Hey Oliver,
I see on the website you've changed the forums link to come here instead of your old forums. Any chance we could get a "forum archive" link for your old forum. Some older circuits on there that I like to read occasionally. Or is there a link and I'm just missing it?
Thanks!

Hey Josh, Sure thing. Here it is: www.tnm7.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.cgiOr did you mean on TNM7.COM? There hasn't been a post of any kind there in almost three years so I decided to no longer link to it when revamping the site.

Either one works, thanks, Oliver! There were a couple of circuits on there I wanted to go back and read, but didn't know how to get back there.

The WWF circuit was great, I'd probably enjoy another read through of that one.

Anytime :-)
Well... "getting" may have been an understatement ;-). I know for a fact that I *AM* old... if only for the fact that I've been digging around code that's 25 years old over the past few months.
Guess AEW has in a roundabout way brought me back into the fold :-)

I know because of the aches when I go for a lengthy walk, sit down, then attempt to get up 10 minutes later. "That's a new one!".
As for AEW .. eh .. I was intrigued at first, but it's not really taken off for me yet.

I think what sucked me in was going to "Double Or Nothing" which was an incredible show live.

I can't do AEW. It's just highspots setting up highspots. There's nothing to it but "gaga" and no point or psychology behind any of it.

grab a hold, kid.
Personally, I love AEW. I've drifted away from WWE pretty hard and while I love New Japan I have a hard time keeping up, even with NJPW World.
Seeing AEW live in Philly last month was probably the most fun I've had at a wrestling show.

WWEhhhhhhh... ;-) I agree with Carlzilla in terms of the overabundance of highspots. It's doing a disservice to green people like Private Party because they are focusing on being spectacular rather than being solid. Everything they're not learning today will be missing from their repertoire once their bodies break down (which may not take long given all the flying). That's why Sammy Guevara is in such a great position by being able to learn from Jericho of all people... the master of re-inventing himself to stay relevant.

I've watched the first few weeks of AEW (not the PPV or tonight's show, but I have watched all the Dark episodes) and it's definitely hit and miss. I think the tag division especially suffers from too much highspottiness. SCU is the best of the bunch, so was glad to see them get and keep the titles. The women's division suffers from both green workers and sloppy execution. Riho is obviously very over with the crowd, but her offense is quite limited. I loved Brian Zane's description of her as a "Stomp-Type Pokemon", because exactly ! I'm not sure who would be a better choice, though. Nyla Rose perhaps, but it's probably not a good idea to have both singles champs be heels from the get-go. A bigger problem to me is that the matches all seem to feel the same. Every match suffers from a lack of flow, because they're all (big move) , stall / rest / recover for 10-15 seconds, (another big move). Also, guys? Good chain wrestling is more than headlock-takedown-headscissors-kipup-back to a vertical base. It's like they heard the complaints about not enough mat wrestling, so now they're starting half the matches with that sequence.
That said, AEW is markedly better than WWE or anything else I've tried to watch in the past 10-15 years. Their storytelling is very good, and they've got some great heels (Jericho, Pac, Guevara, MJF, even the Librarian guy) even if the face portion of the roster could use some more depth beyond Cody (who bores me) and...I guess Adam Page is OK? I don't know what to make of Kevin Owens -- I've never seen him outside of AEW (yes, I'm sheltered), and he's had next to no mic time, so I have no idea who he is, and by the time the go-home show rolled around I was half-convinced that Moxley was the face in that feud. Still, it's good enough to continue watching.

Kevin Owens... Kenny Omega... both Canadian :-D
Moxley vs Kenny was face vs face, even though it was never officially expressed. The only clue was them working together to fight off LA... err... Santana and Ortiz.
All your points are spot-on.
For me personally, AEW has given me the three things I have enjoyed the most in the past 15 years: - Cody vs. Dustin and the aftermath --- half the MGM Grand Garden Arena was in tears, - the recent Team Cody vs. Inner Circle concession stand brawl, and - the Jericho spoof video with Vir... Soultrain Jones. I laughed my ass off :-)
Just in the interest of transparency: I'm part of the team producing AEW programming in Germany. The things I write here are my personal opinions and my personal opinions alone.

Grrrr...yes, I got my KO's confused! I admittedly have not gone back and watched any of the AEW stuff from before Dynamite premiered, but I have heard great things about it, especially Cody vs. Dustin, which is why I decided to give it a shot at all. Your other two moments...yes, absolutely agree that those two segments were awesome. I marked out big time for Cody punching through the glass door. Loved the bit where Jake Hager just stood there silently during Jericho's parody promo. Comedy gold, that whole thing. The main event angle has been the best-booked thing I've seen in ages. The big question now is, can they keep that quality up on a weekly basis? Oh, and I forgot about my absolute favorite face on the roster: Luchasaurus . I have missed him, and sadly without him Jurassic Express just isn't working. ETA: Haven't watched the show yet, but I see he was back last night! Woo!

Yes, they were dealt a shit hand when Luchasaurus went down right before his big debut.
I've been saying for a year now that Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy are going to be breakout stars, as is MJF. Even Darby Allin has been growing on me lately.
I think Dynamite is going to go through an evolution over the first year, towards a more entertaining show layout. Don't forget that most of the people involved in putting the shows together had never put a TV show together before in their lives. So it's a learning process for them as it is for us. There's no guarantee AEW is going to get big, and there is no guarantee Dynamite will always be good. But I know that there are a half dozen people in the company who are working diligently towards that goal. They can't out-WWE WWE and have to find their own groove. I'd argue that last night's show, while the first hour had almost no star power, was the best-laid-out one yet.
For years we've complained that WWE is rehashing the same feuds, matches and guys over and over and over. AEW is trying to introduce and grow a whole slew of young wrestlers but the consequence is that they will take up TV that initially you'd probably want to see guys like Kenny, Jericho and the Bucks in. They need to be willing to sacrifice ratings points - and potentially losing in the ratings against NXT - to build to the future, and they know it. So it's hilarious to me seeing people in other forums complaining that last night's show's first hour was built around people who aren't stars yet. Seems like some folks will always complain, no matter what.

So I just watched last night's Dynamite, and I'd say it was pretty good -- nothing earth-shattering, but generally solid. I was a bit confused regarding the Page/Pac feud continuing, and I thought the PnP beatdown of the Young Bucks went on a couple minutes too long, but overall I don't really see why anyone would be up in arms about it. Darby Allin is...fine for the point in his career he's at, but he does need to get a little more seasoning before he's ready for prime time. They're playing to his strengths putting him against Moxley, though, so kudos for that. Oh, and Evil Uno sounded NOTHING like how I would expect a guy named Evil Uno to sound .

I had the same reaction to Page/Pac :-). The PPV was billed as the rubber match. Dynamite was billed as the rubber match. Both were true - the PPV was including the first match (which took place outside AEW) while Dynamite was the AEW rubber match. This should have been thought through better.
I can't stand the Dark Order gimmick.

I can't stand the Dark Order gimmick. OK, so I didn't imagine the rubber match thing. Like the rest of us, I'm getting old, so it was possible . As for Dark Order, yeah, it just feels like there's no purpose to it. This week was the first time they actually did anything with it, and all it accomplished was putting over Luchasaurus (which, granted, is cool with me, but I'm not sure he needs it). They should feel like a threat, but they don't. At all.

Small update to this, vertigo: I'm working on a translation program to turn the old Forums' posts into a data source I can integrate into my current CMS. You should be able to have read-only access to it again when I'm done.
