Hi. My name is Colin.
For seven years, in-between 2005 - 2011 I ran a fantasy football league specifically designed for the e-fed crowd. In different years we ranged anywhere from 8 - 16 teams.
Last year, we shut the original Legacy Football League down and created the New Legacy Football (NLF) league. We had 8 teams in the inagural year, 7 or whom are returning.
However, the NLF is not a standard redraft league. The NLF is franchise football, where returning players can protect 6 players from their previous season, the goal to be always twofold... build the team to win that year, while still building a team for the future. We are currently open to expansion for the 2012 season. All expansion teams (of which we already have 2) will first participate in a six-round Expansion Draft before being entered into the general draft with the returning 7 teams from last season. Our current line-up is as follows:
RETURNING TEAMS (Each protecting 6 players from last season)
Niagara Falls Dreamkillers (2011 League Champions)
Steel City Sentinels (Me, League Commissioner)
Hollywood Swagger
Ottawa Kings
Quebec Nancy-Boys
Columbus Marvels
Denver Deckers (Formerly the L.A. Playa Hatas)
2012 EXPANSION TEAMS (so far)
Albany Red Tide
Las Vegas Llamas
Now, keep in mind that this is a league for players who will intend to return every year. This does mean that as the league gets larger each year, it becomes more difficult for expansion teams to be competitive in their first year, as there is a larger protected player list with a greater number of returning teams. However, this being only our second year with this league, and with only 7 teams returning this year, not to mention an extremely strong rookie class entering the NFL this year, it's a great time to get involved. Expansion teams will have a more difficult time being competitive this year over returning teams, no doubt, but the crop of NCAA players coming into the league this year and next was a big part of the decision to launch a brand new keeper league last year... because it makes expansion, even in a large roster league like ours, fairly painless for forward-looking expansion teams compared to what we've seen in years past. Just looking at the rookie class alone (and remembering that expansion teams have 6 rounds to draft both rookies and unprotected NFL players), there are a larger-than-usual number of first-year players who will be in the starting lineups of NFL teams come the fall.
So, if you're looking for something more long-term than the huge crop of single-year fantasy leagues that pop up every year, then I urge you to give the NLF some thought. Expansion is open for a very limited time, so interested individuals need to PM me with an email address before this coming MONDAY NIGHT in order to receive a league invitation.
Thanks, and good luck.
