Match 1:
Mike Rotunda defeated Dino Bravo in 17:14 with the Jumping Clothesline
Match rating: **** ¾
After the match...:
Dino Bravo and Mike Rotunda shook hands after the grueling and excellent match. Dino Bravo left the ring and headed to the back.
Mike Rotunda got a microphone and called him back. Then he demanded that the fans give BOTH of them a standing ovation. He refused to leave the ring until the fans complied with the request.
The fans turned on the pair, and threw trash all over the place.
Rating: $$$ ¼
Rotunda got his first win, in what will no doubt be considered a classic match with Dino Bravo. Yet instead of celebrating with the fans, he turned face and demanded the same ovation that Bravo has been demanding for the last year. Bravo was supportive of this, however, the FCCW fans were not.
Match 2:
Gino Hernandez defeated Steve Keirn in 15:10 with the Dead Duck Elbowdrop.
Match rating: ** ¾
Gino Hernandez continues his winning ways, handing Steve Keirn his first loss in FCCW. Keirn still looked strong though, and no doubt we've not seen the last of him.
Gino makes an annoucement:
Gordon Solie met Gino Hernandez on the interview stage after his match. Hernandez told the crowd that he'd be successful in getting Dutch Mantel to agree to a match with Chris Adams later tonight.
Rating: $$ ¾
Match 3:
California Connection defeated Tito Santana & Manny Fernandez in 9:12 when Tatum pinned Santana after the Double Superkick.
Match rating: ** ½
Tito and Fernandez couldn't best California Connection, who have had an up-and-down stay in FCCW themselves. Tatum commented that 1987 was their year in FCCW.
Gordon Solie gets the details about a 'Deep Burn' match:
Solie had Buddy Rose on the interview stage at this point. Solie wanted to know, and he was sure everyone else did as well, what a deep burn match was.
Rose explained that there would be a red hot branding iron at ringside, and the winner was the person who could burn the other 3 times.
Solie commented that sounded absolutely sadistic.
Rating: $$ ¼
Match 3 - No Countout, No Disqualification Match - Falls Count Anywhere Match:
Demolition defeated The Ghostriders in 14:35 when Smash pinned Houston after Fuji leveled him with the cane.
Match rating: ***
There was almost no way this match could have gone any other way. With the rules thrown out the window, it was basically a 3 on 2 assault from the get go. The Ghostriders held off Demolition as long as they could, but the numbers game caught up to them and they fell due to Fuji's interference. They're undoubtedly going to have something to say about this next month.
Match 5 - Deep Burn Match:
Buddy Rose defeated Big Bully Busick when Rose burned Busick with the branding iron 3 times in 13:28. The last burn took place in the parking lot.
Match rating: *** ¾
After the match...:
Buddy Rose kicked Busick out of the ring by laying the boots to him until he beat a hasty retreat.
Rose then surprised everyone by burning himself with the iron.
He then held the iron up in the air and proclaimed himself "Butcher" Buddy Rose!
Rating: $$$ ¾
The deep burn match made fans cringe, as both guys suffered multiple burns before Rose managed to brand Busick for the 3rd time. Buddy Rose really showed his sadistic side in this one, just zoning in on punishing Busick to the best of his ability. After the match, Rose got masochistic as he burned himself and adopted a new nickname. FCCW fans witnessed the birth of "Butcher" Buddy Rose.
Match 6 - FCCW Tag Team Title match:
The Rock 'n' Roll Express defeated The Heavenly Bodies in 23:04 when Morton pinned Prichard after the double dropkick.
Match rating: ** ¼
(The Rock 'n' Roll Express retained the FCCW Tag Team Titles.)
Heaven in flames:
While the R'n'R Express celebrated in the ring, the Heavenly Bodies had an explosion on the interview stage. Lane attacked Prichard, and accused him of being the weak link. Cornette then brought out Steve Keirn to help with the attack. Cornette grabbed a microphone after Prichard had been thoroughly beaten, and announced his new team, The Fabulous Ones to the FCCW crowd.
Rating: $$ ¼
Lane and Prichard have been having issues for the last few months, but Cornette pulled some strings and got the floundering former champions a title shot. This seemed to pull them together, as they came out of the gate strong, but eventually fell apart again. Once they lost it, it was nearly impossible for The Heavenly Bodies to get it back, and the precision teamwork of The Rock 'n' Roll Express was too much for them to handle.
While Morton and Gibson celebrated with the fans, Lane and Prichard came to blows on the interview stage. When the dust cleared Cornette had a new tag team, Stane Lane and Steve Keirn, The Fabulous Ones.
Match 7:
Koko B. Ware defeated One Man Gang with the Birdbuster in 6:10.
Match rating: ** ¾
The fans watch in amazement as Koko B. Ware muscled One Man Gang up and planted him with the Birdbuster. A spectacular feat of strength for sure.
Adams speaks with Solie about his actions:
"Gentleman" Chris Adams took a minute on his way to the ring to talk to Gordon Solie about his behavior surrounding Dutch Mantel over the last few weeks.
He apologized to his fans once again, and promised that after tonight, he's going to lay that part of himself to rest once and for all.
Rating: $$ ¼
Match 8:
Dutch Mantel defeated Chris Adams in 12:44 by DQ when Adams hit him with a chair after being spit on again.
Match rating: ** ¼
After the match...:
After the match, Gino Hernandez comes down to try to calm Adams down, but Adams hits him with a chair as well. Adams said he's sick of being disrespected for being a decent guy. If people are going to treat him like scum, he's going to act like scum.
Rating: $$
Adams finally just lost his cool completely. Mantel, who probably deserved it, got blasted with a chair, which ended the match, but what really put the fans off is when Gino Hernandez came out to calm Adams down, he got hit with a chair as well. Adams then ranted about being disrespected.
Match 9 - FCCW Title Match:
Stan Hansen defeated Terry Funk in 16:25 with the Western Lariat.
Match rating: ** ¾
(Stan Hansen retained the FCCW Title.)
The unbeatable Stan Hansen is still unbeatable. Terry Funk, who Fritz Von Erich had high hopes for, just couldn't get the job done, though he did come closer than anyone else so far. In the end, however, he met the same fate as everyone else...being turned inside out by Hansen's brutal lariat.
