Championship TV 09.01.1990
Lance Russell opens the show, Eddie Marlin has an announcement, and tonights Main Event is revealed.Lance Russell welcomes the fans to the show, and starts off saying we have some
serious business to attend to this morning and brings out USWA Promoter Eddie
Marlin.
Eddie Marlin announces the end of the business relationship between World
Class Championship Wrestling from Dallas, and the USWA. Eddie Marlin says
that Kevin Von Erich and Skandar Akbar have made it perfectly clear that they
do not tend to continue doing business with the USWA.
Lance talks about what a disappointment this is for the USWA and professional
wrestling fans in general. He then asks for Eddie to clarify the current
Unified Championship Title situation for the fans. Marlin explains that their
have been some behind the scenes issues with Snowman, which has led to the
promotion stripping him of the title. With so many changes occuring from the
fallout of the breakup with World Class, the USWA will be holding a one night
tournament at the Mid South Coliseum on October 8th. The tournament will then
determine the NEW Unified Heavyweight Champion!
As the fans applaud the decision, Lance Russell and Dave Brown both express
excitement over the huge news.
Eddie Marlin also says that in the meantime, we are bringing back the Southern
Heavyweight Championship, and a champion will be crowned right here today on
television! Eddie names Dustin Rhodes and Dirty Dick Slater as the top
contenders for the championship, and announces they will go at it today!
Dirty Dick Slater makes his way out to the announce area, with his tag team
partner Dick Murdoch, who make up the team known as "The Hardliners".
Dirty Dick Slater tells Lance Russell and Eddie Marlin that he can't wait to
get his hands on Dustin Rhodes and beat the life out of him. Winning the
Southern Championship would be a bonus!
Lance tells Slater that he doubts Dustin Rhodes is going to be that easy of
a match for him, and says that he is looking forward to tonights Main Event.
A few young fans in the crowd antagonize Dick Slater, Slater pretends to run
after them in the studio while Dick Murdoch praises his tag partner to Lance
Russell.
Russell says that we need to head to a commercial break, and we will be back so stick around!
Jerry Lawler interrups Dave Brown to discuss the latest
happenings with Snowman and the Unified World Heavyweight Championship Title. Coming back from break, Dave Brown runs down todays card, which includes a
tag team matchup between The Southern Rockers, and The Uptown Posse. We
will also see The Dirty White Boys in action, and our big featured main event
of Dustin Rhodes vs Dirty Dick Slater for the Southern Heavyweight Championship.
As Dave is finishing up announcing the card, out comes Jerry Lawler to a
loud ovation from the studio crowd. Dave Brown welcomes Lawler to the show
and implies that he must have a lot of thoughts in his head concerning the
recent turn of events with the Unified Heavyweight Championship. Jerry says
that he knows Snowman is here in the studio because he saw him pull up earlier
today. Lawler talks about how he won't get into specifics, but if the rumors
are true about what the Snowman was doing with that world title, it's a
disgrace to professional wrestling, and he takes it personal the way he's
treating that title belt!
Dave Brown tries to defuse a heated Lawler by telling him that rumors about
Snowman and the Unified Title have not been confirmed, and everyone in this
country is innocent until proven guilty!
As the decible level of the audience grows, we see Snowman coming out to
confront Jerry Lawler. Snowman says that he is so sick of always being
guilty in the eyes of guys like Eddie Marlin, Jerry Jarrett, and even Jerry
Lawler. He should of seen it coming a mile away, a black man stripped of the
Unified Title over false allegations!
As the confrontation continues to heat up, Jerry Lawler tells the audience
that he knows Snowman was caught in the shady parts of Memphis trying to
sell the title for crack cocaine! Dave and Lance both try telling the two
men to break it up, but that was the straw that broke the camels back for
Snowman, who took Lawler down as the two started brawling around the studio.
Dave Brown yelled for help from the back as The Southern Rockers, Dustin
Rhodes, Joey Maggs and Action Jackson come out to pull Snowman off Jerry
Lawler, and Eddie Gilbert, Dirty White Boys and The Uptown Posse seperate
Snowman.
Snowman challenges Jerry Lawler to a hardcore match this Monday at the Mid
South Coliseum, which Lawler accepts without hesitation. Lawler screams at
Eddie Marlin to get the match signed, and he would see Snowman monday night!
Southern Rockers (Steven Doll and Rex King) defeated

distraction of Reggie B. Fine at ringside.
Eddie Gilbert and The Dirty White Boys talk about Bill Dundee.Returning from commercial break, we see Eddie Gilbert heading to the
announce table. Lance Russell walks over to get a few words from the self
proclaimed "Hot Stuff".
Eddie Gilbert rants about his Bill Dundee going around bad mouthing him to
promoters all around the south, taking money out of his pocket, and depriving
his family of food on the table. Lance says that he hasn't heard anyone bad
mouthing Gilbert around here, and that any problems he is having getting work
was probably brought on by himself!
Manager Ronnie P. Gossett comes out to back Eddie Gilberts claims, confirming
that he heard Bill Dundee just last week in Louisville telling people that
Eddie Gilbert isn't worth the "headache" to deal with!
Bill Dundee makes his way out to deny any of these lies that Gilbert and
Gossett are claiming. Dundee says that he has bigger things on his plate, like
qualifying for the Unified Championship Tournament. Dundee says he doesn't have
time to deal with Eddie Gilberts' insecurities.
Ronnie continues to instigate the situation accusing Dundee of calling Eddie
a lier right here on Television. Gilbert says that it's going to be really
hard for Dundee to qualify for the tournament when he's laying in a Memphis
hospital!
Out come Ronnie P. Gossetts tag team, The Dirty White Boys, who jump Dundee
from behind. The DWB hold Dundee down as Eddie Gilbert pulls out a chain
from his trunks and begins to unload on Dundee, leaving him bloody on the
studio floor. Lance calls for medical attention as The Dirty White Boys
head to the ring for competition.

made Action Jackson submit to a sleeper hold in 0:07:09.

[Dick Murdoch interfered against Dustin Rhodes.]Dustin Rhodes put up one hell of a fight against Dick Slater, but it was
interference from Dick Murdoch that led to Rhodes getting caught with that
devastating Piledriver and leading to Slater being crowned the
new USWA Southern Heavyweight Champion. Dick Murdoch
pulled out a bottle of champagne to pour over his tag team partner in celebration.
Dustin left the ring in frustration over constantly having to
watch his back with Murdoch at ringside.

Television RecapThe shocking announcement that World Class has severed their business
relationship with the USWA has led to a lot more questions than answers as
of late in the USWA.
Currently the USWA tag titles have been stripped of Don Harris and Brian Lee
when both men refused to sign exclusive contracts with the USWA. Jeff Jarrett
and Jeff Gaylord were the last #1 contenders, and Eddie Marlin says that
most of the top contenders were here in the USWA, which will eventually lead
to a title match being signed to crown the new champions.
A bigger question mark was what will happen with the Unified Heavyweight
Championship. Eddie Marlin, the current USWA matchmaker and promoter has
already started promoting October 8th at the Mid South Coliseum as the
one night tournament to crown a new champion. We will hear more about who
will be headed to Memphis to compete in this tournament. Lots of names from
around the world have been circulating inside pro wrestling locker
rooms as to who will be headed to the Mid South Coliseum next month.
Dirty Dick Slater has been crowned the new USWA Southern Heavyweight Champion
with his victory over Dustin Rhodes here on Television. After the show went
off the air, we found out that Eddie Marlin has promised Dustin Rhodes a
rematch monday night, with Dick Murdoch banned from ringside!
