrated by hitting and running, dipping to the outside when Duggan would try to get a hold of him. Hacksaw finally had enough and went to the floor too, knocking Garvin around. Unfortunately for Duggan, he lost track of the count, and both men were counted out. Hacksaw jumped back in the ring and pleaded with Joey Marella, but this match was over. Niemiller commented on how stupid Duggan was to get counted out like that. Monsoon was not happy with that, but did mention that these recent frustrations could be building up for Hacksaw.
Jim Duggan and Jimmy Garvin battled to a double countout in 0:03:21. Rating: 1/2*
THE POWER COMPANY ANSWER THE CHALLENGE
Backstage now with Jimmy Hart's team of Dino Bravo & Hercules, the Power Company, standing by with Lord Alfred Hayes. Hayes asked for their answer to the challenge laid forth by Ted DiBiase & Barry Windham a week ago. The Mouth of the South cackled and said it was laughable to think that DiBiase & Windham could get along to best the most dominant team in wrestling, the Power Company. Hart makes comments about how Windham was right and DiBiase is selfish, and that DiBiase will stab Windham in the back as soon as he turns it. Bravo & Hercules talked next and each said something not fully coherent, but the gist of it was clear - challenge accepted. The match will take place tonight in Pittsburgh.
MATCH #2 "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) vs. John Centeno
Arn Anderson will be in the big 6-man tonight, and he looked good making short work out of John Centeno today.
Arn Anderson pinned John Centeno with the Gourdbuster in 0:02:01. Rating: * 1/2
MATCH #3 Rick Martel vs. Ron Shaw
Rick Martel was all business today. No smile, no wasted motion, clearly focused on Ricky Steamboat tonight. Poor Ron Shaw got caught by this buzzsaw and had no chance against Martel.
Rick Martel made Ron Shaw submit to the Boston Crab in 0:03:04. Rating: * 1/2
After the match, RICKY STEAMBOAT & BOBBY HEENAN came out, but they made sure to stay far away from the ring. They also had a microphone. The Brain ran Martel down as a choke artist, and a man full of excuses. He made light of Martel claiming that it was Steamboat who cost him the World Title at Super Cade II when in actuality, he lost because he can't win the big one. Martel was practically foaming at the mouth, begging Steamboat to come down to the ring and fight him. The Dragon started that way but turned back, grabbing the mic and saying he would kick Martel's butt tonight instead, leading to a lot of boos from the audience and an enraged Martel in the ring.
JUNKYARD DOG HAS A MESSAGE FOR HONKY TONK MAN
Lord Alfred Hayes caught up with Junkyard Dog backstage. JYD had a few choice words for Honky Tonk Man, namely that he doesn't believe for a second that HTM "accidentally" pulled his tights to win last week. Hayes brought up HTM saying that he would be in JYD's corner tonight in his match against Jimmy Garvin. JYD made it very clear - "If you come down to the ring, Honky, I'm going to take a bite out of you."
MATCH #4 "Adorable" Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Paul Christy
Adrian Adonis was as flamboyant as ever, makeup caked on to a ridiculous degree. Paul Christy looked like he didn't even want to touch Adonis, but the Adorable One did that for him by perpetrating an all out assault to pick up a quick win on the program.
Adrian Adonis made Paul Christy submit to the Goodnight Irene in 0:02:30. Rating: 1/4*
LIVE EVENT REPORT W/ GENE OKERLUND
Not a lot of new news today on the LER. "Mean" Gene ran down tonight's card, shilled the chance for surprises and potential title changes, etc. - anything to get people to buy tickets. He did mention that next week on Superstars, the first matches for our Tacoma debut would officially be announced.
MATCH #5 The Barbarian vs. Sgt. Slaughter
This was a feature match the audience was really looking forward to. The Barbarian has stormed GCW and quite frankly beaten up everybody who has gotten in his way. He has never faced anyone like Sgt. Slaughter though, who is one of the most dangerous wrestlers in all the world. But even someone has tough as Slaughter didn't know how to contend with the brute force of The Barbarian. Slaughter kept trying to overpower The Barbarian, and The Barbarian kept turning the tables and over powering Slaughter. It was when The Barbarian showed his greatest feat of strength when he had Slaughter over his head in a Gorilla Press, which is when STAN HANSEN ran in and nailed Barbarian in the back with his cowbell to cause the blatant disqualification!
The Barbarian defeated Sgt. Slaughter by disqualification in 0:05:10. Rating: * 3/4 [Stan Hansen interfered against The Barbarian.]
The Unholy Alliance was looking to put The Barbarian out of commission, but they didn't get much of a chance to as THE ROAD WARRIORS ran down and helped Barbarian clear the ring of Slaughter & Hansen. The broadcast went off the air with Barbarian, Hawk, & Animal standing tall in the ring.
Be sure to tune in next week! We will have the fallout from tonight's Pittsburgh show, and the first announcement of contests for our Tacoma debut! In action will be Ricky Steamboat, as well as Bad News Brown! Animal of The Road Warriors will meet Big John Studd, and in the main event, Tully Blanchard defends the Television Title against former World champion Bob Backlund!

Solid opener. Keeps them both looking strong despite Ventura burying Duggan on commentary. Doesn’t look like this is the beginning of anything though.
If I hadn’t bought a ticket for Pittsburgh already, I am now. That tag match should be excellent!
Daaaamn Double A! Get it!
If I’m remembering correctly, Steamer talking on the mic here was the first time actual words were spoken between he and Martel. This feud is great.
Oh! JYD can make all the threats he wants by HTM WILL be there.
I would love to see Adonis in a high profile feud before his career/life ends. He’s one of my all time favs.
The build for Barb and the history of Slaughter is enough to give me goosebumps just seeing these two scheduled to wrestle. I would love to see more of these and we might now that the Hansen and the Road Warriors hit the ring. Hell of a tv main event my friend!
Stoked for Pittsburgh. That card looks so good on paper and should deliver.
