PRO WRESTLING IMMORTAL Strength in Numbers 8.3.1
The show opens with Eddie Gilbert making his way to the ring, heavy tape around his torse.
Gilbert solemnly enters the ring, and announces that he has a note! He has a note from his doctor, regretfully informing him that he is not to compete tonight, as much as he would love to. He says that after Ted DiBiase's heinous assault on him last week, he must regretfully pull out of the Wargames, leaving his team out numbered.
Romero Contreras comes to the ring, with The Greatest American Bolo right behind him, keeping an eye on the back, presumably in the event of a sneak attack. Gilbert immediately backs off from Romero as he enters the ring.
Romero says that the only thing wrong with Gilbert's back is the big yellow streak running down it! Gilbert says that's not true, and he really looked forward to awesome, fair athletic competition against Romero and his team, but that can't happen. Romero nods his head and says that's alright. He tells Bolo to sit out the match tonight...but to be right there at ringside...if Gilbert so much as touches the cage, to smack him in his injured back with the kendo stick!
Zack Ryder came to the ring, flaunting the tag team title! Shinsuke Nakamura came out to a big pop!
The two began to tie up...and Nakamura caught Ryder in a standing short arm scissors!! Ryder begged for mercy, but couldn't break the hold! He very quickly gave up!!
Shinsuke Nakamura made Zack Ryder submit to a standing short arm scissors in 0:00:36. Rating: *
Robert Roode, James Storm and Heath Slater ran out, and with Ryder the four men circled the ring!! They almost jumped in and attacked Nakamura, but Storm then called them back and laughed at Nakamura as they headed to the back!
General Skandor Akbar brought Paul Roma to the ring, looking to finish Ricky Steamboat off after last week's attack!
Steamboat came out on fire! Steamboat managed to keep Akbar at bay without giving up TOO much to Roma, and caught Roma with the Flying Cross Body Press for the win!
Rick Steamboat pinned Paul Roma with the Flying Cross Body Press in 0:06:37. Rating: ** 3/4
James Storm was up next, getting booed loudly!
Brad Armstrong came out to a good reaction and faced off with the Tennessee Cowboy!
It was very back and forth, but Storm seemed to control the pace of it. Armstrong did get a couple of nearfalls, but ate the Last Call for the pin!
James Storm pinned Brad Armstrong with the Last Call in 0:11:20. Rating: *** 1/2
Robert Roode was up next, hated every bit as much as Storm. Terry Taylor came out to a great reaction, seeking revenge for last week's interference!
Unfortunately, he didn't get it...Taylor is primarily a tag wrestler these days, and not having anyone to tag out to hurt him. Roode caught him with the Payoff and got the win!
Robert Roode pinned Terry Taylor with the Payoff in 0:06:54. Rating: *** 3/4
Akbar and Friday led Kamala to the ring...and Dark Journey brought out The Missing Link!
What followed was nearly thirty minutes of headbutts and chops. That's all the description you get. Devastation Incorporated came to the ring long after the match SHOULD have ended, and attacked The Missing Link!!
The Missing Link defeated Kamala by disqualification in 0:25:46. Rating: -**** 3/4 [Friday, Dean Malenko and Hercules interfered against The Missing Link.]
As they tried to beat down Link, Barry Windham stormed the ring with Steamboat and Armstrong trailing behind him...and Windham went right after Malenko!! Akbar ordered full retreat, not wanting to risk Malenko getting hurt before his title defense!
At intermission, it was announced that Chris Adams and Terry Taylor would get the chance to exercise their rematch clause next week against Bad Bromance!
Akbar and Malenko made their way back out, and the crowd popped pretty big for Windham!
Windham dominated Malenko in the early going, but Malenko just plain outwrestled Windham, wearing him down and working on the back and legs!! Malenko once more busted out the flying gutbuster, this time after blocking a superplex attempt! He set up the Texas Cloverleaf and got the win!
Dean Malenko made Barry Windham submit to the Texas Cloverleaf in 0:09:06. Rating: **** 1/4 (Dean Malenko retained the PWI Fighting Spirit Title.)
Eddie Gilbert did accompany Buzz Sawyer, Dick Slater, Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield to the ring!
Sensei and The Greatest American Bolo led Romero Contreras, Ted DiBiase and Fatal Encounter to war!
Buzz Sawyer and Ted DiBiase started off, and they went nuts on each other! DiBiase kept going after the leg, something which was likely to be a recurring theme. Sawyer tried to use the cage as much as he could, but every time Sawyer got too much damage in, DiBiase would rake his eyes or hit a low blow! As time came for the coin toss, Skip Sheffield went to his door, while Sting went to his...Romero and Gilbert met with the referee...and Gilbert won the toss! Sheffield stormed the cage!!
When Sheffield came in, he was dragging Buzz Sawyer's chains with him!! He HAMMERED DiBiase from behind, and the two men began beating the crap out of Ted! Sheffield wrapped the chain around DiBiase's throat and whipped his head into the cage...and then just began strangling him unconscious! Romero, a full minute before his time period was supposed to be up, ripped the door open! When the ref tried to stop him, he yelled "Disqualify me!" and attacked Sawyer and Sheffield!!
He unwrapped the chains and threw them aside, and Sting managed to pull them out of the cage! Romero fought back men as hard and fast as he could, trying to give DiBiase time to recover...Gilbert throwing a fit the whole time! As time was ending, Dick Slater entered the cage and attacked Romero from behind!
A bloody DiBiase rose from the dead here and sent Sawyer into the cage, drawing blood! Then he laid into Sheffield, using cheap shots to slow up the much bigger man! Romero fought off Slater, and banged Sawyer's and Slater's heads together! DiBiase and Romero had things pretty well under control as Jake "The Snake" hit the ring!
Roberts unloaded on Sawyer, Slater and Sheffield! He caught Sheffield with a kneelift, nailed Slater with a short-arm clothesline and DDTed Sawyer!! Outside the ring, Eddie Gilbert was sneaking up on Sting...but The Greatest American Bolo got between them with the kendo stick!
Michael Tarver entered the ring and nailed Romero with some kind of object, drawing blood! He caught DiBiase as well! He swung at Jake, but Jake ducked and unloaded with a flurry of shots!! However, this gave Slater a chance to nail Roberts, and he hit a big Piledriver!! Tarver and Sheffield hoisted up Romero, and smashed him into the cage! Sting was going NUTS on the floor, dying to get in!! They circled Ted DiBiase and just stomped a hole in him!!
When Sting finally entered the ring, he was on FIRE! He grabbed the top of the cage and kicked Tarver in the face, then ducked a Sheffield clothesline and wiped him out with one of his own!! He sidestepped a Sawyer charge and whipped him into the cage, then gorilla pressed Slater into the top of the cage! He gave Sawyer a Stinger Splash AGAINST the cage!!!
Jake DDTed Tarver and Sting locked on the Scorpion Deathlock, but Slater managed to hit a boot to the head and break the hold! Snake went for a DDT on Slater, but Slater sent him into the cage!
Romero hit the Border Jump and launched Sheffield into the cage, then clotheslined him to the mat!!
As Romero set Sheffield up for the Kool-Aid Krunch, Sting locked the Scorpion on Tarver! Jake DDTed Sawyer! DiBiase locked the Figure Four on Slater!! On the floor, Eddie Gilbert threw powder in Bolo's eyes and rammed him into the cage wall! Inside the ring, Slater gave up!!
War Games No-Countout-No-DQ-Match: Fatal Encounter (Jake Roberts and Sting), Romero Contreras and Ted DiBiase defeated Buzz Sawyer, Dick Slater, Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield when DiBiase made Slater submit to the Figure Four Leglock in 0:22:33. Rating: *** 3/4
As the fans cheered, Gilbert entered the ring!!! When Romero turned around, he threw a fireball in Romero's face!!! Then he nearly hurt himself scurrying out of the ring as DiBiase, Sting and Jake tried to stop him!
Gilbert didn't even look back as the PWI Heavyweight champion rolled around the ring, screaming in agony and the smell of burning flesh filled the arena!
Card rating: ** 1/4

- Gilbert, that no good yellow bellied coward. - Well, that was quick. Nakamura needs to find a partner and just go take the tag titles if he wants some gold easily. - Steamboat over Roma, very nice. - Couple of squashes in a row. Don't see that very often from PWI, but I like it! - Seems like it's all build up to WarGames with some filler in there, but that's okay. Taylor and Adams must be on their way out soon it would seem. - 25 minutes of Link and Kamala? WTF? Hope you got your shits and giggles out of that one. Hopefully half the audience didn't walk out. That's worse than Adam Bomb and Earthquake going 30 minutes in Jeff's WWF fed. - Good win for Malenko. I would have loved to have seen that match in both of their primes. Their height difference might have been a problem, but who knows. Malenko continues to be my favorite wrestler on your roster right now. - Thank goodness the heels won the coin toss this time. - Romero is such a rulebreaker. - We have blood! - WHOO! DiBiase gets the deciding fall too! Yes! - ... You do know I just burnt my stomach to a crisp and you had to throw in that burning flesh bit. Really nice. - Actually loved the fact that you used a fireball. It isn't used nearly enough. Great stuff and really good write-up of the WarGames match. Definitely liked this one more than the previous.

- In Gilbert's defense, he was legitimately injured.
- I almost had Akbar fireball someone in the first two cycles, especially when I was doing the "lights come on, guys are in the ring" bit, but I kept holding off.
- Gilbert getting hurt made me change the match, but I think it turned out fine.
As always, thanks for the comments!

PRO WRESTLING IMMORTAL Strength in Numbers 9.3.1
The show opened with the announcement that Romero has suffered severe burns to his face, but he is recovering. The PWI board moved to fire Eddie Gilbert, but Romero - from his hospital bed - pleaded for them to not fire Gilbert...because to get him in the ring is the only way to legally do the things he wants to do to Gilbert! Romero has vowed that he WILL be back, and that Gilbert will regret not just shooting him instead.
Skip Sheffield made his way to the ring...and Sting came out to face him!
Sheffield overpowered Sting, but the Stinger refused to give up! He rocked Sheffield with some strong offense...but Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater came to the ring! Three guys out there made it easy to cheat without the referee's knowledge, and so it was no surprise when Sting got dropped with the Over the Shoulder Boulder Holder!
Skip Sheffield pinned Sting with the Over the Shoulder Boulder Holder in 0:09:20. Rating: *** 1/2 [Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater interfered against Sting.]
General Skandor Akbar and Paul Roma made their way out...and Barry Windham came to the ring! Windham worked over Roma, giving him a big suplex on the floor that kept him from beating the ref's count!
Barry Windham defeated Paul Roma by countout in 0:03:29. Rating: * 3/4
Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater, who had made one appearance already, came out to take on Brad Armstrong and Rick Steamboat! Steamboat was all over Slater and Sawyer, and he and Armstrong did some great double teaming!
However, Sawyer irish whipped Armstrong into the guardrails and then hit a huge clothesline that knocked Armstrong into the crowd! Armstrong never made it back into the ring!
Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater defeated Brad Armstrong and Rick Steamboat when Sawyer defeated B. Armstrong by countout in 0:13:00. Rating: ***
Eddie Gilbert came to the ring, looking pleased with himself. Dark Journey brought The Missing Link out to take him on!
Link dominated Gilbert in the early going, but Gilbert dodged a corner charge! He inflicted some damage to link before hitting a gutwrench suplex for the pin!
Eddie Gilbert pinned The Missing Link after a gutwrench suplex in 0:05:12. Rating: 3/4*
Chris Adams and Terry Taylor got a nice reaction...while Bad Bromance were booed loudly! This was another good match between these four men, and Adams very nearly pinned Ryder as well as nearly made Slater submit. Taylor took a bad fall to the floor, and that meant Adams was easily isolated, where Bad Bromance could hit the Bad Bromance for three!
Bad Bromance (Heath Slater and Zack Ryder) defeated Chris Adams and Terry Taylor when Z. Ryder pinned Adams after the Bad Bromance in 0:08:24. Rating: *** 1/2 (Bad Bromance retained the PWI Tag Team Titles.)
Ryder and Slater gloated as they kept the belts!
James Storm came to the ring next...and Ted DiBiase got a big reaction! The two men went at it hot and heavy! Storm tried to charge DiBiase in the corner, but DiBiase moved and Storm knocked himself loopy on the ring post! DiBiase locked in the figure four and the ref called the match due to Storm being out cold!
Ted DiBiase defeated James Storm when James Storm passed out in the Figure Four Leglock in 0:06:37. Rating: **** 1/4
About as good as six minutes gets!
At intermission it was announced that next week, Sting would face Dick Slater while Jake Roberts would take on Buzz Sawyer! Eddie Gilbert would be in action against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and "Wildcat" Chris Harris would return to team with Shinsuke Nakamure against Beer Money Incorporated!
Michael Tarver was up next...against Jake "The Snake" Roberts!
Tarver looked awesome against Jake, just brutalizing the popular star! Jake fought back, but Tarver was quick to cut him off! However, when he picked Jake up in the slam position for Tarver's Lightning, Jake turned it into the DDT and that was it!
Jake Roberts pinned Michael Tarver with the DDT in 0:13:44. Rating: ** 3/4
Jake slithered out of the ring as Tarver stared at the lights!
Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to the ring to take on Fighting Spirit Champion Dean Malenko for the title!
These two just went at each other non-stop from the opening bell! Akbar almost got involved, but reconsidered when he couldn't guarantee he wouldn't hit Malenko!
James Storm ran to the ring as Nakamura set up the Shining Triangle, and he smashed a beer bottle over Nakamura's head!! Nakamura staggered into a gutwrench suplex and pin!
Dean Malenko pinned Shinsuke Nakamura after a gutwrench suplex in 0:06:38. Rating: **** (Dean Malenko retained the PWI Fighting Spirit Title.) [James Storm interfered against Shinsuke Nakamura.]
Storm backed his way up the ramp laughing, but Chris Harris charged out of the back and smashed Storm from behind!! He chased his former partner back to the ring, out the other side, into the crowd and out of the building!!

- I don't picture Romero as an overly attractive man so at least it probably didn't hurt his looks any. - That's quite the win for Sheffield. In fact, I am pretty stunned. I don't think Sting is ever going to win the Title here. - Windham vs Roma? Eh. Windham should have gotten a pinfall there. - Sheesh, what's with the countouts tonight? - Nice squash for Gilbert. - Good win for Bad Bromance. I'm wondering what you are going to end up doing with Adams and Taylor since they seem to have lost most of their push. - Four stars in six minutes is pretty ridiculous. I love me some DiBiase though. I'm still pissed about Harris getting injured. I think he and Storm would be main eventing shows right now if it wasn't for that injury. - When you picture the Roberts in your circuit, do you picture him as the skinnier late '80s version or the fat '96 version? Anyways, good to see him win one. - WOW! HARRIS RETURNED! I hadn't even read that far before my comment from above. Great to see him back. Glad Malenko retained. Decent card with an ending that made me very excited.

It doesn't take me too long to bust out my cards (or I wouldn't bust them out so often)...not like the WCW-SF cards where I had to make it into a whole project getting one done...=P

It doesn't take me too long to bust out my cards (or I wouldn't bust them out so often)...not like the WCW-SF cards where I had to make it into a whole project getting one done...=P It takes me probably about 45-60 minutes to do a Saturday Night altogether (but that's with the TV on and always being distracted and ADD) and about 15-20 minutes for a Main Event. PPVs take me about 2 and a half hours. But that isn't straight writing. Mostly it's me writing up a match or an angle, getting distracted by a tv show or another website, and then realized I still had 8 more matches to writeup.

- Romero's wife loves how he looks.
- Who said Sting was ever going to win the title here? He never won it in WCW-SF.
- I don't put a ton of stock in TNM match ratings, to be honest.
- Roberts is definitely the 80s Roberts.
- Yeah, gotta love the "approximately" on the injury times.

The show began with Dick Slater heading to the ring! His opponent: Sting!
They went hot and heavy for a few minutes, when Sting stunned Slater out of nowhere with a jawbreaker and covered him for the surprise pin!
Sting pinned Dick Slater after a jawbreaker in 0:05:22. Rating: ***
Slater complained with the referee about the count, while Sting celebrated with the fans!
General Skandor Akbar brought "The Shooter" Dean Malenko to the ring! Sensei Bolo led The Greatest American Bolo out!
Technically speaking, Bolo was clearly out of his depth here against Malenko. Luckily for him, wrestling is more than just technical ability, and some judicious eye pokes kept Bolo in the game. Akbar got involved by distracting Bolo during an attempt at The American Revolution, allowing Malenko to soften him up for the Texas Cloverleaf!!
Dean Malenko made The Greatest American Bolo submit to the Texas Cloverleaf in 0:08:45. Rating: *** 1/2 [General Skandor Akbar interfered against The Greatest American Bolo.]
Skandor Akbar and Friday retrieved KAMALA...Brad Armstrong reluctantly came out to battle Kamala. Kamala just brutalized Armstrong, and got crushed with Air Africa.
Kamala pinned Brad Armstrong with the Air Africa in 0:02:45. Rating: *
"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer hit the ring and just waited on Jake Roberts! Sawyer was quick on the attack and they went back and forth!! Sawyer managed to drive Roberts into the ring post, which knocked him loopy and allowed Sawyer to hit a bulldog on the stunned Snake for the pin!
Buzz Sawyer pinned Jake Roberts after a bulldog in 0:02:15. Rating: ***
Eddie Gilbert came and the fans booed! Gilbert announced, and Kitty confirmed it, that Romero had DEMANDED Gilbert in the ring in two weeks! Gilbert laughed and told Romero that this was going to be his last mistake!
Barry Windham came out to take on Gilbert, and if Gilbert has this kind of trouble with guys bigger than him, Romero may kill him! Gilbert got dominated by Windham for a good part of the match, but he did get some licks in. The Hotshot came out of nowhere, though, and Gilbert folded him up for the pin!
Eddie Gilbert pinned Barry Windham with the Hotshot in 0:08:05. Rating: *** (Rick Steamboat no-showed.)
Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield hit the ring... and tried to jump Terry Taylor and Chris Adams as they came in! Taylor and Adams ducked a right hook and a clothesline, and Adams popped Tarver with the Superkick while Taylor hit the Five-Arm on Sheffield! They covered Tarver and Sheffield for the quick win!!
Chris Adams and Terry Taylor defeated Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield when Taylor pinned Sheffield with the Five Arm in 0:00:27. Rating: *
Adams and Taylor got out of there before Tarver and Sheffield could shake it off!
At intermission, it was announced that Sting would face Buzz Sawyer next week, Rick Steamboat would be on hand to take on Eddie Gilbert, Barry Windham would meet Dean Malenko in a non-title match and Chris Adams & Terry Taylor would get one more crack at regaining the titles from Bad Bromance!!
Akbar brought Paul Roma to the ring, while Dark Journey led The Missing Link out.
Roma was all over Link, but Link seemed to shrug it off. Roma played a calculating game, trying to drag the match out to wear down Link, but he could never really get Link where he wanted him! Link took Roma down and went for the Flying Headbutt, when Akbar shoved him off the turnbuckles!
The Missing Link defeated Paul Roma by disqualification in 0:15:08. Rating: * 1/4 [General Skandor Akbar interfered against The Missing Link.]
Akbar and Roma got out of there before Link could recover!
What was supposed to be Beer Money got changed up a bit, when Robert Roode announced that James Storm had food poisoning and couldn't make it! The crowd booed LOUDLY. Roode announced that Zack Ryder would be his partner tonight!
Shinsuke Nakamura and Chris Harris came out, and Harris was clearly ticked at the lack of Storm!
The match was tremendous, with Harris inflicting much damage on Ryder and Roode! Nakamura got his licks in as well! Roode has a history as a tag wrestler and Ryder is one of the top tag stars in PWI, so they adapted well to one another and kept it competitive!
Nakamura got taken down and was cut off from Harris for at least five minutes...and by the time Harris got in, he was livid! Harris tore into both men and started setting Roode up for the Catatonic, when Ryder slid in the ring with the ring bell! Harris dropped Roode and speared Ryder! He picked up the bell when Roode went for a Northern Lariat, then made the mistake of spinning and popping Roode with it!!
Angry Young Men (Robert Roode and Zack Ryder) defeated Chris Harris and Shinsuke Nakamura when R. Roode defeated C. Harris by disqualification in 0:24:15. Rating: **** 1/4 (James Storm no-showed.)
Harris and Nakamura were not pleased at the loss, but Roode wasn't in any condition to celebrate the win!

- Good for Sting to get a win. I know he has never held the title in one of your circuits, but he still should be in the hunt. - Good learning experience for Bolo there. - Kamala squash! We need more of those! - Well, it's good to see Sawyer get back on track, but I don't know about him going over Roberts cleanly. - Gilbert/Steamboat would have been good, but I would have much preferred the match we got. - I was expecting Sheffield to keep gaining momentum after his victory over Sting. But maybe not. Isn't this Adams and Taylor first win in a few weeks? - Did Hercules quit? Seems like Roma has been wrestling a lot of singles matches lately. - Angry Young Men? LOVE IT! - Good to see Harris back in action, and the no-show actually helped since it gave Storm the coward's way out.

Shinsuke Nakamura pinned James Storm with the Boma Ye in 0:06:43. Rating: *** 1/4
"Gentleman" Chris Adams & Terry Taylor came out to face Bad Bromance in a Tag Title shot!! Adams and Taylor controlled the pace in the early going, but Slater and Ryder got Adams isolated and worked him over. Taylor tagged in and took apart Ryder and Slater, but got forced out of the ring because the referee didn't see the tag!
By the time Taylor was allowed in, Adams was too hurt to be much help, and Taylor ate the Bad Bromance, allowing Ryder and Slater to retain!
Bad Bromance (Heath Slater and Zack Ryder) defeated Chris Adams and Terry Taylor when Z. Ryder pinned Taylor after the Bad Bromance in 0:19:04. Rating: *** (Bad Bromance retained the PWI Tag Team Titles.)

The show began with a hot grudge match featuring Dick Slater and Buzz Sawyer battling Fatal Encounter! If Sting and Jake were having trouble staying on the same page, you couldn't see it tonight, if only because this was less of a tag match and more like two separate brawls! Sting and Sawyer went at each other while Roberts and Slater brawled all over the place!! Fans in the arena went nuts as the fight spilled all over the place, including the concession area, where Roberts and Slater did battle for a couple of minutes!!
The referee held off on DQs, but when they clearly weren't going back to the ring, he reluctantly issued a double countout!
Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater and Fatal Encounter (Jake Roberts and Sting) battled to a double countout in 0:06:36. Rating: ** 1/4

- Roode begging not to be DQ'ed was gold.
- Eh, Tarver just isn't doing it for me in this circuit.
- Protecting Roma?
- Gilbert vs Steamboat could have been 5 stars back in the day.
- Sting vs Sawyer this soon after their feud was a little weird but good stuff.
- I really wish I knew if this was '80s NWA or in the 2000's. '80s NWA this is a greatly booked match that would develop in to a rematch. Good stuff.
- Eh, I'm still hoping for Storm to finally get his push.
- BAD BROMANCE~!

- Way to keep the feud going.
- Now that Hercules is gone I couldn't give a crap about Roma.
- HOLY CRAP! Kamala beat Steamboat?!?!?! That was an odd booking decision. I don't hate it if Kamala had been booked stronger prior to this, but close to hating it since Kamala has been used as a face stepping stone. As long as Kamala is in the line to get a push it's okay.
- It'll be awesome if Sheffield gets the bear hug over as a convincing finisher.
- Malenko-Windham is really getting my attention.
- LOVED Gilbert winning the title. I am a bigger fan of heels being champs. Not such a huge fan of it being treated like an after thought though.
- So DiBiase vs Sheffield? Definitely looking forward to it.
- HEELS MUST WIN THE TOSS!
- Good war games. Liked the one previous more, but liked this one more than the first. Probably just because of the people involved.
Good card. Can't wait for the next now that Gilbert is the champ.
