The Road To Wrestlemania III
You don't care about the parade of 80s squash matches, do you? So let's just stick to the highlights.
WCWF Saturday Night #133 - Jan 24, 1987
Frank Gresham is on the interview set with Randy "The Ram" Robinson (World Heavyweight Champion) and "Hammerhead" Harold Hume (Royal Rumble winner). Robinson acknowledges Johnny Valentine as a wiley technical wrestler and a tough opponent, but the fans believe in The Ram and he was able to covercome his challenger. Hume says it's been a long way to the top, but winning the Rumble means he's only step away. Robinson says Hume is a worthy challenger for Wrestlemania. He's confident that the fans will enjoy seeing them butt heads, and offers a handshake to Hume: "May the best man win." Hume accepts the handshake, but holds onto it when Robinson tries to let got. Robinson gives Hume a puzzled look and Hume responds by pulling the champ into a massive headbutt. Robinson tries to stagger away, but Hume grabs him and delivers a spinebuster through a nearby table. Hume gets up, grabs the microphone from Gresham, declares "IT'S HAMMER TIME, LADDIES!", and tosses the mic onto Robinson's prone form.
The Orient Express (Louis Dupre and Mehmet Suleiman) defeated Bad News (Eddie Bearden and Porkchop Jones) when Suleiman made Porkchop submit to the Asiatic Spike in 0:10:25. Rating: -* 1/2
Bearden and Jones argued after the match.
WCWF Saturday Night #134 - Jan 31, 1987
Great White Shark pinned Drew Farley after a splash in 0:01:10. Rating: -1/2*
This was Shark's debut match. He's a very large masked wrestler whose entrance music is the "Theme From Jaws."
Promo from "Million Dollar" Stan Trump. "I made Mean Massimo a world champion and look at the thanks I got!" He has hired Harland "Bam Bam" Blackwell as his new muscle, and revenge will be served at Wrestlemania!
Promo from "The Dark King" Brett Hale, flanked by The Syndicate. Hale says he used to believe America needed freedom and liberty, but Hanoi Xan has opened his eyes. Hale holds up the United States Title and declares himself King of the United States. Kneel before him!
WCWF Saturday Night #135 - Feb 7, 1987
Frank Gresham interviewed "Maniac" Mark Gibson. Gresham compliments Gibson's strong showing in the Royal Rumble. Gibson thanked him, and said he is proud of his run, but would have been a lot prouder if he'd won. Two things happened at Starrcade that made Gibson reconsider some of his actions over the last several months. One was obviously losing the US Title. The other was seeing Bonesaw McGraw try to crush Jammin' Jimmy Blast's windpipe at Starrcade. Gibson got nicknamed "Maniac" because he's energetic, like the song of the same name he uses for his entrance music. But McGraw is the other kind of maniac: a dangerous and unpredictable lunatic. Gibson apologizes to Blast for what he said last year and wants to take back those words. "I want us to still be friends, and I'll have your back at Wrestlemania."
Frank Gresham interviewed Mean Massimo. He admitted he made a deal with the devil to win the World Heavyweight Title. "It was worth it." Now he'll kick the devil's ass, and anybody the devil sends after him.
WCWF Saturday Night #136 - Feb 14, 1987
Promo from Bulk Logan. He's pumping iron and loading up on steroids. "Say your prayers, Giant, because whatcha gonna do when these 36-inch pythons run wild on you, brother?" The announcers point out that Logan has huge arms, but they're no more than 24 inches.
Bonesaw McGraw, Baron Von Kaiser, and Great White Shark defeated "Maniac" Mark Gibson, Rick Samson, and Moose Hartley when Shark pinned Samson with the Ocean Cyclone Suplex in 0:09:21. Rating: ***
The finish came while Maniac and Bonesaw were brawling at ringside. McGraw pulled up some floor mats and set up to give Gibson a piledriver on the concrete floor, but Jammin' Jimmy Blast made the save.
WCWF Saturday Night #137 - Feb 21, 1987
Promo from "The Natural" Chris Reese, demanding a match at Wrestlemania. "The best body should be on the biggest show!"
The Syndicate (Louis Dupre, Mehmet Suleiman, and Wally Richter) defeated Bad News (Eddie Bearden and Porkchop Jones) and Wolfie Brown when Richter pinned Wolfie with the Earthshaker in 0:05:03. Rating: 1/4*
The match turned into a 3-on-1 when miscommunication between the members of Bad News resulted in Bearden and Jones getting into a fight with each other.
WCWF Saturday Night #138 - Feb 28, 1987
Promo from "Hammerhead" Harold Hume, who warns Randy Robinson might not make it to Wrestlemania.
Harold Hume pinned Grover Delgado with the Claymore in 0:02:55. Rating: *
The Southern Maulers (Texas Mauler and Missouri Mauler) and Randy Robinson defeated Supernatural (The Michigan Devil and The Ozark Howler) and Raymond Buck when Robinson pinned Buck with the Ram Jam in 0:09:12. Rating: -* 1/2
Frank Gresham tried to interview Randy "The Ram" Robinson after the match, but Harold Hume interrupted. The world champion and his challenge exchanged words until The Awesome McKnight Brothers jumped Robinson from behind! A 3-on-1 beatdown ensued, but the Maulers returned to the ring to make the save. There's a pier-six brawl in the ring as the show goes off the air.
WCWF Saturday Night #139 - Mar 7, 1987
Handicap-Match: The Jolly Green Giant defeated Ben Yates and Teddy Walls when Jolly pinned Walls with the Giant Bomb in 0:01:08. Rating: -1/2*
Promo from Jolly. He hates bullies and cheaters. He's going to teach Bully Logan a lesson at Wrestlemania.
Promo from Randy "The Ram" Robinson. He acknowledged Harold Hume caught him off-guard, and reminded everyone why he's called "Hammerhead." Hume is tough and he's got a thicker skull that anyone who isn't Samoan, but now Robinson knows to watch for dirty tricks and the fans are all against Triple H. "You made a serious mistake butting heads with The Ram!"
Randy Robinson, Wolfie Brown, and Porkchop Jones defeated Johnny Valentine, Rick Blood, and Eddie Bearden when Robinson defeated Blood by disqualification in 0:01:58. Rating: 1/2* [Bruce McKnight interfered against Randy Robinson.]
The Awesome McKnight Brothers attacked the World Heavyweight Champion.
WCWF Saturday Night #140 - Mar 14, 1987
Frank Gresham interviews Porkchop Jones and Eddie Bearden. They agree Bad News is over, but argue about who is to blame.

Moose Hartley pinned Antwan Soto with the Skullcrusher in 0:02:23. Rating: ** [Brett Hale interfered against Antwan Soto.]

Wrestlemania III Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac, MI March 29, 1987 - live on PPV
The usual duo of John Elliott and Robbie Atkinson welcome us to the biggest show of the year with the largest audience ever to attend a professional wrestling event. They're joined by famed baseball commentator Bob Uecker. After running through tonight's matches, with the guest making quips along the way, Uecker leaves the announce desk to go do interviews backstage.

Backstage, Frank Gresham interviews Jammin' Jimmy Blast. In the last few years Blast has been bloodied, nearly crippled, and almost killed but he keeps coming back. He's glad Mark Gibson has his back, but after everything that has happened maybe he needs a couple other guys to watch his back. Blast says he's going to get Biblical on Bonesaw McGraw tonight.
Meanwhile, Bob Uecker looks for someone to interview, but runs away scared when he encounters Great White Shark.

"The Natural" Chris Reese makes a dramatic entrance in a robe and conducts an elaborate disrobing routine in the ring. Lots of posing and flexing. Bob Uecker comes out interview Reese. Nobody has answered his open challenge so the fans may feast their eyes on his perfect physique. "All-natural, of course!" Uecker is incredulous at that claim. Bulk Logan became the first wrestler to pin The Jolly Green Giant in WCWF! The match was ugly, and the finish stunning. Something was clearly wrong with Jolly, who moved sluggishly and seemed sometimes to get dizzy. Logan did a lot of stalling and used a lot of cheap tactics like facerakes and backrakes, but in the end he did the incredible by slamming Jolly then hitting the Big Leg Drop. The crowd looked on in stunned silence. The announcers were speechless. Children were seen crying in the audience. Jolly remained down on the mat and medical staff was summoned to attend to him. Randy "The Ram" Robinson and Rick "Strongman" Samson came out to help Jolly to the back.
