Report: TNA continues to court Paul Heyman » Reported by Steve Gerweck of Wrestleview.com » On June 23, 2010 at 3:06 pm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TNA wants Paul Heyman to be involved in their ECW angle and behind the scenes, assume control of the creative direction of the company. TNA president Dixie Carter has been calling Heyman inquiring, and according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Spike TV has also been involved in the discussions.
If Heyman would agree to terms, Vince Russo would leave the creative department, but remain with the company in a different capacity. Currently, the former ECW boss is working on marketing Brock Lesnar, has two book projects he's working on, and has a creative agency. On a side note, Spike has given the company the green light to be more hardcore.

how much more hardcore do they need to be? people have been busted open all over the place on their broadcasts over the past few months? what's next breaking light tubes & flaming tables? there is a thing as too much.

Funny part is that Heyman, in recent years, has claimed that "the buisiness" needs to be less hardcore in a lot of ways (No unprotected chairshots, less use of barbed wire, less reliance on tables, etc).
Now, if they mean "More Hardcore" in terms of what people SAY and the "edginess" of stories, well... That's another thing altogether.
This would also mean that they can't tell the fans not to chant certain things :-P

On a side note, Spike has given the company the green light to be more hardcore. They're already blading on Impact for cripes sake! Two book projects? I wonder if we'll finally get Heyman's side of ECW? That would be epic. Heyman booking TNA while finally getting Russo to stop booking it could be great. Dunno how well he'll get along with Hogan & Bischoff though?

It would be funny if the new RAW GM "hiding behind his computer" turns out to be Heyman.

It would be funny if the new RAW GM "hiding behind his computer" turns out to be Heyman. Like a wise man once said, "Wouldn't that be a kick in the head?"

I'm holding out for it to be revealed as Alexandra York, myself.

Whoever you think it would be cool, rule them out, because it's not them.

RVD is already champ. What would Heyman contribute beyond that?

If the WWE really thought outside the box, the whole Nexus angle could've been a short term feud with TNA, perhaps with Paul Heyman or Eric Bischoff being revealed as the "Raw GM". We would find out that Abyss was referring to Nexus as the "they're coming" group. Of course, an inter-promotional feud would never work and egos would get in the way of any business getting done. Heck, it happened even when WWE owned the competition during an invasion storyline.
I think too much "extreme" becomes laughable. Look at CZW as an example.

And WWE would have nothing to gain from slumming it with TNA.

It would be something completely different and unexpected, regardless. It beats carrying a keg around the ring.

You know who likes to book things that are completely different and unexpected?
Vince Russo.
Just saying.

Yeah.... WWE has nothing to gain even referencing TNA.
On top of which, it just doesn't make sense... Now, if a few or most of the Nexus had LOTS of TNA exposure previously, that could work...
Heyman or Styles would work because NXT replaced ECW.
Bischoff would even work, as a way to "get back" at Vince McMahon.
HBK might even work, due to Brian Danielson getting basically shat on by Cole, and then fired (and the attack on Bret Hart and Vince would also make sense due to their histories)
Shane Douglas would..... Ok, that's just silly.

That was his M.O....until his "unexpected" became a formula in and of itself.

Here's a biggie! From Wrestleview.Com
Report: Sources in TNA believe Heyman is coming » Reported by Adam Martin of Wrestleview.com » On July 7, 2010 at 5:47 pm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TNA management are doing all they can to get Paul Heyman to debut at the Victory Road PPV this Sunday in Orlando. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that as of this weekend, those within the company believe Heyman is coming in and that the only thing left is for the sides to close a deal.
Heyman stated recently in an interview that he wanted a deal similar to what Dana White has with the UFC (full control of the promotion and a stake in the company) and doesn't want to be offered a low-ball deal that was given to Jim Ross not long ago. One of the things Heyman is insistent about in regards to TNA is the need for the company to revamp the product marketing.
At the same time, in the same recent interview with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez during the UFC 116 weekend in Las Vegas, Heyman said he won't be appearing at the Victory Road PPV. The belief is that TNA wants Heyman to be the television leader of the ECW invasion group, although he has said he doesn't want to be involved as a TV character. Despite what he has said, there are many sources within TNA saying the deal is close enough to the point where Heyman has already started working on ideas and is at least willing to make a public appearance to let people know he is there on what would effectively be TNA hitting the reboot button.

See, if you're gonna offer a deal like that, it should be to a Jim Ross and not to a Paul Heyman.

I don't totally agree with your opinions on Heyman, Tommy, but I do think that Heyman isn't worth what they are offering. He had something like 4-5 good angles. Taz-Sabu, Dreamer-Raven, Sandman-Raven, Pitbulls-Douglas, and possibly Raven-Richards.
So I'd almost rather them put Raven in charge of booking. And I'm a huge ECW mark.

Taz-Sabu was good, but wrestling fans have too short attention spans for that today IMO. Same with Dreamer and Raven. Sandman/Raven would never make it through network/advertisers. Pitbulls Douglas, I don't know about that one really, and Raven-Richards? Eh.
Not sure any of that would fly.

Douglas-Pitbulls.
Francine (Pitbulls manager) turned on them, and joined Douglas
Afterwards, Douglas broke Pitbull 1's neck. Pitbull 2 was, of course, mildly upset.
I personally liked Al Snow starting off as a slightly "off" jobber who ended up wrestling for the title. With Head.
Beulla "pregnant" / Beulla and Kimona was a great couple WOW moments only because it was basically unheard of at that time.
bWo was fun.
Watching the Dudleys start out as inbred Lil Snot and Dudley Dudley (with Big Dick) and seeing them turn into, what is now, Team 3D is still a great ride.
