Just got a new laptop since my other one is "outdated" and it wont let me run tnm7 as I normally do. How do I go about running it on windows 8?

Here's what I did:
Get yourself a dedicated thumbdrive for TNM (note the drive letter for this) Download TNM install file to thumbdrive From there you will need to download the free utility app called "DosBox" from the dosbox website (I have version 0.74 that works with TNM) From there, on first time only follow this step: *first use only to install tnm* you will need need that drive letter for your thumbdrive. at the z: prompt, type "mount c e:" (using in place of e: whatever your thumbdrive letter is) From there type "cd c:" and when it give you the c: prompt, type "tnm" Pretty sure this should install a fresh copy of TNM on the thumbdrive.
From here on, you will have to do the rest of the steps to play TNM every time: Open dosbox app, type: "mount c: e:/tnm7se" using whatever drive letter for thumbdrive is in place of e: Then type "tnm" Tnm should open and run. Also note you can speed up dosbox by using the ctrl+f12 function. I like to run about 12000 instead of 3000 as it speeds up times between matches.
Let me know if this doesn't work and I will alter as needed and hopefully we can get a sticky for it once it does.

Just today I had to update my computer due to a crash. Brand new laptop and forced to use Windows 8. Everything worked with DosBox exactly like you would expect. Didn't even have to use a Flash Drive. Where are you running into problems?

Ive got dosbox and I downloaded copy to flash drive but when I open dosbox and type the command line rick suggests it just goes black and wont let me run, but when I break out the old cpu unit and put thumbdrive in amd click tnm it lets me play that copy. So I tried to run it on 8 again and no dice. So I dont know what I shoulf type in dosbox to get it to run

Here is what I did. I downloaded the TNM installation file to:
C:\TNM
Downloaded DosBox. I run it and type:
mount c c:\tnm
C:\
tnm7se
It gave me some sort of error, but still worked. Just hit enter to bypass the error. Don't forget to CTRL-F12 to increase the cycle rate up to 20,000 so it doesn't take forever.
From there install TNM to a directory like C:\TNMMurphy
Then exit DosBox, reenter, and type
mount c c:\tnmmurphy
C:\
TNM
Should run.

Do you have it up to the 20,000 cycles?
If you are using a laptop a lot of the newer ones have the F12 button as a function key. You have to hold down CTRL-FN and tap the F12 button (my button is actually the wireless button with F12 being a fn key below it).
