Final
“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase beat “Macho Man” Randy Savage to win the WWF World Heavyweight Title
Notes:
Just a few short weeks after he tried to buy the WWF World Heavyweight Title, “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase has earned the title the old fashioned way, by winning it in the ring at the climax of the 14 man tournament to decide the new champion. Having seen his path to the title made significantly easier due to the shock double elimination of former champion Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant, DiBiase took full advantage, overcoming “Macho Man” Randy Savage in the final. Savage had fought bravely during a gruelling night of 3 tough matches for him, first beat Ricky Steamboat in a modern day classic to rival their match at last year’s Wrestlemania, before beating the well rested One Man Gang in the semi final, before falling short against DiBiase. However, there was controversy throughout as both Virgil and Andre the Giant constantly distracted Savage during the match. Elizabeth eventually ran to the back to get Hulk Hogan to try and even the odds, but it was this move that would arguably cost Savage the title. With the referee down and chaos in the ring as Andre and Virgil helped DiBiase in a 3 on 1 attack, the Hulkster got a chair from ringside and took a mighty swing at the heels. Unfortunately, it was Savage who took the full force of the chair shot, leaving him easy prey in the middle of the ring for DiBiase to cover just in time for the referee to make the 1-2-3 count and proclaim a new WWF World Heavyweight champion!!!!!
As the heels celebrated, both Hulk and Elizabeth tried to explain to a very groggy Savage what had happened. Eventually, Savage accepted Hulk’s apology before they chased the heels from the ring. Nothing could take the smile away from DiBiase’s face though as he laughed all the way to the backstage area, with both Savage and Hogan promising to get the belt from him!
Earlier in the night the Honky Tonk Man held onto the WWF InterContinental Title as he used the ropes and the “Shake, Rattle and Roll” to see off the challenge of Brutus “Barber” Beefcake – at least for now.
Strike Force were not so fortunate however, as Ax wielded Mr Fuji’s cane to great effect to enable Smash to pin Rick Martel and win the WWF World Tag Team Titles for Demolition.
There were also good wins for Koko B.Ware and The British Bulldogs and The Ultimate Warrior.
The first match of the night was a 20 man Battle Royal featuring the likes of Harley Race, Junkyard Dog, The Hart Foundation and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan amongst others. However, it was a newcomer to the WWF, loner Bad News Brown who prevailed in the Battle Royal as he outlasted all 19 opponents, to win the match.

WWF Press Conference
At a specially convened press conference, WWF owner Vince McMahon announced some big changes to the WWF. As well as the existing pay per view events (Wrestlemania and Survivor Series), the Royal Rumble (which had begun in January 1988) would also become a pay per event from next January. To cover the large gap between Wrestlemania in March and Survivor Series in November, there would be a massive new pay per view in the heat of summer in August, called SummerSlam!!! Saturday Nights Main Event would end after the April 1988 show, and there would be a new “mini” pay per event each month entitled “In Your House” that would be at a cheaper price to buy than the “big” pay per events but would still be filled with top class action including regular title matches!!!! Having developed a successful formula for the WWF (using pay per views) McMahon was certainly keen on making the most of it!! Finally, Vince McMahon announced that he was taking over the role of WWF Chairman and would be responsible for all the big decisions in the WWF!! As Chairman McMahon announced that everyone would get their chance to prove themselves and title shots would need to be earned, making the WWF a lot more competitive!!!

Saturday Nights Main Event – Saturday 16th April 1988
Jake “Snake” Roberts defeated “King” Harley Race via DQ (11:21)
WWF World Tag Team Titles Match
DEMOLITION beat Strike Force when Ax pinned Martel (14:09)
Bad News Brown defeated Koko B.Ware via pinfall (5:58)
The British Bulldogs defeated The Islanders when Kid pinned Tama (9:37)
Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant fought to a double DQ (14:40)
Notes:
The first Saturday Nights Main Event of the new era in the WWF signalled a new beginning and all wrestlers on the roster involved showed a new found enthusiasm for their craft tonight, leaving the fans on the edge of their seat and already talking about the next event – In Your House I – just 8 days away, which will be include 3 big title matches!! The first match of the night was a fine encounter between two veterans that swayed back and forth for more than ten minutes. The end came when another of Bobby Heenan’s men – “Ravishing” Rick Rude charged down to the ring attacked “Snake”, leaving the referee with no option but to call for the bell. Match no.2 was a rematch from Wrestlemania, with former champions Tito Santana and Rick Martel trying to regain the titles they lost to Demolition at the big show. Once again the match was a showcase for contrasting styles, but unfortunately once again it was Mr Fuji’s cane that was decisive as Ax used it on Martel behind the referee’s back to claim a pinfall victory in their first big title defence!! Next, we cut to the “Events Centre” studio, where “Mean” Gene Okerlund gave a full rundown on Wrestlemania IV, including comments from new WWF Champion “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and WWF InterContinental Champion Honky Tonk Man. Back to the ring and Bad News Brown – fresh off his big Battle Royal win at WMIV, was taking on “Birdman” Koko B.Ware. Brown dominated this match from start to finish and after hitting his patented “Ghetto Blaster” finish, defeated Koko in just under six minutes. As Bad News left the ring, Bret “Hitman” Hart and Jim “Anvil” Niedhart were walking to the interview area with “Mean” Gene. Okerlund asked the Harts why Jimmy Hart was not with them and they said they did not know where Jimmy was. Okerlund soon turned his questions to the WMIV Battle Royal and more specifically the betrayal of Bad News Brown (Brown had attacked the Hitman from behind before dumping him over the top rope, after they had agreed to share the spoils as the last two men in the ring!). Hart said that he had made a big mistake to trust Bad News and if they crossed paths again it would be Bad News who would regret it!!! Still making his way to the back, Bad News stopped to confront both members of The Hart Foundation, and it took several WWF referees and officials to keep them apart!!! The penultimate match of the night was another tag team encounter, this time between The British Bulldogs and The Islanders. These two teams have a bit of history now and it showed as the match developed well until a mistake from Tama – where he accidentally kicked Haku leading to the pin by Dynamite Kid – gave the match to the British Bulldogs. Bobby Heenan was irate with Tama and he left him in no doubt of his feelings as he stormed away from ringside, with Tama trying to apologise to his manager. Finally, it was time for the main event of the night as former WWF Champion Hulk Hogan took on Andre the Giant. These two former friends have been fighting each other for a year now and the intensity and hatred between them was evident from the opening bell. Andre was once again accompanied by “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Virgil and his manager Bobby Heenan, and all 3 men got involved at various points in the match, stopping Hulkster gaining any real momentum. As the referee took a bump, leaving Hogan easy prey to a 4 on 1 attack, “Macho Man” Randy Savage came rushing to the ring to attack DiBiase and the others! As all the men battled in the ring, the referee called for the bell, disqualifying both Hulk and Andre, settling nothing!
Breaking News……Following unsuccessful contract negotiations, both Ricky “Dragon” Steamboat and Bam Bam Bigelow have decided to leave the WWF!

In Your House I – April 1988
The Ultimate Warrior beat One Man Gang via pinfall (4:21)
“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and Hercules fought to a double countout (6:59)
WWF World Tag Team Titles Match
DEMOLITION defeated Strike Force by 2 falls to 1 (22:37)
“Ravishing” Rick Rude beat Ken Patera via pinfall (8:01)
The Rougeau Brothers beat The Bolsheviks via pinfall (6:20)
WWF InterContinental Title Match
HONKY TONK MAN defeated Brutus “Barber” Beefcake via pinfall (11:23)
Dino Bravo defeated Don Muraco via pinfall (9:49)
WWF World Heavyweight Title Match
“Macho Man” Randy Savage defeated “MILLION DOLLAR MAN” TED DIBIASE via DQ (18:21)
Notes:
Once again the “Macho Man” came up short in his pursuit of the WWF World Heavyweight Title and once again it was due to outside interference as DiBiase’s valet, Virgil pulled him to the outside leaving the referee with no option but to end the match on a DQ decision, much to Savage’s annoyance! DiBiase and Virgil left the ring celebrating as those they had won the match. The WWF InterContinental Title match also had a controversial ending as the Honky Tonk Man extended his reign to almost a year with a successful defence over Brutus “Barber” Beefcake in a rematch from WMIV. Just as Beefcake looked like he might finally have the champion beaten, Honky’s manager Jimmy Hart distracted the referee long enough for “Outlaw” Ron Bass to sneak in and attack Beefcake, leaving his easy prey for the “Shake, Rattle and Roll” and yet another win for the champion. The final title match of the night was a gruelling best of 3 falls encounter between Strike Force and Demolition. The early stages belonged to the former champions as they dominated with fast tags and high risk moves, leaving Mr Fuji with no option but to get involved, costing his team the first fall by way of DQ. Ax and Smash slowly made their way into the match and some devious double teaming enabled them to spend several minutes wearing down Rick Martel, with his partner helpless in the other corner. Finally, Santana had seen enough but his attempts to get in the ring only distracted the referee, allowing Ax to hit Martel with Fuji’s cane, and gain an easy 1-2-3 to even things up. The 3rd fall was an anti-climax though as Martel was in no position to defend himself. Demolition hit their patented Demolition Decapitation move and the match was over. In other matches Dino Bravo gained some revenge over Don Muraco for his WMIV loss and “Ravishing” Rick Rude looked impressive as he dismantled Ken Patera. Hercules and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s match turned into a brawl on the outside and both men were counted out. There was a surprise as Jimmy Hart was spotted at ringside watching The Rougeau Brothers take on The Bolsheviks. Jacques and Raymond were using some unusually dubious tactics during this match, before gaining a solid victory. The first match of the night saw an embarrassingly one sided encounter as The Ultimate Warrior, fresh from a big win over Hercules at Wrestlemania, completely dominated the One Man Gang, winning the match with surprising ease in just over 4 minutes! As Warrior celebrated, the Gang disconsolately trudged from the ring, even ignoring his manager, Slick.
Breaking News….WWF Chairman Vince McMahon has announced an 8 man tournament will take place over the next couple of In Your House pay per views to determine the new No.1 contender to the WWF InterContinental Title!! Also, after their latest defeat at the hands of Demolition, Strike Force partners Tito Santana and Rick Martel have decided to amicably split to pursue singles careers in the WWF!! The Main Event of In Your House II will be a massive tag team match between WWF Champion “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and Andre the Giant taking on “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan!!!

“Macho Man” Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan defeated “MILLION DOLLAR MAN” TED DIBIASE & Andre the Giant (18:33)
Notes:
A titanic tag team battle rounded off another massive night of action in the “new” WWF! Despite dominating large portions of the match, the WWF Champion “Million Dollar Man” and Andre the Giant were defeated when Andre got stuck in the ropes and Savage and Hulkster managed to overpower DiBiase, enabling Savage to hit his patented flying elbow on the champion. Although it wasn’t necessary, Hogan followed this up with a legdrop so he could cover DiBiase to win the match for his team, to the slight surprise of Savage. The pinfall victory also earned Hulk a shot at DiBiase at next month’s In Your House III, while Savage’s reward is a match against Andre!! Earlier in the night, both Rick Martel and “King” Harley Race progressed to the final of the WWF InterContinental No.1 contenders tournament and will face off at IYH III, the winner taking on WWF InterContinental Champion Honky Tonk Man later in the night! Fans were shocked at the vicious, rulebreaking tactics employed by the Rougeaus tonight! Jacques was taking on Jim “Anvil” Niedhart in singles action tonight, but it was the intervention of his brother Raymond, in a vicious 2 on 1 beating that led to the DQ decision, although neither Rougeau looked particularly bothered as they made their way from ringside to the jeers of the fans. Bret “Hitman” Hart (who had been missing from ringside to prepare for his match later in the night against Bad News Brown), eventually came to the ring to help his tag team partner to the back. Later, Hart put in a fine performance against the man from Harlem, Bad News Brown, but eventually his opponent managed to hit his patented “Ghetto Blaster” finisher to gain a hard fought victory, much to his delight! The final match of the night featured the Killer Bees up against The Islanders. Once again, it was the unfortunate Tama who made the mistake that turned the match, accidentally kicking his tag team partner Haku, leaving Brunzell with the simple task if pinning him for the victory. After the match, Bobby Heenan continued to berate Tama, blaming him for the Islanders lack of success in recent times, before eventually firing him!! Haku then attacked Tama, leaving him lying in the ring as Haku and Heenan left the ring, smiling.
Breaking News….Both Tama and “Natural” Butch Reed have officially left the WWF following In Your House II. Haku will be continuing in singles action……

“Macho Man” Randy Savage defeated Andre the Giant via countout (10:19)
WWF World Heavyweight Title Match
Hulk Hogan defeated “MILLION DOLLAR MAN” TED DIBIASE via DQ (17:11)
Notes:
WWF World Heavyweight Champion “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase spread a lot of money around to ensure he held on to the title tonight. Just as things looked desperate for the champion, in a compromising position and Virgil laid out at ringside the heel locker room emptied as numerous wrestlers invaded the ring to attack the Hulkster and stop him defeating DiBiase to win the title!!!! However, the WWF does have a new InterContinental Champion for the first time in a year as Rick Martel survived a gruelling tournament final match against “King” Harley Race to win a title shot against Honky Tonk Man later in the night. There was nowhere for the champion to hide for once as his attempts to walk out of the match were met by Martel’s former tag team partner Tito Santana, meaning the champion had to try and win the match in the ring for a change, and he was not up to the challenge, falling prey to the Boston Crab to finally lose “his” title, much to the delight of Martel, Santana and the large crowd!! The next challengers to Demolition’s World Tag Team Titles was also decided tonight, although in controversial fashion. The British Bulldogs and The Hart Foundation were engaging in a classic tag team match when the Rougeau Brothers approached the ring, disrupting the match! In the resulting confusion, Jimmy Hart threw his megaphone to Jacques and he used it on the “Hitman” costing The Hart Foundation the match and the title opportunity! After the match, Jimmy Hart announced he was giving up on two losers like Bret Hart and Jim Niedhart and he was now going to manage The “Fabulous” Rougeaus to tag team glory!!! There were two impressive debuts tonight as newcomers The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Janetty) defeated The Young Stallions in some style, much to the delight of many WWF fans, especially the ladies!!! The other debut was the aggressive and intimidating Big Boss Man, who was accompanied to the ring by his manager, Slick! Boss Man looked like a force to be reckoned with as he absolutely crushed the “Birdman” Koko B.Ware in little over 4 minutes. After the match, Slick grabbed the microphone and said he had a big announcement, which he would make at the next big event, Wrestlefest 88!! Don Muraco defeated Haku but was then attacked by Haku’s fellow Heenan Family member, Hercules in a merciless, unprovoked attack that left Muraco in agony, in the middle of the ring! Nothing was settled in the feud between Jake Roberts and Rick Rude, which has rumbled on since Wrestlemania IV. Last but not least, “Macho Man” Randy Savage warmed up for his title match at Wrestlefest 88, by taking on the massive Andre the Giant. The match ended when Savage knocked Andre over the ropes and he was unable to beat the referee’s count, much to the annoyance of his managed, Bobby Heenan! Next big pay per view event – Wrestlefest 88!!!!

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match

Notes:
A packed night of action concluded with a new WWF World Heavyweight Champion being crowned as finally “Macho Man” Randy Savage managed to overcome “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase to become the WWF World Champion for the first time!! Savage celebrated in the ring with Miss Elizabeth but you can be sure the “Million Dollar Man” will not be giving up so easily and will be determined to regain the title, by whatever means necessary!! There were successful titles defences by Rick Martel and Demolition against Honky Tonk Man and The British Bulldogs respectively. Hulk Hogan seems to have finally managed to overcome the challenge of Andre the Giant, after more than a year of feuding with his former friend. At the end of the match, as Hulkster celebrated with his fans, Andre’s manager Bobby Heenan laid into his man, verbally assaulting him relentlessly, before finally smacking Andre in the face! That was a huge mistake as Andre grabbed Heenan and slapped him back, before throwing him out of the ring, to the delight of the fans!! A new tag team debuted this evening as the very impressive team of The Barbarian and The Warlord, known as the Powers of Pain dominated The Bolsheviks in a commanding first match in the WWF! Also, Slick introduced his new tag team to the world tonight. His newest wrestler, Big Boss Man teamed up with Akeem (formerly known as One Man Gang) to form the Twin Towers, a team weighing in at more than 800lbs!!! Boss Man and Akeem were typically aggressive as they crushed the much smaller team of The Killer Bees, in a match B.Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell will remember for some time – for all the wrong reasons! After defeating Tito Santana, Bad News Brown sent a clear message to InterContinental Champion Rick Martel, by attacking his former tag team partner after the match was over, leaving him in a heap in the middle of the ring, as Bad News stood over him! Nothing was settled in the feuds between Rick Rude and Jake Roberts, Brutus Beefcake and Ron Bass and Don Muraco and Hercules, as all their matches went to non-finishes tonight! Finally, there were good wins for the Ultimate Warrior, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Dino Bravo, “King” Harley Race and The Hart Foundation!
Breaking News…..Bad News Brown has been named as official No.1 contender for the WWF InterContinental Title….There will be a Tag Team Battle Royal at In Your House IV to determine who will face Demolition at SummerSlam 88! Paul Roma has left the WWF, disbanding the Young Stallions in the process! Finally, two new signings for the WWF will make their debuts at IYH IV.
