April 1988
Just days after Wrestlemania IV, and the tournament to decide the next WWF Champion, WWF owner Vince McMahon announced a revolution in wrestling. From now on, there would be no “jobbers” feeding easy victories to the “Superstars” of the WWF in weekly tv shows with no real meaning or point. The wrestling calendar would still feature the 4 main pay-per-view events (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series), together with Wrestlefest each summer and the King of the Ring annual tournament, which would now be a new pay-per-view each year. Finally, Saturday Nights Main Event would be show every two weeks. Therefore the quantity of wrestling on tv would reduce, but the quality would increase significantly, creating a new age of excellence for wrestling fans all over the world!! Talking of the world, the WWF would also be travelling the globe performing at live events in places like Europe, Japan and Australia! Making the announcement at a press conference McMahon said he hoped this would take WWF to a whole new level of competition and set the standard for wrestling for years to come. Finally, McMahon announced he would be taking over the responsibilities of WWF President from the current incumbent, Jack Tunney, who many had seen as a puppet figure for McMahon anyway.

Losing both steamboat and bigelow right out of the gates hurts. Glad you stuck to the script so to speak.
