This is more a hypothetical than anything else, but I've always maintained the WWE runs its system completely wrong.
With the three different brands RAW, SmackDown, and ECW - they should do it in an umbrella style with each brand having a top level title and the overriding title being the World Heavyweight Championship, which would defended each month in separate brand leading up to their PPV.
As you can tell by my circuit, I'm a big fan of this style, but it would create a sense of unity among the three factions rather then just the clusterf- it is now. I mean, I can barely follow it anymore because it's just impossible for me to follow WWE Title, World Heavywight Title, ECW Title - like how do you differentiate, there's no level of prestige for the belts.
If you did it this way, you also wouldn't have to wait until they re-draft rosters to see guys match up. You have a top-level title on a show and a World title shot - it allows for all your main event guys to be in the mix for something and provides an avenue for you to push the younger guys as well by awarding them the Brand Title, giving it a run and then moving up.
I just don't think the way they operate now is correct at all, it could be done so much better.

But that would be too much like the old NWA and Vince probably intentionally doesn't want to ackowledge they did anything right.

That harkens back to the old territory days with one world champion. It certainly works for me and most likely a lot of people, just not McVince.

Well, to it's very minor credit, the WWE HAS tried it... Sorta.
Forget the Undisputed Champ, as I don't think there was actual Brand Split at that point, but the Unified Tag Team Titles are (theoretically) on all three brands... There's just no brand-specific titles UNDER them :-P
But yeah, I'd rather:
Main: WWE World Heavyweight Champion / WWE World Tag Team Champions
Brands: Raw Heavyweight Champion Raw Tag Team Champions IC Title
Smackdown Heavyweight Champion Smackdown Tag Team Champions US Title
ECW Heavyweight Champion ECW Tag Team Champions ECW TV Champion
This will almost definately never happen.
The main problem is that WWE long ago stopped any pretense that the brands were seperate. Having the seperate PPVs may have been too costly or whatever the excuse was, but even just *NEVER* seeing Raw guys on SD would be a good start.
