Backstory:
On May 2, 1973, in one of the most shocking moments in wrestling history, Bruno Sammartino was legitimately double-crossed out of the World Title by GCW promoter Marvin Niemiller. The fall-out was immediate, with Sammartino filing a lawsuit against Global Championship Wrestling for their actions and some wrestlers leaving the promotion over the situation. However, the biggest event occurred later that month with a riot occuring during a Pittsburgh card promoted by GCW that resulted in the police being called in to control the situation, 8 arrests and several minor injuries to fans. Due to the unfortunate situation that occurred, GCW was informed that they were no longer allowed to promote in Pittsburgh and that the man considered as the main instigator of the riot, Pedro Morales, was given a lifetime ban from wrestling in the city.
In the wake of this unfortunate incident, Sammartino (who had made statements to the press that he appreciated the fans’ support and passion, but did not condone how the situation got out of control) was approached by a local businessman named Paul Stevens. Stevens had been a long-time wrestling fan and was worried that the city of Pittsburgh would be left out in the cold of future wrestling events. He approached Sammartino with the initial intent of promoting some local cards, but by the end of their conversation Stevens and Sammartino had agreed to form their own promotion. The promotion would help fill the void left in the Pittsburgh wrestling scene and was also an opportunity for Sammartino to stick it to GCW by establishing a competitor to them.
Sammartino and Stevens went to work and started contacting wrestlers about coming in to work for them. One of the principles Stevens established for his company was that wrestlers were allowed more freedom to work for other promoters while they were in UWC, as long as they cleared it ahead of time with the head office and that UWC would be their priority while working there. This principle ran counter to GCW (which limited their wrestlers’ ability to work for other promotions) and was met with positive approval from the wrestling community. Initial plans were for the company to be called Universal Championship Wrestling (UCW) as a direct and obvious jab at GCW. One day before the announcement press conference, Stevens decided that it would be best to try to establish a more distinct company identity and changed it to UWC, the Universal Wrestling Council.
A press conference was held on July 18, 1973 to formally announce the new promotion and state that the company’s first show would be held in Pittsburgh on September 8th. The inaugural card will be headlined by a 20 man battle royale and confirmed participants include Bruno Sammartino, Jay Strongbow, Wahoo McDaniel, Mil Mascaras, Killer Kowalski, Terry Funk, Dory Funk Jr. and Harley Race. Stevens also revealed that the UWC will sanction and recognize a World champion, a World Tag Team champion and a North American champion. The tournaments for these titles are scheduled to be conducted during the remainder of 1973. With this new promotion open for business, the wrestling landscape better watch out!

Just a head’s up, although the circuit’s backstory is inspired by an event in the GCW universe, the UWC is not officially part of the GCW universe (although I am posting the circuit with Snabbit’s go ahead). As such, feel free to consider it as “unauthorized supplemental material” to the excellent GCW universe being run by Snabbit, Joshi and Vertigo. I hope this circuit is at least half as good as the circuits that all of you on the board run. Let’s have fun!

Gl with this. Seems like a solid idea. Like that your not granting a title show one. Its unique in a way. Let's you build a following before handing out a "world" title. Also is unique because if someone noshows ur event but are on the roster for another universe fed then its like, they chose that feed over yours and punishments, could bee, more harsh. Also the other leagues have strict policies against working for others so does that limit who u can bring in at any given time?

This will definitely hold my interest. Can't wait to see how this all plays out. Good story leading up to the creation of the circuit.

Thanks to everyone for their positive comments. I’ll post the debut show shortly. I did not do a tournament on the first card, since I’m using the “month and a half” between the press conference and debut show to promote and create buzz for UWC (and to allow time to work on securing arenas, dates and talent). Then I can use that as a springboard to create more buzz for the wrestlers and tournament (which you can expect for the second card).
The wrestler availability rules for the UWC will work as follows:
1) Any GCW contracted wrestler is off limits while active and under contract to them during the relevant time period. There is no way we would work together after what they did to Bruno and with a pending lawsuit (and Snabbit has established that GCW does restrict their talent’s availability considerably without prior working agreements). That means that there won’t be an overlap due to the lingering hostility between Bruno (part owner) and the Niemillers.
2)The “freedom to work” provision helps with the following:
a. Helps UWC get talent early on (we are new, so we need something besides sticking it to GCW that will help sell us to the wrestlers ;D). This also facilitates possible alliances (or problems) with other territories if our policy is more open (if San Francisco wants some of our guys for the Cow Palace battle royale, they could work the card without needing to have UWC directly involved).
b. It adds the dimension that, realistically, at this point in time some of the bigger names are likely involved heavily with other territories (ex. Funks in Amarillo, Race in St. Louis) and/or would not be willing to give up lucrative opportunities (ex. Mil Mascaras leaving Mexico completely) just to work for UWC.
c. Provides easier explanations for certain no-shows (ex. Mil Mascaras couldn’t make it tonight because he opted for some Mexico shows instead). This may have repercussions for the wrestlers.
d. Since I’m using the universe as a reference point, it adds another element (besides TNM) that can determine if a wrestler quits on me (guys could leave me high and dry for better offers).
e. Finally, in the odd event that anyone decides to add this to their GCW fanon, the provision helps reconcile wrestlers appearing in the UWC with other promotions that turn up in the actual universe (particularly in the case of the overlords deciding at some point to fill in historical gaps like the AWA and need talent for the feds). That explanation was longer than expected, but I hope that it clears up the rules I’m using.

Depending on how this all plays off with the time frame, this could realistically fit in with the universe pretty well. How far ahead are you simmed and written for UWC?

UWC Debut Show – September 8, 1973 Pittsburgh, PA
Tonight history will be made as we welcome everyone to the inaugural Universal Wrestling Council show here in Pittsburgh. We have a packed house ready for action so let’s head to the ring for our first bout.
MATCH #1: Larry Zbyszko vs. Killer Kowalski
Our first match is between promising rookie (and local boy) Larry Zbyszko against Killer Kowalski. Zbyszko is a protégé of Bruno Sammartino and shows great potential, but he is in there tonight against one of the most dangerous men in wrestling. Although Zbyszko put up a game effort, his inexperience showed and Kowalski took advantage to eventually slap on his devastating Stomach Claw for the submission. A win for Kowalski in our first ever match.
Killer Kowalski made Larry Zbyszko submit to the Stomach Claw in 0:10:33. Rating: ** 3/4
MATCH #2: Wahoo McDaniel vs. Dr. Bill Miller
Up next we have fan favorite Wahoo McDaniel taking on the veteran Dr. Bill Miller. This was an even match up early on, with Miller using some chicanery to get the advantage at certain points. In the end, Wahoo took control of the match and was able to put Miller away with his Indian Deathlock submission.
Wahoo McDaniel made Dr. Bill Miller submit to the Indian Deathlock in 0:16:49. Rating: **
MATCH #3: Tony Marino / Tony Parisi (w/ Arnold Skaaland) vs. Dick Brower / Tarzan Tyler
This tag match featured the brawling team of Bulldog Dick Brower and Tarzan Tyler taking on local favorites Tony Marino and Tony Parisi. Parisi and Marino are accompanied by their manager, the venerable Arnold Skaaland. Both teams are still gelling together but are game to take on the tag division. Brower and Tyler actually controlled most of the match but Marino was able to avoid a charge by Tyler and make the tag to his partner. One pier six brawl later, Parisi hit the Cannonball on Tyler and they were able to walk away with the victory.
Tony Marino and Tony Parisi defeated Dick Brower and Tarzan Tyler when Parisi pinned Tyler with the Cannonball in 0:15:58. Rating: * 1/2
MATCH #4: Rufus R. Jones vs. Angelo Poffo
Our next match features the “The Freight Train” Rufus R. Jones taking on “Mr. 6033” Angelo Poffo. This was an interesting match pitting the powerhouse Jones versus the wily Poffo. Jones has a devastating headbutt and Poffo’s strategy centered on avoiding it at all costs. As a result, Poffo went to the floor various times, which frustrated Rufus. This mounting frustration cost Rufus, when he had enough of Poffo bailing and chased him outside of the ring. Poffo seized the opportunity to slip back into the ring and surprise Rufus when he came into the ring with his Italian Neckbreaker for the pinfall victory.
Angelo Poffo pinned Rufus R. Jones with the Italian Neckbreaker in 0:17:47. Rating: 3/4*
MATCH #5: Jay Strongbow vs. Dory Funk Jr.
Dory Funk Jr. is considered one of the best wrestlers today, but tonight he has the challenge of the renowned Chief Jay Strongbow. These two ring generals had a great back and forth encounter, but a mistake from Strongbow allowed Dory to hook on the Spinning Toe Hold for the submission win.
Dory Funk Jr. defeated Jay Strongbow when Jay Strongbow passed out in the Spinning Toe Hold in 0:15:39. Rating: ***
MATCH #6: Mil Mascaras vs. Terry Funk
This match showcased two of wrestling’s best. Terry Funk is as volatile as he is talented. His opponent is none other than Mexican sensation Mil Mascaras, who has been wowing the U.S. crowds with his lucha libre style. This was expected to be an interesting match-up of different styles. What was unexpected is that barely 3 minutes in, Mascaras surprised Funk with a crucifix and earned the quick pinfall victory. Funk left the ring somewhat in shock, trying to figure out how was it possible that Mascaras could pull off such a pinning maneuver.
Mil Mascaras pinned Terry Funk after a crucifix in 0:02:51. Rating: ***
MATCH #7: The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons / Red Bastien) vs. Harley Race / Stan Stasiak
We are proud to feature here in UWC one of wrestling’s most exciting tag teams in the Flying Redheads. Their opponents are two of wrestling’s best in Harley Race and Stan Stasiak. Race in particular is seen by some experts as the best in the world. Although Race and Stasiak are great singles wrestlers, they had problems working together as a team and it allowed the Redheads to use their teamwork to gain the upper hand. The end came when a miscommunication by the heel team saw Stasiak accidentally nail his partner, leaving him open for Lyons’ Tomahawk chop and giving the Redheads the victory. Afterwards, Race seemed to have some words with Stasiak and stormed off. Looks like this team may be short lived.
Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastien defeated Harley Race and Stan Stasiak when Lyons pinned Race with the Tomahawk Chop in 0:17:02. Rating: ***
MATCH #8: Bruno Sammartino (w/Arnold Skaaland) vs. Killer Karl Kox
Our final singles match this evening sees the one and only Bruno Sammartino (in his triumphant return to his hometown) taking on a tough competitor in Killer Karl Kox. The crowd, upon seeing Bruno heading to the ring with his manager Arnold Skaaland, stood on their feet and cheered their heads off for their hometown hero. Kox gave Bruno a tough match but Bruno managed to hit a powerslam that knocked the wind out of Kox long enough to get the three count. Bruno acknowledged the rabid crowd, but had to get ready almost immediately for tonight’s final match.
Bruno Sammartino pinned Killer Karl Kox after a powerslam in 0:11:57. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #9: Inaugural 20-Man Battle Royale
To close out our inaugural show, a battle royale featuring all 20 of tonight’s combatants.
As our battle royale started, it appeared that most of the combatants seemed to pair up with their earlier opponents of this evening. One notable exception was Harley Race, who seemed to handle whatever wrestler decided to cross his path. His partner earlier in the evening Stan Stasiak, decided to go after both Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastien. This proved to be his undoing as Race did not come to his aid and Stasiak, as good as he is, can’t handle two top caliber wrestles as the Redheads. As a result, Stasiak was our first casualty in this battle royale.
x Lyons threw out Stan Stasiak in 0:04:53
The teams of Brower/Tyler and Marino/Parisi also seemed to gravitate towards each other early on and both teams tried to eliminate each other. An opening occurred when Tyler tried to hit Marino with a clothesline, which Marino ducked and Tyler instead hit his partner. Marino and Parisi managed to ward off Tyler and tossed the stunned Brower out.
x Marino and Parisi threw out Bulldog Brower in 0:07:42
The elimination proved to be costly for Marino, however, because Tyler quickly came up from behind an tossed him over.
x Tyler threw out Marino in 0:07:51
On the other side of the ring, Killer Karl Kox decided to go after Bruno Sammartino. Although Kox got some good shots in, Bruno managed to power him out.
x B. Sammartino threw out Killer Karl in 0:09:23
Meanwhile, Killer Kowalski was busy giving more punishment to young Larry Zbyszko. To Zbyszko’s credit, he managed to withstand Kowalski’s onslaught until Bruno came to his aid. Elsewhere, Angelo Poffo had decided to team up with Dr. Bill Miller early on, managing to ward off scuffles with Sammartino and Mil Mascaras. However, Rufus R. Jones eventually got his hands on him and managed to stun him with his Headbutt, allowing Rufus to eliminate Poffo.
x Rufus threw out A. Poffo after the Headbutt to the Head in 0:10:52
At this point, Strongbow and Dory Funk Jr. crossed paths and started exchanging blows. Eventually, Strongbow’s chops sent Dory reeling and Strongbow picked him up to throw him out. Terry Funk, seeing his brother in trouble, tried to go help but was cut off by Rufus. As a result, Dory was eliminated.
x Strongbow threw out D. Funk Jr. in 0:11:23
Seeing his brother eliminated caused Terry to turn up his intensity and he managed to knock Rufus out with a clothesline after dodging a headbutt. Almost immediately, Bill Miller eliminated Wahoo McDaniel.
x T. Funk threw out Rufus in 0:11:50 x B. Miller threw out Wahoo in 0:11:53
With almost half of the field eliminated, Race decided to make his move and went right after Bruno! The crowd got riled seeing these two go at it. While Race and Bruno were exchanging blows, Terry Funk went after Strongbow and Kowalski went after Zbyszko again. Still, all eyes were on Race and Bruno as they exchanged blows for nearly two minutes. However, Race got too wound up and charged at Bruno, with Bruno side stepping and Race tumbling to the apron. Race was not out and grabbed Bruno to punch him some more. After some punches, Race reared back for a headbutt. Bruno was ready for it, though, and countered with a forearm smash that sent Race off the apron to the floor. In a shocking development, Harley Race was eliminated.
x B. Sammartino threw out Race after a forearm smash in 0:13:24
Race was not happy about the elimination and tried to get back in the ring, but was eventually convinced to leave by the officials. While this was going on, Bruno moved on to help Zbyszko with Kowalski. On the other side of the ring Terry Funk was trying to avenge his brother’s elimination against Strongbow but was not faring too well against Strongbow’s chops. With Strongbow’s attention focused on Terry, he did not see Miller come up from behind and surprise him. This resulted in Miller eliminating Strongbow, a result Terry Funk was all too happy to see.
x B. Miller threw out Strongbow in 0:13:55
Terry Funk, still showing glee over Strongbow’s elimination, decided to try his luck with Bruno. Over in the other corner, the Redheads were trying to get Kowalski out, Tyler and Parisi were going at it and Zbyszko was recovering from Kowalski’s earlier onslaught. Mil Mascaras decided to engage Bill Miller and flustered him with some of his quick moves. Just when it seemed Mascaras had Miller on the ropes, Kowalski poked Red Bastien in the eye and kicked Red Lyons away from him. This caused Red Lyons to bump into Mil Mascaras, sending Mascaras to the mat and stunning Red Lyons. Miller seized the opportunity to sneak up on Billy Red Lyons and toss Lyons out.
x B. Miller threw out Lyons in 0:15:49
Kowalski, free from the Redheads, once again targeted Zbyszko. This time, Zbyszko was too beat up to fight off Kowalski and was tossed. Also, Parisi managed to get Tyler out after both had spent the bulk of the match tangling with each other.
x Kowalski threw out Zbyszko in 0:17:10 x Parisi threw out Tyler in 0:17:21
Kowalski grabbed Parisi and tried to throw him out but was saved by Mil Mascaras. Meanwhile, Bastien was hooked up with Miller, while Terry and Bruno were still going at it. Terry got a little too cocky when he managed to knock Bruno down and started taunting the crowd. This proved to be his undoing, as Bruno proceeded to get back up and hit him with a fierce clothesline that sent Terry over and out.
x B. Sammartino threw out T. Funk after a clothesline in 0:20:50
Terry, from ringside, started jawing at Bruno and actually tossed a chair into the ring. Bruno, having none of that, went outside through the ropes and chased him off. However, the chair throwing was enough to cause a distraction in the ring that Miller took advantage off. He delivered an elbow to Bastien and snuck up on Mascaras and Parisi, who almost had Kowalski out. Miller grabbed Mascaras from behind and managed to toss him over and out. He tried the same with Parisi, but Bastien had recovered and came to his aid. Kowalski, left alone decided to grab the chair and do some damage, but was stopped by Bruno. Miller, overwhelmed by Parisi and Bastien, was hiptossed out, ending a good run.
x B. Miller threw out Mil Mascaras in 0:24:27 x R. Bastien threw out B. Miller after a hiptoss in 0:25:03
While Miller was tossed out, Kowalski and Bruno were playing tug of war with the chair. Kowalski let go and the momentum sent Bruno backward towards the ropes and causing the chair to smack Bruno in the chest. Before Kowalski could attack Bruno, Parisi jumped on Kowalski to try to hold him off. However, they were near the ropes and Kowalski maneuvered Parisi over and out.
x Kowalski threw out Parisi in 0:25:42
Next, Bastien tried his luck against Kowalski and charged at him. Kowalski was ready, however, and dodged Bastien’s attempt. Off balance, Bastien tried to stop himself from going over, but Kowalski was right on him and, after a tussle, tossed him out.
x Kowalski threw out R. Bastien in 0:27:10
By this point, Bruno had recovered and was on his feet with the crowd cheering him on (the chair having been removed by Arnold Skaaland during this time). Kowalski and Bruno met up in the middle of the ring and, for the several minutes, a seesaw battle endured. In the end, even though he was bruised and battered, the hometown hero would not be denied. Bruno managed to eliminate Kowalski and win our inaugural battle royale!
x B. Sammartino threw out Kowalski in 0:36:48 Bruno Sammartino won a 20-man Battle Royal Rating: ****
Afterwards, an exhausted Bruno (joined by Arnold Skaaland) waved to the raucous crowd and thanked them for their support. We have definitely witnessed a successful and historic night here in Pittsburgh!
Join us next month as we visit Buffalo, NY on October 6, where we will crown the first ever UWC World champion. The UWC Championship Committee is reviewing tonight’s performances and will make an announcement in the coming week about the tournament participants.

I hope you guys enjoy the debut show. This and the next few cards will be a bit more wordy than what I would usually write due to establishing the wrestlers and the tournaments (and the battle royale).

First show. Here we go!
Kowalski still has a little bit of gas in the tank. Zbyszko is still young here, so a loss doesn't hurt him.
Wahoo gets a good win to get started too. Dr. Bill Miller was near the end of his career here. He was a legit heel in the 60s though. Will be a good guy to get people over.
Would have expected Tyler/Brower to go over here. Good to see a fiery face team though.
Randy Savage's dad! A nice nod to his 6033 situps record too. I hope to see Poffo have a decent run.
Dory Funk Jr. will probably be one of the top stars in UWC. A win over Strongbow is a good start on that front.
Mascaras winning isn't a surprise, given his reputation. It was a surprise that he won so quickly. Funk isn't really the type to let those things go without consequence, so I'm predicting this is only the beginning of this.
Flying Redheads look to be your top team of choice. Race is right to be pissed. He shouldn't be stuck in a tag team at this point. Kick Stasiak's ass, Race!
Not a chance in hell Bruno was losing the debut match he had for what is essentially his company.
Fun battle royal to end the show. Liked the continuation of all of the matches earlier in the night. Again, Bruno winning is the sensible decision. The company is going to be built around him, and he's looking strong coming out of the gates.

Thanks for the comments Snabbit! Since Marino has history with the Pittsburgh area (during his Battman hey day) I went with the crowd pleasing team for the debut show.
I'm going to be posting some anecdotes called Behind the Curtain (basically what you guys call Controversies) every once in awhile to add some color to the circuit.
Oh,and to answer your previous post, I'm only about three cards in in terms of cards written out. I do have 11 years worth simmed (the last card simmed would be in August of 84) and have planned out tentaively on paper (not yet simmed and could change depending on TNM's whims) through January of 85. I haven't simmed these yet because I run TNM on an old computer I have and I had to temporarily put in storage while doing some winter cleaning. Oh,and because I was trying to organize/work out on paper something big for that timeframe that I am hopeful of including.

Since you simmed out to August of '84, did you allow yourself to use NWF talent? Or is this circuit strictly going against GCW?
Makes sense that Bruno got Zbyszko a job. No way is he beating a guy like Kowalski at this point in his career though.
Don't know a whole lot about Bill Miller. Happy to see Wahoo pick up the win.
Surprised Marino and Parisi went over, but this sets up a probable rematch.
Pretty long match for Poffo and Rufus to not even deliver one star. Ouch. Like Ryan, I'm glad to see Savage's dad get some airtime.
Tough win for Dory. I hope you push him. He deserved more love than what he has done in the Universe.
Terry Funk is going to need some revenge after that humiliating loss.
Don't mind Race and Stasiak losing here since it looks like it will build up to some sort of feud between the two.
Bruno winning the main event and the battle royal makes sense since they are in Pittsburgh. I also liked that you ended the show with the battle royal. The writeup was very well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Can't wait to see some more.

Thanks for the feedback Joshi! Nope, not using NWF talent either.
It's fun seeing the speculation about what's going to happen knowing a bit about where things are headed already. Don't be surprised if certain things from the first show show are not followed up on since the first show was designed more as a crowd pleasing debut and as a showcase for certain wrestlers I wanted to establish with this target audience.

UWC World Title Tournament – October, 6 1973 Buffalo, NY
Tonight we’re in Buffalo to crown the first UWC World champion! As previously announced, we will have four matches to determine the final four tournament slots and the tournament itself this evening. UWC President Paul Stevens started off the evening by welcoming the capacity crowd in Buffalo and going over the tournament rules. The tournament will be single elimination. The qualifiers and tournament rounds will each have a set time limit for their matches (15, 20, 30, 45 and 60 minutes respectively). In the event of a time limit draw, no time extensions are to be granted. Once a match ends, the next match must start no more than 5 minutes after. Managers are not allowed at ringside tonight. Finally, the man who wins tonight’s tournament will be awarded the UWC World title. With the rules stated, let’s get to our first match.
MATCH #1 (QUALIFIER): Larry Zbyszko vs. Harley Race
It was a huge surprise when the Championship Committee unveiled the first 12 names for the tournament and Harley Race’s name was not among them. Race has been very vocal about his exclusion and you will find quite a few observers who would agree. As a result, Race was in no mood for his qualifying match and took it out on poor Larry Zbyszko. Nothing against Zbyszko, who shows a lot of promise, but it was obvious that Race was a man on a mission. In the end, Race’s aggressive onslaught was highlighted with a vicious suplex on the floor which led to Zbyszko being counted out. Race is now officially in the tournament.
Harley Race defeated Larry Zbyszko by countout in 0:05:45. Rating: *
MATCH #2 (QUALIFIER): Tony Marino vs. Stan Stasiak
Our second qualifying match saw Stan Stasiak secure the second available slot in the tournament over Tony Marino in a match that almost went the 15 minute time limit.
Stan Stasiak pinned Tony Marino with the Heart Punch in 0:14:12. Rating: ***
MATCH #3 (QUALIFIER): Jay Strongbow vs. Killer Karl Kox
Our third qualifier was a short, even sided affair that ended when Kox pushed the referee in the way of a Strongbow clothesline. Kox proceeded to hit Strongbow from behind and went for the cover, only for the referee to call for the bell and DQ Kox for putting his hands on the official.
Jay Strongbow defeated Killer Karl Kox by disqualification in 0:05:28. Rating: *
MATCH #4 (QUALIFIER): Rufus R. Jones vs. Dick Brower
Our final qualifier featured Rufus R. Jones clashing with Bulldog Dick Brower. This match was a brawling affair and saw Rufus get the pin when he surprised Brower with his famous Headbutt. We now have our tournament field set.
Rufus R. Jones pinned Dick Brower with the Headbutt to the Head in 0:07:43. Rating: 1/4*
MATCH #5 (FIRST ROUND): Billy Red Lyons vs. Harley Race
Our official first opening round match saw Harley Race wrestle his second match of the evening against the very capable Billy Red Lyons. These two met last month in tag team action and Race was looking to not be on the losing end again. Both men are no slouches in the ring, but Race’s ability led him to take the upper hand throughout the match. The finish happened when Race caught a charging Lyons with an elbowsmash that stunned him long enough for the pin. Race advances.
Harley Race pinned Billy Red Lyons after an elbowsmash in 0:19:18. Rating: ***
MATCH #6 (FIRST ROUND): Mil Mascaras vs. Angelo Poffo
Our second opening round match saw the sensational Mil Mascaras take on Angelo Poffo in a match that did not disappoint. Mil used his aerial maneuvers to keep Poffo off balance for most of the match, although all the credit in the world to Poffo for keeping up with such an unorthodox style and providing a hotly contested bout. In the end, the match belonged to Mil.Mascaras as he hit his Flying Cross Body Press and earned a trip to the next round to face Harley Race.
Mil Mascaras pinned Angelo Poffo with the Flying Cross Body Press in 0:12:35. Rating: ****
MATCH # 7 (FIRST ROUND): Red Bastien vs. Stan Stasiak
In another rematch of sorts from last month, Stan Stasiak faces off against Red Bastien. Although Bastien is well known for tag team wrestling, he is no slouch in singles and gave Stasiak a tough encounter. Stasiak’s ace in the hole is his devastating Heart Punch, which he surprised Bastien with to get the victory. That’s two matches Stasiak has wrestled that have gone longer than he would like if he intends to go all the way in this tournament.
Stan Stasiak pinned Red Bastien with the Heart Punch in 0:16:19. Rating: *** 1/4
MATCH #8 (FIRST ROUND): Wahoo McDaniel vs. Tarzan Tyler
The first round continues as Wahoo McDaniel takes on Tarzan Tyler. Tyler is a brawling type of wrestler, but few can match Wahoo’s combination of power and wrestling skill. Although Tyler gave a great effort, Wahoo managed to subdue him with his Indian Deathlock and earn a trip to the next round to face Stan Stasiak.
Wahoo McDaniel defeated Tarzan Tyler when Tarzan Tyler passed out in the Indian Deathlock in 0:18:35. Rating: **
MATCH #9 (FIRST ROUND): Tony Parisi vs. Dory Funk Jr.
One of the tournament favorites, Dory Funk Jr. takes on Tony Parisi as the first round continues. As the match started, Dory showed us why he is considered one of the best wrestlers in the world, setting the pace early. Parisi, to his credit, was fired up for this tremendous opportunity and hung in there. As the match went on, Dory started getting frustrated that Parisi had not been put away, particularly since the time limit was ticking away. This frustration resulted in Terry Funk coming out to “support” his brother. Eventually, Dory managed to maneuver Parisi outside and distract the referee so Terry could try to inflict damage on Parisi. This brought out Jay Strongbow, to even up the sides and force Terry to back off. Terry, being his usual calm self, decided to hurl insults at Strongbow which caught the referee’s attention. While the referee was warning Terry to stay out of the action, Dory went outside to toss Parisi back in and shoved Strongbow to the floor. Strongbow did not react well to this and hooked Dory’s leg as he was trying to slam Parisi, causing Dory to fall down with Parisi on top. This produced a near fall. This was enough for Terry, who lunged at Strongbow and the two proceeded to fight up the aisle as Dory took control of the match again. This entire fracas almost cost Dory the match, as precious time kept ticking away while the referee called in officials to help break up the fight between Strongbow and Terry. In the end, Dory was able to get the submission with his patented Spinning Toe Hold seconds before time ran out. A close call for Dory Funk Jr, but he advances.
Dory Funk Jr. made Tony Parisi submit to the Spinning Toe Hold in 0:19:58. Rating: *** 3/4 [Jay Strongbow interfered against Dory Funk Jr..]
MATCH #10 (FIRST ROUND): Rufus R. Jones vs. Terry Funk
Officials finally came out to break up the fight between Strongbow and Terry Funk. Both men were warned that if they did not stop fighting it would result in expulsion from the tournament. Strongbow went back to the locker room, while Terry headed towards the ring as his match with Rufus R. Jones was next. Although Terry is a top competitor, he was somewhat unfocused during this match, as his mind appeared to be on the earlier fight with Strongbow. Rufus was able to capitalize on this and connected with his signature Headbutt, which sent Terry Funk sprawling out through the middle ropes and knocked him loopy enough for the referee to administer the ten count.
Rufus R. Jones defeated Terry Funk by countout in 0:10:33. Rating: 1/2*
MATCH #11 (FIRST ROUND): Jay Strongbow vs. Killer Kowalski
The next match featured the dangerous Killer Kowalski taking on Jay Strongbow, who has had a busy night so far. One would figure that Strongbow was at a disadvantage, having wrestled once and gotten into a fight earlier in the evening, but no one backs down when the chance to be the World champion is at stake. Unfortunately for Strongbow, trouble struck when his qualifier opponent, Killer Karl Kox, made an appearance. He appeared to still hold a grudge over his earlier qualifier loss and proceeded to trip Strongbow when the referre’s attention was diverted by Kowalski. From there, it was all academic as, Kowalski slapped on his dreaded Stomach Claw and got the win. Afterwards, it appeared that Kox and Kowalski were going to do more damage to Strongbow, but thankfully Wahoo McDaniel ran out to chase them off before they could do so.
Killer Kowalski made Jay Strongbow submit to the Stomach Claw in 0:06:49. Rating: ** 1/4 [Killer Karl Kox interfered against Jay Strongbow.]
MATCH #12 (FIRST ROUND): Bruno Sammartino vs. Dr. Bill Miller
Our final opening round match-up featured Bruno Sammartino against Bill Miller. This was a very good encounter between two professionals who have reached the top of the mountain before and would love nothing better than to do so again. Only one man would be able to advance one step closer to that goal and that man turned out to be Bruno Sammartino when he slapped on a sleeperhold that put Miller away.
Bruno Sammartino made Dr. Bill Miller submit to a sleeperhold in 0:16:24. Rating: *** 3/4
MATCH #13 (SECOND ROUND): Harley Race vs. Mil Mascaras
Our second round begins with what some observers would call a dream match-up between the quickness and lucha style of Mil Mascaras and the more grounded, brawling fortitude of Harley Race. Both men approached the match somewhat tentatively, showing familiarity with their respective opponent’s reputation and not wanting to make the first critical mistake. This approach worked well in keeping each other at bay. So well, in fact, that it turned out that the clock was Race and Mascaras biggest foe, as they fought each other to a time limit draw. After the match, both men were visibly upset that their golden opportunity had slipped away and were adamant for a time extension, even though the tournament rules disallowed them. However, since both men seem eager to battle again, we can announce that a rematch has been signed for next month in Cleveland. And this time there will be no time limit.
Harley Race and Mil Mascaras battled to a draw in 0:30:00. Rating: *** 1/4
MATCH #14 (SECOND ROUND): Stan Stasiak vs. Wahoo McDaniel
While the time limit draw was bad news for Race and Mascaras, it was good news for Stan Stasiak and Wahoo McDaniel. Whoever won this match would get an automatic by into the finals and have additional rest time. This could be especially good for Stasiak, who had already wrestled two matches tonight compared to Wahoo’s one. Sensing a window of opportunity, Stasiak jumped Wahoo just as he was entering the ring and went full blast, trying to end the match quickly. Wahoo managed to get Stasiak off of him and send him towards the ropes, but Stasiak ducked a Wahoo clothesline on the rebound and surprised him with his Heart Punch. As a result, Stasiak is in the finals and a visible expression of glee was evident as he made his way to the back.
Stan Stasiak pinned Wahoo McDaniel with the Heart Punch in 0:04:05. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #15 (SECOND ROUND): Dory Funk Jr. vs. Rufus R. Jones
Our next second round match features Dory Funk Jr. taking Rufus R. Jones, the man who eliminated his brother Terry. Dory is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world, but it was Rufus who set the tone early by turning it into a brawl. The action eventually spilled outside and, once again, Rufus surprised a Funk with his Headbutt. As he tried to make his way back into the ring, Terry Funk came out and tried to jump him. Rufus saw him coming and knocked him down with some punches. Again, Rufus tried to enter the ring, but Terry held onto his leg from the floor, outside of the referee’s sight. Meanwhile, Dory had staggered up and tried to enter the ring. Unfortunately for Dory, he made it back a second too late and both he and Rufus were counted out. This means we will have another bye into the finals!
Dory Funk Jr. and Rufus R. Jones battled to a double countout in 0:13:36. Rating: *** [Terry Funk interfered against Rufus R. Jones.]
MATCH #16 (SECOND ROUND): Killer Kowalski vs. Bruno Sammartino
Our last second round match has now become more important, as the winner will go straight to the finals and meet Stan Stasiak. From what we are hearing, Stasiak is not happy at all with the sudden turn of developments resulting in another bye. Bruno and Kowalski are no strangers to each other, having had a heated altercation last month in our inaugural battle royale. With the stakes high, both men wasted no time laying into each other. As was the case last month, both men were evenly matched. Thus, the match came down to who made a mistake first, which turned out to be Kowalski. Having Bruno down, Kowalski decided to yell at the fans before going after Bruno again. Those precious seconds were enough for Bruno to surprise Kowalski with a powerslam for the three count.
Bruno Sammartino pinned Killer Kowalski after a powerslam in 0:10:24. Rating: ** 1/2
As Bruno had his arm raised by the referee, Kowalski jumped him from behind. Arnold Skaaland came out to help Bruno but got knocked down by Kowalski for his troubles. Kowalski then continued to attack Bruno, upset that he had lost his chance to become the champion. After a few moments, UWC officials managed to get Kowalski off of Bruno and out of the ring. Skaaland checked on Bruno, who was definitely worse for the wear after Kowalski’s attack. Skaaland was trying to help Bruno up when Stan Stasiak made his way into the ring and grabbed the ring announcer’s microphone. Stasiak started complaining that enough time had passed since the previous match had ended and demanded that the finals start right now! Stasiak said it was not his problem if Bruno was hurt and that if he couldn’t compete, Stasiak should be declared the winner by forfeit. Like him or not, Stasiak does have a point based on the tournament rules. Bruno, even though he was still shaken by Kowalski’s attack and was still sitting on the mat, would have to wrestle right now.
MATCH #17 (FINALS): Stan Stasiak vs. Bruno Sammartino
You have to admire the heart of Bruno Sammartino for continuing on after that attack by Kowalski. This underscores just what is at stake, the chance to be the first ever UWC World champion. However, Stasiak was on him quickly when the bell rang and did not give him chance to reach a stand up position. After a minute of this onslaught, Stasiak set Bruno up for the Heart Punch. As he reared back for the punch, Stasiak yelled out to the crowd that Bruno was nothing and that he was going to be the champ. As Stasiak threw the punch, the gloating session had provided Bruno time to set himself and block the blow. Bruno proceeded to grab a surprised Stasiak and lift him over with a powerslam that knocked the wind out of him. Three seconds later, the crowd blew the roof off of the building as the first UWC champion was crowned!
Match for the vacant UWC World Title: Bruno Sammartino pinned Stan Stasiak after a powerslam in 0:01:26. Rating: ** (Bruno Sammartino won the UWC World Title.)
A raucous ovation ensued from the crowd for Bruno, as Arnold Skaaland joined him in the ring in celebration. A disgruntled Stan Stasiak left the ring, loudly complaining that the match should be thrown out since Skaaland was still at ringside for it. UWC President Paul Stevens came down to the ring to make the official presentation of the UWC World title belt to Bruno Sammartino. We ended tonight’s action with Bruno holding the belt high as the crowd cheered on.
The Wrap-Up:
Another historic night awaits us next month in Cleveland, as we will hold a tournament to crown the first ever UWC World Tag Team champions. In addition, Bruno Sammartino will make his first UWC World title defense against the man he defeated in the tournament finals, Stan Stasiak. We will also see the rematch between Harley Race and Mil Mascaras. Join us on November 3rd in Cleveland!

Let's see who gets crowned the first World champion... I've grown to really enjoy Zbyszko, but Race is a much bigger star at this point and needed to qualify for the tourney. That doesn't bode well for Stasiak to take 15 minutes to win his qualifier. No problem with Strongbow winning, but just so you know, the qualifier went over 15 minutes. And Rufus R. Jones rounds out the field. Race advances to the quarters. He's still going to have a hard time making it very far in the tourney though. Mascaras got a 4-star match? Yikes. Well done there. He'll probably beat Race in the quarters. So far it's not hurting the guys who had to qualify to get in the tourney with Stasiak moving on as well. Wahoo was one of my favorites to at least go far in the tourney, so glad he moved on. Glad you set up some feuds going forward. That was a great showing by Parisi, taking Dory Jr. almost to the time limit. And the first real shock of the tourney, Rufus R. Jones beats Terry Funk. Did not see that coming. And finally someone from a qualifier loses. Not a good draw for Strongbow against Kowalski. Kox getting involved surely didn't help either. Yeah, Bruno's not losing round 1. Huh. Time limit draw was probably the best way to go with Race/Mascaras. Race isn't quite ready for the World Title, and Mascaras isn't really a World champ type guy in the States. I wouldn't have predicted Stasiak making it to the finals. Looks like you have bigger plans for him than I ever did. Wow... another draw? What is this, the WWF tourney for the IC Title in 1990? Someone else caught a break. Bruno, I'm guessing. And yes, Bruno it is. He's clearly the favorite to win this thing. Kowalski keeping the attack up though puts some more doubt into this final though, which is good. Wow... in just over a minute. Not a problem with that - fitting for the time period. Again, Bruno winning is predictable, but that's not a bad thing by any means. Good stuff.

What do you mean that Strongbow's qualifier went over the time limit? I don't know what you're looking at, but I see a nice, short sub 6 minute match, ;D
In all seriousness, thanks for the heads up. Man is it a pain proofreading a 17 match card. I swear I had that fixed (the match description even references a short match). Thankfully, the next cards are a more reasonable length.
Some of the results of the first few cards are geared to establish credibility for some of the wrestlers I plan to position in that upper midcard slot. I'm operating on the assumption that certain wrestlers are already well known and established in the area (Bruno, Wahoo, Terry, Dory, Strongbow, Kowalski), some have the reputation but have rarely been seen in the area (Race, Mascaras), some have been seen but have to be made credible (Stasiak, to a lesser extent Marino and Parisi) and some are other territory wrestlers that are making their first notable foray into the region (Rufus, the Redheads, Poffo, Brower, Tyler, Miller, Kox). The one exception is a rookie Larry Zbyszko, who has the hometown boy and apprentice hook.
Stasiak's showing definitely helps make him more credible for the future and Mascaras, Parisi and Rufus get a boost from getting one over/hanging with the Funks (I'm sure the Funks will bounce back just fine so they made the best choice to help get some of the faces established).
Hopefully I'll get into a writing groove now that the longer first cards are out of the way. Oh, and I owe you guys feedback!

Looks like we're headed into a long night of action.
Figured Race would qualify pretty easily. I expect him to make it close to the finals, but not quite make it.
Stasiak winning was no surprise, but the amount of time it took him makes me think he may not last very long.
I love Rufus' finisher. Headbutt to the Head.
I miss wrestling in these days when a win after an elbowsmash was the norm.
Mascaras advancing does not bode well for Race later.
Even if Stasiak doesn't win the tournament, his marathon matches should help get him over some for having incredible endurance.
A tougher match than I expected for Dory to get to the next round. A Strongbow/Funks feud came along logically.
Terry Funk had to be tired after his brawl with Strongbow. No surprise then that he was counted out in his match with Rufus.
Hmm...with Kox and Kowalski and now the Funk Brothers, looks like Strongbow and Wahoo might be biting off more than they can chew.
Sammartino is probably taking the title. No way was he getting booted out of the tournament in the first round.
That's one way to get rid of Mascaras. A rematch is going to be interesting. We'll see if you can talk Mil into taking a loss.
Stasiak making it to the finals was a bit of a surprise to me.
Don't really like the fact that there were two byes to the finals. Doesn't feel right.
Kowalski attacking Bruno after the match will setup a feud with Bruno after the tournament. And Stasiak coming out to take advantage of the rule where a match has to start a few minutes after the previous one was a nice touch.
Bruno makes complete and total sense as the first champion. No problems with it. He now has a rematch with Stasiak and a feud with Kowalski.
A long show, but it sets up some feuds nicely.

UWC World Tag Team Title Tournament – November 3, 1973 Cleveland, OH
Tonight we make our debut in Cleveland to crown the first ever UWC World Tag Team champions!
MATCH #1 (FIRST ROUND): The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons/Red Bastien) vs. Dr. Bill Miller/Angelo Poffo
We start off our tag tournament with the Flying Redheads taking on the team of Dr. Bill Miller and Angelo Poffo. While Lyons and Bastien have been teaming for some time, Miller and Poffo are new to teaming with each other. That is not to say they are not capable tag wrestlers, as Miller (with brother Dandy Dan Miller) and Poffo (as half of the Devil’s Duo with Chris Markoff) have had tag success elsewhere. Still, there is no substitute for experience together and Miller and Poffo had problems in getting their teamwork timing down. As a result, the Redheads dictated the pace of the match and took advantage of a key miscommunication Miller and Poffo had in order to surprise Poffo with a dropkick and get the pinfall victory.
The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastien) defeated Dr. Bill Miller and Angelo Poffo when R. Bastien pinned A. Poffo after a dropkick in 0:10:53. Rating: ** 1/2
MATCH #2 (FIRST ROUND): Rufus R. Jones/Larry Zbyszko vs. Dick Brower/Tarzan Tyler
Our next match featured Bulldog Brower and Tarzan Tyler taking on the team of Rufus R. Jones and Larry Zbyszko. Two factors worked against Jones and Zbyszko, their inexperience as a team and the fact that Brower and Tyler where not above cheating to get an advantage. Still, Jones and Zbyszko gave as good as they got during this bout. Unfortunately, late in the match, Zbyszko made a rookie mistake by being lured into the wrong corner. As Tyler distracted the referee, Brower pulled Zbyszko outside of the ring and rammed him into the ringpost. Rufus tried to go and help his partner but was held off by Tyler as the referee counted Zbyszko out.
Dick Brower and Tarzan Tyler defeated Rufus R. Jones and Larry Zbyszko when Tyler defeated Zbyszko by countout in 0:16:57. Rating: * 3/4
MATCH #3 (FIRST ROUND): Jay Strongbow/Wahoo McDaniel vs. Killer Karl Kox/Killer Kowalski
The first round continues with the team of Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel taking on a pair of Killers named Kowalski and Kox. There’s some lingering tension from last month’s World title tournament, as Strongbow was eliminated by Kowalski with an assist from Kox. If it weren’t for the timely intervention of Wahoo McDaniel, things might have gotten bad for Strongbow. Both teams were not shy at all in going after each other, but the more polished teamwork of Strongbow and McDaniel was frustrating Kowalski and Kox. The frustration was such that Kox started choking Strongbow and wouldn’t break at the count of five, causing a DQ loss for his team. McDaniel came in to help his partner, and together they cleared the ring of Kox and Kowalski. Strongbow and McDaniel move on.
Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel defeated Killer Karl Kox and Killer Kowalski when Strongbow defeated Killer Karl by disqualification in 0:13:14. Rating: **
MATCH #4 (FIRST ROUND): Tony Marino/Tony Parisi (w/Arnold Skaaland) vs. The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk/Dory Funk Jr.)
Last month Tony Parisi almost took Dory Funk Jr. to the limit. They meet again this month, but in a tag setting. The Funks are looking to redeem themselves after an unsuccessful showing in the World title tournament last month, while Parisi and Marino are out to prove that they are legit as a team. As a result, this match was more of a sprint than one would expect. Although Parisi and Marino have gelled well as a team, the Funks have that brotherly bond that allows them to operate with clockwork precision. A tag cut-off here, a quick tag there allowed the Funks to establish control at key moments of the bout. In the end, a well placed knee to the back by Dory on an unsuspecting Marino gave Terry the opening to apply the dreaded Spinning Toe hold. Dory cut off Parisi from making the save and the submission came soon after. The Funks advance and will face Strongbow and McDaniel!
The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) defeated Tony Marino and Tony Parisi when T. Funk made Marino submit to the Spinning Toe Hold in 0:09:24. Rating: *** ¾
MATCH #5 (NO TIME LIMIT): Mil Mascaras vs. Harley Race
Our next match is the rematch between Mil Mascaras and Harley Race. These two went to the limit last month and it cost them an opportunity to be the first UWC World champion. This time, the clock won’t be a factor. The crowd was anticipating a great match up, but even then, these two exceeded all expectations by wrestling what is already looking to be the greatest match in UWC’s short existence. These two ring titans would not back down from each other, with Race trying to ground Mascaras and Mascaras finding a way to escape Race eventually. For over 30 minutes, Race and Mascaras engaged in an encounter that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. In the end, Mascaras fell victim to the old adage “You live by the sword, you die by the sword” when he missed his signature Flying Cross Body Press and Race took advantage of the opening to hit his devastating Piledriver for the win. The fans are sure to remember this classic encounter. Afterwards, Race let everyone know that he wanted a shot at the UWC World title and, after tonight’s win, it’s tough to argue against Race.
Harley Race pinned Mil Mascaras with the Piledriver in 0:33:31. Rating: *****
MATCH #6 (SEMIFINAL): The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons/Red Bastien) vs. Dick Brower/Tarzan Tyler
The first tag semifinal features the team of the Flying Redheads taking on Bulldog Brower and Tarzan Tyler. Brower and Tyler tried to use their brawling skill to set the pace, but where countered by Bastien and Lyons using their superior teamwork. This was a hotly contested battle, as both teams desperately wanted that that spot in the finals. In the end, the teamwork of the Redheads bested Brower and Tyler. After the match, Brower and Tyler tried to attack the Redheads, but were quickly dispatched. We have our first finalists.
Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons defeated Dick Brower and Tarzan Tyler when Lyons pinned Bulldog Brower with the Tomahawk Chop in 0:12:51. Rating: ** 1/4
MATCH #7 (SEMIFINAL): The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk/ Dory Funk Jr.) vs. Jay Strongbow/Wahoo McDaniel
Our other tag semifinal features the team of Strongbow and McDaniel taking on the Funks. Besides a spot in the finals being at stake, Strongbow and the Funks have had some altercations these past months, which adds more fuel to this matchup. Strongbow started off the match for his team, wanting to get his licks in on the Funks. As the match went on, it was apparent that Strongbow was less willing to tag out, wanting to get his hands on the Funks. Unfortunately, he ended up staying in the ring for longer stretches of time when tagged in. This frustrated his partner Wahoo McDaniel, whose focus was on winning tag gold, while also playing to the Funks advantage. The end came when Wahoo tried to help his partner out of a Funk double team and successfully knocked Terry out of the ring. At this point, the referee started escorting Wahoo back to the corner and did not see Terry jump back into the ring and nail an unsuspecting Strongbow with his boot. This allowed Dory to get the pinfall and the second spot in the finals.
The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) defeated Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel when D. Funk Jr. pinned Strongbow after being hit by a foreign object in 0:27:30. Rating: *** 1/4
MATCH #8 (WORLD TITLE): Bruno Sammartino (c) vs. Stan Stasiak
Our World title rematch is next. Stasiak has been complaining loudly over the past few weeks about the tournament final loss, saying that he had to wrestle a lot more than Bruno and that Skaaland was at ringside when he shouldn’t have been. Valid or not, Stasiak gets his chance tonight to back up his claims, as he takes on the champion Bruno Sammartino. Both men are rested and focused for the match. Additionally, Arnold Skaaland has opted not to accompany Bruno tonight, saying that Bruno will prove that Stasiak’s complaints are just hot air. Once the bell rang, it was obvious Bruno was eager to dispel Stasiak’s complaints and set the pace throughout the contest. Although Stasiak is a very capable grappler, it was Bruno that showed why he is the champion, earning the victory with his Sammartino Backbreaker. A successful first title defense for Bruno!
Bruno Sammartino made Stan Stasiak submit to the Sammartino Backbreaker in 0:17:08. Rating: ** 3/4 (Bruno Sammartino retained the UWC World Title.)
MATCH #9 (FINAL): The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons/Red Bastien) vs. The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk/ Dory Funk Jr.)
Our main event Is the finals for to crown the first ever UWC World Tag Team champions! The Redheads and the Funks have bested all other teams and now one of them will be champion. The Funks tried to get the jump on the Redheads early, instigating a fight with them as the Redheads were making their way to the ring. UWC officials managed to restore order, but not before Red Bastien was rammed into the ringsteps by Terry Funk. This produced a slight cut on Bastien’s forehead, which was not noticeable at first, but was opened up more by the Funks as the match went on. The Funks game plan was focused on targeting Bastien’s cut and to try to keep him in the ring. For the most part, the Funks were successful and, in the end, they were able to get the submission win over a weakened Red Bastien.
Match for the vacant UWC World Tag Team Titles: The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) defeated Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastien when D. Funk Jr. made R. Bastien submit to the Spinning Toe Hold in 0:17:17. Rating: *** 1/2 (The Funk Brothers won the UWC World Tag Team Titles.)
The Funk Brothers are the first ever UWC World Tag team Champions! As Billy Red Lyons helped his partner to the back, UWC President Paul Stevens made his way to ringside to present the Funks with the title belts. Whether you like them or not, this was an impressive showing by the Funk Brothers here tonight.
The Wrap-Up:
The championship committee has deliberated and has named Harley Race as the next challenger to the UWC World title! This match will take place in about six weeks’ time when we make our debut in Worcester. Additionally, the committee has indicated that we will have a rematch of our tag tournament finals that night. However, before then we will have a special Thanksgiving Day show in Pittsburgh. As of now, our main event will be a 6 man tag match with Harley Race and the Funks teaming up to take on Bruno Sammartino and the Flying Redheads. In addition, we will have a match between the two semifinal losing teams in the tag tournament and many more matches. Join us on Thanksgiving!

I am absolutely shocked at the rating of Race vs. Mascaras.

In most cases, the team with the name is going to beat the team without the name. Flying Redheads move on.
Tarzan/Brower are a nice set of heels. I actually regret never using them when I had the opportunity.
The Native Americans are former GCW World Tag Team champions. Of course they move on!
Funks moving on I approve of. I would have thought Funks vs. Strongbow/Wahoo would be your money match for the finals, but shouldn't take away from the match.
Holy shit... Mascaras in a 5-star match? Color me impressed. I'm as shocked as you are. Glad Race won too.
Redheads get the win which I'm okay with. They have a bit more upside right now.
Funks predictably win in their semi-final match, but didn't do so cleanly, which gives us more possibilities for rematches. I like this feud.
You did your best, Stasiak, but Bruno's not losing that title for awhile.
Right call on the tag titles. You helped elevate as Redheads as potential top-tier players, but the Funks needed to win. Just a lot more you can do with them right now.
Good show.

UWC Thanksgiving Show – November 22, 1973 Pittsburgh, PA
The UWC is in Pittsburgh today for a special Thanksgiving card. Before our first match, UWC President Paul Stevens addressed the crowd and, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, thanked the fans for their support of the Universal Wrestling Council so far. He also announced that next month the UWC will hold a tournament to crown the first ever UWC North American champion and that the participants and first round draw will be revealed shortly.
MATCH #1: Larry Zbyszko vs. Stan Stasiak
We start off our card with Stan Stasiak taking on Bruno Sammartino’s protégé Larry Zbyszko. Stasiak has some lingering frustration after losing two World title matches to Sammartino and appeared to want to take out some of his frustrations on Zbyszko. The rookie fought valiantly, but Stasiak was the aggressor throughout and picked up the victory.
Stan Stasiak pinned Larry Zbyszko after a gutwrench suplex in 0:10:22. Rating: *** 1/4
Afterwards, Stasiak picked up a microphone and stated that even though he was not the World champion, he would still be a champion next month because he was going to win the North American title tournament. The UWC committee confirmed afterwards that Stasiak is invited to take part in the tournament, so he’ll get his chance next month to prove that this claim is not full of hot air.
MATCH #2: Tony Parisi (w/Arnold Skaaland) vs. Dr. Bill Miller
Even though he is getting up there in years, Bill Miller remains a dangerous competitor in the ring. Perhaps his greatest asset is his experience, which was evident in his match against Tony Parisi in the way Miller would use some shortcuts to gain the upper hand while the ref’s attention as diverted. Parisi would get frustrated and yell at the ref about the choking and hair pulling, but the ref was never able to catch Miller in the act. Finally, the frustration boiled over for Parisi and he unleashed his fury once he trapped Miller in the corner. Unfortunately, Parisi was so caught up in his venting that he ignored the referee’s instructions to break and ended up getting disqualified.
Dr. Bill Miller defeated Tony Parisi by disqualification in 0:12:04. Rating: ** 1/2
Miller was finally able to get away from Parisi, but it was evident that he was not at all happy being on the receiving end of Parisi’s wrath. Whatever issues Miller and Parisi have may be on hold for now, as both men have been confirmed to be in the North American title tournament.
MATCH #3: Jay Strongbow / Wahoo McDaniel vs. Dick Brower / Tarzan Tyler
These two teams reached the semifinals in our World Tag Title tournament. Now, they face off in a match that could determine who could be the next challengers to the tag champions. Unlike earlier this month, Strongbow and McDaniel appeared to be more in synch. It’s a good thing they were, because their opponents, Bulldog Brower and Tarzan Tyler, are no pushovers and want just as badly to climb the tag rankings. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the contest and battled to a time limit draw. Even after the bell rang, the two teams continued to brawl and it took a few moments for order to be restored.
Dick Brower and Tarzan Tyler and Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel battled to a draw in 0:20:00. Rating: 3/4*
Due to the time limit draw, the UWC Championship Committee has signed a rematch between these two teams next month. The winning team will be named the number one contender to the UWC World tag team titles.
MATCH #4: Rufus R. Jones vs. Killer Karl Kox
Killer Karl Kox has shown to be an aggressive wrestler, but unfortunately this has not yet resulted in a victory for him in the UWC. Tonight would not be his night to get off the snide, as Rufus R. Jones surprised him with his famous Headbutt and got the win.
Rufus R. Jones pinned Killer Karl Kox with the Headbutt to the Head in 0:06:52. Rating: DUD
The news got even worse for Killer Karl Kox after the match. Due to his record so far in UWC competition, Kox has not been invited to take part in the North American title tournament. No word yet on how Kox reacted to this news. The news was better for Rufus who did get an invite to compete in the tournament.
MATCH #5: Tony Marino (w/Arnold Skaaland) vs. Killer Kowalski
Killer Kowalski has made his presence felt in UWC. He has gone toe to toe with Bruno Sammartino and left him hurting two months ago in their match in early October. Kowalski’s opponent tonight, Tony Marino is a good friend of Bruno, and is well aware of how dangerous Kowalski can be. Marino tried to stay way from Kowalski early on, but once Kowalski took control of the match it was tough going for Marino. In the end, Kowalski used his devastating Stomach Claw to earn the victory.
Killer Kowalski defeated Tony Marino when Tony Marino passed out in the Stomach Claw in 0:14:24. Rating: *** 3/4
Afterwards, we would learn that both Marino and Kowalski are to take part in the North American title tournament.
MATCH #6: Mil Mascaras vs. Angelo Poffo
Earlier this month, Mil Mascaras was on the losing end against Harley Race of what has to be considered the greatest match in UWC’s short history so far. Mascaras’ disappointment has been palpable, particularly since Harley Race has been named the top contender to the UWC World title based on that victory. Despite the loss, Mil’s efforts in that match have definitely increased his profile here in the UWC and the fans have really taken to him. His opponent tonight is Angelo Poffo, never an easy draw for any combatant. Mascaras seemed somewhat off tonight and Poffo was able to control most of the match. However, Poffo could not put Mascaras away and the acrobatic luchador was able to surprise Poffo with a cross body that sent both men outside of the ring. As both wrestlers fought outside, the ref administered the count and the match ended in a double countout.
Angelo Poffo and Mil Mascaras battled to a double countout in 0:11:24. Rating: ** 3/4
Both men were still exchanging blows after the bell rang but were separated by officials. Poffo and Mascaras might get a chance to go at it once more, as both men are in the North American title tournament.
MATCH #7: Billy Red Lyons/Red Bastien/Bruno Sammartino vs. Terry Funk/ Dory Funk Jr/ Harley Race
Our main event pitted the team of UWC World champion Bruno Sammartino and the Flying Redheads against Harley Race and UWC World Tag Team champions the Funk Brothers. It was clear that Race and the Funks had a clear plan for this match, target Red Bastien’s healing cut. To his credit, Bastien picked up on this and made sure to avoid getting trapped in the wrong corner when he was in there. The match was an even sided affair for the most part, with fans anxiously awaiting the moment when Bruno Sammartino and Harley Race would cross paths in the ring. For the first 16 minutes, Bruno and Race did not coincide in the ring. But late in the contest, Red Bastien managed to evade a Race clothesline and tag in Bruno. The crowd roared their approval as Race and Bruno stood face to face and proceeded to go at it. This did not last long as Terry and Dory Funk decided to jump in the ring and attack Bruno, prompting the Redheads to come in. A pier six brawl broke out and the referee tried his best to keep things under control. Eventually, an irate Terry Funk shoved the referee to the ground trying to get at Red Bastien, prompting his team to get disqualified.
Billy Red Lyons, Red Bastien and Bruno Sammartino defeated The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) and Harley Race when R. Bastien defeated T. Funk by disqualification in 0:19:19. Rating: ** 1/2
Terry continued attacking Bastien, trying to open up his cut again. Fortunately for Bastien, Bruno and Red Lyons came to his aid and cleared the ring of the Funks and Race. Terry tried to get back in the ring but Dory held him back, saying that they’ll get theirs next month. Meanwhile, Race just pointed at Bruno from outside and could be heard growling “Next month your title’s mine!”. Our show closed with Bruno and the Redheads standing in the ring and daring Race and the Funks to get back in as the fans cheered on.
The Wrap-Up:
We have a stacked card for our debut in Worcester. In addition to the anticipated World title match between Bruno Sammartino and Harley Race, the Funks will defend the World tag team titles against the Flying Redheads. Also scheduled are the North American title tournament and the rematch between Strongbow and McDaniel against Tyler and Brower. And in a late addition, Killer Karl Kox has challenged the equally winless Larry Zbyszko in order to prove that he is deserving of being considered among UWC’s best.
We hope to see you December 15th in Worcester!

11/3/73: Like Ryan said, can't believe you pulled a five star match out of Mascaras. I'm hoping that either the Funk Brothers or Wahoo/Strongbow take the tag straps. Stasiak is no slouch, but no one is taking the title off of Bruno for awhile. Good. The Funk Brothers make for fine tag team champs. 11/22/73: Zbyszko is easy foil for getting someone under Bruno's skin. I like it when a heel is good at cheating and isn't caught, but when a face tries it he is inexperienced and loses the match via DQ. Fun booking. Pretty sure it will be Wahoo/Strongbow coming out as the number one contender's after Worcester. I do like the team of Brower and Tarzan though. Oooh...interesting way to possibly start an angle with Kox. His losing record keeping him out of the North American Title tournament could lead to him interfering in a match or two. You're throwing everyone into that tournament it would seem. Not a huge fan of back to back non-finishes. Don't mind it if it is separated, but to end the show was a bit much. Can't wait to see Bruno lockup with Race.

Larry Z still has a ways to go before he's a top guy.
Well, the heels should learn not to frustrate Parisi with cheating - that's what happens!
Ugly tag match, and we don't have top contenders yet. I am picking the Native Americans to win the rematch.
Kox has been less than successful to say the least. Not invited to the NA tourney, but he might just show up uninvited.
Kowalski needs to be going for Bruno's title. Make it happen!
Like the fact that Mascaras/Poffo will continue. Not necessarily the double countout though.
I really enjoyed the tease of Bruno/Race, but kept them from really doing too much together. Could have done without the DQ in the main event though.

UWC House Show – December 15, 1973 Worcester, MA
Ho Ho Ho! The UWC is in Worcester to spread some holiday cheer and great wrestling action. The wrestling world has been abuzz about the two World title matches scheduled for tonight and so are the fans in the arena. Before beginning tonight’s action, UWC President Paul Stevens addressed the crowd and wished them a happy holiday season. He also went over the North American tournament rules, which are similar to the previous UWC World title tournament. The only notable exception is that seconds are allowed at ringside for this tournament (this is in response to Stan Stasiak’s non-stop complaining that Arnold Skaaland should not have been at ringside for the World title finals). The wrestler who wins tonight’s tournament will be awarded the North American title. With the formalities out of the way, let’s head to the ring for our first bout!
MATCH #1 (FIRST ROUND): Mil Mascaras vs. Dr. Bill Miller
Mil Mascaras’ flashy style and recent performances have quickly made him into a strong fan favorite here in UWC. Mascaras is looking to shed the disappointment of the previous month and has his sights set on the North American title. However, his draw tonight is none other than veteran Bill Miller. Miller has accomplished a lot throughout his distinguished career and would love nothing more than to add another accolade to his career résumé. Although Miller is quite crafty and resourceful, he really has not had that much experience handling Mil Mascaras quick and flashy wrestling style. Miller used a few veteran tricks to stay competitive, but Mascaras controlled the pace of this match and was able to surprise Miller with a double axhandle of the middle turnbuckle for the victory.
Mil Mascaras pinned Dr. Bill Miller after a double-axhandle chop in 0:12:41. Rating: ** 3/4
Mil Mascaras moves on and awaits the winner of our next match.
MATCH #2 (FIRST ROUND): Tony Parisi vs. Angelo Poffo
We almost had a physical altercation before our next match. Tony Parisi was coming out for his opening round match just as Bill Miller was returning back to the locker room. These two men had quite the hot tempered match last month and it was obvious that some bad blood still lingered. Miller and Parisi exchanged heated words as they passed each other in the aisle. Parisi continued on his way to the ring as Miller stared daggers at him before going to the back.
Parisi’s opponent in the first round is Angelo Poffo. Now, normally Angelo Poffo alone would be enough for one man to contend with, but around the 7 minute mark; Bill Miller came out from the back and started observing the match from the aisle. Parisi did not notice Miller, concentrating on Poffo. This would be Parisi’s undoing, as Poffo used a leverage move to fling Parisi through the ropes to the outside. As Parisi gathered himself to get back in, Poffo got the referee’s attention and Miller took this opportunity to blindside Parisi. Miller’s attack was enough to knock Parisi down and the oblivious ref counted Parisi out. Poffo advances and will Face mil Mascaras in the next round.
Angelo Poffo defeated Tony Parisi by countout in 0:11:25. Rating: * 3/4
Due to the attack on Parisi by Miller, a match between them has been signed for our New Year’s Day show in Rochester.
MATCH #3 (FIRST ROUND): Rufus R. Jones vs. Killer Kowalski Our first round action continues with the “Freight Train” taking on a Killer. However, when announced, Kowalski was not alone as he was accompanied by another Killer, Karl Kox! Kox is not taking part in the tournament, but it appears he is set on being involved one way or another. It was Rufus who defeated Kox last month and may have precipitated the non-invite. Upon seeing both Killers in the ring, Rufus went back to the locker room and emerged moments later with Larry Zbyszko. Zbyszko is scheduled to face Kox later on this evening, but right now Rufus hopes he serves as a neutralizer for any shenanigans Kox may be up to.
The match itself was a brawling affair, with Kowalski and Rufus being in control at different points of the contest. Kox tried to get involved a few times, but Zbyszko was right there to stop him. Finally, late in the bout, the ref was tied up by Kowalski and Kox picked his spot. He tripped up Rufus and dragged him outside to try to inflict some damage. Before Kox could get a blow in, Zbyszko cut him off. Kox fought off Zbyszko and went after Rufus again. However, Rufus had gained his bearings and delivered his signature Headbutt to Kox, knocking him loopy. As Zbyszko grabbed the staggering Kox, Kowalski came outside to get at Rufus. Both men proceeded to brawl outside, oblivious to the ref’s count. Kox and Zbyszko joined in the brawl and the ref counted Kowalski and Rufus out!
Rufus R. Jones and Killer Kowalski battled to a double countout in 0:15:57. Rating: * 1/4
As the bell rang, the four men were still fighting around the ring. Finally, Kowalski decided he was getting bored of the fight and left ringside. Kox tried to go after Rufus once more, but got another Headbutt for his troubles. Rufus and Zbyszko played to the crowd (to their delight), as Kox staggered to the back.
Due to the double countout, our final first round match will provide the winner with a bye to the finals.
MATCH #4 (FIRST ROUND): Tony Marino vs. Stan Stasiak
Stan Stasiak was a finalist in the UWC World title tournament and to hear him tell it he was robbed due to various “injustices”. He has vowed that he will win tonight and that he has taken steps to ensure that no other “injustices” befall him. What that means we’re not sure, but for all of Stasiak’s blubbering, he still has to back it up in the ring. Stasiak surprised Tony Marino by jumping on him right from the opening bell and not letting him get out of the blocks. Although there were some flashes from Marino, this match was mostly Stasiak and he eventually put away Marino with his Heart Punch.
Stan Stasiak pinned Tony Marino with the Heart Punch in 0:10:35. Rating: ** 1/4
With this win, Stasiak advances straight to the finals.
MATCH #5 (WORLD TAG TITLE): The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons/Red Bastien) vs. The Funk Brothers (C) (Terry Funk/ Dory Funk Jr.)
This is rematch of the tournament final. The Redheads are 100% ready for this match and look to avenge their defeat last month. This time, there is no cut for the Funks to exploit. Still, Terry and Dory are among the best in the world and you can bet they are looking to retain their championship gold.
The Flying Redheads surprised the Funks early on, putting them on the defensive throughout the early going. As the match progressed, The Funks managed to turn the tide with some well placed double teams and illegal switches. Their strategy appeared to be to isolate Red Bastien again. Although he was worked over, Bastien was able to make the hot tag to Red Lyons, who proceeded to handle both Funks. Eventually, Bastien joined his partner and were in control of the contest. During the melee, Red Lyons nailed Dory with his Flying Tomahawk and went for the pin. However, the referee was escorting Red Lyons pout of the ring, allowing Terry the opportunity to break up the pinfall. Red Lyons saw this and proceeded to go after Terry, shoving the referee out of the way! This caused the anxious ref to signal for the bell, disqualifying the Redheads!
The Funk Brothers (Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr.) defeated The Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastien) when T. Funk defeated R. Bastien by disqualification in 0:19:07. Rating: *** 1/4 (The Funk Brothers retained the UWC World Tag Team Titles.)
Bastien reached Terry and the two proceeded to brawl fiercely, spilling to ringside. Dory and Red Lyons tried to break it up, but it was apparent that Bastien was still mad over Terry’s previous actions in working his cut over. To hopefully settle this issue, a match between Terry Funk and Red Bastien has been signed for New Year’s Day.
MATCH #6 (SEMIFINAL): Mil Mascaras vs. Angelo Poffo
Our only semifinal match features Mil Mascaras tangling with Angelo Poffo. Both men have met before in our World title tournament and now they meet again in a title tournament setting. With Stan Stasiak waiting in the wings with a bye, both Mil and Poffo seemed intent on trying to get the match over with quickly. Unfortunately for Poffo, Mil Mascaras’ wrestling style lends itself for out of nowhere pinning maneuvers and Poffo fell prey to a quick Flying Body Press.
Mil Mascaras pinned Angelo Poffo with the Flying Cross Body Press in 0:02:23. Rating: ** 1/4
Mil Mascaras gets a much needed quick victory and moves on to the finals.
MATCH #7: Larry Zbyszko vs. Killer Karl Kox
Our next match features two wrestlers with interesting trajectories. Larry Zbyszko is a young promising rookie, the protégé of the World champion Bruno Sammartino. He has a lot of potential; it’s just a matter of getting more experience and refinement. His opponent, Killer Karl Kox, is an established pro who has not yet tasted victory in UWC. Kox is a formidable and aggressive grappler, but so far his over aggressiveness has cost him in terms of getting to the winner’s circle.
Both men were involved in an altercation earlier in the evening, which led to Kox receiving some Headbutts from Rufus R. Jones. It appeared early on that Kox may be suffering some effects from those blows, as he made some uncharacteristic mental errors in the contest when he seemed on the verge of taking total control of the contest from Zbyszko. To his credit, Zbyszko would take advantage of the openings Kox was giving him to stay competitive in the match. Over 9 minutes in, Zbyszko surprised Kox by putting him in a figure four leglock. Kox, showing his experience, tried to reach for the ropes to break the hold. However, in his over eagerness to reach the ropes, Kox did not notice that both his shoulders were down and the referee made the three count. Zbyszko wins!
Larry Zbyszko pinned Killer Karl Kox after a figure-four leglock in 0:09:53. Rating: ***
It took a moment but it dawned on the stunned Kox what had happened. Kox promptly tried to attack Zbyszko, but Zbyszko fought him off. Kox left the ring visibly angry and hurling threats at Zbyszko, saying that the win was a fluke. We’ll see if that is true, as both men will meet again in Rochester.
MATCH #8 (#1 CONTENDER’S MATCH): Jay Strongbow/Wahoo McDaniel vs. Tarzan Tyler/Dick Brower
On Thanksgiving, these two teams battled to a draw. Now, they face off once again with a title shot on the line. Both teams really want the title shot, but Strongbow and Wahoo have an extra incentive since winning would allow them another crack at the Funks. The team of Brower and Tyler would not be denied and both teams did not back down during the bout. When the Native Americans started drawing strength from the crowd support, Tyler and Brower started cutting corners in an attempt to hold their opponents at bay. In the end, these tactics were their undoing. Tarzan Tyler took advantage of the ref’s attention being diverted to take out a foreign object from his tights. However, Wahoo was able to block the blow and take the object away. Tyler ended up on the receiving end of a blow from his own foreign object. From there, the pin was academic as Strongbow held off Brower.
Jay Strongbow and Wahoo McDaniel defeated Tarzan Tyler and Dick Brower when Wahoo pinned Tyler after hitting him with a foreign object in 0:13:16. Rating: 1/2*
We now have our World Tag title match set for next month in Buffalo. But before then on New Year’s Day in Rochester, Dory Funk Jr. will take on Jay Strongbow in singles action! Both men have had their altercations in the past and this looks to be another potentially heated contest.
MATCH #9 (FINALS – NORTH AMERICAN TITLE): Mil Mascaras vs. Stan Stasiak
It is time to crown the first North American champion. We know it will be either Mil Mascaras or Stan Stasiak and both men are ready. Before the finals began, as the referee was making sure both wrestlers were clear on the rules, an unidentified man made his way to ringside and stood there observing the goings on in the ring. Just before signaling for the opening bell, the referee made his way to this man and spoke with him, trying to understand why he was there. At one point during the conversation, the man produced some documents and showed them to the ref. Whatever those documents were they appeared to convince the ref that the man was allowed to be at ringside and proceeded to start the contest.
Mil Mascaras had Stan Stasiak on the run right from the start, baffling him with his high flying style. Stasiak was not able to get anything going in the match. Just when it appeared that Mascaras would put Stasiak away, the mystery man made his presence felt. Mascaras had climbed to the top turnbuckle to deliver his Flying Cross Body. With the ref focused on Stasiak, the mystery man quickly shoved the unsuspecting Mascaras off the top. Mascaras proceeded to take a nasty tumble on to the ring apron and fell to the floor. The fall was enough to knock him out long enough for the ref to administer the ten count.
Match for the vacant UWC North American Title: Stan Stasiak defeated Mil Mascaras by countout in 0:06:56. Rating: ** 3/4 (Stan Stasiak won the UWC North American Title.)
Stan Stasiak has won the tournament! Even if the final victory was by countout, tournament rules state that the winner of the tournament would be awarded the North American title. The mystery man joined Stasiak in the ring and celebrated the victory. As Stasiak was presented the North American title, a dazed Mil Mascaras was helped to the locker room. We would learn after the show that the mystery man’s name is Gary Hart and he apparently is the new manager of Stan Stasiak.
MATCH #10 (WORLD TITLE): Bruno Sammartino (c) vs. Harley Race
Our main event is the eagerly anticipated World title match between champion Bruno Sammartino and challenger Harley Race. This match did not disappoint, as Race and Bruno squared off in an even contest where neither man could claim the advantage for too long. Both of these men were showing why many consider them the absolute best in the UWC.
Sadly, this great match ended in controversy. Around the 38 minute mark, Race had Bruno on the mat with a side headlock when the bell unexpectedly rang. The crowd was momentarily stunned as it appeared that Bruno Sammartino has submitted. Then the announcement was heard over the PA system, the match had reached the curfew time and was declared a draw!
Bruno Sammartino and Harley Race battled to a draw in 0:38:00. Rating: *** 3/4 (Bruno Sammartino retained the UWC World Title.)
The crowd was disappointed at this turn of events and it was evident that both Bruno and Race were not pleased with the decision as well. Unfortunately, it is beyond the UWC Championship Committee’s power to supersede the curfew rules. Bruno retains the title due to the draw, but the issue of who the better man is has not yet been settled.
The Wrap-Up:
The UWC Championship committee has taken immediate action and decreed that we will have a World title rematch next month in Buffalo where the curfew will not be an issue. But first, we celebrate the New Year with our debut in Rochester! Our main event will feature Bruno Sammartino and Harley Race facing off in tag action. Each man has selected a partner and in both cases it is someone familiar to their opponent. Race will be teaming up with Killer Kowalski and Bruno will be teaming up with the sensational Mil Mascaras!
In addition, Stan Stasiak will make his first defense of the North American title against Rufus R, Jones and the Funks will be in singles grudge matches. All this and more on January 1st in Rochester!
